Amigos. Good Ol' Amigos. What can you say. Outside patio. Bar, live band, and the old charm of Old Port. Bouncer checks for ID100% no mater if you are so over the age of 21. It's 100% check. I think all states do that. I came late, but about when they were shutting down for the night, so I didn't get a drink. I listened to 2 songs with the band they had that night, and then it was closing time. 1am. The crowd is young. With drinks in hand, dancing and swaying to the music, everyone was having a good time. When I say if you're in town looking for a nice kick it this is the spot!!! Got there about 9:45 most places around for food on a Thursday night had already began to close. They had a live band outside on the deck and small bar as well smoke friendly. Everything was fresh even though we only had 13mins to order before the kitchen closed! Tried a Wild Maine Seltzer and it tasted great white cranberry flavor. Music was bumping inside the establishment they had a 2 pool tables and 2 dart boards. This reviews for one thing and one thing only, the strawberry margarita. Came here with some friends on the day that Jimmy Buffett passed away to mourn with margaritas. I wasn't expecting much from this place, especially considering some of the reviews, but with no Margaritaville locations in Portland, it was our best bet. For whatever reason these strawberry margaritas absolutely blew my mind, they were the perfect level of sweet and sour and the sugar rim was the perfect addition. We sat outside, and the service was a little bit slow because there's only one waitress and a lot of the tables were full, but we weren't particularly in a rush and we just had two rounds margaritas so that wasn't an issue. Next time I'm in Portland, I will definitely be back to have another strawberry margarita in Jimmy's honor. read more

If I could leave No stars, I would. My first night out in the old port in a few years-- I had spent all of my first 20 minutes downtown drinking my watered down drink from the bar. Used the bathroom and it was absolutely disgusting and out of toilet paper. There are also not enough toilets in this place to suffice how many people they allow inside at once... A friend of mine (female) needed to use the restroom and none were available, and considering the TP situation, she asked me to cover the door while she used the men's room. There was absolutely no one in line for either bathroom - she did her business and came out. We tried to go back to our friends but were greeted by security who said "Time to go!" , When we asked why he said "you can't use the men's room" .... So what would have been better? Should she have pissed on the floor? Pissed herself? That would explain why it smells so fucking bad in this building. Women don't have the upside of whipping our dicks out, outside in a jiffy. We gotta go when we gotta go, and if alcohol is involved... You have to be kidding. When we tried to grab our friends to alert them we were being told to leave, and needed to go, they would not allow us.. And the security guard physically put his hands on us as if we were being belligerent - which was not the case. At this point, I was disgusted by how the situation was handled. To throw out paying female guests (and we also happened to be the only group of black people in the bar) because they needed a bathroom?! When we went outside the security guard engaged in a back and forth with me and I told him i've seen him be extremely petty in the past. He told me that we were BANNED from going there again and took SEVERAL photos of me outside of the property - which I did not permit. All around this was blatant unprofessionalism. I asked him if he wanted the photo for later and he said "you're not my type" .... like dude. You're a slime ball making $20 an hour, on a power trip kicking girls out for peeing.... Like you're instantly a predator. All i could think about was how fucking crazy it is in the world today.... Look at the news. People are no longer gender conforming.. Who is a SECURITY guard to be on a fucking power trip about which bathroom you can use?! Mind your business! Looking for a place to sit and have some chips and queso after a long day of driving. We thought there was a dining room and must have looked pretty confused walking in and out several times looking for it. Finally the bartender took pity on us and we ended up sitting at the bar with our delicious chips. Not crowded at all when we got there, but the bartender told us we must have drawn a crowd because by the time we left the place was rocking. Loved this place for late night bars and binge drinking. We stumbled in a night before a wedding and had a great time meeting locals and crushing millers. This place is awful on service, decent drinks for a dive bar, but surly is the best word to describe the wait staff. The drinks are fine, the food is bad, the bar tender is fine but the waitresses are AWFUL and will treat you with hostility. I ordered a drink. There are tables inside the bar, in the back patio and outside in front on a front patio. I moved to take it to the tables outside and was told they were table service only. Ok. I was told I could have my drink on the back patio despite my family being on the front patio. I finished it in back and left. I should not have come back. My wife wanted one so we went in. We got a drink and ordered a quesedilla. My 13 and 16 year old kids came out back and sat. All was fine. I went into the bar to get my food at the bar and my other 13 year old came in. This time, the waitresses said she couldn't be inside or on the patio. I asked if we could sit in a booth inside. Nope. Outside in front? Nope. Out back? Nope. So, you can buy food and drink but despite the lack of signage on the back patio (which they directed me to) they won't let you stay to eat it. they need to either post signage in the back or not let families in in the first place. I'm sorry, but there is no signage on the back patio stating 18 or over nor at the booths inside nor the front patio. I tipped well, and if you take my money for food and drink you have to eat us consume it especially since it's not allowed outside of the front patio When I protested to the waitress that this is the third time they've given me a hard time and all I'm doing is buying what they're selling she argued with me. To make matters worse, the inexperienced, overwhelmed and incredibly rude waitresses make this a place to avoid lime the plague. For bad food, decent drinks and rude treatment you can do better in Portland. I have all the sympathy in the world for understaffed workers trying hard; I have none for those who arbitrarily male things needlessly difficult for families and take your money without providing a place to consume the goods and then fail to post the mandated signage or inform customers. Don't let the name fool you, this is one of the most well known dive bars in Portland Maine. If that's what you're looking for, look no further. 5 stars based in the fact that I can always count on strong well drinks and good hangs. People watching is 10/10. Staff is great. I haven't eaten the food, but I don't really want to - so there's that. Best smoking patio in portland if that's your thing. Our favorite thing to do if we're doing late night hangs is get a drink at the bar and listen to Emo on the jukebox (judge me i don't care). Our 3rd tome to this bar we were having a great time and my friend attempted to go to the bathroom and hit a wrong door which was locked. She promptly came back to our bench and proceed on with the night. About 5 minutes later the security came to our table and told us to get out because my friend "puked in the stairwell". She was gone more more than 1 Minute and the staff claims That she "puked in the stairwell". last night about midnight my friend was crying hard. I took her to get some air but she had to pee. so I took her in their bathroom which mind you is the smallest bathroom ever with doors that don't lock. so I went in the stall with her like all of us do all the time. I was holding the door for her while she bawled and pissed. I was making sure she was okay and listening to her when out of nowhere a bartender opens the door and keeps it open to the public. starts yelling at us that two can't be in one stall. I understood her concerns and acknowledged them but let her know my friend is literally naked right now I'm not opening it. she kept yelling so I slithered out the stall as best I could. I let the bartender know why I understood but the girl is going through a break up and to please leave her be. THERES ARE NO SIGNS IN THE BATHROOM SAYING YOU CANT HAVE TWO IN ONE STALL AND IVE NEVER HEARD THAT BEFORE IN MY LIFE. my friend comes out the stall when done and starts asking the bartender for her name, if she works there, what the problem was as she had a valid ID. as I was wiping the tears from her face the bartender continued to yell at her. she kicked my friend out just for asking her name. didn't even let her wash her hands. the bartender is about 5'3 and has short blonde hair maybe in her 30s. this was the first Saturday of March 2023. the bartender didn't care for my friends well being or safety. this isn't the first time they've treated people unfairly and inhuman. My favorite bar/hangout of all time. AHHmigo's is more like it. When I visit Portland, this is really the only place I feel like going aside from the Downtown Lounge. Everywhere else (for drinking) is like being at a fraternity party (Gritty's, Bullfeeney's). Or, people they're pretending they're like... I don't even know, at the wine bar. Amigo's is a relaxed atmosphere, with pool tables, a jukebox, a digital bar games machine, and dartboards. The bartenders are nice and funny, and the drinks are CHEAP! Also, they come in a pint glass. A pitcher of PBR (an excellent choice at Amigo's) is $8, I think. Stick a straw in it! Also, there's a neat little smoking area/patio out back, where there are bands during the summer, and heaters in the winter! You can also go upstairs for food and a quiet drink, which I have never done. Getting kicked out of or not let into Amigo's is a sign you need to ease up in general. The place has a great feel and I encourage people who are looking for a relaxed atmosphere to check it out. Happy hour is from 4-8pm and brings you $2.75 Maine beers and $3 mixed drinks which they make in...wait for it... pint glasses. read more

mexican food is yummy, especially from this place! They give you free chips and good salsa when you first enter. Their drinks and food are cheap, really cheap, and the people who work there are super nice. The menu is good for die hard Mexican fans or the American mexican food lovers. They have a good selection of stuff for meat eaters as well as vegetarians and seafood freaks. Love this bar. Pros: Cheap drinks, heavy on the hand. Laid back crowd. Smoker-friendly, but not in your face about it. Very rock-influenced music, bartenders and audience. Free darts, heated outdoor patio in the winter. Cons: Worst bathrooms in town (go upstairs ladies). Kinda dumpy, but in a way that makes you feel at ease...so not pretentious at all. Not a great date place, honestly. Unless you're a hippie, then for sure. :) Is this the nicest bar in town? Hells no. I returned to Amigos to give it another shot, and I was more impressed this time than the last time, though not enough to upgrade it to four stars. It's a solid meal, I'll keep coming back, but I just can't give myself to give it a better than "decent" rating. Decent isn't bad, it's just not special to me :) I'm still comparing everything to Cilantro in New York City, but hey, I'm not in New York anymore, so let's be real. We stopped in for a couple drinks at the bar and were astounded by how dark and dirty it was. I went to the restroom and the bathroom was DISGUSTING- there were HUGE, LONG cobwebs hanging from the ceiling!! I had pondered the thought, maybe there were a Halloween decoration that hadn't been taken down yet?? But OH NO. These were the real deal. I couldn't help but nervously look around for the spider that made those things!! We didn't eat here. No, experiencing the bathroom and bar were quite enough for us! The drinks were cheap and all served in large pint glasses. So that was cool, and maybe if your drunk and it's late at night, this place wouldn't be so bad.
