0/10, would never repeat. If I could give zero stars I would. I paid for a 12 class package for my yellow Labrador. I trended the first group training session which consisted of exercises of slamming a door on your dog's head to keep them from trying to run through as well as using your knee to keep your dog from jumping up on you when they see you. During the session as we were waiting for an opportunity to practice slamming our dog's head in a door, the owner Amy Ammon singled me out (from pop a line of 15 people), approached me and in one of the most condescending interactions I've ever had with another human being berated me and said, "no one is going to do this for you." Yes, Amy. I'm fat and when I take my dog for a walk (or training), I generally don't wear a business suit or even Lulu Lemon athleisure. I'm sorry if my comportment is detestable for you. But you clearly need professional psychological help and have exactly zero business running an animal training facility. Needless to say I did not return for any addition sessions. When I asked for a refund they refused to give me even a prorated refund citing that I was clearly an unfit pet owner. Please for the sake of humanity, the universe, and your pet's, NEVER patronize this establishment. read more

I have been training my dogs with Amy, Amiable dog training for many years now. I love the concepts, training guidance and support given during each lesson whether it be group, private or even zoom, I have always learned something new and had great success with my breeds from Weimaraner, Chesse's and now Bouvier de Flandres X 3 now. I last trained this past summer and continue to use email and text for advice and guidance. Amy will help you get the best success from your dog according to their demeanor, behaviors and training needs. Treats can be used however, it's the trainer's choice and not necessary. What I love is that the dogs are trained with positive praise and reinforcement rather than treats if desired. They learn to respond to your voice and reward of attention rather than being tied to a bag of treats. Corrective collars are used when recommended but not required and not cruel or used for punishment. They are just that. Corrective, a reminder and help with communication. Amy explains and instructs on behaviors and rationale behind the dogs behavior which help you understand your dogs motives and needs more. She really spends individual time with real time feedback to clients. During each class, you will be working with your dog along side others the entire time with short instructions/demonstrations from Amy which means you get more real time working with your pup rather than listening to lengthy instructions and little time to work. I've really enjoyed the classes and have had great results. We tend to take hour dogs with us on many occasions, out to dinner, camping, parks, events and hotels and get much attention from others on how well behaved and comfortable the dogs are in their environment. Kids and adults alike may approach them as well as other dogs, even crabby ones on occasion and they are nonreactive and friendly. I will continue to train every year to keep the dogs engaged! I highly recommend amiable dog training to beginners and advanced as well. I also recommend for a consult for specific behaviors and wellness. I wanted to socialize and train my one year old Dutch shepherd rescue pup and was referred to Amy as she supposedly specializes in training shepherds. Shepherds love to bark and are very vocal that was my main focus for the training. The first 3 out of 4 classes went well. Amy asked us to come early to the last class to meet an aggressive golden retriever she had been training. When we got there my dog was excited and barking. Literally two minutes after arriving Amy grabbed the leash from me pulled my dog over to her and close fist punched my dog twice in the shoulder. What kind of trainer needs to use violence and physical force because a dog is barking???? 10 out of 10 do NOT recommend Amy unless of course you hit and/or allow others to hit your dog. My dog loves other dogs. She is not and was not aggressive. She did not deserve to be punched. Amy's "firm" approach crossed the line to aggressive and abusive behavior. read more

Good dog! I've taken numerous classes with several dogs over the years at Amiable and can't say kind enough words about their methodology. Their staff is super friendly and always happy to answer stupid questions. Classes are done in a group setting and it's a great way to socialize your dog with others. read more

When I first heard about an online dog class I was pretty skeptical. I thought how on earth is this going to work? In the short three week session I was apart of we covered over a dozen topics from walking nicely on a leash, social skills, establishing that my command is priority and more! Pros: * Attending the class from my living room couch! * Having the ability to rewatch the videos we take while training helps improve technique * Watching other peoples videos to gain additional training ideas * The meetings are recorded allowing us to listen again * When posting videos I would receive a response from Amy the same day with tips on what I was doing well or what I could still work on. Cons: * Personal problem - sometimes I'm not motivated to train if I do not have to go to a physical class location (but on the calls each week I did feel obligated to share what I have worked on - which helped me train throughout the week!). read more

I have worked with Amy in the past with several of my dogs. She is one of the best dog trainers I have had the pleasure of learning from. When I got a new puppy and he proved very difficult to house break, I reached out to Amy in Hawaii. She e-mailed me different methods to try. When one method failed she suggested another. Her help was invaluable. Across the miles, she showed she really cares. I just finished her on-line "Best Dog Ever" training class. It gave me motivation to train, while it was icy and bitter cold here in WI. So I did some training in the garage. Would prefer to do a class like this in better WI weather, but the motivational push was just what was needed. Also, talking directly to Amy helped tweak the techniques. read more

I have had my two dogs with Amy in both private and group lessons and she is wonderful. I saw improvement with my two pups immediately and she does an excellent job in training both "human" and four legged students. She also has offered free group online help when she is back in Hawaii for all past and present clients, which has proven to be valuable help. You are able to hear what other clients are dealing with with their pups and how you're not alone in a lot of issues! Amy has you post videos of your dogs behavior and the training techniques that she recommends you use, and has live chat sessions that I highly recommend she continue to do. I rescued my dog a few years back and have taken other classes to deal with some of his behavioral issues, including pulling on the leash and reactivity towards other dogs. I started with a private lesson and then joined the basics class. The skills were learned completely transformed the relationship between me and my dog. He responded so well and I feel like I learned the tools to continue with his growth. We are able to do so much together now and our walks are super enjoyable. Alot of bad with the good. There are a few good things about how Amy sets up her classes: classes are outside, good socialization for the dog, and small, easily accesible groups. But I also thought there were a lot of bad things too, enough bad for me to quit 2 weeks into the class. Alot of the class is based on using correctional tools (prong collars, specific length leashes) to enforce corrections. I personally don't want to use force and punishments to train my dog. I don't want to jerk him around and potentially harm his neck ( my pup is TINY, my vet told me to never use a regular collar, let alone a prong collar!!), I don't want to hit him. I don't want to spray the bitter apple into his face. These are a few of the techniques that she uses that I don't agree with and don't believe work to forge a bond between you and your dog. If you don't mind using force to train a dog, Amiable dog training is for you. If you would rather use positive reenforcement to train, I would look elsewhere. read more
