Since my teens (a very long time ago) I've been in and out of therapy. I always loved having someone to go to that would let me vent about my week, listen without judgement, and just be in my corner. Over the years...and years... I've probably seen around 15 different therapists. I've moved. They've moved. Many, I only saw a couple of times before realizing they just weren't a good fit for me. Then there was the one that had a creepy ass collection of porcelain dolls in her office. They stared at me. I never returned. So, let's just say I've been around the block a few times when it comes to therapists. K? I contacted Amy originally about couples counseling. My partner and I went in and after the first session I knew I found someone special. She was very different than anyone I had seen before... Now let me back up. Previously, my experience with therapists always left me with the feeling that they were simply my personal paid cheerleaders. Yay me!!! They would pet me (ummm.. metaphorically), smile and nod, make all my feelings about life feel validated, give me a sucker and send me off into the world freshly stroked. Rinse. Repeat the following week. I didn't hate that. Enter Amy G. She took my sucker, tossed it aside and put a mirror in front of me. Then she made me look. WTF??? Ugh!!! She's making me DO THINGS!?!? Yeah ok... that didn't literally happen but that's pretty much how I felt. Was it scary? Hell yes. Did it need to happen? Yes, it certainly did. I never knew how much I needed a good hard look at myself. She is authentic AF. Honest and forthright. She will dig deep. She will challenge you. She will find things buried that you don't even remember hiding. Then she will make you look at it. Hard. You will confront it and it will be a bit daunting... and then.. It won't. Before you know it she's rinsing off your sucker and giving it back to you with a smile... and sometimes a joke (Yes, she cleans you out emotionally then can still make you laugh. Black magic perhaps??). Now, off you go with a new personal "knowing" or understanding about yourself. Eventually figuring out together what to do with it. In summation, if you're simply looking for a belly rub and a tickle... Move along. If you're ready to do some work and make some changes.. See Amy. I had my first appointment with Amy today and it could not have been better. It was a really seamless first meeting and I felt very heard and understood. I also really enjoy that Amy gives feedback that isn't just your typical therapist response. She listens and responds to YOU. I've had therapy in the past, Amy is different and I would recommend her 10/10 times. read more

I wrote to her, called her, texted her. Not ONE response!!! She is totally unresponsive to communication, which is very very unprofessional. I wonder if she would treat clients that way during crises? I would avoid her. I went with someone else totally professional, responsive, and wonderful. read more

Amy Gragert is a life-changing counselor. I have seen her many times in the past few years. Not only is she incredibly helpful as a counselor in all forms of family and personal counseling but she is a great professional adviser and life coach. She helped me with job and life transitions and gave me the personal tools to make these transitions easier. I would not be at the successful place that I am without her help and guidance in my past. She gave me great insight to helping deal with issues I was not recognizing in my personal life. As someone who had never seen a counselor I was timid and skeptical about counseling, and she made me realize what a positive life changing experience it can be with her comfortable demeanor and approach. I have seen Amy for therapy for some years, and I would highly recommend her to anyone serious about changing their life for the better. I was in a serious depression at the time, and had been for many years prior to first attempting therapy. Amy put me at ease right away, and was very caring and kind. Very quickly, I felt as if she were the right therapist for me. Part of the therapeutic process is learning to change your thinking, and it is not an easy, "three-steps, and whoops! You're done!" process. It takes time to change one's thinking so that the old messages we still hear in our brains ("You're stupid," "You'll never amount to anything," "Who would ever love you," etc.) are recognizable as something we can change. The thing I really appreciate about Amy's approach is that she is kind and compassionate, but she also pushes you to recognize thought and behavior patterns that are detrimental to one's well-being, and pushes you to recognize that the desire to change is only part of the process of changing yourself for the better; she can help, but the really hard work is up to you.
