I freaking love this place when I come back home to Winnipeg. Not only is it such a warm atmosphere, their menu is large! You can never get bored of trying new drinks each time. I definitely recommend reading the menu in advance to save you time there. My only criticism is I wish it was larger with more seating, but that's a good problem to have. read more

The teas here are very delicious! I just wish I could get an extra large container of it. But you can buy bags of all the flavors of the tea leaves that they have to brew at home. My Pomegranate Hibiscus tea was exquisite. I love how they gave me milk on the side to pour into my tea as requested. They also don't mind giving you sugar to add to the liquid. My friend tried the Peach Punch and it was very sweet. They also put the tea in beautiful cups and the timer for seeping the tea are cool little hourglasses. My friend and I decided to eat "PEI Mussels and bread" the Mariniere version. The mussels were delectable! Nice, plump and easy to chew and swallow. The soup at the bottom of the cute little cauldron like pot they give you is White Wine, Garlic, Onion, Parsley, Cream and it is a very thick creamy soup. Our waiter was tall, handsome and very polite and knowledgeable. He was very helpful. I would love to come back here to taste more teas! read more

If you live in Winnipeg and haven't checked out this bar yet, get on it as soon as possible because this place has it going! Went on Saturday with my partner and we were blown away not only by the vibe and decor, but by the cocktails, and more importantly by the food. Talked to the owner briefly and he let us know that they recently changed up their menu and does it ever rock. I'm not a huge fan of tartare, but the beef tartare is absolutely fantastic. We also tried the golden beets and the broccolini, both of which were so tasty and filling that we will definitely be back. The cocktails rocked as well, I got one that had a special earl grey tea infused gin with some lemon and sugar. Holy was it bang on. Who else is doing this in Winnipeg right now? WOW. All I can say about this place! All of the food, wine and cocktails are top notch. Best in the city hands down. The atmosphere is amazing and one of their chefs Jermey always makes it such an amazing and personal experience. After the theatre this is prime location in The Exchange. Our first visit. In fact, the view outside the giant red neon trimmed window was almost worth the trip alone. Cobblestones, lighted trees and street lamps in the rain were, dare I say,, enchanting. Tasteful atmosphere, exposed brick, low light, high ceiling and rustic tables. Menu was extensive. A tall and imposing bar wall of assorted teas and libations. We enjoyed a spectacularly fine quality and diverse charcuterie, very reasonably priced and generously portioned. And the cocktails! Well the tea here can have an extra kick if you want. Several tea themed concoctions which our trio sampled generously. I think a lot of thought has gone into the unique mixology. And everything we tried was working. Service was very friendly, not the least bit cloying or intrusive. Over all vibe was very laid back. Tunes were spot on for me, the likes of Van Morrison and Neil Young, balanced in the background. Nothing overbearing or pretentious. We will return. Looking forward to it over the summer. read more

A friend and I recently visited Winnipeg and the Amsterdam Tea Room was one of the highlights of our trip! We came pretty early in the evening, sat up at the bar, and instantly hit it off with all the amazing people who work there. You can tell Mark, the owner, has a real passion for what he does along with Frank, the chef, and Gabrielle, the cocktail master. The food was amazing, the boozy tea cocktails were perfect, and the atmosphere was on point. And when we wanted simpler drinks, Gabrielle was on it! We loved it so much that after visiting a few other taverns we came back and ended our night at the Tea Room. It's an absolute must if you're in the area! read more

The Amsterdam Tea Room has an impressive selection of tea (I think it was 77 different teas when I was there) and there is a good selection of food options as well. I enjoyed both teas I had (Barroness Earl Grey and Peach and Mango Oolong) and the Chocolate Sin Cake was very yummy. The staff were very friendly and helpful when asking about the different teas. Full disclosure here in that the owner Mark is my nephew. So we were fortunate to be invited to a friends and family (I think there were also quite a few food writers there) night to test drive the new menu. It was a "small plates": night where we got a sampling of everything. I have always liked the tea room but was blown away last night. Everything was delicious and there were some that were outstanding. For fans of steak tartare which is not so common anymore you will not be disappointed. I loved the mussel dish and the home pickled herring dish but I think my favorites were the golden beets and the sausage and kale stampots. Those were standouts. And I have to say the service was pretty amazing considering the restaurant was full and they were cranking out food for everyone at once. Each course came out in 10-15 minutes which was pretty impressive. And of course they have their amazing drinks and teas. I have to give the Amsterdam Tea Room five stars because we are family, but they deserve it all the same. read more
