Love the guys here. Have taken a few 1x1 classes and we typically go to the range 1 time a week. It can get busier on Friday/ Sat nights but we have always been able to get in to shoot. Large/ long ranges, nice/ helpful RSOs. I feel safe here as a newer shooter. Great place! read more

He explained everything in easy to understand language, was patient and I left with a better understanding of gun safety and how to handle a firearm. Could not have been better 1-1/2 hrs. Took the Intro to Shoot Course yesterday. Both my instructor Darius and Jim behind the desk were very friendly and welcoming. I was in a small class which allowed me to ask questions and not feel like I was taking up class time. Darius was a great instructor in the classroom and on the range. It's too bad because this range is super conveniently located for me, and they accommodate a variety of firearms--I own a couple of ARs, a shotgun, and several handguns. However, my overall experience has been less than ideal due to the range officers. The officers here are overly strict and constantly micromanage shooters, which is unlike any other range I've visited. Their rules seem excessive and make you feel like you're being targeted rather than welcomed. It makes me wonder why they enforce such stringent protocols. Is it because they're situated in a more urban area and dealing with a different crowd? Have past incidents led them to adopt this rigid approach? Or could there be some unconscious bias at play, especially since other ranges I've been to maintain standard safety protocols without making patrons feel scrutinized? One particular instance stands out: I went to the range with a buddy, and we each wanted our own lanes. Despite having visited multiple times before, the manager wouldn't allow it, which was really strange. Other ranges I've visited have been more flexible in similar situations, so it's puzzling why this place is so inflexible. While the location and firearm selection are definite positives, the way the range officers handle things significantly detracts from the experience. It would be great if they could find a better balance between enforcing safety and making shooters feel comfortable and respected. read more

This place is great, not only is the staff some of the nicest guys around, they have a combined several years of experience with firearms and are skilled at teaching firearms and safety training. This place is quite large with two indoor ranges for both rife and pistol, plus training classrooms to train for both MA and RI LTC qualification. Plus they have a huge selection of rental weapons to try both rifle and pistol and they are a very safe place with range safety officers carefully observing all movements in both ranges. They also sell targets and ammo and other gear. Membership here is a good price and the hours are also good and its convenitenly located on the Attleboro/Plainville line. read more

I am officially done with this place after one day that I went there to take two people to shoot for the first time. They denied us one day because one person in my group didn't have a government passport but had a government id from her country. I was told by my friend later on that they let his mom shoot there with no problem and his mom had a similar government Id issue as us. So I went there the next day and the range officer kept on stopping us every few seconds to see my guns and try to teach us how to shoot when I know how to shoot and received extensive training before then. It was annoying and I really wanted to tell him to back off because for all I know he was trying to impress the two people because they are girls. Then I took out an AR-15 for them to shoot and the range officer acted like I was holding a nuke and started to freak out and question me like crazy. He pretty much ripped it out of my hands like I was going to shoot someone with it. Keep this in mind that it was not loaded and pointed in a safe direction so I have no idea why he was acting like that. It was so embarrassing and they said I couldn't use green tip ammunition which they did not check at check in so I was forced to turn in my ammunition in order to keep shooting like a kid. So I was mad at them for embarrassing me in front of people but after I was about leave I saw that they have shotgun ammo for sell at a good price so I figured I will buy some. I asked if the ammo is buckshot and they said yes and that you can use the ammo at their range. So I decided to buy it and hope I can use it at a different range. I went home which is like 40 minutes away and found out it was bird shot and not buckshot like they said. I called them up immediately and they said birdshot is not allowed at indoor ranges and also their range as well. I complained that they sold me it and that I had a receipt to prove it. I had to go back there again to get a refund back and return the ammo. They have the nerve to criticize me on what ammo can and cannot be used in their range when they are selling ammo that can't be used in their range when they just said that all ammo they sell can be used their. So yea thanks but no thanks. I got a membership at a different range and going there for now on. read more

Had my first firearms training with Jim. He was very patient with me as I am a new gun owner. I never even loaded my gun before so he had to start from square one with me. He taught me so much in my 1 hour course and has made me very comfortable handling my gun. I would expect at any range or firearms school for the staff to be courteous and professional and safe. I've been here multiple times for the range as well as for training classes. I understand how some would say these guys are "rude", I don't see these guys as warm and cozy - but don't expect warm and cozy at a range - expect all business. I'd like to feel safe, it's not about my feelings it's about my security. Their range officers are all business - they will approach and correct you unapologetically. They have some decent selections of targets, mace, safes, magazines and holsters. Their prices are ok - just shop around. read more

Growing up in a peace-loving family in Iowa, my childhood obsession with Annie Oakley was first met with mild amusement but as it continued through middle school there was concern that I would embrace the hick around me and wind up drinking Mt. Dew in a trailer park with a kid on each hip, a cig hanging out my mouth and a shotgun slung over my shoulder. Had you asked me, a black leather, Harley, Smith and Wesson something and blood red lipstick would have been perfect. AFS allowed me to carry out the first step in pathetically attempting to become a seriously bad ass beotch. I should note however, that this was a mere fantasy and while I appreciate the recreational value in shooting I held strong predjudices about gun-crazed folk. This was a good venue/experience to shake up those misconceptions. The range is one of few in Mass that welcomes the public and thus attracts high traffic but remains shockingly clean and organized. After a basic tutorial by a fellow there and Yelp's own firearms expert, Christopher M, we hit the lanes. Throughout the afternoon we palmed: .22 .38 & .357 revolver .45 Colt? 9mm SIGG AK 47 LaGrange with a bayonet at the end and a big freakin' shotgun Chris was indispensable, instructing in loading, stance and breathing - so I'd suggest going with a vet to show you the ropes. It was interesting to have an insight into the sport and beauty and art of these powerful machines. For $20 + ammo I walked away vibrantly awake, feet solidly on the ground. I want more. read more

What better way to spend a Sunday morning than by getting your hands on some firearms, packing a mag, aiming, and firing at an unassuming paper target. They have a classroom here where you sign a waiver and can have a brief safety instruction. Ours was given to us by Christopher and his friend. They were very informative about gun safety, and making sure everyone was aware of the proper way to handle a firearm. After signing the aforementioned waiver and giving up your ID, you get your eyes and ears, pay your range fee, get some ammo, and get onto a lane. If you don't have a firearm that you're borrowing like I did, they do have a few options for rental. You walk down the hallway, and the smell of gunpowder hits you as soon as you walk through the first door preparing to enter the firing range. When you walk in you see 12 lanes, ready to have targets hung and off you go! We all started with the .22s and then worked our way up to the big boys. I told Christopher prior to attending that I wanted to shoot something with so much kick that it left a bruise on my arm. Needless to say, he did not disappoint. At the end of the day I walked out with some targets I was proud to display on my 'fridge, a huge smile on my face, and the want to do it all over again. AFS facilities were clean, staff was helpful, ammo was readily available (and to someone who doesn't buy ammo the prices weren't too bad), targets were in varying shapes and sizes, and they were super easy to find... just a hop, skip, and a jump off of I-95. I give this place 2 stars because I had the EXACT same experience here when I was obtaining my LTC. The class and the instructor were both EXCELLENT. They were very patient and thorough. I walked away from this thinking that I should schedule some time to come back and buy a year membership. I did just that and the experience was completely different. I walked in to rent a firearm and range time (and then a yearly membership after) and they do NOT tell you that you need to be accompanied by another person when renting a firearm until you have been waiting for a lane. I had to wait 30 minutes just for them to tell me "sorry boss" and completely ignore me while they move on to the next person. I took my $300 and left frustrated and went to look for another place. People need clear expectations and need to be guided when they are new to the world of firearms. They treat newbies very poorly outside of the class environment here. Regardless of a persons experience, they are still spending money at your business and need to be treated accordingly. read more

Beginners Beware! Unless your an expert in the fire arms department stay away from this place! They are awful to newbies. I was working towards my LTC and went here to ask some questions, the person behind the counter said "unless you have another person with you or your own firearm you can't shoot here" ....no explanation? A couple months later I get my LTC from the police department, I come here again show it to the ROBOT behind the counter and get the same answer "unless you have another person with you or own your own firearm I can't help you..." Great bud, thanks for your help... hey maybe I have questions? Maybe I'm new at this? Take more than 30 seconds to just turn me away. What I will say is the $40 gun class is wonderful and the instructor is great... I would recommend that highly. I've been here twice now, and have been impressed each time by the caliber of the staff, range, and firearms available. I came here first for the "Learn To Shoot" class--$40 a pop, and you get a semi-personal lesson on gun handling and safety. The instructor makes sure everyone knows which eye is dominant, that people feel comfortable, and, most importantly, that their form is correct and they know how to BE SAFE. Plus, the class comes with 20 rounds (shot with a .22), and because of the little tricks I picked up from my instructor, I was able to shoot straight almost every single time. I didn't realize how good of a marksman I was. *Brushes dirt off shoulder* After my 20 rounds were up, I decided to try out a Beretta 9mm, and that was an awesome experience because I actually felt confident since I knew how to handle a gun properly and safely. They have a bunch of different paper targets available at the counter, where you rent your firearm, and I'd highly recommend grabbing a few of them and marking which hole was from whom--a simple (but fun) game. And the guns all feel different, so make sure you rent one that "feels" good in your hand. Case in point: the last time I went, I tried out a Glock, but I didn't like it nearly as much as the Beretta since 1) there was no safety 2) it was so small and light that the recoil shocked the heck out of me 3) it didn't fit as "nicely." It's just a feel thing. Anyway, definitely a good experience--something I'd recommend if you've ever been interested in shooting and have never been, or if you know how to shoot and want a good, clean place to do it. As a novice gun gal, the American Firearms School appealed to me on a few different levels. This is a great public range, busy but very well kept, offering a range of different firearms to choose from. You can start small with a .22 and work your way up. OR If you're beginner but you have the "Go Big or Go home" motto, they have plenty of bigger, badder options. In our outing, I used only the guns that Christopher brought (what can I say? He has NICE guns!), but purchased ammo from the range. I cannot comment on the fairness of prices, as I do not regularly buy ammo, but let's just say between our group, we bought a ton, no one complained about the price and we had some left over! Conclusion: you can definitely get our money's worth here! The staff was relatively patient with our large group, many of whom have never shot a gun before. And we rolled deep with about 18 ppl and no reservation (just a call a an hour or so ahead) and they were able to accommodate all of us (rotating turns) on a Sunday afternoon. I have a feeling we'll be back for more fun with firearms. And safety, of course! read more

Went here last Saturday and did the $40 learn to shoot package. I was nervous coming in - I'm a pudgy, late 20-something with a decidedly liberal bent and was worried that I was walking into a NRA rally. I was 100% wrong. Once I got there and saw the range and was introduced to Jeff M., my worries disappeared. My preconceptions were totally inaccurate - As they most often are. Jeff, our instructor, was patient, kind, well informed and a great teacher all around. He took safety seriously, but didn't do so in a way that obstructed our enjoyment. Let me say, I had a great time! The little .22's we shot were a great tool to learn on. I'm planning to go back soon - I think I'm hooked! Great customer service. Our phone call was promptly answered. The questions we asked were answered quickly. Upon arrival we went through the safety rules and signed the hourly use paperwork. Coming to this range is a great option for someone who can't get to the range they belong to or just wants to go once in a while and not join a club. We went today to sight in our hunting rifles and test out our revolvers. They do have membership rates as well for those who want to join. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. We will definitely be back to sight in shotguns for deer season and when I get my coyote gun. How can you beat indoor rifle and shotgun??? That's great. Stopped in with my girlfriend ready to shoot. We both have unrestricted LTC. After 15 min to fill out a 2 page waiver they insist that we have to take THEIR learn to shoot class. The desk clerk looked genuinely suprised when I said No. And took back my license and tore their waiver in half. If they asked a few professional questions and asked to watch us run through a few mags we would have spent our money there. Instead we went to the competition and happily spent our money there. I finally got around to taking that Learn to Shoot class at American Firearms School... The only other time I ever shot live ammo was when I was a camp counselor back in HS. So there's 4 of us in the class... The instructor takes us into a classroom, and teaches us how to load the magazine (with plastic dummy rounds), the action button, the safety, etc.. of a .22 Ruger Mark III pistol.. So after about 15 minutes of having each one of us handle the pistol, load the mag, etc, we head into the range with 100 rounds. They start us out at 3 yds. After about 10 rounds, I start playing around with the target distances...It was fun, the gun was easy to handle, and I even learned how to safely clear a few jams. So we finish and head back out to the lobby. The other three decide they want to shoot something bigger.. so they pick an AK-47 and ask me if I want to join them. So we each buy a box of ammo, a target, and share the rental cost of the rifle and head to the rifle range.. First thing I notice is how freaking loud the AK is... there were some other folks in there shooting shotguns and larger capacity handguns, and the AK was as loud as they were. Overall, it was a lot of fun.. The instructor was very helpful and friendly... Serious when he needed to be and looser when it was appropriate. I was a bit nervous at first, but settled down after a couple of shots. Overall, I would say this is a great program... for $40 I got a basic primer on gun handling, and got to shoot 100 rounds. 4 stars only because I have nothing to compare it to. read more

I have been here twice so far. The first time was for a Yelp Event. It was my second time shooting, and I had about 20 mins to do so (I had to work). I knew what I wanted to shoot, and I knew what I needed for ammo. So I flew through a box in about 15 mins.. Left me about 5 minutes to chat with some of the other Yelpers, all of which I had never met before (minus Chris M). Because I was on a time restraint, I couldn't really look around and see everything. So second time around, the man and I went here on a Saturday around 4 pm. Walked in and got squared away with no problems. They were dead. As the man is doing his paper work, I realize the guy working the counter is none other than my 6th grade teacher. Holy sh*t! Was that weird. You don't really associate teachers with firearms, but whatever. He was extremely helpful. He was also sympathetic to my feelings towards higher caliber firearms. They still make me kinda nervous so I prefer to stick with a .22 cal. He even told me not to let anyone talk me out of a 22, because it will get the job done, if need be. So I got a 22 cal, and the man go a 9 mm. We get over to the range, put on our eyes and ears, and head inside. We get into our lanes, and low and behold my cop friend is shooting away next to us. He went and bought himself a brand new baby, that he just had to try out. He even let us try it out. The area is clean and well lit. They have a decent selection of rentals and ammo. The prices are reasonable. And the staff is awesome! read more

If you need to learn to shoot a gun in a hurry, this is your spot. As a girl from Texas, everyone thought I was born with a gun in my hand. Decidedly not the case. So to get up to speed I took a crash course at American Firearms School. And I got just that - a safety course that taught me how to hold it, load it, disarm it and shoot it. Most other places require 8 hour safety courses and licenses, but here all you need is an hour. No frills, just shooting. Maybe I should have read the website more closely, but I was hoping for an outdoor shooting experience or more exciting targets. The indoor shooting area was dark and cramped. There were also slightly too many little boys playing with big guns for my taste. I swear one had a bazooka. The tiny echoing gun room is noisy enough without something like that in the booth next to you. I just think I would like a little more space between me and the retired marines practicing timed drills. read more

As someone who grew up with firearms, I have seen my fair share of unsafe and unprofessional gun shops and shooting ranges. Furthermore it is almost impossible to find a gun store or range that provides any type of customer service. This place is great! Only about 35 minutes from Boston. Very friendly staff who are experts on the weapons they provide. They were nice to my girlfriend and I and gave us very practical advice. The range office is huge and has an extremely nice and comfortable lounge with windows that allow guests to see the range. Extremely honest and gracious staff. Very fair prices too! Also they have a staff member at the range at all times to make sure no one does anything "stupid." Great place to relieve some steam. This is my second firing range and by far the cleaner one Locker rooms are available. The shop looks very well put together. The firearms are placed in sturdy suitcases for safe transport. The previous range did not provide the suitcases. This place definitely gets an extra star for safety. The staff was very helpful. We got to try the AR 15 and the Beretta M92f. An hour of mayhem was around $100 for 2 people. read more

I stumbled across it online somehow, and decided to try it out last year for the first time... even gave my fiance a gift certificate for a free lesson for Valentine's day, and we're not even red necks!! Having never been properly acquainted with firearms outside of the digital realm, the half hour instruction on firearm safety and proper instruction by the staff and reaffirmed by Christopher was extremely illuminating, not the least of which were: a). Bullets load into the magazine butt end first. b). Waving a gun (empty or loaded) about is the fast way of getting tackled to the ground. Access to the range was only $20. Rentals and instruction were available at the site. You will need to sign a lengthy waiver and go through a short class prior to using the facilties. Bullets were inexpensive for the .22's and goes up from there depending on what you feel like sampling. And if you're thinking of misbehavin', don't. They check and store your ID at the door. I have been going to AFS to use the range sporadically for the last five or so years. Over this time, I have seen a wide range of customer service and friendliness. The range includes so-so employees that I have noticed do not reappear, to recognizable grizzled old vets. I took my gun safety class at AFS for a reasonable 100 dollar fee, and had a good time. The class was interesting enough to hold my attention (I had been shooting for a few years before taking this class, but I still learned some new things), and not too long. Plus you end the day with a quick 50 shots on the range. The most important part of this class was the instructor basically telling you exactly what to say when applying for your LTC, and differentiating Boston's requirments from the rest of MA. AFS teaches a wide variety of more advanced classes as well, the schedules of which can be found on AFS' website. The store out front is pretty nice, although it was under repairs or construction the last time I was there. They have some nice tactical gear/holsters and carrying cases, and a wide range of ammo (on the pricey side, but that seems to be the trend of the year). You can rent firearms, which is nice if you want to try out a caliber you've never shot before buying it. The range itself is well ventilated, 75 feet, and has a good electronic system to move your target downrange. The only problem is the place can get busy, and I have occasionally showed up only to be turned away because there is a class being run, or LEOs/ROTC taking up the lanes. You can call ahead before heading over, but I live about 40 minutes away, so that doesn't always work. They also have a decent website/schedule. All in all, this is a pretty solid indoor range for pistol practice, but I would take your rifle/shotguns elsewhere. read more

I finished the Learn to Shoot program for beginners just yesterday afternoon. I went in to become comfortable shooting a weapon as I had an unfounded fear of guns. My instructor was GREAT. He was knowledgable, patient, stopped for questions frequently and I loved that I went in on a Friday afternoon and had the instructor all to myself. Only 3 other people on the firing range too so I wasn't too intimidated when it was time to shoot. And the biggest surprise- I felt totally comfortable and in control because of how he taught me before we entered the range! Slow and steady pressure on the trigger and boom! I had good aim at 3ft, 5ft, then I moved to 7ft and had some crazy strays. But for a first time shooter, I'm so impressed. I'm also addicted. GREAT, SAFE, CLEAN PLACE TO SHOOT!!!! Went there this past weekend with my fiance...we are experienced shooters just looking for a different place to target practice! My fiance just bought an AR and there are not many indoor places you can shoot an AR...But here you can!! The staff was very friendly. They have a large store with a variety of targets, ammunition, clothing, and more! They allow non members to shoot for $20 per person and you can rent any of their hand guns or rifles. I also saw Tuesday nights Ladies shoot free!!! When we got in the range, I felt safer then most places. They had a range officer in there just checking to make sure everyone was following the rules and being safe! I know there have been ranges where people are screwing around and someone could really get hurt...but not here!! They are serious and SAFE Their Range is HUGE and the Range Target system is Digital, FAST and flips from back to front! When you need to slide your target forward there is a shift button that Slides it fast back to you. Had a blast here...Literally and will definitely be back if we are in the area! read more

Because many real ranges require a membership, have a waiting list spanning years and require volunteer work hours to maintain the grounds the majority of casual shooters looking to go rent a lane to shoot their guns every once in a while find this place to be convenient and for that it's not bad. The employees are relatively nice and courteous, the classes informative for their level but as a whole it's very corporate, crowded, suffers long waits but above all stuffs you with all kinds of rules. Many corporate owned places like this for the most part have staff that comes and goes like a revolving door so no one really gets to know you and the staff has to be continously strict, talking the party line, there just is no other way around it. I get it, guns can be dangerous, there are a lot of fools in this world who might not be safe with guns and to top it off the range is located in Massachusetts which suffers from very strict gun laws but has traffic from neighboring Rhode Island whose laws are far less strict. A certain standard has to be followed because there is no way around it but unfortunately this can take away from a greatly personalized experience you might enjoy at a more family owned place such as Midstate or Sakonnet River Outfitters or Peacedale. Sadly most of the people coming here are not within convenient driving distance of these three superb family owned places, so unless you are ready to get on the list for places like Manville or Smithfield sportsmens and do the hours, you are stuck. The range is serviceable but usually very cramped and crowded. Rules are rigorously enforced which is annoying but mostly a good thing. It's just that there are nicer ranges out there as already mentioned which for example have better spall and ricochet protection so if you have an unusual type of gun that needs to be cleared or loaded a certain way you don't always have to point the muzzle exactly at the back stop. These same naked cement walls also take away from the experience with every shot fired from anything bigger or more powerful than a modest 22 will reverberate and reflect every bit of sound wave to punching your inner organ tissues so aside from their tight schedule it's hard to actually want to spend more than an hour shooting here. The smell isn't that great which tells me the ventilation systems are a bit antiquated compared to other, more updated ranges with recent models where it's almost impossible to smell the various aromas of different burnt powder. Other facilities are mediocre with tables sporting metal edges that can scratch your guns. Prices here are very high, they do take advantage of the inexperienced, novice shooters who don't know their way around this world. For example I've seen boxes of 22LR ammunition which normally should go for 3-5 dollars a box of 50 sell for about 10 dollars, plain jain 9mm boxes of 50 selling for 20-30 dollars when the fair price is half that or splattering targets sell for those who failed to bring their own sell for $2.95 when you can buy them by the dozen online for a dollar apiece. One nice perk is that despite being unable to sell ammunition to those without a state of MA firearms card, they can store it for you up to 30 days if you don't shoot it all in your stay. You need to show up with a gun in order to shoot here, they will not let you rent one of theirs without first showing up with something else. That said there is a strict rule about not taking your guns out of the case in the store area so you can "fool' them by showing up with a 25 dollar BB or pellet gun, which can open up the rental option if you don't own guns. As a bonus airguns are not regulated in Massachusetts so you don't have to worry about keeping it locked or carrying into the state of MA. On the other hand if you're a Rhode Islander it is legal for you to bring long guns here provided the external magazines are Mass compliant and the case holding them is locked. As far as handguns for out of staters these are legal as well provided they too are in a locked case so long as you are attending a competition in MA which American Firearms School helps oblige by holding handgun competitions every hour on the hour. In both cases you can only stop at the range at which you shoot and have to leave the state without even grabbing a bite to eat or gas so plan accordingly. This range despite its limitations, many of which are not its fault, fulfills a niche of convenience for many people. A few short years ago it felt like the only game in town. Beyond the very casual entry into the sport, it's worth getting on the waiting list of your local range and doing what feels like 30 silly volunteer hours or taking the drive to other, more modern and family owned establishments that cater more towards better service. read more
