THIS COMPANY IS NOT SATISFACTORY IN THEIR PERFORMANCE and if we had not done all the researching, diagnosing, and the main repair ourselves (what THEY were paid to do), we would have been taken for even more than the $317.50 that we paid this insufficiently stocked, poorly trained, and unprofessional outfit.
American Mobile RV Repair & Pressure Washing was prompt in returning our call and was available within one day of our call. The quotes for service were $75 service call, $75 hr. and no second service fee if they had to return to complete the job (no credit card fee or tax was mentioned nor was any diagnostic charge mentioned). The 4 of them (husband, wife, young child and a helper) arrived on time to the first appointment. Our 5th wheel RV had a non-functioning AC, broken flush pedal on the toilet, a non-cooling Frig, and a blown circuit breaker that a layperson could not repair. An assessment of the air conditioning and Frig were needed in order to determine what options were available for DIY repair, service repair or replacement. The blown circuit was repaired promptly. WE thoroughly researched the frig and toilet issue using online tutorials prior to this visit. The primary technician was informed of our attempt to repair the Frig, inspected the unit, used his equipment to determine what the issue might be and gave his opinion that a part replacement (did not have it on hand) 'might' solve the problem, also what our research had indicated prior to the visit. At the same time, the other technician examined the toilet inside, waved off the printed toilet manual diagram offered by us and came out stating the toilet flush pedal was fixed. After the repairmen left, during the first use, the pedal was back to the original unusable state - it did not spring back up after use. Regarding the air conditioner, at 63/65 years old, we sisters had not been up on the roof of the RV to remove the cover to the air conditioner to appraise what state it was in. The second technician went up to determine what the problem was and after 10 min was back on the ground informing us that 'it' was broken, what brand & model it was, and that we needed a new air conditioner... no appraisal as to the state of the air conditioner was given. We asked how much and were told $1500 including installation. The main technician checked the voltage on the air conditioner (later we found according to the manual online, voltage needed to be in the range of 10&16) and informed us that the voltage was 14. While they were completing their tasks, we determined that there was a new replacement air-conditioner online for less than $600 so we asked how much to install and were told $150. After the first visit, WE went up on the RV and DID REMOVE the cover from the air conditioner finding that the coils, fan, and condenser were completely caked with debris. After WE thoroughly cleaned the coils & condenser and removed a wasp nest from the fan, the air conditioner now works perfectly and soundlessly... better than it ever did prior to the cleaning.
The charge for this visit- $267.50 & receipt was emailed. We requested a breakdown of the charges and were told that it would be emailed when they were back at the office. They left after 1 1/2hrs onsite. We received an email a day or so later for $250 = $75 service call, $75 DIAGNOSIS FEE (wife claims we were told about the 'diagnostic fee' but neither of us ever heard about any diagnostic fee) $75 labor and $25 parts --- does not total $267.50. During their return visit, when questioned about the diagnostic fee & the unexplained $17.50 (they claimed they did not charge for the toilet repair on 2nd visit and they did have the necessary part and fixed it), the wife argued that she DID tell us about the required "Credit Card fee" $17.50 before we paid them originally and that we were also informed of the $75 'diagnosis' fee. later after researching the $17.50 we found that it is in fact the required STATE SALES TAX but, whether or not we were informed originally, it should have been reflected on the detailed invoice but was not. We also found a video on how to properly repair the flush pedal on the toilet & emailed it prior to the second visit (though the technician never looked at it). We ordered the correct Frig part and the main technician did install it properly during the 2nd visit of 30 min. for which they wanted to charge us $75 but we negotiated down to $50 with the 2nd technician complaining that two (all 4 showed up again) people came out to do this work and the owner stating that they will never return to our place again. In the end, WE had to know what questions to ask, lead the technician as to how to make repairs, and then DO what should have been done by the company we hired to do the job. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE WE DID. Hire a reputable, professional company that is prepared and equipped to do the job you hire them to do. read more
