Really good food, but I waited at my chair for delivery for an HOUR! Food runners at OTG don't give a DARN!

This place is pretty overpriced and inconvenient. They basically have a monopoly on dining in the C Terminal so can they charge high prices for what food that is "just fine." No one can answer a question or help you because they don't know what going on and can just hide behind the ambiguity of OTG. It's a new, "improved" airport dining experience that doesn't actually improving the experience. Rather, it seems like it was just dreamed up by fintech bros to "disrupt eating." Give me an airport McDonalds over this corporate dining nightmare any day. (And yes, I realize the irony in that.) read more

Thought I would stop by the Philly Cheesesteak place on concourse C at the Newark airport. That was a big mistake!! The service was extremely slow and some of the staff was rude as hell. There was a lady that looked like she was the manager but she was staying in the back not really doing anything to help speed up the service. Luckily for me I had a long layover. I had no idea who OTG was until I came home from a trip to Europe and found a transaction on my United Airlines mileage app for -4,000 + - yes that is a negative sign in front of the 4, from the Newark airport. I was absolutely confused and got in touch with UA to figure out this 'charge' labelled OTG Concessions. After putting a few things together I realized that one of the cashless restaurants I visited in my layover used my miles to pay for my food - without asking, advising, nothing. Like, how would they even be able to access my account without my permission? Honestly I had no idea of the monopoly this company has at the EWR airport and their terrible reputation before I started digging. Somehow I got the phone number for customer service, spoke to someone who was going to submit it to 'upper management' and I should expect to hear back via email. I was more than happy to use my credit card to pay for the food, which I thought happened in the first place because I gave the server my card. But for all the trouble now I just want those miles back in my account. Ridiculous practice. Actually it makes me want to avoid the EWR airport all together as the food also sucked. I didn't think the OTG ordering process could get more bizarre but they managed. Now the many iPads at the tables don't even have menus and ordering capability. Not sure what the hell they are there for. Ordering at the terminal C food court required a permanent employee standing in front explaining to people how to order from their phone. Poor tourist from Germany next to me that didn't have cell service was in disbelief that the only way you could order was from Her phone which wasn't possible cuz she didn't have US cell service. OTG is the absolute worst. I Travel all over the country every single week and every airport that OTG has come to has been turned to crap. Newark might be the worst. The food is absolutely horrible. Take a look at the picture that I attached - dry turkey with a piece of lettuce that looks like it was run over by a truck. And the people who work in all of its establishments couldn't care less about what they do. Your self checkout systems could not be operated unless someone is standing there helping you. That's a problem! And your food is so grossly overpriced that it's insulting. And what kind of lunatic designed your restaurants? You put restaurants in the middle of the big hallways so that traffic getting through the airport has been slowed down to a crawl. Everything you touch turns to crap. Airports are chaotic and unfriendly but there is an outstanding employee named Von at the Reagan Airport that goes beyond the normal expectations of his job. He was charming, helpful and has customer service skills that far exceed his job title. How he manages to make the customer experience enjoyment and laughter in an atmosphere where everyone is in an angry hurry is not a attribute that can be taught. You're born with it. Ordered Pad Thai w/ beef at the OTG "Global" area in Newark Terminal C -- most of the positive rating is for volume. Even at somewhat inflated airport prices, you never know what to expect. Surprise -- lots of noodles! Didn't exactly taste like what I expected -- was a bit spicy -- but still good ... and filling. Drawbacks -- (1) I ordered from a computer monitor right in front of the restaurant cooking area, but didn't see anyone at that shop until they brought my food out a bit later than expected. Because it took a while and I had no idea if food was actually prepared or not, I was on the verge of walking away and just reporting the operation as credit card fraud to my credit card company. Anyway, just in time. (2) While waiting for food, at the other different restaurants lined up next to my vacant restaurant, some workers started calling very loudly at each other about who was working and who was lazy. There is clearly discontent about who pulls most of the load, and those who don't pull their load openly disrespect the ideas of accountability and teamwork by loudly mocking the effort of those who do. When I have to conform to all sorts of stress-inducing federal government rules because I am under threat of being accused of terroristic activity just for accidentally carrying a water bottle through security, people yelling accusations at each other in an airport situation revs up my sense of insecurity. What else should I be looking for in this airport that is not quite right? How many things might add up, creating a messy situation that is greater than the sum of its parts? This also contributed to my motivation (which I fortunately did not act on) to walk away and report the transaction as credit card fraud ... because I was unsure how food would turn out if it ever showed up based on group dynamics among the workers at the neighboring restaurants in that food court. How can so many people have worked on this and not realize it was a disaster? And why has Newark not removed OTG yet? I keep picturing management dressed in suits seated at a meeting table, looking at a picture of an airport full of tablets, silently nodding at the prospect of cutting costs and bringing a full interactive experience. A dystopian experience in which the glittering design is meant to distract from how you will never be comfortable. The high point was around 4 a.m., when many of us, in a zombie-like shambolic rush of insight, realized that the bottled water in the Bazaar is available on a self-checkout basis. Also, there are a ton of outlets for charging your devices. The exciting dining options are pretty much a sham, as they average two stars and charge prices so high that even Manhattanites emit tiny gasps of horror before going "well, airport, waddaya want?" IPad ordering doesn't itself bother me, though. The sheer number and variety of ways it's possible to make seating painful is impressive, if perverse. If you're tall enough that flying is dubiously comfortable, think of a few hours in Newark Terminal C as pre-gaming your appointment with pain. First at all the restaurant I walked in today had rodents, and roaches running through the glass vitrine. The neighbor lady I set with at the bar saw it too, and throw up. Running to the bathroom the bar man asked me what's wrong with her? I pointed with my finger, and he realized. He's response was,don't worry they are here every day, they are like family. Food delivery is slow, nobody can help you because they don't know what's going on, eating area is dirty because an iPad can't see that there's garbage under your chair. The OTG concept left me incredibly disappointed. Ordered a bagel, on screen prompts did not suggest it should be toasted. Payment is separate from ordering, staffing was inadequate. Bagel itself was doughy. All breakfast options were chaos, with no clear indication of where to order / what to do. And as I type this review, the iPad in front of me is continually resetting and prompting me for my boarding pass, and has taken a photo of me that has popped up occasionally on screen. I wish there is a zero star. This is the most horrible idea that ever happened to airports and it may take time for it to fail but it WILL fail. No wonder they shove the service down your throat by buying an ENTIRE terminal so you wouldn't have another choice. They also occupy even the boarding area for each flight so we people don't have a place to sit. Most people prefer talking to a bartender rather than dealing with an iPad. I personally go there ONLY when there is no where else to go and I believe that's why they occupy an entire terminal. Unfortunately, I travel weekly through IAH terminal C and EWR terminal C and both are occupied by OTG. The food quality is awful, the waiting is long, and bartenders/waiters do NOT give a damn because they get their tip anyway. The last incident on Sunday afternoon at EWR when I ordered a $25 salad (After adding tax, tip, and a bagel). After 40 minutes, my food didn't make it and I had to board my plane (I obviously paid upfront as you might expect). No one even bother to check on my food but they just simply said "it's not ready". I had to make a choice and I obviously chose not to miss my flight (40 minutes for a salad???). From now on, I would rather starve (or buy food on the plane) that sit at ANY OTG restaurant. read more

The OTG Experience.... Pancakes. All I wanted was some delicious pancakes. Upon entering Newark airport on Friday, September 1st, I felt my stomach grumbling. This wasn't the sort of 'let me wait after my two hour flight to spare myself airport food & prices' sort of grumble, rather a 'if I don't eat I'm going to eat my neighbors leg while they sleep' sort of hunger. To my distain there wasn't the easy option: McDonalds so I made my way through the terminal in search of something decent to eat. Mid way through the terminal I happened upon a nice woman who must have sniffed my desperation shouted "you want some breakfast hunny?!" My head shot sideways and I walked toward the bubbly cafeteria. I knew this must be it. The answer to all my problems. I saw breakfast sandwich options, ramen, eggs, and even.... pancakes. As a 26 year old male living in New York, pancakes are a rare treat. They are the sort of breakfast you only crave (but rarely order) when you're hungover or... in an airport. The idea of the sweet fluffy confection slathered in butter and syrup literally made my hunger insatiable and my mouth water. Nothing in the whole world sounded better. I was literally excited. I scurried up to the front of the short line and put my order into the kiosk. I quickly realized I made a poor decision. Out of the back I looked up to find an evidentially miserable, worn out, and slow moving person (whom I will not describe further for fear she'll lose her job) cooking the 'cakes. When you order pancakes, it would be nice if the person cooking them hit the same notes that a plate of pancakes is meant to hit, inducing the same feeling those pancakes should induce in the individual who ordered. Imagine Willy Wonka toned down a few notches. That is the person who should be cooking the pancakes and this woman should have been mopping the floor. She cooked the pancakes with such little care and energy. I knew what I was about to receive would be dry, crusty, and nasty. As I awaited my demise... for 20 min (there were only 4 other people who ordered before me)... I turned through the copy of vogue sitting on the counter. When I finally received my 3 pancakes (aka 2 deformed mounds and 1 that had been sitting on the grill from before I placed my order) I was unsurprised to find that they tasted like: crusty and flavorless $H*T. Do not attempt the OTG experience. Do not give into that nice lady shouting across the terminal. Once you get through your 'experience' you'll realize It's all a facade, and it's just another $h1tty airport meal and you should've starved yourself or stuck with McDonalds (in Terminal B or A) PS the sausage was good... but all they had to do what heat that up. read more

Wow I was so excited for tsukiji sushi in the market but so damn disappointed !! This sushi is worse than any grocery store sushi I've ever had. The rice was dried out and extreme hard. The sushi was still FROZEN!!!!! They were still crystalized !!!!!! What the hell?!?!??!?? This is absolute garbage! It gives Tsukiji fish market a terrible name. This impersonal dining experience has made flying so much worse. There is nothing more annoying than sitting waiting for food or drinks to show up while watching servers stand around gossiping because the iPad order has not printed yet. So instead of getting personalized service, you now get inattentive rude servers that do care what your experience is. Also the overpriced check automatically closes while adding a tip without the customers consent. I dispute the tip every single time, because I never get service. Bring back the way service should be, and let the rude people stay with the TSA. read more

If I could I would leave 0 stars. At Newark airport at 9am. Went to the bagel shop in terminal C. Had to order on line on the worst system I have ever used. It kept cancelling my everything bagel order. Finally after 5 minutes they only had onion bagels. Amazing at 9 am. It then took 25 minutes to get my order in an empty shop. The shop was empty because of the lack of bagels and service. When will Port Authority get smart and throw these bums out. read more

First of all the food options look great! Wish I could try them....but I won't and neither should you. From a hygiene perspective you should under no circumstances touch those iPads. I have watched people walk out of bathrooms and go straight to these devices. I have never seen on cleaned....even after an 8 hour lay over. All the condition for an epidemic are present at these restaurants....hundreds of people touching them, a warm environment due to charging, and food substances always around. I'm waiting for a news Network to do a special on these. Once you see a test of what is living on one of these devices you will want to run to the hill. We were changing planes in Philadelphia and Rahim Essahli,the General Manager of the OTG location there, helped us understand ordering and spent quite a bit of time with these weary travelers. The "OTG experience" is best avoided. OTG is the bad experience that has spread like a slime all over terminal C. It's overpriced, impersonal, and assumes this is the only thing you could possibly want. The inspiration for OTG was seeing an airport full of tired passengers grounded in the terminal overnight due to severe weather -- hello little sheep The CEO used to run night-clubs but probably decided passengers were a better thing you could hold captive, overcharge, and they'd just have to take it. The interior design is fun to see, but that's it. Plan to order from an iPad, over tip, or overpay for re-imagined concepts in food service. Let look at basic brewed coffee from OTG. It's $3.25, 'did you want cream and sugar?', that's an upgrade to the "New Yorker coffee" which is coffee with cream/sugar, but now $3.95. That's a 21% up charge from a basic question. I don't think Dunkin Donuts does that. Coffee may not be your thing, perhaps a beer. A great photo on the iPad, with a pint. Pay and tip first. Then wait for it, a 12 ounce bottle (that's 25% less than the 16 ounce pint) is what you get. The slipshod practices sneak in all over, getting screwed just 18% here and 25% there and suddenly you feel like you've been used. The virtual monopoly over Terminal C at EWR is the problem, you can't vote elsewhere with your consumer dollars. Don't let the variety of restaurants riddled with iPads fool you or think CIBO's "market fresh" prepackaged fare will offer a much cheaper alternative. United Airlines, if you have any say in this, which you do, bring in other competing businesses to your Terminal C. For now, Dunkin Donuts, Wendys, and Garden State Diner were the non-OTG places I could find. Try them, bring in outside food, or eat before you get here. Terrible. I didn't realize until today because I don't usually fly out of EWR but terminal C has been completely taken over by this company. The restaurants all have faux-foodie marketing, but don't be fooled. All the places basically serve the same food, just packaged in different ways with different bougie-sounding names (but it's all the same). And it is INSANELY overpriced, even for an airport. The worst part is the illusion of choice but lack of any, as you walk on and on and on trying to find and alternative. Even the convenience stores and newsstands are owned by this company. But it's cool, you can order chapstick at your restaurant table from one of the newsstands from a tacky and grotesque iPad serving up ads and other dreck. The omnipresence of OTG and inescapability of it instills a sense of hopelessness, but it also is empowering because it makes you determined to find something else or simply bring your own food. If you're lucky, after walking thousands of steps, you may have enough time to be able to walk to the Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, or Wendy's. And you'll appreciate these brands like they're local, independently-owned mom and pop joints. read more

OTG, this is not the airport of the future. This is impersonal and artificial. Sure it looks great in promo photos, but the actual experience of sitting on a fake porch that is supposed to resemble an outdoor eating experience in France while having iPads cover the table is just... such a hit and miss. It could have been so good if you created a space for people to co-exist and maybe converse if they wanted, rather than design an experience that pushes you to be cut-off from any interaction while trying to make it look super trendy and awesome. Everything is ordered on a iPad (I think all restaurants here are like that), nothing was less than $15. I got a fried chicken sandwich which was actually pretty good. But I wanted a water and just watched the bartender, waitress, whatever she was drink her Starbucks, talk to coworkers, and flirt with the cook. She never said a word to me or made eye contact. I saw a few orders done and sitting on the shelf, waiting for her to bring them to the tables. I saw mine come up, she still was yapping away, and I eventually flagged her down and told her I see my food sitting there and asked for a water. She didn't say a word but got my food, slammed it down, gave me a water, and walked away. Worst airport food experience ever. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTs! I'll never be back. Long lines, mediocre cold food, a system to reduce overhead without any people. The AC didn't work, hot sh1tty experience. All this with blasting music. I hadn't flown through Terminal C recently, so walking around I was a little mystified at the ipads and tables at each gate as opposed to the expected rows of chairs. And each seat had power at it- nice touch. Pretty much all the restaurant food is through the ipad, and can be delivered to whichever seat you ordered it from. The food is on the pricey side- about 25% more than you would usually expect to the pay. I went with a Cuban sandwich and fries, along with an overpriced ice tea. I wasn't expecting an actual Cuban, trust me, I know better. But before flying a lot of the menu options just didn't seem appealing. It was OK at best- fries were a little under-cooked and way under-seasoned, and the sandwich itself I didn't actually end up finishing. It was just plain bland. Its not clear what you do with your plate afterwards either- most people seemed to just leave it there, I took it over to a nearby trashcan. Overall its better than some of the other terminals, but its still mediocre airport food. read more
