Our old Genie garage door opener was working just fine, but I wanted a new one with a back up battery in case of a power outage. I came out to the garage to drive out to pick up something yesterday afternoon, and the garage door would only open about 3' before the opener gave up. It didn't take more than 10 seconds to see that one of the two springs on the sectional door was broken. That explained the sound we heard in the garage the night before - like something fell over or snapped - the dogs and I couldn't find it, so it couldn't have been "that bad". I got the 6' folding ladder and muscled the door up high enough to slide the ladder over and prop open the door so I could back the car out. When I got back, it was around 3, so I started calling garage door companies on Yelp. The one I used before isn't in the Yelp Top 10 list anymore and they didn't answer their phone anyway. I called the Top 3 in the list and leaving messages before I got to "American Quality Garage Doors" - they should have been at the #1 spot. They called back in less than 5 min and said they could either be there at 5pm that day or I'd have to wait 2 days until Friday. But, if they came that day at 5pm, there'd be no "after-hours / emergency charge" because I was calling at 3pm. I took the 5pm spot. About 10 min later (about 3:30), he called and told me "I can be there in 15 min - will that work?" Hell ya, that'd work great. He showed up, assessed the situation, pulled out the correct parts and tools, and completed the replacement / repair in less the 30 min. I scheduled a new opener installation with American Quality Garage Doors through the Yelp app, and they were able to get me in right away. Gilbert showed up during the time window we agreed on, and was great. He removed my old opener, installed the new one (making up for some previous-install negligence along the way), tightened up springs, and lubricated the whole system. My garage door crashed on Friday night (12 Feb 21). I called on Saturday, 13 Feb and spoke with Manuel. He was trying to leave to take his family to Monterrey, but he took time to speak with me and educate me. He told me Gilbert would be by on Monday (15 Feb / President's Day).
