The Courtyard Evansville East does a great job at meeting that for its location. The hotel is located approximately 5 miles from downtown Evansville - about a 10 minute drive without any major delays. It's located a bit off the freeway next to a few other hotels so it's pretty quiet. Parking is free and relatively plentiful (as long as they're not hosting a pyramid scheme sales pitch - which has happened twice over the last few weeks). The lobby is comfortable and fairly modern, with a small pantry area, a cafe/bar, and plenty of seating and tables. There's also a fire pit outside. Laundry room and gym round out the key amenities that I saw (as well as a pool). Front desk staff is usually courteous and efficient. The rooms are basic, but comfortable. Size is decent as well, enough for 2 people but probably not much more than that. Lighting is a bit dark, but that's the nature of the hotel. Bath amenities is basic, and they don't have an option to decline housekeeping for points which is a huge pain. Also, no bottled water in the room makes me sad - but there is a fridge, coffee, and tea.

The drinks were average--just regular mixed drinks and beer. Not a craft cocktail kinda place. Bartenders were nice. There is a rooftop/upstairs lounge that's supposed to be a different vibe, but we didn't get to check it out because of a private comedy show going on the night we visited. No cover and no charge to play games. And each game has a drink holder attached! Some people had set up a private board game night with their friends. This seems like a common space where people are encouraged to hang out and relax. There is food from a "ghost kitchen," or a kitchen without brick and mortar.
