I needed to find a pet sitter for my cat Simba since he's diabetic, so I needed someone who's comfortable with injecting insulin and knowing how to do it while I'm not home and my friends and family have no idea on how to do it. WYWO has so many people trained on how to give insulin and they even trained people on how to do it with my cat Simba and I got a couple of free visits for it and I thought that was awesome! Makes me more comfortable leaving him with pet sitters. My cat Simba loves when they come over and see him and they do everything I request them to do. I love seeing his pictures and updates! Soon after, we booked the time slots when we wanted our kitty to be visited. Their app is very easy to use. This was the first time we were away from our cat since we adopted her back in October and wanted to make sure she would be fine, which is why we picked WYWO. The staff is super responsive, and after each pet sitting visit you get a report, a handful of pet pics, plus they create a hashtag so you can follow your pet on Instagram and Facebook while away. Their service is top notch and you can tell they enjoy checking in on your fur babies. Next time we travel, we'll plan to book their services again. I can't say enough about how much I love WYWO. They have been extremely reliable and have provided excellent care for my pets! Leo, my dog, is the more frequent client - he stays there many weekends when I have to be out of town. I know from the frequent pictures posted that he has a great time playing and lounging, and always comes home very worn out and ready to relax. He is also always very excited to be dropped off there - pulling and wagging as we walk up to the door! I think Leo would give them two paws up! I have only used the cat care in my home once (I'm not usually gone more than a night), but I recently had a four night work trip, and Pearl, my cat also had a great experience! The person (sorry, not sure who :) ) stayed and played with her every day and gave lots of snuggles. The person even texted me once (prefacing NOT EMERGENCY) to see if she could water my houseplants. Above and beyond service! Finally, one time a few months ago, I hit a travel snag and was unable to get to them before closing on Sunday to pick up my dog. Not only were they quickly responsive to my text, but they kept him over night at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. Here is my point of view on what I've used from WYWO: I have just started using WYWO, today being the 4th weekly visit. My girl is a bit anxious and I hoped a day with the dogs would help. She wags her tail and runs in every week. Asked for recommendations via Facebook, many people suggested WYWO instead of Central or Bay View bark. I never head of it, but the owner commented there was an opening. I jumped on it to check it out. Scheduled and in home visit within days and Maebe was there the following Wednesday. Convenient online payment access. VERY flexible - I've only asked to swap days so far which was not a problem. I did give about a week's notice. Text seems to be the preferred communication method - and everything is responded to typically quicker than my friends would! :) Location: In a very easy to access Bay View location, but segregated on its own so no neighbors should have a issues with barking. The most I see of the house with the first office room and down the hall. Theninto the yard, but just through the covered fence. I want to schedule a visit to check the place out - but they post non-stop on Instagram and you can see your dog continuously! It's great. What I look forward to: If needed, the flexibility and convenience others have talked about, my dog being happy, seeing people enjoy taking care of the dogs! Last year I was looking for a place to leave my 6 month old puppy while I went on vacation for a week. WYWO appealed to me not just because of the positive Yelp reviews (which, in retrospect are mostly from one or two off reviewers) but mostly b/c of the personal service that was promised and knowing that my puppy would not be left alone overnight, which most other boarding places do. Tiffany came out to meet me at my house (in retrospect, I should have insisted on going there so I could see the place first, but at the time I didn't think it was weird that she wanted to come to my place instead of vice versa, I was just happy to not have to drive across town). She was awesome and so friendly and really seemed to care about my puppy. She offered me a free 1/2 day trial run which I gladly accepted. Tiffany was not there the day I tried out the service, so maybe it's different if it's her watching your pet versus her boyfriend, but he answered the door in his pajamas with a toothbrush in his mouth. But whatever, I appreciate comfort and oral hygiene so I ignored the lack of professionalism. What struck me then was what a mess the house was, not that I was allowed in or given a tour, but what I could see was a complete disaster. I wrote it off telling myself that if you are in the pet sitting business of course your place isn't going to be pristine. I have one dog and it's hard enough to keep it clean with just her. But I felt really uneasy as I drove away. I called a friend, worried and unsure. He assured me my puppy would be fine, that she doesn't care whether the place she's playing looks like a Pottery Barn catalog or the set of Roseanne; that she'd be happy just to get to play with the other dogs. But still, I worried. When I picked my puppy up a few hours later Tiffany was still not there. The boyfriend met me at the side door and when I asked if my puppy had fun and got along with the other dogs he said, "well, we have a terrier that's a bit aggressive." He offered me nothing else so I scooped up my puppy and made for the car. Immediately upon picking her up I noticed that she reeked - not like other dogs (I'm used to the smells of doggy daycare) but like...air freshener. It was so strong that there is no way she would have just picked up this scent just by being in a Glade-infused house, it must have been sprayed directly on her (no proof of this of course, but you should've smelled her). When we got home she headed straight for her kennel and curled up way in the back and wouldn't come out. I don't know what happened there that day, but I know it wasn't good. The most striking thing was that Tiffany never called to follow up with me and ask me how it went. I imagine when she got home her boyfriend told her how it went and she knew there would be no reason to expect my business. This was a year ago and I am still racked with guilt about ignoring my gut and leaving my puppy there. I know that she has long since forgotten about it (oh to be a dog!) but I haven't. If you're looking for daycare, I can't recommend Central Bark enough. They also provide pick up / drop off services and are out of this world awesome. If you are looking for overnight boarding with someone on site overnight, I'd suggest Dog Tired Daycare which doesn't use kennels and has webcams for checking in. read more

Being a first-time pup owner I wasn't quite sure where to take my new little lab during the holidays. We were looking for a pet-sitter that would host a small number of animals within their own house and we stumbled across While You Were Out on Yelp and decided to set up a meeting. Tiffany of WYWO Pets responded to my inquiry right away and set up a time to do a little "meet and greet" with us and our dog. I have never used a pet-sitter organization before, so I was slightly wary of what to expect, but Tiffany's laid back attitude and straightforward responses to questions put me at ease. We dropped the pup off at WYWO on December 23 and were able to pick her up on Christmas Day so she could spend time with her family (which is huge since most kennels are closed that day). Throughout our dog's visit we received text message and facebook updates and photos of how her little visit was going. We were also incredibly pleased that WYWO was able to give our dog some medicine and take additional care of her since she had been spade just a week and a half prior to the visit. When we brought our little girl home on Christmas Day she was exhausted from all of the playing, but she was up and at it the next day. I'm sure she was a little disappointed to wake up without all of her new friends around. I would definitely recommend using Tiffany and WYWO pet team for any pet-sitting needs. Words cannot describe how awesome Tiffany and her staff at WYWO are, but I will try. The amount of care and love they all have for my animals is without question. They have boarded my dogs and cats while we've been out of town. Knowing they are in good hands getting plenty of attention and exercise while I am away put's my mind at ease and it's one less worry I have when I am gone for extended periods of time. One of the reasons why I first chose WYWO is their commitment to the animal community in the Milwaukee area. They give both time and money to local animal rescue groups. That is just the icing on the cake for choosing them to take care of my loved ones. I have other friends using their service. Some of them have high need animals that require special diets and drug administration. Knowing the staff is experienced and willing to handle these situations is also helpful to know. read more

I was initially drawn to WYWO for three reasons: 1) It was immediately apparent to me that Tiffany understands dog behavior and needs by the fact that she first requires an in-home consult. I have three dogs with three very distinct personalities, all of which immediately change when in a new, strange place. Meeting a dog (or cat) on his/her turf made complete sense to me. 2) My dogs would get the opportunity to not only have daycare/playtime, but they also would get to spend their nights cozied up on a couch, unlike a traditional kennel! 3) I wouldn't have to pick and choose how many walks they get for how long or what 12 hour period of time they'd get human contact (like with overnight nanny's). Combine all of the things above with the reasonable pricing (especially for owners with multiple pets) and facebook/instagram pictures and you have the best pet sitting business in the city! I've used WYWO on several occasions now, including their pet pit stop for drop in service to feed/take care of my two guinea pigs, as well as day care/overnight stays for my dog. Here my are observations on these particular services, and I will try to make distinctions where possible. Scheduling/Responsiveness: 5 out of 5 When we first moved to MKE, one of the things I needed to look for almost immediately was reliable pet sitting. I could no longer drop the dog off at a friend's house in Chicago, nor could I just have one of my work friends come during the middle of the day to feed my guinea pigs while we were traveling. WYWO seemed to be well recommended, so I e-mailed them and heard from Tiffany within 4 hours. By the end of that week,s he had already come over to our place to check out the scene in terms of what needed to be done in terms of guinea pig care. As time went on and I needed overnight stays for Yukon - it was the same type of quick response times with both e-mail and texts (she's faster at responding to texts if you have a pressing need, I guess...but to me it doesn't matter). Job Completion for Small Animals: 4 out of 5 I can tell how many times Tiffany has come over to take care of the guinea pigs vs how many times her other staff come over by the way things are left in our apartment. I mean, the guinea pigs are always happy and well fed and not dead (low bar, I know), but it's the little things like Tiffany will take their scooped dirty litter along with used fresh food bags, bundle them up, and throw them away down the trash chute (not in the apartment) while the rest of her staff will just put the small bags of refuse in the garbage can in the apartment. Not a huge deal all things considered, but when you're gone for a week, even the scent of the carefresh naturals can be a little bit um, "present" if not disposed of. Professionalism: 3.5 out of 5 I guess it depends on what you're looking for when it comes to calling someone a "professional." While I disagree with some of Jen W's sentiments, I had a similar experience the first time dropping off keys at Tiffany's place due to timing. Steve answered the door, looked a little confused when I said, "these are for the guinea pig", but I just left it up to fate (and faith) that things would be ok. And yep, like I said, they were. Tiffany's really flexible when it comes to things like key exchanges, and we've worked out several combinations of options that work for both of our schedules. As for dog drop offs and pickups, Tiffany made it a point to be there the first time I dropped and picked Yukon off/up, but since then I've interacted with two of her other staff members who are super friendly and will give a report like, "Oh yeah, he played well all week, and he went out to poop a few hours ago...". Fine. Peace of Mind: 5 out of 5 They take photos of your pet(s) either for overnight stays, day care stays, or drop in stays. If you follow WYWO on fb, you'll get to see your pet and others posted frequently throughout the day. I'm always cognizant that if something goes TERRIBLY wrong, I'll get a call. (They also post on instagram, but I can't speak to the frequency since I'm not on that particular service). Post Visit Pet Behavior: 4.5 out of 5 Yukon's always dead tired the day he gets back. I assume it's cause he gets to play all day and all night, and the moment he gets home, he just conks out and heads straight for his crate and sleeps. As others have noted, Yukon does return with this...distinct "dog" smell, but oh wait...yes, he IS a dog after all, and it's nothing that a really thorough brushing with the his furminator doesn't get rid of. I don't know if he actively enjoys going back to WYOW since by nature he prefers to be with family members, but from what I can tell, he really doesn't mind his experiences either, which is a win for me. Value: 5 out of 5 A pit stop runs me about 12$ (including mileage), and puppinator's overnight stays + daycare comes out to 30$ a day. Great values in my opinion, when you consider the Petsmart charges at least 30$ a day and the dogs there are all cramped up for most of that time. Overall: 5 out of 5 This facility upon first glance may look surprising from the outside (it's a house, after all!), but I'd urge everyone to give WYWO a fair chance. Likely, you'll come away super excited about the really good value that you're getting, plus the fact that your pet(s) have been kept in really safe and wonderful conditions. WYWO was a lifesaver when we--as first-time pet owners--got our first puppy. At first, we tried Central Bark because it was convenient and popular. However, Central Bark made it clear in the second week that Scout's herding was a problem they weren't sure they could handle and, after Scout contracted kennel cough and got hurt twice while at their facility, I started looking elsewhere for services on a more intimate scale. It's worth noting we were also in the midst of a first-time-dog-parent crisis. I was dragging Scout to the vet every other week with chronic diarrhea, coughing, conjunctivitis, and urinary tract infections. I felt sure we were failing our new puppy in every imaginable way. WYWO first caught my attention by the price--they offered day care services for far less than their competitors (and the vet bills were adding up). They also had operations out of their home: an intimate low-stress, kennel-free home environment where Scout could get one-on-one attention. I've never made a better decision. I marvel on a regular basis just how lucky I was to have snagged Tiffany at a time when she had the availability to enroll Scout in day care five days a week. WYWO exceeded all possible expectations. It was apparent Tiffany loved Scout (and every single one of her critters) as much as we did and the feeling was mutual. She uses only natural products and all their treats are grain free. As such, she recommended a grain free food brand to switch Scout to, handed over (a bottle of) joint health supplements to help Scout's Central-Bark hip injury (something I was on the cusp of dragging her back into the vet for), gave me cans of organic pumpkin to curb the diarrhea, and provided (a bottle of) D-Mannose capsules when she started noticing the onset signs of a urinary tract infection starting (and told me how to use them). Tiffany's knowledge of dogs was apparent at the outset; she was calm in chaotic situations and her clear love for animals came across in everything she did. When Scout drank hot chocolate (yes, I know--we fail) it was Tiffany I went to. Tiffany was waiting at the gate for us and induced vomiting with charcoal and monitored her throughout the day. While Scout was absolutely fine at the end of the day, I got sent home witrh a doggy bag of charcoal tablets and instructions on how to use them--just in case (Tiffany knew who she was dealing with). When it was Scout's birthday, I brought cupcakes to daycare (made dog-friendly with Tiffany-tips) but Tiffany already had a cake. When it became obvious Scout had a slightly unhealthy obsession with birds, Tiffany bought a bird feeder so that Scout could have more of them to watch. When I go out of town and obsessively text Tiffany, inquiring as to how Scout's doing, I get a text and picture back within minutes. When Scout cries to play with Tiffany's dog-allergic cat, Tiffany lets Scout play (and then gives her cat an oatmeal bath). WYWO prioritizes local businesses, raises money at local fundraisers, attends local events (Chill on the Hill!), and donates a sizeable amount of their profits to local charities. From all of this (and I could go on...)--and the way Scout gets way more excited to see Tiffany and her staff more than she's ever excited to see me--it's so obviously clear how much Tiffany adores the animals she cares for and, as such, provides a level of care I have failed to see anywhere else. Tiffany's blend of competence and compassion makes for an experience that's priceless--certainly worth at least double what she charges--and, above all, provides absolute peace of mind when I'm away from my little munchkin every day. read more

Just got back from a week away and picked up a very tired and very happy pup! My dog has been going to WYWO since she was a puppy (a few years now) and it is her home away from home. She plays in kiddie pools in the summer, runs and plays with her friends, sleeps on comfy beds or couches (only at daycare not at home!), and basically LOVES IT. Within a moment of pulling up, she is ready to kiss me goodbye and she can't get in the door fast enough. The staff is attentive to my requests and needs. I think it's great that Tiffany comes to meet them first and is genuinely concerned about anything at all that needs to be done while the animals are in her care. We have used WYWO Pet Sitting for our dog, Buddy, several times this year and we won't hire anyone else for our pet sitting needs! Tiffany and Steve have both been extremely accommodating. They care for Buddy in their home and they have even gone out of their way to accommodate our schedule by meeting us at different locations throughout the city to pick Buddy up to care for him. While Buddy is with them, the folks at WYWO make sure he gets plenty of exercise, time outdoors, and LOTS of TLC. We love that Tiffany sends pictures of Buddy to us while we are away from him--that is especially helpful for our daughter, who really misses Buddy when we are out of town. She looks forward to receiving these pictures! And, on a few occasions, Buddy come home to us freshly bathed and groomed, which was a very nice and welcome surprise for us. Update: I'm sure it is no surprise based on her other responses, but Tiffany found fault with everything in my husband's review and owned nothing. Let this be a red flag in itself. We have provided details of our faults and at no point would we ever approve of the dogs going off site to an undisclosed location, especially a horse farm, which is where we were told our dogs were at. After discussing my experience with many dog owners in my running club, it seems that they would also be uneasy with their dog being taken off site without being notified. We also discussed this with our veterinarian, who said, "I would stop taking your dogs there." ----- I had thought I posted my husband's review, but it was saved in my drafts. It is from May 10, 2015: Let me start this review out with a disclaimer - we did not hold up our end of our agreement with While You Were Out. We had to go out of town for a college graduation, and set our pickup time for our two dogs at the latest possible time provided to us. Both traffic and cell reception on the way back to Milwaukee were terrible, so we had no way to let WYWO know we were running late until it was too late, when we got a voicemail saying they were closing for the day and we could pick up our dogs the next morning. We would have been more than willing to accept that, had we provided enough food for our pups to eat dinner (we hadn't, and they both have special diets so it's not like WYWO could just use some spare kibble laying around the house). We called the office number back as soon as we got the voicemail, and a female explained to us that they were closing for the night; no, we couldn't show up late to pick them up (we were 30 minutes away at this point, and 10 minutes after closing); and we could pick them up in the morning. This seemed odd to us because, according to their website, "our service is 24/7 and operates year round", "we are the only TRUE no-time limitation option for your pet care needs", and "our staff lives on-site, meaning 24/7 care". Given the way the website makes it sound, it shouldn't have been an issue to pick up our dogs. We'd have been willing to pay extra given our screw up, and we were hoping that as pet lovers living on-site, WYWO would be understanding and willing to make an exception. As a result, we called the cell number listed on the site as a "last minute" contact, hoping to work something out with the owner. From the moment the owner picked up the phone, she was extremely frustrated and hostile sounding. She explained that it was Mothers Day and she had to let her staff spend time with their families, that she was with her mother and it was the only time she could see her, that normally they aren't open holidays (uh, Mother's Day isn't on the same tier of holidays as Christmas and Thanksgiving), and that no other business would even answer this phone call. She also explained that the employee that had our pets had left for her mother's house (Wait...where are our dogs??? Not at the house we dropped them of at???). She reiterated that we could pick the dogs up int he morning. We explained that we didn't need to get our dogs immediately, even though our text said we were half an hour away, we just wanted to get them since they didn't have food. After a bit more back and forth, she begrudgingly said that we could pick up the dogs after her and her mother finished her movie, and may have hung up on us at this point, though reception could be to blame there. Ten minutes later, we receive a text saying that her mother had insisted that she leave the movie theater, that she would have her employee drop the dogs off at the Bay location and she would meet us there in 20 minutes. We responded almost immediately via text that that was unnecessary, we could pick them up later and we wanted her to see her mother. She responded five minutes later that she was at the Bay location already, so we should just come and pick them up. When we got there, instead of letting us in the house, the owner we'd been texting just opened the door, handed the dogs' leashes to my fiancé, and when he asks how much we owe her, she simply says "I'll mail you an invoice" and closes the door. That's another thing - you never get to see where the dogs stay. The owner will make a home visit before you have your pets stay with them the first time, but when you get to WYWO, you get to go into a tiny entry way and never see any part of house, the back yard, anything. I get that staff supposedly lives on-site so it might be an intrusion on personal space, but I'm not asking to see every square inch of the place, just a bit of where my dogs will be spending time. So, to recap: inflexibility despite supposed 24/7 staffing, never get to see where the dogs actually stay, potentially transporting multiple dogs offsite when trying to accommodate employee needs. I've been using Tiffany and wywopets for not quite a year, but she has literally been a lifesaver. I changed jobs last fall and needed to find someone to help fill in while I was traveling for work. Having 2 older dogs who both have separation anxiety, being left on their own for 9 hours waiting for my husband was too stressful for them. Enter Tiffany who completely changed our lives! Our chihuahua is usually our barometer for people - if he doesn't like you he'll let you know and he loved Tiffany right away!! She came to meet our pups in the middle of a snowstorm and has shown that commitment to our dogs every week since. I now know when I'm traveling that my pups are well taken care of and love that I can check in on them through Facebook and Instagram. So thankful we found Tiffany and WYWOPets! Tiffany is amazing and goes the extra mile for her clients. Watching her interact with your pet is nothing short of amazing. We used to utilize services at the facility, but due to one of our dogs' anxiety and OCD, it isn't a good fit anymore. This is not due to anything with WYWOPets - it's just the old dog's neurosis. He doesn't handle change well and frequently has anxiety when leaving home. Thankfully, WYWOPets offers drop-ins at your home and Gizmo couldn't be happier! I just started taking my rescue pup to WYWO Pet Sitting and to say she enjoys herself is an understatement. They take pictures and videos all day long as your dog is enjoying his/herself outside with all the other dogs. They respond promptly to any questions you may have, and they have even dropped my dog off at home when I was not able to make it back to the house before closing time. I have nothing but Great things to say about While You Were Out Pet Sitting. When I am away I never worry about if my pets are being well cared for or are lonely. I take advantage of having Tiffany come to my house several times a day to check on them. I always get pics from her showing them running in the yard, or curled up on the couch cuddling with her. I have several "difficult" dogs, one being a 16 year old blind/deaf poodle and Tiffany does Great with her. She takes time to earn their respect and let them love her on their own terms. The best part is that While You Were Out Pet Sitting also gives back to the community!! They frequently make donations to local shelters/rescues. I have been extremely pleased with the care given our three cats this past year. One of them is elderly, with multiple health conditions so we were wondering if we should even take our scheduled two week vacation. Tiffany did so much to put our minds at ease. She posted pictures and videos daily of the kitties and wrote to give me frequent updates on them. She administered all the necessary meds at no extra charge and agreed that if our sickly cat showed increased symptoms that she would take him to our vet( who knew her). She came for a visit before we left and all three cats came out to greet her( no faking that!) We came home to find new toys that she had brought for them too. And she watered my plants! My wife and I recently moved to Milwaukee and WYWO is one of the best things about living here. Our miniature Schnauzer adores her time at WYWO and can't wait to come back. Tiff and her staff love their work and it shows. Need your dog picked up for and dropped off from daycare? Done. Have a dog on a boatload of meds? No problem. Funky diet? Got it covered. Does your dog only like to walk on the left side of the street, counter-clockwise, marking every fourth bush? Sounds like fun! WYWO works hard to figure out what you and your dog need and do their best to deliver. The prices are low. They regularly post pictures of your dog frolicking in the yard with a big ol' smile on its face to Facebook and Instagram so you can feel jealous. And the best part for our lazy couch-potato is that she gets to sleep on a nice leather sofa all day! Half of me doesn't want to write this review because I don't want anyone else to know about how amazing WYWO is, because then there is more demand and less space for me. But since I like Tiffany as a person, I'll be nice and write this review. WYWO really is as good as it gets. Add on the extra bonus that prices are low, and that's just the cherry on top (I would pay above market price for this kind of service). I have a "pit bull" dog, and therefore I'm hesitant to leave her with just anyone. However, TIffany understands and loves pit bulls and therefore I know my dog is in good hands. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that Gabbi (my dog) likes it more at WYWO than at home. The only she really wants in life is human attention, and she gets a lot of that at WYWO. Traditional kennel just aren't her style (too lonely) and doggy day cares aren't her thing either (too many other dogs, not enough couches). LOVE WYWO! read more

We have used While You Were Out Pet Sitting for almost 2 years now. Our very spoiled cats Duke and Audrey love the care and attention they provide. The team is prompt, responsive and responsible--not to mention highly attentive to ensuring your critters are taken care of while you are out. I love these guys and can think of no other service to use in the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area. The only complaint is that our cats are indifferent to our arrival home after all the love they get from their sitters. Hardly a criticism, of course, except to our egos! Really is as good as it gets! Our dog meatloaf had a great time while we were on our honeymoon. Tiffany was very inviting and really made us feel comfortable with leaving our pup there. Occasionally she would send us photos of our dog to show us that he was doing well. I couldn't imagine taking meatloaf anywhere else as he came back well rested and in good health. Responses were friendly and quick, and sitting style is superior to any big box sitting service. My dog has been a guest here for 5 months. I have seen a definite change in her personality. She is more aggressive, anxious and excitable. About a week ago, she came home for a play day with a 1 inch gash in her side. To make matters even worse, the wound was not cleaned nor was I provided with a plausible reason for the injury. I was never called about the injury and when I confronted the owner I was told, "she probably just ran into the fence." I will never take my dog back nor could I ever recommend this place to anyone else. If I had a choice I would not give this place ANY stars! read more

I cannot say what a relief it is to have someone not only who you trust to take phenomenal care of your dog, but a place your dog sees as a vacation. In addition, you get updates (including adorable photos) and the satisfaction of supporting an organization that does SO MUCH charity work. This is by far the best pet sitting service in Milwaukee, and I gather the entire state - and that's without considering how reasonably priced it is. I will keep bringing my dog here and have recommended it to everyone who has a pet. Since I wrote this initial draft, I have moved to Chicago. And still take my dogs up to Milwaukee for pet sitting.
