Since we are in the age of technology I tried to do my due diligence with the new feature available to renew online avoiding the hassle of driving here, waiting in line and having to take a picture on demand. WELL, something went wrong and it wasn't processed online and there is no way for me to "redo it" or update anything so here I am. I love the movie Zootopia and I see exactly what they mean with the reference to the sloths in their storyline. I know it was referring to the workers being slow, but it's actually just a slow and detailed process that could cost a lot legally if not processed correctly. Which explains why we all have to wait patiently, regardless if we want to or not. Another factor that makes the process longer than it should be could be due to being understaffed? Why does it seem like the things we need the most from license to registration you have to wait the longest to receive help? I really appreciate having digital options, but I really think we should focus on the base of the issue which would be creating a quicker in person process. The lady at the front desk was doing the job of 3 people at once. Despite the fact that she did everything seamlessly, we have to admit that she could probably help more if there was only one job to focus on and another person or perhaps two other people could help those on the computer and needing to drive so just one person can focus on everyone coming in the door every 30 seconds. Whew! This job isn't one for the weak and this type of work should be praised upon just like any essential worker from postal workers to nurses. It's just heartbreaking to see that we are spreading the people we need the most too thin. Sorry for the rant, but I clearly have plenty of time(: I just hope to see the day where places like this make life easier for everyone and something we look forward to instead of somewhere we avoid like the plague if we can! read more

I checked another dmv and they were able to assist me with a link to fill out the form as well as give me a number to wait for the paper work. If you have the opportunity to go to ANY other driver's license location, please save yourself the hassle and go there. Unfortunately the individuals working were unprofessional, unkind, and unhelpful. The staff "required" a birth certificate, though they list that as just one option (passports are also listed as a valid form of ID), and decided they did not want to help despite having all the required documents listed by the state. They also asked for three and then four proofs of address, which again is not the requirement. When I asked why they were asking for more than what was listed, they said they know what's best and if I didn't like it, I should go to another office. Last week I had made an appointment online since appts are required, but there were no openings for 2-1/2 weeks -- and my license would have expired before then. The entire staff from the front desk to the person handling the renewal was VERY helpful and courteous. Probably the easiest renewal I've EVER had. This is a overall review of several visits over several years. We moved here from CA where you would not wish the DMV on your worst enemy. Ten years ago, I originally had positive experiences with this office, establishing a KS DL & vehicle registration. When my teen came in 2 years ago for a driving permit, we had a mixed 3 hour experience because we failed to make an appointment beforehand. Today, my other teen came in for a driving permit. We arrived 40 minutes early for her appointment. Yes, make an appointment! We were told to come back closer to the appointment time. Afterwards, after passing the written exam, we waited, and are still waiting, forever for the "agent" to process her permit. In short, depending on the day, how busy, and above all, the agent you get, you really are at the mercy of the DMV gods. Pray to the gods that your visits are brief and infrequent. read more

I know, I can't believe I'm giving 4 stars to a government establishment but I needed to make my 4-5 year pilgrimage to the Department of Revenue to get my out-of-date license renewed. This is the first time I've ever tried this location. Every single DMV has the exact same hours as my current job. 2 weeks ago my wallet was stolen along with my ID. The soonest appointment I could get was last Wednesday, which meant I had to leave work early to get in. When I arrived, me and about 6 others who had also made appointments where met with locked doors and not a single worker in sight. I speak for me, and all the others who had made appointments when I say I was very frustrated. No one even bothered to inform any of us that they had closed. So not only did I leave work early, but it was a complete waste of my time. If I would have known this location would close with no warning I would've gone to the Olathe location which WAS open like advertised. Because of the holiday, I was informed I wouldn't be able to get any help till half way through the next week. Usually I'm not one to leave reviews, but I'm very unsatisfied with the lack of any service or communication. As someone with a very busy schedule, I do not have time to take off work for absolutely no reason. I have rescheduled my appointment to the Olathe location which has never been closed when I've scheduled an appointment. Maybe my first experience just happened to be very unpleasant, but I would not count on getting seen at this location, even with a scheduled appointment. Went to go get my license after waiting for so long. Website wouldn't let me make an appointment. So I tried to call which also didn't work just endless ringing. So my last option was a walk in which on the website it says walk ins are allowed but appointments get priority. I got there just to have the officer send us back because we didn't have an appointment. If you don't allow walk ins have it at the top of your website instead of saying you do allow them. read more

It was finally time for me to get a Kansas DL after living in CO for the past 8 years. As everyone dreads the DMV, I finally found the motivation and swung by last Thursday. Not sure if anything I did made a difference ie going after the lunch hour on a Thursday. It was also the last day of the month, but to me, that didn't seem to make a difference as they weren't very busy. When I first walked in, a gentleman behind the counter greeted me and was very polite when asking for all of my necessary documents for what I needed done. There were a handful of people ahead of me and I probably waited about 30 minutes before my number was called. Do not work at this office. I took this job during the pandemic while my regular job was shut down. I made it 4 months before I needed my sanity back and quit. I watched my manager tell a woman if she did not get DUI's she would not have problems, the woman ran out in tears. I have also watched her break rules for native Americans and not other races. I was told to be fake and that I was not allowed to talk to co workers. Most of the people that work there are snakes that stab you in the back for fun. My breaking point came when I contracted coronia virus. I was told you will be paid, week letter I was told you need a doctors note and test results, I took a at home test and all 4 family members were sick and also tested positive. I returned to work 2 weeks later and was written up and my manager told me I was lying about it all. After a few choice words I told her where she could stick this job. FYI I was not allowed by the state to file a complaint. It worked out and now I am back to teaching. In conclusion avoid the mission location, I would rather beg for money on a corner then ever work there again. read more

Love the QLess text to get in line, despite how inaccurate it seems to be. That initial 90 minute wait can easily turn into 2 hours. However, the convenience is wonderful. However, the service at the counter is erratic, at best. My first visit earlier in the year was a breeze and took less than 5 minutes. However, my second visit to replace a stolen license was not. It took over 25 minutes, due to poor service by multiple employees. :( My first visit would have been 4 stars, and the second was 1 star at BEST, so it averages to 2 stars. Good luck. Holy crap, this place sucks. First, what used to be a somewhat ok system, where you could get in queue online, doesn't still exist. At least it was non-functional when I had to renew my license. Additionally, the info online is not up-to-date. These days, if you want to get a compliant ID that you will be able to use to board an airplane, you have to show not only a passport or birth certificate, but a non-laminated social security card AND you must have some method of proving you live where you say you do such as car registration. If you don't have this when you arrive, you will have to wait in line twice...once to be told you don't have what you need and then a second time to get your assigned number that determines where in a very long queue of frustrated Kansans you will be. When I was there, the line to get your assigned number was out the door and I was the unfortunate buffoon who had to wait in line twice because I did not know I had to prove where I live since this is a new requirement since my last license renewal. I did know about the other stuff, just not that I had to have proof of my address. So take heed and bring everything you need so you won't have the extra frustration of having to worm your way through the line twice. Once you get through the line, you just wait and wait (and wait some more) until your number finally shows up on their screen...once it does, you'll have about ten minutes of waiting left. Unfortunately, they won't give you any approximation of how much time it will take and they no longer have system notifications that come via text...or at least it was not available during this last visit. Long story short...I did get my new license, but it was not without frustration and a whole lot of wasted time. This was the first time I have renewed a license here where it took this long and seemed so ridiculously unorganized. What a joke!!! Today was my 3rd attempt at getting my drivers license since I moved here from CO in July. And 3 times now I have been turned down for my license because they keep saying that they dont accept certified copies of my documents, even though they have signs all over the place and paperwork saying they do. I mean how many pieces of info does it take?! I've brought in my CO license, new and old ss cards, 2 proofs of residency, marriage license and birth certificate. The only other thing I can think of giving is a DNA sample to prove who I am. Needless to say I'm sick of the bullshit and I wont be trying to renew here again. Not too impressed with a government office which can't even manage to put their address on their building whatsoever. This office has been here for more than 10 years I believe also. While there were about 7 staff members sitting around at front desk joking around, they provided hap hazard counsel at best. The app to assist with line wait was helpful but for some reason it took me up to the time to be waited on within 4 mins n then sent me a text that it would be 22 mins. I was still called on schedule within a few minutes but the system kept texting me (5 Xs) that my # was being called after I'd finished my business and was down the street. When I brought up with the staff member he just said the system had been "screwed up for a long time" n didn't seem to care. The overall office experience was unprofessional and made Kansas look as backwards as many judge it to be outside the Midwest. read more

Uh maybe my rosy outlook of this DMV is shaded with memories of my county's DMV (read Wyandotte County) but I love it here. The building is well lit, there are plenty of seats, the employees seem happy and friendly. I really have no complaints. I came here for the first time because the line at my local office was out of the door and a friend mentioned that he had already been standing there for 1.5 hrs.. Literally, people were standing outside of the building because there is only a few chairs and mostly standing room inside. So I came here. BEST.DECISION.EVAH!!! I never turned back. Since then, this has been my DMV of choice. You can check in by phone, text or online and give your cell number. You'll get texts to let you know where you're at in line. It's almost like the Disney FastPass of DMVs!! That option isn't available everywhere. Also, back to the employees, I watched one help a person walk through using the kiosk (also something that WyCo doesn't have) and answer the phone (something that WyCo has but I've never actually witness them answer) and do both with a smile. My goodness! They are even quick workers. I've never spent more than an hr here. I never spent less than an hr and a half at my local one. The only thing else I could want is someone to come out with complimentary beverages and/or snacks...maybe some live entertainment. Wait, my love of people watching takes care of the entertainment so yeah snacks and beverages would suffice. I mean this location makes me drive out of my way to come here because I know my experience will be tons better than my local office. That's sad but I love it more. I heart you, Mission DMV!!! Registered on their stupid make an appointment process to find out that a license renewal wasn't actually what we needed to register for, even though we were here to renew my daughter's permit. Dumb me for not knowing that a renewal wasn't actually a renewal but a retest. Came in yesterday to get in line and was told they had a 2 hour wait. Arrived at testing center before 7 am today to find a line 200 people deep standing outside. Still not inside as of 7:15. How is it that the county has figured out a way to let people get in line and receive a text that is not only efficient and works to pay their taxes and the state with its bloated structure still runs like it's the 1980s. It gets old wasting days and hours to do something that shouldn't be this hard. There is a reason you keep getting crappy reviews. I went to get my drivers license today and was absolutely amazed at the pleasant experience I had. The key to the great experience was going to jocogov.org and reserving my spot in line before I left the house. When I arrived, I was greeted by a pleasant employee who looked up my confirmation number and gave me a ticket with my number in a special line. I was surrounded by about 50 people waiting their turn and was immediately called up. The woman who processed my new license was friendly and efficient. After a total of 15 minutes, I was done and walked past all those same people looking miserable and bored in line. Another important tip is arriving with the correct documents like your old drivers license, a bill with your name and address, a passport (if you have one) and social security card. Arriving prepared was the difference between an hour (or more) of misery and an enjoyable 15 minute errand checked off my to do list. read more

Awful. They sent my vehicle registration in the mail and said I should think ahead because paying in person will result in an additional $5 renewal fee. To avoid the fee they say to go online or mail it in. However, if you go online and want to use a credit card they will charge you more than $7 in fees. Complete crap. They have people that help you when you walk in and a touchscreen to check in. I have been there twice and didn't have to wait at all. You have to be kidding me. I took the time to check in online and followed every instruction on the renewal notice. I get to the front desk and the kid was looking for reasons to turn me away. Luckily I brought back ups for everything (mail proof of address has to be less than 5 months old - learned that here). I was given a number like everyone else and sat for a couple of hours. When my number got close I watched the screen closely. When it skipped my number and went 10 or so past it I went to the front desk to ask if that's common. The girl this time said my number had been called and I was absent. She reminded me that they told me to listen carefully for my number. She would not accept any explanation as her belief was infallible. She offered to put me at the back of the line and I've now been here for 4 hours. And the best part is that there's no recourse like a private business. Try to find somewhere to report or complain - I dare you. UPDATE - I will admit that once past the line, the people actually helping you are very fast and efficient. So they earned their 1 star. read more
