Had a good range session! Place is a good spot for some shooting and reasonable prices.

Great place to shoot! Looking for a nearby range and came across this spot. Reasonable pricing on lanes and targets. Bring your own ammo to save money. Shot over 300 rounds in about an hour and forty minutes. Definitely be back again.

Staff is extremely friendly and easygoing. I went to zero in my new optic on my p365 and didn't run into any issues. I think the place could use some more AC but it serves its purpose.

This is an updated review after being a member for almost a year now. The range is definitely considered old/run down but I enjoy shooting there, the staffs are super chill and they had never given me a hard time. I've been here so often that they pretty know my name, member ID and what targets I would get without asking lol. This is one of those range that are very mom-n-pop and only the locals knows about so it's never super crowded with long wait time. The membership is $400 but it pay for itself after like the 10th visit. I recently have people that wanted to try shooting so the guest discount perk helps a lot. Ammo and other essentials are super expensive here but that is to be expected. They allow you to bring your own paper targets as long as they are at least 18x24 but their rate are very reasonable so I just get those from them and let them make a few bucks. As mentioned before this place is run down so their ventilation and air conditioning are not the greatest. I would considered taking all the precautions to prevent lead exposures like washing hands, not eating/drinking or wipe yourself with D-lead wipes when leaving if you plan to come here regularly.

It was okay, thought it was a little expensive for less than an hour inside and wished there was more staff to help out those who are shooting for the first time.

Hourly lane fee is unnecessarily high given how outdated facility is. Poor ventilation is also an issue. Bring your own ammo.

La Puente Firing Range Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - La Puente Firing Range

Are powder coated or polymer coated bullets allowed? The rules say no exposed lead and these fit the criteria.

Can you bring your own targets. If so, is there a size restriction?

You can bring your own targets, but the standard B-27 Target are always excepted. If I recall they don't allow targets with people on them. Pretty much the targets they sell at the range are the ones they allow you to bring in.

What is their range length? Distance?

It's about 25 yards

Are there restrooms available for use?

Yes, restroom are inside this indoor firing range.

Do they offer military discount on membership?

Yes

Can you use freedom mags?

Yes

Are shotguns allowed here?

no, pistol up to 44 magnum, rifle up to 22LR

Does this range allow 9mm Pistol Caliber Carbines?

No, only 22 caliber carbines!

Will customers with yearly memberships be extended due to the Covid-19 Shutdowns?

I have a California ID is that fine?

Yes Sir that is fine. The range re-opened on May 16, 2020 from 11 am to 11 pm 7 days a week. So happy I've got me an itch in my trigger finger that needs a fix.

Does it cost to bring your own firearm and use one of the lane in the range? And can I bring my own ammo? And I have a friend that is on probation as a misdemeanor can he still bring his own firearm to the range?

I brought my own firearm and ammo. There is no additional cost to use your own. Just keep in mind, they are picky about the type of ammo. Brass only and there is a caliber restrict. Probably nothing over .45 but I don't recall.…

Are there any perks in becoming a member?

1) No charge for range time, if you bring a guest and shoot on the same lane it's $8 an hour for them instead of $20 2) Free eye and ear protection. And free gun rental, but…

I have multiple questions, are you allow to bring you own firearm? If I have a personal firearm can I go alone and can you use your own ammunition? Is it free of charge if I use one of the lane or I have to pay and how much is it?

Yes you can bring in your own firearms. Yes you can go in alone. Yes you can bring in your own ammo, BUT can't be brass, steel or aluminum. I believe it's $20 for 1 person for 1 hour in 1 lane.

Are we allow to wear a pistol holster while pistol training at the ranges?

No gun holsters allowed at la Puente range

Can I use reloaded ammo?

Yes as long as it's has brass cases and FMJ If shooting JHP the copper has to extend to the tip no lead must be exposed.

Can i bring winchester steel case FMJ - brass jacketed lead core 9mm Luger?

No lead, steel or aluminum and no steel casing are allowed. They do have ammo for sale, pretty reasonable.

How much is the ammo here, 9mm and .45?

19.99 for 9mm and 24.99 for 45 ACP

If you are using your own targets, what are the minimum dimensions?

Age limit for firearm rental?

You need to be 21, or over.

I did a few days' worth of research on classes and instructors in my area and eventually decided Veterans Training Group was the best around. They offer an ample selection of classes for new gun owners like me and more advanced shooters. I enrolled in their NRA Basic Pistol course on a date that best fit my schedule. I was able to hop onto a Zoom meeting with Steven Hung shortly after I got off work and he took the time to get to know what I was looking to get from the course, what made me decide to become a gun owner, and he tailored the content to emphasize certain things that were relevant to my situation. Steven answered all the questions I had going in and all the new questions I had as we covered the materials. At the end our call, we agreed to meet at the La Puente Firing Range for the live fire portion of the course. I got the opportunity to apply the concepts from the course with my own gun. I'd been to a firing range 3 times before without any training or guidance beyond random YouTube videos I'd found and just "doing what felt right." Up until then, my untrained results had been "OK" but nothing special. This time, with Steven's instruction, guidance, and tips, I saw my accuracy improve DRAMATICALLY in just a few magazines' worth of shots and started understanding the fundamentals of shooting. I walked away from that live fire session ready to hit the range again ASAP to practice and hone the skills Steven taught me that evening. I look forward sharpening my skills as a new shooter and highly recommend Veterans Training Group to anyone who wants to develop their shooting skills. I already have my eye on their Intermediate, Advanced, and Home Defense pistol courses. If/when I decide to get a rifle, too, you bet I'll be looking at their rifle courses as well!

Upon meeting them they were welcoming, patient, and made sure they made you feel comfortable during the experience. You can tell that they are dedicated to our success of training the basic foundations and practicality of handling firearms. Their professionalism also naturally creates a space for any questions or concerns that may arise. Overall they made/utilized the training experience to teach safety and protection fun as well as a team effort. They were good to us, and I'm confident that you'll be in capable and safe hands.

I was visiting from out of town (Oakland, CA) and stopped in to shoot. It was a weekend afternoon,…read moreso there was a bit of a wait. All in all, it was worth the wait. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It sounded like they made special accommodations for myself and some other shooters, by opening up the "tactical" range, since there were no members shooting at that time. That was awesome, because it got me on the range sooner. I also brought with me a new firearm - Canik Mete MC9LS with a new optic. I forgot my regular range bag with my tools; however, the range staff allowed me to use one of their tools to adjust my new optic. I don't know how the targets move on the regular range, but on the tactical range, you can push buttons to automatically set the targets at a specified distance, move the targets manually back and forth, and automatically have the target return. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable. $20 per lane and $0.50 targets - WAAAAAY better than prices in the Bay Area. If I were a resident of the area, I'd definitely become a member. (I overheard one of the staff members informing another customer of the benefits and price.). Top Notch outfit in my opinion.

I attended their intro to handguns class, covering the basics of safety and proper form, and getting in some introductory shooting experience. John, our instructor, was very engaging and great at commanding attention when needed and building up the class's confidence. Afterward, I took them up on their 'newbie' offer of free range time and rental after class. Kevin signed me up for a lane, let me rent a couple of handgun models I researched previously, and critiqued my targets, giving some general feedback and advice. He also pointed me toward a couple other models that are known to be more friendly to left-handed shooters that I can test out in the future. Great place; a little on the older and smaller sides, but staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I get the feeling that as I 'shop around' for my go-to range there's a strong chance I will gravitate back here, since these guys are passionate about what they do, and seem to want to inspire that passion in others. Definitely will make it a point to stop by again.
