    "fresh" taro bubble tea
    Jacquie T.

After getting off from work today, I noticed that Tea Story had finally opened and I was really excited to see what they had to offer. As far as interior design goes, I agree that it looks pretty fabulous, and you could tell that they spent a lot of time working on the store's look. However, as beautiful as it may look, the real deal is how good their products are. They had a wide selection of different types of teas, bubble teas, fusion teas and assorted types of dessert waffles and sandwich waffles. I decided to give their sandwich waffle a try because it sounded interesting, and I haven't really seen it available anywhere else. I can't remember the name of the sandwich waffle (~$10) I ordered, but it had avocado, cucumber, salmon and teriyaki sauce, i think. As I was dining in, I was surprised that they would serve the sandwich waffle on a paper plate, but I guess that's okay, it's probably because it's easier to clean up. The most important thing was is the sandwich waffle good? Sadly, I found it to be a bit plain. The waffle itself was kind of flat and thin and tasted bland. The sandwich as a whole was just okay, but at least the ingredients were fresh. After eating the sandwich waffle I got a bit thirsty, so I decided to give Tea Story another try and ordered a drink, because after all they were called "Tea Story", so the main selling point is their assorted teas and drinks. I ended up ordering the "fresh" taro bubble tea (~$4.50). They had used both the taro powder (I assume for stronger flavour) and also what looked like frozen taro puree. I've never had bubble tea with "fresh" taro before so this was something exciting for me to try. The bubble tea tasted great, so that was a plus. If I ever came back to Tea Story again, it would be for their bubble tea and not their waffle sandwiches, even so, it's still a big IF whether I'd come back or not.

Does this look like real fruit watermelon to you???....

Disappointing. The real fruit watermelon was bright pink and tasted like bubble gum... Boba was soft. Go to panda tea for boba.

I have to find these to buy

Neat place with a helpful and informative staff, who it turned out later work and sing well together. I was expecting a tea/coffee kind of place, and after walking in the menu made me wish I had not eaten before. So we sat down and enjoyed some tea, found the MIB chairs at the front uncomfortable so move to one of the tables. Over all a good experience, the only issue I have is it would have been nice to have a non-fashion (read manly) magazine in their pile. We will be back and bring an appetite and update thing baced on that visit.

I love Poke…read moreand unfortunately, Winnipeg is seriously lacking in Poke options (I believe Chosabi is the only other place that offers Poke). Hawaii Kai is located inside Cityplace mall. It is a take-out spot, catering to the city's downtown office workers. Their menu includes a variety of 'healthy' Hawaiian and Asian cuisine, including salads, smoothies and bubble-tea. I ordered the salmon poke bowl. It came out to about $15. The portion was relatively small for what I expected. The salmon had a strange type of mayo spice on it. The crunch flakes used were reminiscent of cheap Frito corn chips. Overall I was disappointed. I was looking forward to Hawaii Kai as an alternative to Freshii (also located in the mall), but with it being much more expensive for sub-par quality, I think I will be pass on this in the future and head back to Freshii for their rice bowls (I know this is not an apples to apples comparison). This scores 3 out of 5 mainly because of its location and it being the second spot in Winnipeg to offer Poke.

My mother recently rediscovered her love for Second Cup coffee and it had become an ongoing battle…read moreof "where to go for coffee" between us because up until recently I refused to go anywhere but Starbucks (I'm really, really picky about my lattes). But late last year I decided to buy a pop art ceramic mug for my mom's birthday (she had been eyeing it for months) at this location and I was really impressed with the customer service. It's pretty rare that I experience good customer service ANYWHERE downtown (including Starbucks) so I was really happy that the lady working went out of her way to find me a box with styrofoam to pack the mug in AND a cute paper bag that looked a lot like a gift bag, when I told her it was for my mom's birthday (she didn't charge me extra for either). As for the coffee, I decided I would get my mom a $30 gift certificate (ya I know, original) from the same location for Xmas. They have this promotion on where you recieve a free latte if you put $30 on one of the Second Cup cards/GC so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try a Caramel Corretto. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. My mom was completely right when she told me that their coffee is MUCH stronger in flavour and caffeine than Starbucks. So overall I'm pretty much a convert. I go to university a few blocks away and will definitely be back whenever I need a fix. P.S. The Raspberry Dark Chocolate Latte is delicious.
