As far as the ambiance, it is a backwoods kinda country store vibe. Very low key. Very nice for what it is supposed to be. There is limited parking, but as we were the only folks there, it was no problem. Prices were a bit steep, but as to be expected from a touristy spot.

Had a wonderful conversation with lady running the store, and could have spent all afternoon chatting. Stop in, you'll have a smile on your face and probably walk out with a few reasonably priced bottles.

However by local referendum, the decision can be overturned and some counties have done just that. Beaufort, thank goodness, is one of those counties, although on Sundays you can only get beer or wine. So if you're hankering for a vodka tonic on a Sunday and you forgot to buy the vodka the day before, you are out of luck. We used to have "blue laws" like this in Massachusetts although they were for the most part overturned a few years ago. I'm not a fan of states getting involved in regulating things like the sale of alcohol. So suffice it to say we were happy to find Bill's open for business since a nice bottle of wine was going to elevate our picnic plans a notch. The couple working in the store that day were extremely nice and very helpful. We needed the white wine already chilled and the woman led me over to the refrigerator section where I perused a fairly good selection. I chose a pinot grigio that turned out to be perfect. This is a large shop with plenty of parking. I think it would have anything anyone would ever need by way of alcohol selections. We did not see many liquor stores at all throughout our stay in the Low Country. I can think of only one other that I remember passing. There are likely more rules about liquor stores here than I am aware of. But lucky for us we found such a winner with a lot of choices. I like choices!

They didn't know me from Adam and they bent over backwards to assure me that if what I was looking for was available they would get it for me. Their prices for the super rare stuff is through the roof HOWEVER, the entire secondary is like that. And the stuff they have is ultra rare. In taking to the owner and staff, they are very forth coming about why they price they way they do. Being in retail myself I completely agree with them. Why should someone else come in and buy something to flip it when Louies can make that money instead. If someone is willing to pay it, its worth it. They also are very frank in saying if you're a regular customer of theirs and spend money with them they're more apt to talk to you and make sure you're comfortable with the prices. So they have prices for flippers, sippers and regulars. All sounds fair to me when they tell you what's going on and let you decide what you want to do. There are very few places I'm comfortable shopping with and these folks instantly made me feel comfortable. Could I have found slightly better prices, maybe? Could I have found a friendlier and more honest staff, I don't think so. Though I don't live in the area I'm there a few times a year and they'll always be someone I'll visit and spend money with.

I don't normally review liquor stores, but my experience at this location earlier this month was so…read morehorrific I felt a warning was required, especially for female customers. While on a girls trip, we visited this shop to get some beverage supplies. Before we could even walk through the door, we were greeted by the male employee who announced it was "Naked Lady Thursday." We tried to laugh off his lewd joke in hopes of making a quick entrance and exit since liquor stores are few on the island. However, this man proceeded to follow us through the store and repeat his original proclamation over and over and even adding that we needed comply if we wanted to be served. When we attempted to make it known we weren't interested, he even went so far as to comment one of us was "feisty" and he might have to "take her in the back." I'd advise women to steer clear of this place!
