Love this place! Only range I go to. For the ppl complaining about the staff. They are dealing with a lot of ppl handling weapons with live rounds. Accidents can happen very easily if rules ain't followed, and they would be to blame. Follow easy instructions and you will have no problems with the staff. The facility is fine and enjoyed mountain landscape. The people running this place remind me of the opening scene from the movie Deliverance. The guys in the office have zero personality and are not friendly or helpful whatsoever even with a kid. The Range Officer at the lower range could care less about safety because he spends most his time with local shooters chewing the fat and was observed shooting quite often, totally not paying attention while ignoring a very important job. To make matters worse he imposes his political view points at will as we never even brought it up. Took my nephew and his son visiting from Texas to shoot and was asked where we were from and replied Texas and the made some absurd snotty comments that they were Democrats. Could care less about his political MAGA view points but care much more about safety first. I'd imagine the private shooting areas are the way to go but all of the staff at this place is a real piece of work. Do yourself a favor and go to Angeles National, sure it's always much more crowded but at least they are very professional and helpful. Most of them are retired and only do the job to either supplement their retirement income or they can't stand their wife and don't want to be home all day. Very cool place has a vintage feeling to it. All staff are very knowledgeable and disciplined when it comes to visitors handling their fire arms. If you can follow directions and practice proper range safety procedures this place will feel like the safest easy going environment to dial in your fire arms.Don't go here if you are going to act wild, unsafe and disobey rules, you will be flagged and asked to leave. Don't go here unless you want to be treated like a child. Went here a little while back and set up on the pistol range with a friend. They called a range break to set up new targets and naturally, I cleared my gun and placed it down. It usually take a bit so I stepped back and loaded my magazines to prepare for the next round. I was about 15 feet away from my gun (again, sitting on the bench, unloaded) while I loaded my magazines. I guess the wannabe range commando didn't like that and tried to grab the magazine out of my hand and I jerked back. The guy didn't announce who he was, what I was doing wrong or anything. Just walked up and reached for my mags so I went into defense and pulled back. He then starts to yell at me that there's a cease fire and I looked at him dumbfounded because I have no gun in my hand and I'm further back than anyone else (they were also loading their magazines). He starts cursing at me so I snapped back at him because for one, I'm not a child nor am I his wife. He tries to get in my face so I shoved him back and went immediately to grab my gun off the table and leave. He does the next stupid thing and tries to grab my gun out of my hand so then I give him a real shove because now I'm threatened by how this is turning out. I tell him to F off and I'm leaving. So yeah, come here if you want to be treated like a child. I guess he thought I was going to be an easy target to pick on but absolutely not. I won't be going back to these idiots. There are way better ranges and they charge way less. Not to mention, there's no signal here because it's in the middle of no where. Guns aren't toys, they are tools that do irreparable damage. This place is just too unprofessional. One of the range officers was just rude and very condescending. Made us feel like we were dumb. We know the four basic rules of gun safety. Treat those that know the rules with more respect and focus on those that are showing poor safety standards. Furthermore, stop inspecting everyone's ar15. That's what really was disappointing. The customer service there is terrible. On 5/31/2025 at 1030am I was discriminated toward and asked to leave for no other reason than the color of my skin. I've try to contact the business owner on the website under "contact us" but it seems to not be working. There is no direct email on their website to get a hold of the people in charge. To Whom it may concern On May 31st at approximately 1030am I visited your business ( Burro Canyon Gun Range) Upon arriving at your check in location for my reservation for a private shooting lane I was immediately greeted with a very rude employee. I then proceeded with letting your employee know that I have a reservation for one of the private shooting lanes. I asked him what the policies were for what I can use for targets, I told him that I was told over the phone that no steel targets to be used. He responded with I shouldn't have to explain any of the rules and policies. He then walked over to the cash register and took out fifty dollars and handed it to me and told me to leave. The whole time I felt very discriminated against for no reason. From the moment I walked into the check in office I felt very discriminated against because of the color of my skin and ethnicity. We live in a society where there is no room for any discrimination! As a paid customer and an Asian American I should not feel like I can't walk into a business and be judged and discriminated against based on my ethnicity. I have been to your business numerous times and have always followed all rules and policies. I have always been respectful and curious to all your employees and people around while using your facility. On May 31st, 2025 your employee that was in the check in office at approximately 1030am is a disgrace to all mankind ! No one should be treated the way he treated me that morning. Great place to go out and shoot while enjoying the outdoors. Great basic outdoor shooting area where you can bring your own guns, targets and ammo or you can purchase some targets and ammo inside. They do not rent guns in case you are wondering but if that's what you're looking to do you may need to look elsewhere. Staff and Range Masters are attentive and make sure nobody is being stupid while handing firearms. This is an excellent shooting and it's staffed with excellent people. I highly recommend it for seasoned shooters and beginners as well. It's unfortunate that one of the reviewers got into a shoving match with a rangemaster that was doing his job of enforcing the range safety rules. If you're an entitled jerk who is unwilling to follow this range's safety rules, find another place to shoot. In my experience, the staff is well trained, polite, and respectful, and they are diligent in keeping everyone safe. That's their job, and they do it well. Newcomers to this range should educate themselves of the rules and procedures at the range's website before coming to shoot. I went and try shooting at this range recently and the experience could've been better, the range layout/check in process can be confusing if you've never been here before and some of the staff/RO come off as salty and they make you feel like you are not welcome to shoot here. On the plus side the drive up the Azusa canyon was beautiful and it was worth going up the 10 miles stretch. Price is $20 to use the range all day and target stands are $15 each, you will get some money back if it is not getting shot up. You can use your own ammo as long as it is FMJ brass lead ammo. read more

Took my 12yo daughter here to shoot her rifle. The indoor ranges are too busy and loud. We went on a weekday and I planned on getting her a private lane but they were sold out. Lucky for us they had some lower benches on the pistol range with chairs that worked perfect. I wish they were closer but it's California so I'm lucky to have any place to teach my kid gun safety and what they are capable of. If anyone knows of a Jr .22lr or girls league please let me know. Great place to shoot and get acclimated to new guns or to practice. It does get very busy on weekends. And if you want a private range, you need to reserve or calendar it a few months in advance. The staff is very friendly and can give expert advice or recommendations. Just be aware and on the lookout for people without fsc peeps who aren't safe. read more

There are all kinds of Parks in this Great Country of Ours... National Parks, State Parks, Amusement Parks, Skate Parks, Dog Parks, Waters Parks...there are even cars nowadays that can 'Park' themselves! But 'Shooting Parks' like Burro Canyon Shooting Park are just as fun as any of the Parks above, but cooler because GUNS!!! I've been up to Burro Canyon a few times time with my Military Brothers and it's always a blast. The Range is open Everyday from 9-5 and offers both public & private ranges. The public range is $15/Day and $10/target whereas the private range is $30/person with a minimum of $120 for the day. Every time we've gone, we always have a private range set up and it's an absolute great time shootin'. Private Ranges allow a little more room for freedom and give you the space and opportunity to run your own setup of course while still following the Strict Range Rules & Regulations. When we go, we make a day of it bringing in our own portable gas bbq, canopies, tables & chairs and make it home for the day. From .22 caliber, 9 mm, shot gun, .556 to 50 cal, anything is game; just No Steel Core/Steel Jacket ammo due to fire restrictions. Upon arrival to the Range, you must first and foremost check in at the Range Office. Ammo is sold inside if needed, but I highly recommend always bringing your own. The drive up through the canyon is beautiful, but know that cell service is sparse if any once you enter the canyon. Make sure to provide your family with the Range Office # prior to your visit in case they need to get ahold of you in an Emergency. I highly recommended bringing your own food and drinks and have your vehicle gassed up as there are No Services whatsoever. Staff here are awesome, they are very friendly & down to earth. Please do not be afraid to ask them a 'Stupid question'. Most Importantly, Always remember the Standard Range Safety Rules: -Always Keep Firearms pointed in a safe direction. -Always treat a Firearm as if it's loaded. -Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. -Never point a Firearm at anything you don't intend to destroy. -Be sure of your target and know what is Beyond it. It's been about 2 1/2 years since my first review. Long story short, I liked it so much I purchased a membership here. My son and I go here often, using a private range if one is available (members get free use if one of the ranges is open). A word of warning - cell phones do not work here, if that's important to you. In fact, you generally lose service just as you start heading into the mountains. We usually stop at the Jersey Mikes (in the same shopping center as the Azusa Costco) and grab a couple of sandwiches before heading up. read more

I recommend the private range if you are well trained with firearms because there is not a range master to in force safety rules. I'm the private range you can conduct your own training. Make sure you bring food and drinks as it does get hot out there. There is no cell service ( if you're lucky you might get one bar on your cell). You can also bbq with propane grill. Time, experience, and changing (perhaps more mature?) perspectives have taught me that perhaps I was being unduly harsh in my 2014 review of this range. After additional visits over the years, I now realize that Burro offers upsides that I had failed to appreciate years ago. So if you live in the 626 area, it's probably fair to say that Angeles Shooting Ranges (ASR) is the main competitor of Burro Canyon Shooting Park (both being outdoors, and within a "reasonable" driving distance). Although this is a review for the Burro Canyon Shooting Park, be advised that much of my review will be written in a manner that uses ASR as a default metric of comparison, and will frequently reference ASR, especially as some or possibly many readers may have been to ASR, but not Burro. The main reason I've generally preferred ASR over the years is due to their steel targets, which Burro does not have (also, Burro's rifle range only goes out to 200 yards, whereas the Angeles rifle range goes out to 600 yards). Also, when I was younger, I was more leery about making the drive up San Gabriel Canyon Road (39). While I do still wish that Burro Canyon did have steel targets (and longer distances), I now find the drive up Highway 39 to actually be rather scenic and somewhat enjoyable. Burro's layout is far more convenient than ASR's. At ASR, you must park in the lot, check in at the office, and either carry all your gear from your car with you to the bench you intend to shoot at, or go thru the hassle of driving to the bench via a bi-directional single lane road. In comparison, after you check in at the Burro office, you can park literally a few paces away from the bench you will be shooting from, and unpack from there. This is particularly advantageous in a scenario where you are shooting alone and zeroing a rifle - you can unpack your firearms, ammunition, cleaning kit, spotting scope (and tripod), shooting rest(s), laser rangefinder, and all the other accouterments that you might/will need - all without leaving line of sight of your car, and without even having to move your car from the parking lot (and thus not placing your possessions in an unattended and vulnerable state). In comparison, in this scenario at ASR, you would pretty much either need at least a 2nd person in your party to watch your stuff, or otherwise leave your stuff unattended and vulnerable. I suppose a 3rd option might be to carry all that stuff in one trip by yourself on foot, but my zeroing setup has grown to the point where this option is not really feasible for me at this time (acquisition of an appropriate hand cart is something I have not yet tried, but shows promise). ASR can be insanely crowded, especially on the weekends. Crowds are dangerous. Larger crowds equal more people. More people equal greater chance of getting swept. I can vividly remember being swept in at least two incidents (that I am aware of) in recent years at ASR - once by a woman with a shotgun, and once by an unsupervised child with a pistol. I don't recall *ever* being swept by anyone at Burro. I really do appreciate that Burro is nowhere as crowded as ASR - even on the weekends, Burro seems to always have plenty of unoccupied (especially on the pistol range), and you never seem to have to wait for a bench to free up. And of course, I also appreciate that I feel an order of magnitude safer at Burro than I do at ASR. Burro is now open 7 days a week. Burro's magnetic projectile policy has also apparently been updated to be year-round. Prices have increased to the point where now it's actually cheaper most of the week to shoot at ASR. While it's currently $25/person at ASR on weekends and only $20/person at Burro, we need to remember that even if you don't damage any of Burro's target frames, they will still keep $5 of your target frame deposit. Most of the staff at Burro is actually very polite, and often very funny when you talk to them (there's one older dude who is a bit on the salty side). ASR still has actual restrooms with flush-toilets, whereas Burro only furnishes porta-potties (I understand that there is limited infrastructure up in the sticks, but it's still a prospect that I am less than enthusiastic about). You will lose cell phone reception up on the canyon road WELL before you get to Burro. In contrast, you will still get a signal at ASR. Also, ASR has a Reloading Store and actual gun shop on the premises, Burro does not. Perhaps this might be a result of potentially differing geographic features of the area, but I do not actually recall ever experiencing strong winds at Burro, while I *commonly* experience them at ASR. This is a legitimate point of consideration for anyone zeroing rifles, especially if you are opting for a longer distance zero. It's also nice to not have sand being blown in your face. At time of this review, ASR's rifle benches are all plain concrete. I appreciate that Burro's rifle benches are wood, and at least partially covered in fabric. read more

As a few other people have compared Burro Canyon (BCSP) to Angeles Shooting Ranges (ASR), I thought I'd chime in as well and give some more insight if you have to decide which one to go to. Let's start with the drive. BCSP has a very long, windy, 10 mile stretch of road that everyone has to go through, even for people who live in the closest city of Azusa. That adds more time than it seems, especially if you're stuck behind a slow car. ASR only has three miles of less windings, plus has a 7-11 at the start of the drive, that everyone who shoots there seems to also stop at either on the way in or out. BCSP's driveways and parking lots are unpaved. Full of dirt & rocks. After it rains, it turns muddy in some spots. It's nice that the cars can park only a few feet from the actual ranges, but that's why I use a folding rolling cart at ASR. Yes, there's quite a 100 yard uphill walk from the parking lot to the ranges but that's why most people either drive in, unload, and then park, or use a folding rolling cart like I do. BCSP sells annual passes. ASR doesn't have so much an annual pass, but an annual discount club card where each visit is a few bucks off, and every 10th visit is free. ASR makes you sign waivers each visit. BCSP has no waivers. I think this is due to where they are located and how their business is run (slightly different) BCSP has always been windy almost every time I went. ASR, not so much. I've been going to both places regularly for the past 8 years so I can tell that Burro's windier by far. ASR has flush toilets, BCSP has porta potties. One time, the wind was so bad it knocked one over, and the contents spilled out onto the parking area. ASR loans out full size target frames for $8.00, but you get 100% of that back if you return it undamaged. BCSP recently went through some sort of cheap-out, so their frames are half the size they were previously (and much smaller than ASR's), and you get 50% back rather than the full amount. Never quite got that part. Was told because of inflation but that doesn't explain the target frames getting smaller by more than half size. Bring your own for a full experience at BCSP. (and they can't be made of steel!) At both ranges, the staff are friendly and respectable as any shooting ranges can be-they do have to look out for people's safety, so expect yelling at both places when people do unsafe (stupid) things. It's a gun range, not a theme park. Having fun comes after being safe. ASR has an area where you can shoot both pistols and rifles at ranges to 100 yards. In addition, they have pistol range with steel targets, pistol range with hanging cardboard, long range rifle range up to 500 yards (steel) and more than twice the amount of benches that BCSP has. BCSP separates their pistol/rifle ranges. No benches at pistol range, and no short-range shooting (less than 50 yards) at rifle range. Yes, ASR can be crowded on weekends, but so can BCSP. The difference is ASR can support more people than BCSP can ASR's range is sloped upwards. BCSP is flat, and has markers setup at the 50, 100, and 200 yards so people know not only how far, but exactly where to put the target in relation to left/right too (rifle range). It's very helpful to line up everyone when a day is packed. However, being flat, BCSP's field can get filled with mud and water so getting to your target after a rain storm will be a challenge without a boat. ASR has decent, real stools and concrete benches. BCSP has these chunky, uncomfortable wooden stool-like-furniture things that are chained to wooden benches. Nod goes to ASR for comfort. ASR has huge back benches where people can leave all sorts of stuff on, because they're large tables. BCSP has.....only a few low benches to sit on in the back area. ASR has steel targets setup all over the ranges for entertainment shooting. BCSP has nothing, zilch, nada, except your own target frames, or their tiny, little frames that only hold two paper targets each. ASR has a gun store and reloading store on premise. BCSP.....just sells ammo, and, yes, while all ranges don't sell awesome ammo, BCSP has a very limited selection, and when I mean limited, it's only a few of the major caliber types, like .22, .38, 9mm, 5.56, .308. ASR has electric clay launchers for shotgun. BCSP rents hand-held throwers. That's all I can think of, but I hope this helps in your decision should you live close to either (or both) of these two parks. Both are decent, but one is slightly, if not a lot, better than the other. If this all sounds like I lean more towards ASR as being a (better) park, well, it is. BCSP has the potential to get better, but for whatever reason, they chose not to and continued to be what they are, second rate shooting park for those living more east of ASR. read more

Honestly, aside from the traffic heading up there since they are doing construction, it was a good time. I have never shot outdoors here so it was my first time and I was satisfied w/ how empty it was. I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about in the reviews. It was clean, plenty of parking (I didn't find the dirt road bothersome, just wash your car after it's easy) and no one bothered me. Listen to the rules and no one will call you out and make you "upset". Will be coming back with my rifle and shotgun for a private range rental. read more

Great place for beginners and seasoned shooters. Safe place for kids to practice firearm handling and safety. Be sure to bring eye and ear protection for everyone, even for spectators. I have been going here for over 20 years. I taught my son to shoot here when he was nine. He's now a Marine Officer. This range is my happy place. The range is very basic. Porta potties. dirt range. No snack bar. No gun store. $20, shoot all day. $300, shoot all year. Best deal around. And this is NOT a sushi bar where can be an idiot and people will just smile. If you do something stupid, expect the Range Officer to scream at you that are F**king stupid, maybe over the PA system. Maybe 2 inches away from your face. Being a paying customer does not make you in charge. If you can't deal with that, stay away. The Range Officers are not there to greet you warmly, cater to your personal needs and send you off feeling good about yourself. They are there to make sure nobody ends up laying in a puddle of their own blood. Enjoy your visit. read more
