I cannot emphasize enough how horrible this firm is. If you are considering using them PLEASE DO NOT if you value your time, money and well-being. To say they are negligent is an understatement. I am a single woman and business-owner and they failed to communicate so many critical deadlines, items needed and what I had to do on my end, it ended up costing me thousands of dollars. They never included my quarterly payments and several key documents that helped to off-set what I owed to the IRS. This is the second year in a row they did this. They expect us as lay-people to be mind-readers and experts when that is what we pay them for. They made so many glaring mistakes its amazing to me they stay in business. Sadly, I had the same experience as so many others which is reflected by the reviews. This guy talks a good talk, but when it comes to getting a return done correctly and in a timely fashion it isn't going to happen. Two years in a row I have had my information to them in June (yes, we needed extensions) but my tax returns haven't been done until the last minute and both now seem to have been complete and total disasters. I have all my correspondence logged and Tom began to accuse me of not answering phone calls or communicating with them. Not true. I mentioned that I had logs of all my correspondence begging for the return to be completed in a timely fashion and not waiting until literally minutes before it was due to be filed, thus not providing me any time to review it. I have all my correspondence requesting over and over to find out what was missing so they could complete the return. Never got a response. Plus, with what they completed, and without any explanation, my tax rate looks to be around 60%. Something has to be wrong. When I phoned to try to figure it out he called me a liar, told me what a horrible customer I was and that he had sent letters that I had never received. It was really creepy. Prior to having them as my accountants I had been working with the same accountant for over 40 years! He was looking to retire so I made the change. Really a bad move. Be careful here, please and consider another firm. I should have looked at the reviews on Yelp and not just Google. Not sure how they managed to get those Google reviews as it sure isn't what I am seeing here which is much more representative. Run, don't walk. read more

Here's the short version: use a legitimate CPA with responsible accounting practices, especially if you have a corporation. I'm sure some E.A.s are great, but the worst tax experiences we've had were the two E.A.s we have used, including A.S. We started with Accountable Solutions in 2006 at our friends' recommendation. In 2007 we started a new corporation. They filed our first return in 2008 (WRONG: we needed a short year return 2007). On the 2008 FTB return they said we owed $336 in taxes (WRONG: minimum tax for corporations is $800). They filed an 1120S (S-corp return) with the WRONG EIN, WITHOUT filing a Form 2553 (S-corp election). I of course assumed a 2553 was filed since they filed an S-corp return. Turns out EVERY return for this corporation since has been rejected by the IRS. We left A.S. in 2012 because they would not respond to IRS or FTB notices we kept getting based on their mistakes. Only years later would we would learn how bad it was. Since EVERY return filed for the corporation has been rejected by the IRS because an S-corp election was never filed, with IRS late filing penalties of $1560 + 3%/yr int. x 8 yrs, and we now have to request a private letter ruling from the IRS which will cost at least $10,000 to the IRS and thousands more in CPA and/or attorney fees. Accountable Solutions's numerous errors and lack of responsiveness to the initial IRS notices is now costing us tens of thousands of dollars. Of course human error happens, and we get that. But with something as important as taxes (especially in California where the FTB is BRUTAL about suspending corporations, assessing massive penalties, garnishing wages, levying funds from your bank accounts, etc.), tax professionals HAVE to plan for human fallibility by putting redundant systems in place to catch errors (checklists, multiple levels of oversight, etc.). That's is what legitimate CPA firms do: bookkeepers do data entry, a CPA prepares draft returns, a partner reviews them, and there are questions and clarifications at each stage, reducing drastically the chances that some horrible oversight will happen, throwing your life into an IRS/FTB hell from which it could literally take years to dig yourself out. (We should know!) We're happy with our new CPA firm (Lavine Lofgren Morris and Engelberg), and we're on the path to taking care of the major mess Accountable Solutions landed us in. Accountable Solutions is amazing at marketing, networking, promising, and collecting (fees). If only their follow through and quality of work were half as good. read more

Tom and Joe have done my taxes (complicated business owner and military spouse) for years. They have also helped me with several complex IRS issues including double income counting. They've done an excellent job helping me minimize my tax burden through S corp formation and regular planning. Joe is always quick to answer and help with my tax questions or letters from the IRS. I strongly recommend them for at-home business owners. They've also done my state tax returns during all our military moves (NC, Indiana, PA, Minnesota) and we've never had any issues! read more

I absolutely hate writing bad reviews, but If I can save someone the headache that we had to go through dealing with Tom and this company I'm glad to. We have 3 companies, a home business and personal returns that we had them work on and in the beginning they were great sales people to get us in the door, but once we went into tax prep they were really hard to get a hold of and never returned emails or phone calls. I came to find out that they aren't registered CPA's and we really took a hit hiring them. Please hire a proper CPA that knows what they're doing and who cares about acting professional and returning calls and emails. I haven't dealt with them for over 2 years, but I had to call into their office today (because they never returned my emails) and they were completely rude over the phone and told me that they couldn't give me an ETA on some old docs that I was trying to retrieve. I was compelled to write this review to save others the year of clean up that we had to do with our taxes. Cheap tax work can be the most expensive hire... Us business owners are not tax pros, that's why we pay professionals to help us out with this, but imagine going forward with people for years that are doing your taxes wrong and then you have to clean up all the mess. read more

I have used accountable solutions since 2003! I made the mistake of going somewhere else in 2004. I ended up in trouble, with an audit, and that accountant not only wouldn't back me, he didn't even call me back! I called Tom at accountable solutions for help and he cleaned up the mess the other accountant did! I promised him I was never going anywhere else! I was referred by a friend that swore Tom was the man! I have a first year full Corp and I expected more than a consultation that he didn't remember, and an email stating my taxes were done and I owed them $995. I reviewed my taxes and found they had filed it as a S Corp, when I have a full C, and because the deadline was in a day or two, Tom was basically unreachable. After a lot of pestering the reply was, I had told Tom I wanted to convert. I explained I never said that, and I was terrified about being late my first year. They said via email they fixed it and I asked if anything has changed (since originally I owed nothing) and they said no. 8 months later I get a notice that I owe for 2015, and I request a copy of my return from Toms office, suddenly I get a new copy with instructions stating I did owe. Super frustrating. If you just want someone to process paper and never talk to you, and leave you guessing, Toms the guy. read more

This was my first tax season working with Tom and his team. Even though I live nearby, everything was completed virtually for both my business and personal return. I submitted some documents last minute, but they still got everything done under the wire without the need to file an extension. Tom got me $29,000 back, which we applied to 2017 taxes. I feel that I finally have an accountant who understands my business and maximizes my deductions. I've already recommended accountable solutions to other people in my field. I'm looking forward to Tom's audit of my previous two years of returns. By the way, my previous accountant was under the impression that nobody makes money with network marketing. I was at first very pleased with their services, then in 2016, something changed. They were extremely unresponsive, did not return calls or emails, and often gave me conflicting information. It was quite obvious I was getting rote answers (when I finally did get answers) and they had no clue who I actually was or anything about my taxes individually. My filing was not only late, but incorrect, and cost me thousands. I redid them with the help of a new accountant and at least got a couple thousand back. Tom Bass is rude, unprofessional and worst of all, does not properly prepare taxes. I drove an hour and a half to meet with him. We sat for an hour and I explained exactly what I was looking for and what I needed. He assured me over and over that he had the best interest of his clients at heart. I clearly stated that I wanted him to be the person to work on my taxes and not be passed off to anyone else in the company. He assured me that he would handle it all personally. I also made clear that I needed my taxes completely done and filed by a certain date because I would be headed out of town. Once again, he assured me he would take care of it. And he insisted on full payment up front. That should have been a red flag. Weeks go by without a word. I leave him messages and emails to check in and see where everything stands. I never once received a response. One week before the date we agreed to, I call his office yet again and am again ignored. I call again and again. Finally I get an email back from someone named Joe who said he was doing my taxes. Not what Tom and I agreed to! 2 days later I get the return. In going through it, I find quite a few errors and omissions. I call the office and ask to speak with Tom Bass. After being put on hold for 45 minutes, he finally gets on the phone and is extremely nasty and demeaning to me. He tells me if I have questions, I should take them up with Joe. When I remind him that we agreed that he would personally prepare my taxes and that Joe was making mistakes, he became extremely abusive. I go back to Joe and point out the issues I find. He agrees to amend the return. When I get it back, I notice that one thing is fixed but the rest is still wrong. Has to be amended yet again. And it is STILL not done right and I will be losing money. It ends up getting filed because I am out of time. Weeks later I get a letter from the IRS. Apparently there are all kinds of issues with my return - which I have never had before - and they all stem from my taxes being figured out incorrectly. I called Tom and left a message. No response. I email him, no response. I called again and again and finally after another long hold get him on the phone. He comes out swinging and is horribly rude and verbally abusive. These are mistakes HIS office made. And that I brought to their attention. And now I am in trouble with the IRS!!! They simply just take your money. They are NOT knowledgeable on taxes and don't know what they are doing AT ALL. In the end, they cost me thousands of dollars. Do yourself a favor and NEVER EVER EVER use this company. They will create a world of pain for you taking years to repair. read more
