Focusing on the Overland Park Recycling Extravaganza that took place yesterday with this review…read more 25 Stars to Jim Twigg for putting together such a great event!!! The traffic flow was good and smooth. It was amazing. One location took computers, TV's and electronics for a small fee. Another took shredding for a donation to animal rescue. Pull around the curve and donations were taken for fabric, yarn, and sewing items. Next stop, a new non-profit that takes shoes of all types for men, women and children and gives them away. They also take donations year round at their store Elite Feet in Hawthorne Plaza. ReStore and Goodwill were there. Lo and Behold Revolve was taking bicycles to refurbish and give to others who need transportation and their children. Yet another was taking medical equipment like wheelchairs and shower seats...to be sold at a very low price to those in need. Another was taking lawn mowers and equipment for use during community garden creating. It gets even better with someone taking books...all kinds of books and the profits from the sale of those will go to charity. Last but not least and these guys get 25 Stars, too. The Overland Park Police officers were there taking expired medications. Throwing these down the toilet is bad for our water system....don't do that. Save those and donate them during this event next year. They are destroyed properly when given to the officers. If you missed this event this year...you missed out. Watch the Overview for next year when you can make these donations and get stuff you don't want out of your house or apartment and either help others or help the environment. What a beautiful day and fantastic event this was....all thanks to the City of Overland Park and the volunteers that offered to help make it possible.

Since we are in the age of technology I tried to do my due diligence with the new feature available to renew online avoiding the hassle of driving here, waiting in line and having to take a picture on demand. WELL, something went wrong and it wasn't processed online and there is no way for me to "redo it" or update anything so here I am. I love the movie Zootopia and I see exactly what they mean with the reference to the sloths in their storyline. I know it was referring to the workers being slow, but it's actually just a slow and detailed process that could cost a lot legally if not processed correctly. Which explains why we all have to wait patiently, regardless if we want to or not. Another factor that makes the process longer than it should be could be due to being understaffed? Why does it seem like the things we need the most from license to registration you have to wait the longest to receive help? I really appreciate having digital options, but I really think we should focus on the base of the issue which would be creating a quicker in person process. The lady at the front desk was doing the job of 3 people at once. Despite the fact that she did everything seamlessly, we have to admit that she could probably help more if there was only one job to focus on and another person or perhaps two other people could help those on the computer and needing to drive so just one person can focus on everyone coming in the door every 30 seconds. Whew! This job isn't one for the weak and this type of work should be praised upon just like any essential worker from postal workers to nurses. It's just heartbreaking to see that we are spreading the people we need the most too thin. Sorry for the rant, but I clearly have plenty of time(: I just hope to see the day where places like this make life easier for everyone and something we look forward to instead of somewhere we avoid like the plague if we can!

I happen to go to this DMV and stood up in the line. My turn was an hour later, however the lady or the host was in front of the desk. Happy to check with me on the reason of my arrival. I explained her my problem and immediately she took me to a specific kiosk where I can just type in my vehicle number and get a registration done in two minutes this is an extremely good service where people are concentrate of your time and help you get your work done during the business hours because you're also working at the same time and probably took a lunch break or whatever..

The librarian was helpful and pleasant and of course I like their check out scanner that can take a stack of books and check them at one time. Some libraries do not have the newer scanner. They had a good selection of children's books, which is where I was at primarily. They have some activity tables for children as well. I also liked the family restroom for when a diaper needs to be changed. There is parking that is covered next to it.

It is as if they are trying to prove a point that libraries don't have to be boring or just a place for books, but truly a spot to spend time with your family and everyone can find something to enjoy. Built in 1897 as Kansas City's workhouse jail and later served as a storage facility, marine training center and an animal euthanasia center until being abandoned in 1972. With it's dark history, graffiti, collapsed roofs, dark stairwells, debris, and remnants of homelessness everywhere, my solo visit was slightly macabre and a bit scary not knowing if I was alone when turning each corner. I did run into two other explorers and one homeless person in my self guided tour of the darkside. There was talk about a decade ago of renovating the property into a venue for weddings and concerts but that failed to materialize. My advise to you is put on your big-boy pants (or girl) grab a friend and go explore an iconic architectural piece of history before it's too late.
