After visiting Notre Dame Cathedral, I walk over the bridge to explore the shops. The line to Amorino was out the door with at least 12 people in line. The gelato must be tasty right? An assortment of flavors, clean establishment with seats and tables, and very friendly and helpful staff to help us non-French speaking folks. "Thank you bad weather/rain! Because of you, I've discovered this great place!" Thanks to bad weather, we decided to skip our walk along the shops and ducked into this cafe. Also, we were rather captivated by the delicious bakery-like smell enamating from its doors. Expect to wait about 15 mins for a seat if you are in a group of 3 or more. Lucky for us, we were good with the window seat, which allows us to enjoy the rain-soaked streets of Paris and passerbys hurrying along. We knew that the portions in Paris were huge, hence, we ordered just one cup of Hot Chocolate. Chocolate lovers will definitely love this drink - its texture was creamy, smooth and fragrant. Two sips would send you into aphrodisiac heaven! A very good drink to share on a rainy Thursday afternoon in Paris. Service was excellent (staff really know the menu well and gave good recommendations) and the ambience was top-notch (everything you would expect from a cafe in Paris). We didn't manage to try the dessert at this outlet but had a chocolate éclair at an outlet nearer our hotel. Not the best ice creams in the world, but they are tasty and they are all around Paris. The serve them with 2 flavors if you want and a macaron on top. On my last trip to Paris I tried the gorgeous icecream from Amorino. Amorino has a huge range of fantastic and unique varieties of icecream and very nice stores. They have many stores all over Paris and in the meantime a few in Germany (e.g. Berlin, Munich, Heidelberg). The best thing is, that you can choose the size (small, middle, big) of the cup and choose as many varieties as you want (which is very nice, because they have so many nice and special varieties :)) If you visit Paris, you should definitely take a short break at one of the Amorino stores :) read more

Wandering through the Latin quarter we found this Ice cream place by chance and decided to treat ourselves. You first pay for the size you want - we chose classique which seemed to be medium sized (one cone and one cup) and then you can order as many flavours as you like. I chose pistachio and hazelnut chocolate for my cone which was constructed as a wonderful flower with petals of ice cream. Great place to stop for some Gelato. I was very impressed by how good this place was. I went twice while in Paris because I loved it so much. They have a small seating area or you can take your cone and walk down the streets. Not a bad place to get macaroons with gelato. Flavors themselves were good enough and my son enjoyed them. The service on the other hand was super rude. They have an indoor seating area that was completely empty (not a single customer). My 6 year old was taking time to select the macaroons, so I asked if I can sit and wait for him to complete the purchase. The lady behind the counter tells me in a rude tone that I cannot enter the seating area until the purchase is complete and I am given the receipt of the purchase. MIAM MIAM! I am so so happy to have discovered Amorino, the only downside is that any other ice cream I have from now on will be utterly inferior! The St Michel branch of this ice cream genius tempted me back time and time again. You can choose from either small, medium or large, and this corresponds to the size of the cone/cornet. I warn you: even a greedy monster like me considered the 'small' to be rather sizeable, so only go for the large if you're feeling particularly ravenous. The next important decision is of course, what flavours? And yes, I say flavours, plural, with an 's'! Because at Amorino you can have AS MANY FLAVOURS AS YOU WANT! Now if that doesn't make you jump up and down with joy then you're clearly a miserable person who needs to eat more ice cream. Even with the smallest cornet, you can choose as many flavours as you please, though I wouldn't recommend going for more than three, in order to get the full flavour from each of them. I also personally recommend: l'inimitabile, speculoos and tirimasu as they compliment each other wonderfully. After your selection you will have the pure delight of seeing your ice cream crafted in front of your eyes. I say crafted because it's not just a case of slopping a couple of scoops on top of each other, it's more like a work of art. Your ice cream is arranged into the shape of a flower, with a couple of scoops in the middle, surrounded by 'petals'. You really have to see it to appreciate it fully - and then eat it greedily of course! After singing all these praises, it would be natural to expect Amorino to cost a fortune. You will then be relieved to know that their prices are within a very reasonable range, even affordable by the stingy cheapskate traveller one might say! read more

But at 5 flavors, the odds of hitting non outstanding flavors are high. We visited 3 different Amorino's while in Paris. This one still has quality ice cream. However, the service was a bit rude here. I wanted to take a picture of my sister getting her ice cream and I got yelled at for doing so. We also didn't realize we weren't standing in the correct place to order and one of the young ladies didn't stay anything until we were standing in front of her. She's the same one that said no pics. So she saw us standing in line behind what we thought was correct. The poor service was only experienced at this location. There wasn't a super long line (but there were a few others in front of us). Seating is very limited at this location. Other stores have in and outdoor seating. This one does not. There were others already in the seating area in this store so we couldn't really sit and enjoy our ice cream. read more

Walking after dinner, my wife and I looked for a place to get something warm to drink and small dessert. The staff here speaks very limited english, so when we were asked if the gelato was gluten free (my wife and I are celiac) we were told 'no'. looking back I think this was just lost in translation and we would have been fine. Expensive and worth every penny. Simply great, creamy authentic Italian ice cream with very original flavours.
