While downtown, I stopped in this (mainly) vinyl shop to see what they had available. It's a bit dark and the shop is long and narrow. I noticed a mix of musical instruments scattered through the shop and the man working was busy setting up something towards the back. He did greet me, but pretty much did his own thing back there while I browsed. The records were generally alphabetical, but grouped in genres. I figured it out since the genre type was not prominent unless you looked at titles. I saw they also carried some movies and cd's, but those seemed to be completely random without any sorting. Although they have a lot of vinyl here, I will say that I've found more organized and helpful places in the Indy metro area than here. Maybe hire good workers instead of personal friends? Went in with a friend, saw a couple others in the shop and bought a beer and ordered food (school pizza) and went browsing. About 15 minites later friend asks if i got my food. They (all three of the people working at the time) forgot to cook it. Okay so I wait longer. I ask again. They forgot it again but this time in oven and the food is burned. I finish my beer and I think I got a slight discount on the beer I actually received so I guess there's that. Hiring your "buddies" to help around the shop is prob a Funtime but not from a customers point of view. Shop is decent, it's just kinda gimmicky and gives a hipster thrift shop feel. read more

Absolutely amazing record store in the heart of Kokomo . The owner was absolutely great ! More than accommodating! And was a kind man , which is rare in 2021 . Great selection! And I was able to find a vinyl record from the 50s I have been looking for for a long time ! (Little Richard !) I was in a little bit of a rush and my only regret was not taking more time to dig through everything there ! Usually when you go to a vinyl record store the music is so loud , the shop owner can barely hear you and you are in and out and treated like you don't matter . Here . Right off the bat . I was treated like a long time friend that was in the area and visiting the shop ! That's so different ! And it's refreshing . He genuinely cares about his customers ! Employees are very rude and uninterested in anything other than getting you out of the store so they can put there headphones back on. I went in and asked if they purchased used vinyl. The employee said "sometimes ". So then I produce a hefty stack with multiple original Beatles and Rolling Stones albums. He then says "how much you want". So I tell him. Then he hands me the stack and says "thanks for bringing them in". No counteroffer, no well we are just a small store so we can really give you that, nothing. I then asked him if he wanted to make an offer. He just said "nah" and put his headphones on. If I were a potential customer the best thing I could tell you is just go to broadripple and go to Indy CD and Vinyl or LUNA. They actual care about the customer and will gladly buy your vinyl or at least tell you what they think it's worth read more

As a budding vinyl enthusiast, you can imagine my surprise and joy to find that a store would be opening here in my hometown with hundreds and hundreds of them to choose from. That was only the beginning. Since their grand opening a few weeks ago, they've come to offer much, much more. Sure, they're still stocked to the brim with clean, crisp used and new vinyl (and we're talking gems here, not the extensive collection of Gospel that you'd find at Goodwill, but if Gospel is your thing, you're sure to find some here), but they also offer CD's, tapes, instruments, accessories, listening equipment, DVD, VHS, EVERYTHING that could and most definitely would tickle a music fan's fancy. I absolutely guarantee that, upon visiting this store, you will find SOMETHING that you like. It's almost overwhelming, but in the greatest of ways. However, a store's inventory is only half of the formula. To have a good shop, you gotta have a good staff. American Dream Hi-Fi is run by some of the nicest people that I've had the privilege of meeting. I'm always greeted kindly and engaged in friendly conversation (but if you're not the conversational type, they won't bug you while you browse) with the staff. Another major selling point is this shop's dedication and support towards the local music scene. An entire section of the shop is made up of tapes, CD's and vinyl records from Kokomo artists as well as artists from the surrounding area. FYE doesn't do that. Just saying. In closing, this Kokomo record store is a MUST VISIT, whether you're an audiophile, or just a casual fan of music in general. The prices are VERY fair (some of the deals are TOO good), and the shop is locally owned, so rest assured that these guys care about their customers. read more

After 2 months of persistence to get a refund on the record I purchased here I got a refund. The record was sold with a VG+ rating on the label and turned out to be scratched to a point of deeply the affecting the audio, definitely not worth the $17.76 I originally paid and the owner threw a fit over this when all I did was bring it up to him and ask him if he could help even the situation out before leaving him negative feedback here. He asked that I leave it for him to review later for a possible refund. I kept my receipt and when I returned he pretended as if this transaction was already completed. 2 months later; Pretty ridiculous but I did get the whole $17.76 back. I still feel like this place should not be in business. read more

If you are at all serious about records, this is not the place to go. The organization is terrible. If you are looking for a specific artist, they may very well be in 3 or 4 different locations within the store. Prices are on the high side of average with the new records. The selection of used records is really where this place falls apart. Everything is just torched. Scratched to hell records for $6-8 is just bananas. 75% of their used selection should be in a dollar box. I pulled out 2 different records that I was interested in and they were covered in mold. That's not just a bad record, that's a health hazard. I'll give it 3 stars because they put on shows and support the underground (for lack of a better term) and that's cool and everything, but it doesn't mean it's a good record store. read more

Mike the owner is cool, he has some cool Facebook specials he runs from time to time, and he serves beer and food! Something you don't see too often in record stores. It only loses a star because sometimes the used records aren't in the best shape for the price. Other than that, you can find some gems here! read more

Owner has a bad attitude, would not grade or explain the condition of an lp record that he had listed presently on eBay, and rudely hung up telling me not to buy it. This guy was up front impatient, and had a bad attitude and was not being reputable with me, and in looking at his other stock, he is over priced on everything that I can see. Best to buy elsewhere online. This guy is rude and has personality issues. I buy a lot of record, and have done so for many years, and fortunately have not encountered any rude sellers like him. My best advice, Stay Away From Him, he is over priced, doesn't grade fairly, and is not going to take the time to do you any favors. Look at his prices. read more

Visited this wonderful record emporium last evening and was delighted as to what I saw! Was greeting by a young man (co-owner Adam) who was playing what looked like a Technics turntable of music by Black Sabbath and later by the group Rush! Another customer was in the store (Nick) who was purchasing classic rock by Aerosmith and others. The three of us got into an 'enlightening' conversation of the vinyl resurgence of 2014/15.t...nice nice very nice. As this satisfied gentlemen left with his purchases I continued the conversation with Adam.....which went passed closing time of 8PM....oops...but hey anyone who has an independent biz, let alone a 'stand alone' record store....no books/computer games/other parphenalia , gets totally high marks from me....period! As others have mentioned, if the place doesn't currently have in stock what one is looking for....they will get it for ya asap or sooner! I was looking for original pressinge//subsequent pressings of Circle Jerks Dead Kennedys DOA Black Flag Big Boys Dead Boys The Dictators Television Plasmatics Johnny Thunders The Heartbreakers etc. Adam took my name down and said he/they would look for me. In the meantime, I had scoopied up very nice copies of David Bowie's 'Space Oddity' , 'Queen II' and a rare German import w/ poster (!) of the Faces 'A Wink is A Nod' which I was totally pleased with the condition of the vinyl and covers and oh yes the prices! And yes American Dream Hi Fi sells nice vintage equipment such as a very nice blast from the past belt driven Gerrard turntable at a steal of price 199.00!!! Do yourself a fave rave and support this up and coming shop for many a reason....ya will be w/o q, one happy camper and more......Long live the 33 1/3 long player....that's about it read more

I had a blast visiting this shop. Didn't really have what I was looking for or expected, but found some surprise gems for a reasonable price. Staff was quick to respond to any and all questions and were very knowledgeable on their stock. I would like to see a little more diversity in their selection, but I bet that will happen once the store expands. Great shop dudes! read more

Love this place. This is my Indiana Flat, Black, and Circular. Great staff, awesome prices. If they don't have it, either wait a couple days (it'll turn up) or they'll hunt it down. I'm interested to see the store grow. Great place to spend an afternoon digging and hanging out. This is a record store that is starting to have a scene built around it. Amazing new record shop in Kokomo! Prices are incredibly cheap (less than $10 for used stuff and reasonable for brand new records) and you know you're buying from someone who knows a lot about music, a lot about vinyl, and cares about customers. This "indie" record shop uses its access to RSD supply to sell on discogs for 6X the release price rather than sell to their in store customers ($145 for a $24.99 LP). They represent the worst of the worst of RSD. Let's hope the RSD folks cut off all their supply and let a seller that really supports customers and not their own wealth receive their allotment instead. read more

I love this record shop! The owners do an amazing job of mixing old and new vinyl. Every time I go I find something that surprises me! Things like crazy bootleg vinyl from other countries, deals, or bands I've never heard of. They will play whatever you want to try out so you don't get any surprises when you get home. To top it off they will chat as long as you want about any genre of music, or band, or whatever and their prices are extremely reasonable. This is the best music store in Kokomo, the best in central Indiana, and maybe the best in the state. read more
