The vision for the Bull Run Warrior Retreat is to provide a place for wounded warriors to spend a weekend or a couple of weeks with their families in a healing, therapeutic environment. http://www.willingwarriors.org/aboutbullrunwarriorretreat The Retreat currently consists of a 11,000 square foot home situated on 44 acres in the historic and picturesque Virginia countryside in Prince William County. Warriors and their families will be invited to spend time at the retreat. The retreat property sits at the edge of the beautiful Bull Run Mountain Conservancy and Virginia's renown Hunt Country. Work is currently underway to complete renovations on the first house. Plans include expanding the capacity to serve wounded warriors by adding a couple of more houses. You can see the planned stages of the project here: http://www.willingwarriors.org/plans The Bull Run Warrior Retreat is in need of support to continue moving forward. It's an amazing project. I toured the site today. I am supporting their efforts and am actively working to educate others about the retreat and garner support. If the AMVETS George General C. Marshall Post #103 is going to sell dinners and advertise the menu…read morein the Herald-Standard newspaper then anyone should be able to patronize your organization. The ad did not say for members only. When I called the number listed in the ad to place my order on a Friday in February 2021, I was not told the entrance would be locked and the bartender who could clearly see me trying to open the door would not let me in. I suspect my skin color confused her as to why I was there trying to get the door open. After several tries, I stopped to read all those notices on the door thinking I must have made a mistake. When I saw the notice about members only or something, I thought you are kidding right? Well, she finally buzzed me in or maybe it was someone else who probably was checking me out on a security camera. They could clearly see I was not a member. I found the kitchen, paid for my order, and got out of there ASAP and will never return. AMETS could have saved me the trouble and the $10 I paid for my dinner if only the newspaper ad would have stated for "members only" or "not open to the general public." They clearly were not expecting me and obviously had a classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" moment when I was trying to open their locked door! The food was not all that bad but my experience left a bad impression of a place that is run by veterans. Strange that veterans in their uniforms showed up at my father's funeral to honor his military service in the army but would not let his daughter into their "members only" club to pick up a damn chicken dinner ordered over the phone. AMVETS still advertises in the Herald-Standard as open to the general public but they do not mention that their establishment is NOT open to just anyone like me. Maybe I should have face-timed them and saved myself all the trouble.
