She already had friends there, the staff knew her and she felt comfortable with the move in. The care takers are patient and caring, they make her laugh and she tells me how "sweet" they are. She recently moved into the renovated cottage and the garden/courtyard is beautiful. She doesn't always want to participate in outings and gatherings, but I appreciate the staff firmly encouraging her or else she would enjoy just relaxing in her "apartment" coloring and listening to music.

The most important feature is the residents and staff. Many people have reached out to us to join them for dinner, golf, and other activities. My mother has been a resident in Memory Care at The Gallery at Cape Coral, formerly The Waters,…read moresince Jan 2023. Frankly, I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is. My family and I are here very nearly every day, at all different times, so we see all different shifts, departments and activities. The nursing staff and care givers are AMAZING; warm, competent, PATIENT, professional, fun, engaging and very loving to the residents. From the drivers, to the therapists, activities, facilities team, front desk staff, housekeeping, sales & marketing...they all have a moment for a quick word, a hug, a laugh, a warm smile. The staff operates as a team, focusing on each individual resident and their life enrichment. Of course, at times issues occur. They are dealt with quickly and any necessary changes made with little drama. I have witnessed the Director of Nursing giving clear and direct correction to the team - and yet still with a respectful, compassionate and team/resident focused attitude. While safety is paramount, unfortunately there are occasional accidents / falls. They clearly have tight policies in place, and the staff react IMMEDIATELY; often running to help, quickly assessing the situation, calling for appropriate nursing assistance, and securing EMT'S if necessary. They also manage the other residents keeping them supervised and calm, while handling the emergency. There was a fall recently, and the med tech reacted to the unusual loud SOUND, before even the resident called out. He and another CNA stayed with the resident, the Director of Nursing was there within 2 minutes, and the EMT's were on scene within about 6 minutes. The reception team always have a kind word to say and a warm welcome. My brother, who lives out of state, visited in Nov. He was warmly greeted by Leon, who remembered him even though his last visit was in February. Leon is also regularly found playing chess with a resident, while he is watching the door, working the phones, etc. When you walk past the front desk and find the Director of Nursing covering the desk because the receptionist requested to attend the funeral of a resident that speaks volumes about the team environment and resident/family focus of this facility. The facility itself is lovely, and they truly use the entire place. They have everything available to the residents, and although mom is on the Memory Care side, we often share in the Assisted Living events, meals, bus trips, etc. They are truly inclusive and make accommodations for all the residents to enjoy and live their best life. The activities are a major focus for us, and this is very key to Mom's happiness. There are loads of things scheduled all day long and they do their best to keep the residents engaged both mentally & physically, with ability-appropriate activities, or just inclusion for those unable to participate. Stimulating music, sing a longs, dancing, bingo, arts & crafts, decorating, garden club, nail care/manicures, pet therapy, bowling, axe-throwing (a BIG favorite), movies and so many more keep the residents engaged and active. When my mom sees the activities director and walks away from me to hug HER it warms my heart. Additionally, Jodi goes and gets Mom and the residents she knows want to participate, plus encouraging the others to come today to check it out. Inclusive, fun, joyful, and engaging. As well as summer picnics, dinner dances, bus rides, lunch outings, the facility also has special events planned around the holidays. These always include getting the residents dressed up and groomed just a bit more special...whether the families are there or not. They go to great lengths to make this 'home' for each person. They check on mom two to three times each night, often two CNA's together, changing her if she needs it and making sure she is comfortable and resting well. The dining room is lovely and set up well, the food excellent, and they serve as if you are at your favorite restaurant. And while memory care needs special considerations in their dining room and isn't as 'fancy' it is still wonderful and completely appropriate for the clientele. The residents are given appropriate choices, and yet their preferences are noted, so if they are unable to answer they are still served as if they did. IF someone has trouble eating, the staff will feed them, gently and with kindness. And if someone is perhaps ill or just needs a little special treatment, a different meal, Burger, BLT, grilled cheese, is provided. We researched quite a few places before deciding on placement. Mom has thrived under the care provided here, as have so many of the residents, and I am grateful I found this place at this time in her life.

Nov 26, 2024…read more My dad has been a resident at GCV since July 2022. He was also a rehab patient in the TCU in Nov 2019. My mom was admitted to The Cove, Memory Care in Dec 2023. After more than two years, I can truly say I wouldn't have my parents any other place. From the Reception team; who pay attention to everything around them, know where people should be (and who belongs to who) and answer questions while directing someone and securing the main doors as well. Angel is aways willing to go above and beyond, even beyond the 'lines' of her role, to do that little extra that really differentiates exceptionalism. To the Housekeeping team; Who are continually attending to cleaning, mopping, wiping tables and surfaces to keep things clean & Fresh. Recently, one of the residents attempted walkabout thru the secured doors, when the Nurse called out for help - Yaneya was the first person to respond, securing her cart, and running to help out. True teamwork in action. The Activity Team; Such a vital role in the satisfaction of the residents! recently doing an activity, and in between the actual game they were playing, Aimee managed to walk around to all the residents and engage each one individually, even the ones who were not 'at the table' so to speak. She truly has a gift, and her positive energy is unparalleled. She makes everyone feel welcomed, engaged, and valued. She truly has a gift in that she meets each resident where they are, and brings them OUT to be happier, and brighter and engaged. With the different ability levels of the residents, I know it is challenging for her, yet she does it with Joy and laughter. Laughter being a key and vital role in the happiness of the residents. She takes time to engage with each resident and family, with hugs, touch, laughter and fun activities. Her energy is infectious, and you can see how the residents really respond to her because of it. The Nutrition Team; I am impressed with the level of compassion shown in the organization for the dining experience. From the Bistro, greeting the residents, to serving them a 3 course meal, Then bringing the meal ticket and discussion the menu, what would they prefer to eat? It just shows such gentleness and care and a huge level of respect for the residents to make them feel 'normal' and not a burden or a number. You can see how this impacts the residents and gives them a feeling of 'going Out to Lunch/Dinner', either with the ladies, or those dining at mixed group tables. I have overheard Trina encouraging a resident telling her how great she looks, how nice it was to see her back, how much better she must be feeling, how well she was eating, etc. like a favored customer in Their favorite restaurant, NOT a Nursing home resident. To the Room other common-room diners, Who get a warm tray, with a nicely presented meal, with soup and dessert, and have their meal set up pleasantly for them, and assisting them if necessary. And all this while you are monitoring their food intake, managing the varying levels of eating ability, and ensuring appropriate nursing care has eyes on. And the Care Team; Early on when Mom was first admitted I was having trouble with the degradation of her condition. On one particularly hard day when I was having trouble holding it together, Nurse Carol was watching me, came over and asked if She could give me a hug. She then proceeded to tell me that it was all OK, that Mom would be fine...and that I would be as well. This is so characteristic of her kind nature and amazing compassion. Watching her residents, caring for them efficiently, yet watching everything else that is going on as well. She is finely attuned to her residents needs and for example, if she sees that mom seems to be in pain, she is ready for some extra care, and meds if necessary. I see only positive interactions between the Care team in the Cove. By conversation and body language you can tell that there is a great respect and Team focus. Especially for the Memory care residents, who are so susceptible to undercurrents, this is vital to the calm flow of care they receive. Carol, Fabi, Islene, Joaner, Yvetta, Nosi, Karenia, Vicky and several others work very well together, and their residents benefit immensely from their Team Focus. The Nurses and CNA's are extremely attentive and work hard to keep their residents cared for and safe. Thank you GCV - for what you do....and most especially, how you do it.

I was pleased with how she was treated. I was particularly impressed with dealing with the social worker office who advised me of her insurance coverage. She received quality care during her 20 day visit. Dining for the guests is very nice. Many residents eat in their room but my friend chose to eat in the Bistro dining room. She made friends quickly and on severely occasions I had lunch or dinner myself there and was required as a guest to pay nominal fee but the servers told they couldn't accept a gratuity. The staff was always pleasant and patient with the guests.

Well, I just got out of a 10-day stay at this nursing home which I attended strictly for the…read morePhysical Therapy rehabilitation. It was much less that I had hoped for and even less for what I'd expected. In no particular order I will give details of the horrors you might expect. Keep in mind that for an older person with terminal issues this might have been much better, but I was probably the youngest in the facility and only needed P.T., not nursing. I had a multiple-occupancy room (read semi-private, two patients) that had a TV each but both TVs were controlled with the same coded remote. When I would turn mine off or on or changed the channel or volume level, his would change, too, and vice-versa. It had a bathroom much smaller that any Motel 6 I'd even been in. It had belt-sander quality toilet paper. And there was no shower... only a bi-weekly schedule to go down to the "spa" always with a nurse or assistant who did their best impression of Nurse Rachet (controlling the shower hose, freezing temps, dumping handfuls of shampoo on my hair, all while seated in one of their rolling PVC shower seats. I am not a xenophobe, but when all of the staff speaks loud Creole in your presence and only barely try to speak English when they address you, I find it disturbing and off-putting. The P.T. "gym" looked more like an adult kindergarten, including match-the-shape games. The silicone rubber bands they used for muscle-strengthening made me think that I was in Joe's Garage and Kindergarten. The staff seemed more interested in whistling to 80's tunes or talking about their next meal plans than focusing on the P.T. The entire facility reminded me of a stalog; it took the door code of the day to exit a door to the outside. This might be effective against dementia patients wandering off, but I was clearly with all of my senses and it would have been nice to sit for awhile outdoors listening to the quite sounds of traffic... It took the kitchen/nutrition staff 9 days to finally get my food orders correct. I make the majority of my meals fresh and raw. So instead of blindly opting in for the lemmings' fare of heated canned food, I spent entirely too much time getting them to make me salads and sandwiches. And why are we still wearing traditional hospital gowns? It made more sense back when most of our medicines were hypodermics in the buttocks, but they have got to go. They provide no protection, they never fit, and the ties get knotted up. My assigned doctor was on vacation when I was admitted and never returned during my 10-day visit. Their inter-departmental communications were horrible, with me often repeating the same set of information to many staff members who should have shared it. I hope this will guide you towards selecting a better nursing home/rehab experience than I had.

Her room was so dirty, it looked as if no one ever really cleaned the floors under her bed, or anywhere in the room. They blamed it on her never wanting to leave the room. The staff was downright nasty one day when we were waiting to be buzzed in and my granddaughter tried to open the door (by accident - she's three) and the alarm went off and the attendee was extremely nasty and rude about us "grabbing the handle". When my mom first got there they did field trips, some painting/coloring activities and other things she enjoyed and would participate. After they had a change in personnel all I would see is the people just parked and watching tv. You can tell by their FB posts that they hardly do anything. Management is HORRIBLE about returning calls and honestly it seems like they do not care about the residents at all - just the money. So sad!!!

My 91 year old Dad has been in independent living resident at The Palms for almost 3 years. He…read moremoved from Venice FL to be closer to family. He has been very happy with The Palms, most especially with the way they are dealing with the Corona Virus Pandemic. The administration and the entire staff have been proactive and exceptional. They explain everything clearly to their elderly population. They reassure their residents regularly. Fears and worries are allayed in an ongoing manner. The staff checks on each resident and makes sure everyone is in good health daily with temperature checks and health questions. Instead of dining room service, there is room/apartment service three times a day to keep people safe. Social distancing is monitored while giving all residents freedom throughout the facility and as well as the grounds. Though residents cannot take The Palms bus at this time to see to their personal shopping needs, the amazing staff is doing the shopping for their vulnerable residents. There are no visitors allowed at the current time in order to keep people safe. I speak with my Dad several times daily and feel confident that he is safe. A HUGE THANK YOU to the entire administration and staff at The Palms on Winkler in Fort Myers for keeping my Dad safe, healthy, and happy and for keeping his family worry free. Sincerely, Barbara Z.
