I absolutely love taking the train and find it to be a far more relaxing experience than driving and dealing with traffic! Cars are clean and air conditioning is usually running strong! Decent selection at cafe car and seats are comfortable enough for hours long rides. The jump to business class isn't too much more so if you're traveling more than an hour I personally recommend the upgrade. Business class comes with water/soda and a snack by my last trip to and from I didn't have an attendant come by so this was disappointing. Also wish attendants would address children that were running up and down aisles but other than that, I had a good experience. Power outlets available at each seat but not USB/USC so make sure to bring your base for cables. Curtains available to block out light and headrests have disposable paper sheets for sanitation

Travel from hell. From Chicago to Los Angeles 43 hour was delayed 8 hours. County jail has better food than this train . We paid $2000.00 for privet cabin with its own shower and toilet. I have traveled every where in Europe amazing rides. Amtrak rides are so bouncy and horrible. It felt like you are in a ride in magic mountain, up dawn , let, right... all night could not sleep at all. For the amount of money they charge you can fly first class for 5 hours top. Never again.

Why even bother? Booked last week and was emailed yesterday evening that there was an EVENT happening so screw the disabled people and make them lug around luggage over wires, cords, curbs, gravel, dirt, boulders to the other side so paying customers don't disturb a party. Absolutely no AMTRAK employee available but plenty of EVENT security. Sad and what an embarrassment for Anaheim. I can see why AMTRAK is losing money. Clueless employees, no announcements, lacking in ADA reasonable accommodations if there is a party at the station.

It was a colorful mini train with a driver in the engine trailing two train cars with two rows each, just big enough to fit a dozen small children. The kids went nuts for this train. There were too many of them to ride at once, but they took turns for the first few rides until some of them started to get bored and returned to the rest of the party. The remaining die-hards, including my son, kept the train full for the remainder of its contracted time. I think it was there for one hour, and my son was on board for more than 45 minutes. The parking lot was small, and the train had a tight route: two loops followed by a dizzying finale of mini-train donuts. The driver moved fast, swerving and accelerating to delight the children. They were all buckled in, with the driver checking himself before each departure, but it did feel a little bit dicey. I am not shocked that this Yelp page is mostly 5-star reviews, with a smattering of 1-stars due to child endangerment. (There appears to have been an incident in September 2017.) My boy and his friends had a blast, though, and no one was harmed by this hour of Trains on the Move. If you have little thrill seekers and moderate risk tolerance, your kids are guaranteed to love the speedy baby train.

We haven't even made it to the water and I can see the sun setting past a huge pile of garbage just after San Juan Capistrano. Beware and take an earlier train.. the sun went down during the hour long stop by the trash, we were 5 min or less from the water. Our arrival time was 7:22 pm but I doubt we'll get to Solana Beach before 10. People are calling and begging family to pick them up from early stops. I just canceled the $188 round trip train adventure I planned for my kids and I right before school starts up again. Thank god they aren't on this one, I'll never ride it again :/ I thought this might be a one time issue but now looking at reviews I can see people were trapped on this nightmare for many hours in the past :( I was spoiled traveling in Japan via Shinkansen all summer, but I'll say I've never been nearly as late on even the NJ transit or the LIRR.. or even on trains going to Boston or Washington DC. I feel so bad for California after trying to ride this to San Diego from LA and also worried now about an upcoming trip to Santa Barbara. Serious issues :( I want a full refund!

The one great thing about traveling by train is that you really don't need to be there until minutes before the train leaves unlike flying that requires you to go through TSA. They ended up opening the door 10 minutes before departure which was not enjoyable for all of us standing under the heat. It's very easy to get around here. Found out that from Union Station, the connection hub with Amtrak will take you to Fullerton where you connect with the Surfliner Shuttle Bus which will take you all the way to Palm Springs with stops at Morongo, Downtown Palm Springs, the PSP Airport and lastly Palm Desert and Indian Wells. This main hub is the center to the city. Besides the Amtrak that departs and connects here, you have all the metro lines. Everything kind of ends here and connects to each other. Start here and you can get to Long Beach with the blue line, Santa Monica with the gold line, North Hollywood with the red, Pasadena also with the Gold and even LAX. Everything connects to each other and Union Station would probably be the main and sometimes the last stop. It's a nice station with some food stalls. The lobby waiting area is quite nice with the full train station vibe. Just outside, you have downtown LA to one side, Chinatown to the other and literally across the street, the fame Olvera Street. Train tracks are quite well organized. Schedule tends to be good with schedules showing on the boards that's scattered throughout the station. It's a nice station if you haven't been.
