Baking macarons is a tricky thing and Damaris did such a good job breaking down all the steps. She gave us lots of tips and tricks for our home baking, and you can see her passion for what she does. That said, I have been to several of the cooking schools in Columbus and this was my least favorite overall attendee experience. It was more expensive, yet very "basic" for lack of a better word. All of the cooking classes I have attended come with some kind of amenities - a welcome cocktail, wine bar, cheese and crackers, hot coffee/tea, etc. Something. This class was three hours long and there was nothing offered but water and iced tea (on a 20 degree day). We also did not receive any kind of information prior to the class, so parking was like solving a mystery (hint: the parking lot is behind the house down a side alleyway)

So first off I want to say I am glad my husband purchased me this gift. In theory cooking with tea…read moresounded like the coolest thing ever and it was a very thoughtful gift, but the actual experience was a bit lackluster. The Seasoned Farmhouse is a beautiful space, but the cooking class was just okay. I unfortunately didn't learn any new skills and the main reason for this review being so low is because my husband and I got food poisoning at the event. I felt sick as soon as I ate the food and didn't feel better until 24 hours later. I have lots of thoughts on why this happened, that I will explain later. Class + Recipes: The recipes we tried were good. It was a class all about learning how to cook with tea. We made Shaoxing Wine Tea-Poached Chicken with Scallion Oil, Sweet Tea-Brined Roast Chicken, Salad Greens with Golden Raisin Vinaigrette, Tea-Poached Eggs, Black Tea Poppy Seed Muffins, Earl Grey Tea Cake with Chopped Chocolate and Tea-Infused Cream Cheese Frosting and Roasted Yukon Potato Wedges with Aioli Sauce. The food tasted good and I appreciated the amount of thought that Chef Cindy Ramsey put into creating them. However, I was severely disappointed with the set-up of the class. I've been to 6 cooking classes at other locations and always was assigned to a specific station where each participant would make each dish and learn new cooking skills. This class was set-up where we were given a 20 minute lecture and then told to wash our hands and disperse to focus on different aspects of the meal. For instance I mixed the aioli sauce, iced the cake and teared lettuce leaves. Though we were told to wash our hands, we didn't wear gloves and this is what I believe caused my husband and I to get sick. Cons: Lack of cleanliness. During the demonstrations sometimes the chef would touch raw ingredients like eggs and chicken and would then touch other ingredients that would not be cooked. This leads to cross contamination and should have been avoided on the chefs behalf. In addition, because 10 different people peeled eggs, and various people touched ingredient components that would not be cooked I believe this also may be the cause of getting sick. As a science nerd let me share that we all have a different skin microbiome. Sometimes people carry more of one bacteria on their skin than others. Also depending on the length and cleanliness of finger nails, this also could cause unwanted bacteria on food that was prepared without being cooked. If these bacteria get into the ingredients, some people can get ill from them. Net: PLEASE HAVE ALL PARTICIPANTS WEAR GLOVES WHEN PREPARING FOOD, ESPECIALLY ITEMS THAT WILL NOT BE COOKED. I feel like the price of the class was not cheap and hopefully could cover the cost of gloves in the future. Based on this experience, I would not come here again and do not recommend it to someone who is looking for a more traditional style cooking class.

Putt putt is a lot of fun and there were plenty of holes. I do thing the holes maybe could have been a little more challenging yet it still was a lot of fun. This one is themed dinosaurs which is pretty fun. They also played some good music in here too. There's a few arcade games but definitely a way to escape the heat if you're looking for something to do for an afternoon with kiddos or even on a date.

This was $150 for two hours, 20 people, two rounds of golf for 10 of them. That's a great deal, considering that's about the price just for the golf, and the kids had a blast. And as a parent, it was pretty fun too. Staff were superb, helping us set up and clean up. Communication was great start to finish; I stopped in to check it out, scheduled online, got a call a week before to finalize, and had great help that day. The place looks small from the outside, and is not huge, but the small party room (there are two and can be combined) was plenty big enough. You can decorate but not with tape or nails, etc. There's a fridge in one of the small rooms, and a rack for food/supplies/presents, plus several tables. The birthday girl gets a lighted button, glow cup, pen, and a ticket for a free game next visit. There are 18 holes, and they were fun, for kids and adults. Everything is lit with blacklights, and there are "chargers" to amp up the ball glow. Disney music was playing, fun for the kids, and tolerable for the rest of us. I saw couples and groups of young adults playing too. They're moving into a bigger place over by the Little Caesar's at Agler and Stygler. Moving during May 2023 so closed, then opening in June. We'll definitely be there.

We shared a number of appetizers and then order our dinners. I thought the food was good but I wasn't overly impressed. Nothing bad. I just wasn't impressed. YE Gurl Says: Restaurant Week Glow-Up at ['plas]…read more Columbus Restaurant Week (January 26-31, 2026) really showed out this year -- and shout out to the restaurants that extended their menus an extra week thanks to the snow and ice. That's community. One standout? ['plas] (pronounced "Place") in Italian Village. I've driven past that converted two-story corner house more times than I can count, always wondering what was happening inside. Restaurant Week finally gave me the excuse to find out. Their $50 three-course dinner felt like a proper introduction. **Course 1 options:** * Filet tartare * Butter-poached Peruvian scallops * Smoked beet carpaccio **Course 2 options:** * Braised lamb * Mushroom risotto * Plant-based short ribs **Course 3:** Dessert, with vegetarian options included. This is chef-driven, Italian-inspired cuisine -- thoughtful plating, balanced flavors, and the kind of menu that makes you slow down and pay attention. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed every course. No filler. No "Restaurant Week lite" portions. Just well-executed dishes. And let's talk about the award-winning faux Negroni. Non-alcoholic, layered, complex -- and so good we ordered two before heading out to our first Wonderball later that night. A proper pre-event move. Now, real life moment: the snow and ice almost changed our plans. The restaurant did a solid job clearing the immediate sidewalk, but stepping over snow piles in heels? Not recommended. I almost learned that lesson the hard way. Parking in Italian Village can be sparse, but the front-of-house team was helpful with suggestions, which made the arrival smoother than expected. YE Gurl says: ['plas] delivers elevated dining without the pretense. Restaurant Week was the perfect entry point, but this spot earned a return visit on its own merit. Cozy setting, thoughtful service, creative plates -- and a zero-proof cocktail worth repeating. Snow, heels, and all... I'll be back.

Pulled up to the Books and Bubbles Book Fair on 4/17 at The Five Party and Event Center in Columbus, OH -- and y'all, it was a whole vibe! The venue was cute, spacious, and had plenty of room for all the amazing local authors showcasing their work -- plus a little game room in the back for some extra fun. (You know I love a well-rounded event!) Highlights: * Met incredible authors like Larry Robertson (wordssavedlives.com), Signe Damron (signe-ture.com), Jordan Burton (theartbyjburt.com), Joseph Doherty (joeydoherty.com), Sylvia Harris (srdharrisbooks.com), and Lachandra Baker (lbbedutainment.com). * Copped two animated kids' books for $25 -- signed directly to my beau's niece, who immediately clutched them like treasures. ("It says my name!" she screamed as her mom got guilt-tripped into reading them...again. ) AND I got a book of poetry from Larry, and will plan to visit Jordan's art exhibit at ROY G BIV before the end at May 2nd! It warmed my heart to recognize faces from the Main Library Literary Fair, the First Annual Poetry Festival, and Zora's House events. Considering my ancestors risked their lives to read, I don't take the beauty of these moments lightly. Major love and respect to everyone keeping the literary flame alive. Final verdict: If you love books, community, and a good glass of bubbly, put this fair on your must-do list next year. See what other events are happening at The Five or create your own event there!
