Worst possible decision I could have made for pitching my first home. Complete let down for timing, communication and respect as a client. I worded with Alejandro Lopez and it was a constant hassle to get them to communicate in a timely manner with myself and my realtor. We missed our first deadline and had to plead with them to give us the clear to close even though I was a highly qualified buyer. I will definitely be looking elsewhere when we need to refinance or purchase again. Do your research before using American Financing. read more

No part of my experience with American Financing was good or even satisfactory. They were the only company that "couldn't" give me rate information during my initial phone call. Instead, I had to wait until the following day when Mike McCone, the mortgage broker I was transferred to could call me back. His offer was the exact same rate that I am currently paying even though he already had that information. I have outstanding credit and had already been offered lower interest rates. And...Mike is based in Atlanta, GA; not exactly local as advertised. I knew something was amiss when at 10:15 am he asked how my afternoon was going. I declined his offer and told him no, thank you. Then, 2 days later I got a call from Vincent Pacheco, Mike's manager. He was very aggressive and pushy wanting to gain my business. Miraculously he was suddenly able to match another offer that was 1/4% lower. I again said no asking why I didn't get that offer initially. He pushed back even more. No, thanks. I'm going with Golden Oak Lending. A few days later I received 2 packets of loan documents in the mail, both addressed to my wife. They literally mailed out documents with all of my personal information filled out, but didn't address it to me! All of the docs were already autosigned by Mike McCone and dated 8 days earlier. I did not authorize him or American Financing to move forward with anything and certainly did not ask for paperwork to be printed out and mailed. This company is sloppy and arrogant. As a Real Estate Professional whom has been in the business for 25 years my experiences with American Financing each time has not been pleasant but especially on my listing which the Buyer was using American Financing for her loan and closed last Friday after a 41/2 hour wait at the closing table for the loan documents to be sent and reviewed. My heart went out to the Buyer whom hadn't eaten and was severely anxious by the time we funded. After the closing the Buyer was given a survey to complete from American Financing but she was afraid to complete this truthfully because of any repercussions she would suffer which is unfortunate because I feel that American Financing needs to hear the truth about their service. read more

Found out about American Financing from KFI in Los Angeles. I worked with Christopher Tanner from the beginning. He was extremely professional and he delivered EXACTLY what he promised. I am not an easy one to finance being that I am self employed. They made lists of things I needed very clear. He and the processor helped me on items that were harder to locate. I would not recommend AF for refinancing. If I could cancel now without being out cash for the appraisal I would. (The fee they tell me is @ $450 for the appraisal which is a joke as the appraiser wasn't even in my house for 5 minutes and I believe he completely under vauled my home based on the sales prices I know from similar units). I feel the person I'm working with at AF is new or has not been trained well. She had my name wrong on some of my initial paperwork had address information incorrect. She asks for information I've already shared with her. I was to have closed @ two weeks ago but it seems like every day or every other day they are like...oh, we need this document or that document". I travel frequently and am not always available to just drop everything and run to my home office to pull whatever new document they decide they need. I don't understand how you can't figure out everything that is going to be needed at the beginning of the process. It's been a very disorganized; unprofessional process. I had used AF in the past about 7 years ago I think and it went really well so I expected the same but sadly their service is very poor. We decided to go with American Financing because of all the radio ads and endorsements, but TV ads with John Elway should've been our first clue that things would not go well; and they didn't. If you need to refinance a "unique" mountain property, run, don't walk away from them they can't get it done. I so regret using them, and David Clark, for our refinance. Yes, they are salary-based and that sounds good, but that's the problem. It's hurry up and wait because they really don't care about your loan, they get paid the same, no matter what. A commission-based agent would have a vested interest in getting a loan approved and quickly or at least could tell you quickly if it isn't going to work out. It all started out well and good, but then no communication. We looked into another lender, told AF bye, but oh they wanted to keep our business so bad and wouldn't be beat! Ok, we stayed; big mistake. First, the appraiser they pick comes out and does the appraisal, pictures and all, but then she flakes out, doesn't submit a report, but AF doesn't even realize it for nine days and not until I call to find out what's happening. We're told the appraiser "flaked-out" and won't return their calls. Okay... so they're able to get another one done ASAP. The 2nd appraiser turns around the report in two days and we think, now we're moving forward. Oh no, trouble with the comparables because our property is "unique," but that is never relayed to us until a month later. We're told, the Underwriter has the file and will "close it" on July 13 with funding on July 18. Ok, we now think we're in the home stretch. Nope. The Underwriter doesn't like our comparables and needs different ones, but no one bothers to tell us until I call again on Friday, July 19 to find out what's happening? Are we closing soon? I'm told, "Oh, sorry, no one contacted you to tell you it all fell through?" Nope! In an effort to move things along I found what I thought were five comparables that maybe they could use (doing their jobs!), but first I asked specifically what they needed to compare. Never told anything about the "uniqueness" of our property being the problem, not with FHA, but the Underwriter. Monday, July 22, David calls my husband to ASK HIM which three comparables he wanted to use? Isn't that his job to figure out? Husband didn't understand what they needed, so told him to use the "top three." Two days later, and again only because I emailed, were we told, "Well, it looks like we're not going to be able to close your loan. We can't get the right comparables because your property is so "unique." First time we've heard of this after three months of being slow-dragged and strung along with, "Oh yes, we can close your loan!" I asked no fewer than three times if there was going to be a problem closing this refinance, and I was told "no." I just wish we would've realized their incompetency much earlier and not trusted their bull. I'm writing this review for others to be forewarned - do your research - I wish we had. I had a terrible experience with American Financing. I started my home sale process in early November 2021 and reached out shortly after to them to see if they could help with a new loan. I spoke with Oleg, a Jr. mortgage consultant with A.F. and he had asked all of the general mortgage qualification questions and let me know he would be in touch in a couple days. When I heard back from him later that week, he had let me know they had a pre-qualification for the amount I was looking for and that he needed supporting documents to continue the process. I had provided what I had at that time (i.e. bank statements and tax returns) and let him know I would work on the rest in the next days to come. So I went out and started new home shopping, yah! After countless home showings I finally found what I was looking for and went to submit an offer only to realize I had never received the pre qualification letter that they had promised to send to me. So I contacted them the next morning only to find out that my pre qualification had changed by more than 20%. When speaking to a manager he had informed me that they have every intention of providing me with the loan that they had first represented. Only to talk in circles and come back to the same fact 45 minutes later, that they were not able to provide the same qualification. He then went about tossing his Jr. mortgage consultant under the bus, stating in some way that it was his fault for the misrepresentation, and let me know he totally understood my position. Save your time and energy and go to a real bank for a qualification where they don't play games like this. DO NOT USE read more

First of all I ha r no idea where to start. We have been searching for this closing date they speak of for over 30 days now. This is not because of our end, paperwork claims to be done and is sworn up and down to be finished. So when we call to communicate on a game plan for closing, no one answers the phone or calls back. No one really has any business ethics as far as keeping the customer first. There also is many more experiences that is just not gonna fit in the message area. Probably the worst business experience I have ever encountered. If I can give Negative 100 stars I don't hesitate. I started the refinance process with Douglas Longoria; he is a liar and lied multiple times throughout the process, and I have it in writing. Just to make you aware I started to ask via emails when I noticed he is telling something over the phone, and when he provide a documents to sign is says something different, example I asked for the new loan amount but the closing disclosure presented doesn't match what he indicated on his latest email. This is just one example and hopefully it will raise a flag for you before dealing with this unethical and unprofessional Douglas Longoria and American Financing After this bad experience I found the company has the most number of complaints I came across, next time I'll do my research beforehand. My advice to anyone in my network; Do not go with this company for any of your financing needs unless you willing to waste your time. My lesson learned; next time I'll do my due diligence thoroughly and choose a reputable mortgage broker. My loan officer was Ignacio Gomez and my processor was Nancy Jefferson and these two tag teamed and got my refinance done with flying colors despite a couple of bumps along the way in handling my circumstances. Just a horrible experience. People there are nice and friendly but they do not have the stuff together. Nobody seems to wanna do anything. We tried to close the first time. They forgot to get the payoff statements from other companies. The second time they had the wrong totals. The third time they were missing payoffs and companies to pay off. Finally the fourth time it was done. Then they started adding more and more fees. It was a joke and a horrible experience. Filled out an online request with American Financing to talk with them about refinancing my home. Got a phone call the next day and spoke with a nice enough guy. Give him the information requested so he could run his numbers. He said he would send me an email with a recap of his proposal. Never received an email, and have not received a call back. That was two days ago. I did however, just receive an unsolicited phone call from another mortgage company which I've never heard. They claim the credit bureau gave them my information. Called today on a very basic VA IRRRL streamline refi and couldn't get two basic questions answered: rate(s) and a cost estimate. The lender emailed me a "welcome letter" which had no relevance to the loan I wanted, not every loan is the same. I don't think the consultant listened to a work I said from the very start of the conversation; I asked twice for the same two questions to be answered-Why is that difficult? I realize the rate is not locked and subject to a complete loan application--too much "used car sales" with this group-I had my questions answered this afternoon with a commissioned loan consultant at a different mortgage company. read more

Recently decided to refinance our mortgage and i had heard good reviews on the radio about American Financing. I worked with Lisa Morris, who coincidentally uses to live in Kapolei. Great news as she is familiar with the area! She began the process and from start to finish this by far was the smoothest refinancing I've ever experienced! She was always courteous and friendly and always willing to answer our questions. Our process was so fast (i wont lie, I was super organized and would get her all my paperwork the same day she emailed with the request) but she was just as on-top of everything also. Do not use Amercian Financing if you are a Veteran. There agents are incopetent when it comes to understanding VA rules. I spent over $7000 on three separate attempts to fix credti numbers only to find out I did not qualify for refi with information they had day one. I called other refi companies to see how quick they would catch it, the other two I called knew in 5 minutes. I had more than one late mortgage payment in the last 12 months, this is an automatic disqualifier. Amercian Financing had my credti report day one and had the information. Instead of doing their job, they continued to have me spend money to fix credit. It put me in a horrible position and now struggling to catch up. Their masssive incompetence is a reason whey all Vets should look elswhere for mortgage refis. Stay away if you are a Veteran...they use as a tagline and do not know what they are doing. We just sold our house to someone who used American Financing as their mortgage lender. Brian Barker was the mortgage consultant and he was fantastic. He gave clear instructions of what we had to do, what the seller had to do, we did it, and today we signed the closing papers. The Title company remarked how quickly and professional American Financing was and said that they were very happy with their work. As I'm looking at some of these reviews, it would appear that some of the reviewers didn't do what they were asked to do. My wife and I recently applied for a cash-out refinance with American Finance (AFC). We purchased our home in 2012 for a financed loan through SWBC for $56k and we owe $51k currently. I've been approached by realtors to sell the house for $100k minimum, and on Zillow and Trulia the home is worth $115k, not including upgrades and an expansion. After calling AFC in late December, we were routed to Heather Lantry who was very professional and I was pretty impressed with her insights into our options for refi. I explained we wanted to wait a few months to refi, and she said to call her when we wanted to pull the trigger. Then, about an hour later, I received a phone call from a male colleague of Heather's and he was clearly trying to put me in a high pressure sales situation (I assume this is because it was two weeks before the end of the year and there are quotas, not sure though). He proceeded to be very long winded and talk over me when I told him we just weren't ready to apply for the loan and he swore multiple times while explaining he was in the same situation as we were before, and we were wasting money by not refinancing. He gave me a ton of bad math that I quickly disproved and he finally gave up and that should have been my warning not to waste my time with AFC. We decided to do the cash out refi a few weeks later and got multiple soft lending offers from SWBC, GFL Capital, Wells Fargo and AFC. AFC and GFL had the best rate and closing costs, but Heather was good to me so I went with AFC. When I told my original lender (SWBC) he told me it wouldn't be worth the $15/mo I'd save with AFC, that they were amateurs and he personally does a lot of the mortgages for their employees. I figured this was nonsense (it isn't) and stayed with AFC. I spent a few days emailing, signing docs over the computer and in person. We were ready to close, all Heather said we were waiting on was the appraisal. I called back a few days later and asked Heather when the appraisal was, and she replied that the appraiser should have contacted me. I received no phone calls or emails from the appraiser, so I called him. Paul told me he didn't bother contacting me because there were no comps for homes as small as mine (446 sq ft). I told him I had no problem getting the home appraised in just two hours when we first bought the house 3 years ago. He told me he wouldn't even come look at it since it was so small with no basement and no garage.I informed him that there is a basement, along with a sun room expansion and a complete remodel of the home in the last three years. I also pointed out we were applying for a $90k loan, and there is no single family home in Denver no matter how small that would sell for less than $90k, especially since it's been completely remodeled with all new high-end appliances etc. He told me there was no way to get comps, so he wouldn't bother to come do his job and appraise our home. I called Heather and explained to her what Paul said, and she was flustered and said she had never heard of an appraiser not bothering to go look at a house (especially since his information was wrong) and she'd call me back and maybe we could use a different appraiser. I ended up getting an email a day later that Paul sent to Heather and cc'd underwriting saying that there were no comps for my home and it was not appraisable. He sank the ship for our loan, since now there was no option to get a different appraiser, one who would actually do their job. I protested and pointed out that there are numerous ways to appraise a home value and comps are just the most typical, but it fell on deaf ears. I just received a denial of credit letter from AFC today for 'unacceptable housing'. So not only did I waste probably a dozen hours of my time, but now I'm going to have a negative mark and denial of credit on my credit report because AFC and their appraiser were to lazy to do a little extra due diligence and find the value of the home. Don't waste your time with AFC, I'm going with my original lender and I should have taken his advice... read more

So I guess if you want to be ignored and mistreated you should use American Financing. In October I called American Financing company and they sent an email asking for documents to be uploaded and told me on October 24th I would be contacted by Lori Summers at 1pm. I was in fact contacted by Lori Summers at American Financing and she said she couldnt see my documents on her end. She assured me that they will show up and she would call by the end of the week. No call, another week went by no call. Checked on line, no movement in the on line process. So now its the 11th of November haven't heard from anyone! No movement in the online portal. So I call, speak to Lori Summers she tells me they need documents from me to proceed. You could have called, emailed, texted, but no havent heard from anyone for 3 weeks. Get the documents, email them to her that night. She sends back an email. She will get it right over to process, and call as soon as she hears something back. I look on line there is movement now. Yeah right? No, again I hear nothing for a week and then another week nothing. On line movement has become stagnant, gross! Now its November 24th a whole month no calls from anyone at American Financing. I call them. Speak to Lori Summers she tells me the same thing she told me on the 11th they need these documents. I tell her I sent the to her on the 11th of November via email. She says did you get a letter from the credit company. Keep in mind this is about a dispute on a CC I have that I did not initiate nor did the CC company. So the credit bureau happily removed it. I email it over with a note how much longer is this gonna take it has been a month already. She (Lori) calls me back right away. I will call you at the end of next week (it would have been Dec 3rd) . So I say well you have promised to call two other times and haven't, she assures me she will call. No call, omg really, you cant be serious!! Today the 13th of December I get an email they denied me because they can not verify information! Really, what info?? I have a job sent first paycheck and Sept and Oct pay check, I have a bank account, sent them checking and savings statements. I have a 726 credit score, my income to debit ratio is 14% what info?? I called they said they will have Lori call me back, I laughed, said I have heard that before, the rep said I will messsge her and her manager. "She will call you" he said. I started to say ok thank you and he hung up. Wow, glad they aren't my mortgage lender. If I could have given no stars I would have! All of these Yelp reviews are 100% accurate. They do "complete" an application for you over the phone, you know one that you do not sign, before giving you the available mortgage options. I felt through every conversation I had with that all of the people employed there are SALESPEOPLE. Very pushy...(i.e this is the best option for you. The only one available, you are not going to find a better one, remember your goals, this is the only option that can help you with your goals). Especially with senior members. I felt pressured that this refinance option was the ONLY one available to me, even though it isn't. If I didn't know better, I would have taken them up on the offer. It does the general public a huge disservice that pushy salespeople sell mortgages and refinances to others. There are a lot of people that are happy with them, but to be honest every singly person I talked to at this company rubbed me the wrong way. Dominic the loan officer is the most untrained loan officer I've ever come across He is not knowledgeable he is not informed he is so unprofessional and when you call and leave a message they never never call you back I own a small business and I provided a tax return to prove income , Dominic checked everything and reassured us that everything is good. We got all excited and happy and then one week later came back and said we cannot do it because two different names on the tax returns. I immediately took my file to eagle home mortgage in Lakewood and scott got things done and I got approved and we got the house that we chose and we are extremely happy with them. Don't misunderstand the one star..... But the option for no star's or better yet negative stars isn't an option. Lower than no star's is where this company should be rated. We should have known this place was too good to be true... Nothing but BS and I guess I should have trusted the negative reviews by other hard working people. They claim to go "above and beyond", but that line must not be very high in regards to standards or they must be in the business of incompetent employees. Which, the whole salaried based "mortgage professional" is a load of garbage. All you are with this company is a number, there is no true connection or care to you and your family like a commission based associate. You, the customer are the one who has to make follow up phone calls asking how things are going and what the current status of your loan is. We should have known follow through was going to be an issue after having to make one follow up call. Promises is nothing short of lip service and by the looks of things, it's not just with our, let's call him phone answerer. We worked with Hank and were told from day one we would be taken care of and that statement could not be further from the truth. We were told everything of ours was great and ultimately easily pre-approved for the refinance of our newly built home. We were told so much that we did not have to make the current month's mortgage payment nor the month after and that our loan would fund in less than thirty days..... This was a perk to working with this nest. Well, here comes the start of lies, unprofessionalism and lack of customer service. On the last day of that first non-payment month, worse off a Sunday afternoon, we received a call from this Hank stating our loan was no longer able to be processed or approved. Now having three children, I am sure you can imagine where that large mortgage payment already went for the month of September, especially with the start of school. I attempted to contact his so-called supervisor, but adding to that customer service, Jonathan was unavailable to speak with and even better, his voice mailbox was full. That must be that family style quality service. So in turn, an email was sent, however guess who had to follow up come Monday afternoon? They claim we were pre-approved, however underwriting did not accept the fact my wife who has worked for the same company for years, was recently changed to a contractor for them and was now being 1099'd. Now mind you, this didn't happen yesterday, nor even during this process. This establishment was well and fully aware, yet we were "approved" by Hank....... Stay as far away from them as you can.... it may not hurt during the loan, but I can bet at some point they will bite you in the ass. I fell horrible for referring many to them over the past thirty days and have contacted each and every one of them regarding this, some so much as pulling their refi's from them and no longer wanting to proceed with a place like this. Kudos to our friends and I hope nothing more than a lack of work and interest from the public. read more

I've done a number of refinances in my life and I've never had as terrible of an experience as I did with American Financing. My loan consultant Lisbeth was terrible, to the point where over the time span spent trying to refinance (they told me 65 days and I ended up cancelling at 75 days and starting the process over with someone else), she messed up my disclosure documents 6 times, two of which included my name being wrong. Then, on the day before my loan was supposed to finally close, they called and said "whoops! We need an appraisal!" Which is fine, but the appraisals were two weeks out, putting my close date into the next month. It's honestly embarrassing how bad this experience was. THEN, I ended up getting a notification from my insurance policy saying my lender was updated to American Financing, which is 100% unacceptable before close on any loan EVER. Kicked off a new refinance with Pivot Lending and looking at a 35 day time frame from application - close. Much better, and better rates and loan costs to boot! Will never ever use American Financing again, and will make certain none of my friends or family does either. read more

Conversation started with how I was rejected with another lender because I host weddings at my property in the summer and I want to use a different property to borrow against if thats going to to be an issue for AFC. Vince assured there was no issue with being a wedding venue. After 9 weeks and around 100 hours of work 180 documents, their underwriters declined the application because its a wedding venue. Really high rates compared to everyone else even after buying points they are more expensive than any other company I have worked with....all that advertising has to get paid for. read more

American Financing was recommended to us by our agent, and we decided to go with them based on our realtors past experience with them. Everything seemed typical until we got to the underwriting portion. Our underwriter Joann constantly called me other names other than my own, which was disconcerting when it was obviously in front of her with all the legal documents. We would send her required paperwork, and she would ask us for the exact same paperwork a few days later. She was abrasive and made us feel like just another number. We could put up with it because we were already far along in the process and we would never have to talk to her again after we closed. When it came down to the day of closing we still hadn't received our paperwork that we were supposed to have legally sent to us 72 hours before closing. By the time we received the final numbers we were literally on our way to the title company for signing. We looked at the paperwork and the numbers were nearly $3,000 from what we had been quoted the entire process. We called Josh, the agent we had been working with and he couldn't really explain the numbers telling us that those were the numbers we had been quoted the whole time. We almost didn't go through with the closing process because the difference in money. During closing we realized where the $3,000 came from. When we had been shopping rates, my husband told Josh he needed to make the offer more competitive or we would go with a different lending company. Josh called us back and told us he knocked it down from 4.25% to 4%. We were thrilled and decided to go with American Financing. What he didn't tell us it that we did that by "paying down" our interest rate. Never once did he tell us this or provide written documentation eluding to this fact. We felt he was being very sneaky and dishonest in order to get our business, and now we don't have money to fix some major electrical issues with the house. When our realtor confronted him with all this, he basically said it wasn't his problem and there was nothing he could do to fix it. My husband and I were so disappointed with how we were treated and the outcome of events. We can never in good conscious suggest American Financing to friends or family, and will never use them again due to this experience. read more
