Anyway, just my observation as someone who walked by it on the sidewalk once and definitely not the bass teacher with the essential oil diffuser (it's cedarwood oil). On a more serious (quarter) note: enrolling your kids here opens them to an extremely supportive, positive, driven community while at the same time exposes them to the highest caliber private & small group music instruction in Naperville.

Because of this we weren't looking to spend a super ton of money on a violin, just one better than her student one. The older gentleman, who was the main luthier, was really annoyed that we didn't make an appointment (we didn't know we needed one), didn't know the make of her violin, and said he had an 11am appt coming that we'd have to basically leave before. My daughter is new to violin but not string instruments so when she asked to see violins in our medium price range with a warm tone and a high resonance he said that would be impossible cause we weren't willing to spend a lot. This is obviously not true cause we have gone to other shops and found ones in our price range matching that description. We ended up buying a fiberglass bow that was pretty expensive but i still would never give them my business again. This store is very prissy and not nice to newcomers or people who aren't wanting to spend ton on a violin. Would not recommend

They know stringed instruments, and they know how to repair string instruments. I was there lately to help a student choose a new violin, and I was impressed with their knowledge of violins, bows, and cases for the violin. In re to repairs: they actually turned down a repair of an older violin that had been repaired a few times, because it looked too delicate, may cost more than the value of the violin, and referred my student to a second shop for another repair estimate. That's an unheard of level of honesty in this business. I would recommend this shop and I'm super picky. I generally drive into Park Ridge where many of the CSO musicians go for their repairs to MBecker, but I'd comfortable having something repaired here or buying a new item.

One of the guitars needed a jack repaired with a nut that had to be constantly tightened. I got back a guitar in the same state, only they had put a washer in there that didn't solve the problem at all. Not sure how one would conclude that fixed the problem. Then another guitar needed a set up. The action was crazy high and so I went to the manufacturer's setup specs, and realized they didn't follow it at all: there wasn't enough relief, the saddle heights were crazy high, and the nut had not been properly cut/adjusted. There's a certain amount of subjectivity to setups, but this is the worst one I have received in some 30 years. I did a better job on my own. Would not go there again.

His name was Luke Mallicore or something of his last name. I have a cleft pallet and he always sounded annoyed when I try to explain to him that I can't reach to certain high notes and he tells me not to do something with my mouth even though that's the only way for me to play my trombone. Yesterday, I went to Guitar Center to sell back some products that were still basically brand new…read moreand had only been used once. I understood that I was already past the return deadline and would only receive about 60% back through their buyback program, which I was willing to accept. However, the experience became extremely frustrating due to how I was treated by staff. I drove 40 minutes to the store yesterday only to be turned away because I didn't have my ID with me. So today, I made another 40-minute drive to try again, only to be turned away a second time because I arrived three minutes after the start of their "closing procedures." I was then told they are not allowed to process buybacks within an hour of closing, despite the store still being open. After spending nearly 2 hours and 40 minutes driving back and forth between both trips, all I walked away with was disappointment and frustration. The lack of communication, consistency, and customer service was extremely disappointing. Because of this experience, I will no longer be shopping at or doing business with Guitar Center. May I remind you gas is at $5 a fucking gallon.

The instructors are outstanding, with advanced degrees and music education training and the Suzuki method. We have been very happy with Ed Kreitman, the Director of the school, and our violin instructor, Ryan Caparella. Ryan has a flexible teaching style based on the needs of every child. He has pushed both of our children out of their comfort zones in healthy ways, but with empathy and understanding throughout every interaction. The needs of our two children could not be more different, and Ryan also developed a strong relationship with me and my husband to ensure an open dialogue about evolving needs as our kids have grown and matured. He was also very supportive as we made the decision after several years to discontinue instruction for our daughter as she pursued other interests. The school provides unique experiences for growth no matter where a child is in their musical journey. Children can take music improvisation classes early on, and as they become more experienced there are many opportunities for other unique performance experiences outside of private instruction, small group repertoire classes and orchestra.
