American Legion Restaurant and bar: hmmmm, a hangout for war veterans. Our friend recommend this place, so we thought why not?
Super weak aircon and dim lights. The furniture was mismatched: plastic chairs, woven chairs, faux leather booths and last year's Christmas decor still up. There were two elderly men at separate tables without any companions, keeping to themselves and fixated on the tv. The place was really quiet. The tv was set on the Fox action movie channel with the volume set very low. I can see this place as somewhere where people come to drown their sorrows. Kinda depressing, don't know if things liven up at night or during the weekends.
The older hostess/server was cranky and brusque. I didn't take too many pictures nor ask too many questions, lest she unleash her frustrations on me. The younger waitresses were more pleasant.
WE ORDERED:
- Tocino was tender but had a fishy aftertaste
- Shrimp creole has big meaty shrimp. They did use the "Holy Trinity" of Cajun cooking (onions, bell peppers and celery) and there was decent heat; but the seasonings tasted off, and the sauce tasted like it came from a can.
The large portions and reasonable prices might convince us to come back; but the vibe is definitely a deterrent. read more
