Sadly, still woefully understaffed. Held out hope, a new executive director was hired but after two weeks they are gone. Very, very few employees last the ones that do are extraordinary. Food is inconsistent, both in quality and presentation. Cleanliness(smelly carpets)is also a concern. Not enough parking in either lot. I do hope and pray corporate in Michigan reads these reviews because this building holds so much promise. read more

My Mother In Law has now been a resident for over ten months. Things are getting worse. Rooms not cleaned for weeks on end, food has gone downhill-bratwurst for dinner! Staffing is woefully understaffed. Management blames all on no available workers. We are paying to have rooms cleaned, laundry done, food prepared by a "Ritz Carlton Chef", trash picked up. Sadly, we are cleaning the room, preparing food in the microwave, doing all laundry and emptying trash-Very, very discouraging. read more

My in-laws live there. The physical building is really nice. Their apartment works really well for them. We visit frequently and the front staff is pleasant, the common areas are clean, and we feel our family is taken care of. However, we have eaten there many times with them and the food and restaurant staff are awful. Every single time we have been there to eat the server has appeared annoyed at us, they do not know what they are serving, they never come back to check if we need anything else, they do not refill any drinks, they are just not pleasant to these people who live there and have to eat there every single day of there lives. I understand that it is not a 5 Star restaurant, but given that the residents have no stove/oven or option to cook full meals in their apartments, this is where they are expected to eat all the time. With that said, the restaurant/cafeteria should provide a much more pleasant experience to people who are paying a lot of money to live there. read more

We took my loved one out of American House immediately following hospitalization, severe trauma and brain bleeding which no employee could explain, they were absolutely heartless. Words can not do it justice how uncaring, unprofessional and UNSAFE American House is. Horrid place. read more

After spending a lot of time visiting American House, I have to say that I'm really touched with the lengths they will go to look out for loved ones. I was genuinely moved by how much they cared about making someone new feel at home and with their ongoing treatment and care for that person. From the front desk to upper management it was a great experience and continues to be so long after our introduction to the facility. Its a lovely building with a lot of amenities but most important they care about comfort and well being of those that live there. read more

I am a refugee from American House Coconut Point. As a retired physician with a spinal cord injury, residency was PM&R, my perspective on old-folks homes differs from that of most people. Other reviews note understaffing, and I have heard rumors that people in Memory Care sometimes don't get their prescribed drugs on schedule. My autopay of rent was forgotten one month, and the staff tried to charge me for a late payment. (I fought and won this issue). Large-handle eating utensils and rocker knives for people with arthritic hands or other hand impairments are not offered including no suggestion to have someone purchase them. They don't require a prescription and there is no excuse for their being unavailable or even mentioned. Maintenance stood me up when I moved in and sought help with my large-screen TV and made an appointment for same and, later, flatly refused to tighten the loose toilet-bolts in my bathroom. The Wii device in the shared TV room was left unrepaired and unreplaced for months despite residents' interest in it; a budget deficit was cited as the reason. The monthly social-events calendar, which I admit does have many fun events, is restricted by "corporate" to about five lines per day, each line a few characters long; and when I mentioned that some event descriptions overflow from one line to the next and thereby crowd out events later in the day so that the latter events do not appear on the calendar at all, I was told that "corporate" refused to permit abbreviations and the Coconut Point staff was forced into an admittedly bad policy on that calendar. As I was preparing to leave, suppers were converted from a menu from which to choose to a take-it-or-leave-it protocol, vividly reminding me of jail. Morale among staff members is low (see high turnover rates), and I received sympathy from some of them when I said I was leaving. read more

STAY AWAY!! This is one of the worst facilities. Each day, they run out of food within a half hour and the food is inedible. The absolute lowest quality. The residents have been complaining about the food for weeks, and the complaints go unnoticed. The staff is completely unaccountable, lie about completing resident requests/needs, do not ensure medicine is swallowed by residents and do not respond to resident buzzers. Zero accountability by staff and Corporate doesn't care about poor quality of service/standards. I would not recommend this to anyone. read more

The Memory Care Unit at Coconut Point in Estero is deplorable!! The lack of accountability, the lack of supervision, the neglect of the residents, the unsanitary conditions, and the lack of concern and care for the residents is disgusting!! Having spent countless hours there each day to care for my loved one, as well as for others, I am relieved to have moved to another facility. My advice to anyone considering this facility is to "Keep Away" and do not believe the false statements that they provide. Their main objective is to collect the monthly check, not the care of your loved one! read more
