This is by far the best place for your grooming needs. From the time you walk in, you get the vibe of the old school barbershop feel. Nice perks like hot espresso while you wait doesn't hurt, and the wait is never long. Though I can not comment on how the other barbers here, I can attest that Mike (in the chair farthest from the door) is a master of his craft. Amazing upscale "guys" barbershop with great hardwood floors and re purposed Martha Clara wine barrels turned into sinks. When walking in step up and help yourself to the complimentary Kurieg machine and have a cup of coffee and on some days they even pour espresso from a legit restaurant quality espresso machine. Fantastic barber shop for men. Mike and his cousin James run a cool modern shop with quality cuts and high end products. 4 chairs, cash only, appointment only. They also do facial hair (shaves, beards) similarly by appointment. It's nice to be able to sit among guys while they shoot the breeze and get cuts. Great spot. This place is awesome! If you are looking for a barber that actually listens to you and doesn't give you the old... "You want a number 2 on the sides", then this is the place for you! Mike is incredible, gave me one of the best haircuts ever. Wish I didn't live so far, otherwise I would be a customer for sure. Checked this place out once during a morning where they were not busy- only one customer. I waited for five minutes, while the barber ( possible owner? ) finished a conversation with said customer, only to be told I had to make an appointment. Could you not have told me that when I first walked in?? There were no other barbers in the store. Left with a very poor impression since he idiotically gave me a card to make an appointment- could he not have taken the appointment there and then ? Such a pity, because while there are plenty of barbershops in the area, it is hard to find a good one, and for now I have to travel half an hour to Madmen in Wantagh for quality service. Hopefully they'll hire more barbers, and sort out their business model, as the neighborhood is screaming out for a quality barbershop. Unfortunately first impressions matter, and for me this was not a good one. read more

Cool retro-chic friendly atmosphere; by appointment only and always clean and neat. Precision men and boys haircuts - no rushing through a cut ever. Hot towel shaves, beard and mustache shaping. My now 18 year old son first started getting his hair cut by Mike H. 11 years ago, before American Gentleman opened and we followed him there when they first opened. Since then he's had his hair cut by Mike H. as well as the other barbers at A.G. and all are super professional, patient and gentle with kids. Highly recommended. read more

I've only been gone from Long Island for a couple weeks and I already miss American Gentleman. I'm searching for a new barber shop in my new city and daunting doesn't even begin to describe this search. I guess I shouldn't be shocked since it took me years and years to find the hidden gem that is Mike, James and their newest addition, Joe. Some may complain that they work by appointment, but it really is a beautiful thing to show up, sit down, and get your cut without a wait. Once upon a time they were a walk-in shop and I vividly remember waiting patiently for 2+ hours(on busy days) - and it was ALWAYS worth the wait. The reality is that Mike could pack up American Gentleman and move to any number of cities or even other Long Island towns and charge double to triple what he does now. But Mike is a gentleman of principle. Born and bred in Lindenhurst, he's brought an awesome shop to the neighborhood and he enjoys many long time clients and friends. Sure he wishes he could increase the output of the shop so that people don't leave dismayed by the appointment model, but he won't sacrifice the quality that truly represents the American Gentleman brand. read more

This is, by and far, one of the worst Barbershops I've ever been to. They completely destroyed My Hair. I literally just left There and can honestly say that going here was a complete mistake and a total waste of time. When a Customer tells You that You cut two inches off that they specifically told You to leave, You just failed in cutting Their Hair, You don't ask to get paid, and then keep the change as Your tip. I got told that this was the Haircut I asked for, despite repeatedly saying 'That's too short.' I had bangs, and an actual Hairstyle when I walked into this Dive, not anymore. They Butchered Me. I'm guessing every other reviewer must get Their heads shaved, because from My own personal experience, these Guys fail at cutting Hair. This looks hideous, and I want a refund. read more

Always a great haircut at AG. You need an appointment so there is no wait. Easy parking up front. Haircuts start on time so you can manage your schedule better. BTW - In case you didn't catch it by the name, the place is for men and boys only. Highly recommended. read more
