Update 3/14 - I wasn't going to engage further, but Robyn at PM proactively sent me an email explaining the miscommunication and sequence of events from their perspective. Included in her email was a refund of the charge even though she explained the original charge's legitimacy. I definitely appreciated that she went above and beyond researching my circumstance, looking up my account and processing my refund without me being the one to call them back. It showed me ownership and shared accountability in handling customer issues and maintaining customer relationships. Thank you PM... reestablishing trust is sometimes one step at a time. read more

My daughter has been playing the Violin for just under a year and this place is super close to where her lessons are so this is our go to for any minor needs. A couple months ago we brought her student violin because she had issues of her e string peg slipping. We dropped it off on a thursday they said they'd call us for an estimate on friday/monday and we could pick it up on tuesday. The guy we talked to ( tall gentleman with glasses) said whether they would replace the peg or just shave it down it would be under $50. We called friday and monday to ask about the estimate and they still had no number until we went in person on tuesday to find out they shaved all of the pegs down. Now instead of just the e string peg slipping all four pegs slip while tuning. The cost indeed was under $50 so we did not make a big thing out of it. Nevertheless we still frequent this place for basic needs like suzuki books. The staff is very nice and helpful but i wouldn't recommend getting an instrument serviced here. read more

I stopped in with a friend who got an instrument fixed here. They have an impressive array of instruments (I was particularly surprised at the amount and variety of ukeleles!) The staff member who assisted us was very friendly and knowledgeable and answered all the questions my friend came up with. I've been in a few times now and each time I have been impressed by their professionalism. They always seem to be in motion, from the multiple employees who are engaged with customers on the phones and in the store, to the employees in the back working on the instruments. The employees dress very businesslike and appropriately for a music store. Whenever I enter I'm greeted if someone is near the door, and when there is a line at the register the next employee who finishes what he is doing always goes down the line of people to ask if they've been helped yet. Whoever is paying these employees should be proud of them! I have also called on a few occasions to request specific items that I need, and while the person who answers may not immediately know the answer, he always asks a person who does and I know right away within a minute if they have what I'm looking for. This happened on one occasion when I called to ask for a specific music book. The person looked on the computer and said they have 2 copies left, and then someone else actually found it on the shelf for me and put it aside at the desk on hold for 24 hours. Another time I was looking for a particular violin rosin. They had it, but she didn't know if it was light or dark, and so she verified with someone else in a matter of seconds that it was dark. I'm so glad to have such professional reliable customer service at a local music store. There is always someone available on staff who has been able to answer my questions immediately. The prices are similar to what you would find at any other local music retailer and they have a good supply of the basics you would need on a daily basis. Great job PM Music! read more

After not so good experiences with a couple other vendors I tried (namely Quinlan & Fabish and Brookdale Music), I decided to do yet another Google search for "flute rental naperville il". I scrolled through the results and clicked randomly on one for PM Music Center...easily the best thing I could have done that day! First bonus...they are open from 10a-9p Mon - Thurs (and 10a - 5p Fri & Sat) - these are WAY better hours than the other vendors. For some reason a lot of music stores don't open up until later...like 11a or noon, and they tend to close around 7 or 8p. Second bonus...I call and a lady named Karen picks up the phone. Karen was VERY nice and friendly. She thoroughly explained the flute rental process to me and all about what would be included. She didn't rush the conversation nor make me feel pressured to use their store. She also explained that they had plenty flutes in stock, so they wouldn't need to backorder or get back to me when they had something (which is what Brookdale Music told me). Third bonus...I made it to the store approx 7:30p that evening. I was immediately greeted upon walking in. By the way - the visual appeal of the store is wonderful! It seems like everything in there is brand new (a huge step up from some other music stores I visited). I completed my flute rental, and had all the items my daughter would need to start band at her school the following week, within 15 mins! Fourth bonus...very reasonably priced! I obtained 3 months of used flute rental ($17/month for a used rental, and if you wanted to rent new it's $25/month) for $51. You do have to pre-pay the 3 months upfront. There are all types of perks with the rental contract including the first nine months of your rental payments going toward the purchase of a new instrument, etc. They also had all of the workbooks and music stand my daughter would need right there in the store at great prices. All in all, I walked away paying like $83 and had absolutely everything my daughter would need for band for the next 3 months. Fifth bonus...the repair shop is onsite. They will never send your instrument out somewhere else for repairs. Also they provide loaners while your instrument is being repaired. And all of this is included with that cheap rental price I mentioned above! Definitely pleasantly surprised with my experience here, and I will be utilizing PM Music Center for all of my music needs going forward! read more

This is a great place for instrument rental or purchase, instrument repair, sheet music, and all things for musicians. Their service is great, and everyone there knows their stuff! They have private lessons, and their teachers are experienced and great! They do a recital in the fall so the students can show what they have learned. My daughter has taken lessons from Anna S on the violin for many years at PM music. She has grown immensely while taking lessons from Anna. In high school, she was auditioned and was placed in Concert Strings her Freshman year and I really believe it is because of Anna's teachings and guidance. Also, the staff at PM is phenomenally knowledgeable, professional, and considerate. Even their waiting area is nicely furnished and clean. Not only did they help me find gifts for my three musician children, they also helped me when my car battery died in their parking lot. When I first started orchestra I knew that our school's designated company was ok, but not the best so I wondered whether PM Music could help me. Turns out they could. At their store it is wonderful, and the display is just SO eye catching you never want to look away. The workers never rush or overwhelmingly insist on anything and it just a wonderful experience. 2. After receiving my upright bass I walked over to the booklet area and noticed that all of the books are lined up in an amazingly organized fashion. I was able to find my books within seconds and had paid and was out the door quickly. I would recommend this music store to anyone in band or orchestra and anything in between. Both of my kids rented instruments with PM thru their local grade school, then bought professional instruments to start high school. PM has always been top notch. Jason and Harley are very knowledgeable and the service and warranty coverage is excellent. Patrick was super responsive online. Not only would it not be worth it to save a few bucks from some anonymous online seller, PM is actually cheaper or the same as the online prices I've seen. PM Music is the place to go when you need to upgrade your instrument. I just purchased our third professional level instrument (woodwind & brass) and I am 110% satisfied. They will work with you to get the instrument you want in store if they don't have it in stock. Additionally, you receive an upgraded manufacturer warranty for a year that allows you to take the instrument in for maintenance or repair such as a bell dent. The instrument and accessory prices (reeds, stands, etc.) are competitive with online prices. I've also had great experiences with the on-site repair for the professional instruments (maintenance, repair and cleaning). Just a great experience. Knowledgable, friendly and helpful staff. I have been renting instruments from PM Music for many years (four children) through our school rental program. I cannot say enough nice things about how easy they are to work with and how pleasant the office staff is. I accidently kept my auto pay feautre on (even after I returned the instruments) and they were terrific in notifying me and returning my payments. We have been their client for 7 years. Last year we baught the clarinet which came with a one year warranty. Two weeks ago my daughter told me she needed repairs. We were within the warrantly but my daughter kept forgetting to bring home the instrument, it had been concert after concert and life just got in the way. Finally, I was able to bring in the clarinet but decided i better call first since the warranty had just expired 7 days ago. DUMB, me you would think after 7 years and only being out of warranty 7 days they would take care of you - NO! Instead I was told to come in and pay for repairs or buy a new warranty.Very, very disappointing. I know a warranty had an expiration date for a reason, but honestly - 7 days out of warranty after 7 years as a client and you cant take care of the client! Client no more. read more

This place is great if you are a student starting off in band or orchestra. This store is a great place for anyone in Elementary school or in Middle school. However, if you are a high school student looking for advanced music or a higher quality instrument go somewhere else. Their sheet music supply is not that large for more advanced studies. Also, this place do not have good percussion equipment. As a percussionists I would choose to go somewhere else. Overall, this place is good if you are in band or orchestra in Elementary school or Middle school. read more

The person I spoke with, checked with the repair person and said that if I brought it in, he could look at it and maybe get it fixed that day. I was only in town for two days and wanted to get my French horn cleaned. The first music store I called would not clean it without first checking for repairs, and it would take 5 days. I am such a geeky band chick. I started playing the clarinet when I was 11, I'm now 21 going on 22. After 10 years I still to this day love picking up a new piece of music and buying new gadgets for my "musical downtime". PM Music is so adorable. Small store, but has so much. Prices are actually very reasonable considering it's almost Naperville. The staff is great. I took my guitar in once for some work that needed to be done and they explained everything and more. The process took maybe 2 days and it cost me like 25 bucks. Someone always greets you and is ready to help you. It feels like a nice community home for musically inclined people. Great place! Use yelp alot, first time I've contributed but felt strongly about this. Rented from this company at my child's school. Had numerous billing problems with the company sending bills out when I signed up for auto-pay (bit annoying when you have to call more than once on the same issue). Last straw was when, as always, I returned the instrument to the school at the end of the school year (as I have done previous times) and they continued to charge my card. Company claims they did not receive the instrument. Called to try and iron the situation out but the General Manager was quite rude stating why he should give a credit for the previous months even though I didn't even have the instrument. I'm reasonable and was open for compromise but this guy attitude was a bit smart-ass like. Just decided to dispute the charges and not deal directly with this company's poor customer service. Stay away and rent/buy elsewhere. read more
