I first went to Nina Powers in 2004 when my shoulder, as a result of my back being poorly aligned, tied itself into a knot and refused to come undone. Nina was the only person who could meet me at 8 PM, which was when I got done with work, and after an hour-long massage, I felt like a new person. I went to Nina just last week, six days before my sister's wedding in New Engalnd, because I lifted a heavy table and completely messed up my back. She was kind enough to see me the day I called, worked on me for nearly two hours, until almost 10 PM on a Friday night. I spent the rest of the weekend recovering, but I firmly believe that the only thing that helped me get on the road to recovery and kept me out of the pain doctor's office getting another steroid injection was because of Nina's work! I rode horses for many years and we constantly were evaluating them for lameness issues, trying to find the source of their leg or back pain. I feel that Nina looks at people with the same sort of eye -- you should watch them walk and turn, see how they sit or lie down, and then begin your work. After getting on the massage table, I realized that there was nothing to cover with, only a fitted sheet stretched over the table itself. The room was dimly lit so I didn't mind as much and I just assumed Maisie would bring a sheet or towel when she came in. It turned out that we did the 1 hour massage undraped but since the room was pretty dark it was ok. Maisie is a very skilled and talented therapist and understands the human body quite well. She was very nice and offered me a cold bottle of water to take with me. I still give her a good review although I found the room darkness to be unusual. Nice bodywork Maisie! It is located in a great spot in South Austin. The space is simple in a small shopping center, and it was very clean with nice decor and a modern feel with a cute design. This is not a fancy spa vibe, so if that is your cup of tea, go elsewhere. It was easy to find free parking. The massage itself was good. Maisie did a great job on my back and neck, which is where I asked her to focus. I liked how she used her forearms in addition to her hands to help stretch tight areas. The massage felt rushed, however, and she only used 50 of the 60 minute time slot. I checked my phone before I got on the bed, and we wrapped up in under 50 minutes. Booking with Maisie was really easy through texting to find a time that worked for both of our schedules. She sends great reminders and also offers deals on booking future massages and add-ons. I feel like if I went back to Maisie I would want a 90 minute massage for the whole experience, as it felt more rushed than I would like for some areas of my body like my legs. Her non-Groupon pricing was higher than I could afford to rebook, which was a bummer as in the past I have met my regular massage therapists via Groupon and kept booking with them. She does offer some specials though for booking in advance, so be sure to ask about that if you like her style.
