Hey yall! I got a $55 plane ticket from Vegas To Orlando FL To islip NY airport which is in Long Island (2hrs away) from NY NY, so I went with it. We finally landed here right before they closed at 9pm. I decided to take the BUS from the airport which was free because I asked. I'm now headed to the train station to go into the inner city and sight see before I get on my final bus ride into BMORE. Whew! Travel is a beast! Would I fly into this airport again? I don't usually fly out of MacArthur Islip Airport, but I thought it would be convenient for a trip to North Carolina. Unfortunately, our Avelo flight was delayed three times. TSA staff seemed irritated and were saying they were closing in 10 minutes, even though the flight wasn't scheduled to depart for another two hours. It felt rushed and a bit unnecessary. Overall, the experience was okay. I wouldn't say I'll frequently fly out of here, but I would consider it again if it's the most convenient and affordable option. read more

Located on the East end of Long Island in Suffolk County, this is a great alternative to JFK & LaGuardia Airports. Traffic in and out is a Breeze. It's a smaller airport so it is less chaotic. We got there early but we're thru TSA fairly quickly. Everyone was friendly, no issues on that part. Just caught some attitude from the ticket counter agent when we went to ask for our boarding pass. She asked us why we did not have them on our phone. And then acted as if we had inconvenienced her, took her about 15 seconds to print them out! Airport 5 stars, Breeze Airline 4 stars thanks to her. Overall would definitely use this route again, and it saved us a lot of money. read more

The warmth of hometown travel: ISP still has my heart! As a kid and teen, I only ever flew Southwest out of MacArthur. Then I stopped flying for years until recently, when I started traveling again and realized how much pricier ISP flights had become. To save money, I began flying out of JFK with Delta and AA (I even got a Delta SkyMiles card!). This weekend, I finally found an affordable flight out of ISP for a wedding in Michigan and the whole experience reminded me why I used to love flying from here so much. I was just happy to avoid the long drive from eastern Long Island, but what I got was so much more. From start to finish, the experience was so kind, so human, it honestly brought me close to tears. I arrived just under an hour before my 5:55 a.m. flight (since ISP is smaller, you don't need to get there super early) and every single staff member (even at 5 a.m.!) was warm, patient, and genuinely friendly. When I realized my enhanced license wasn't in my wallet, security was understanding and professional, taking a few extra steps to verify my ID without causing any delay. Even the gate agent was amazing, and the flight attendants were top-tier. And the best part? When we landed, people clapped! I hadn't heard that in so long. On recent flights, I'd been the only one clapping, but this time someone started it and a handful of us joined in. It felt nostalgic, joyful, and so perfectly "Long Island." This experience reminded me that while ISP flights can sometimes cost a bit more, the convenience, kindness, and calm atmosphere make it absolutely worth every penny. read more

I've flown to New York many times and this was my first time flying into Long Island MacArthur Airport. My business associates at Brookhaven National Laboratory recommended I fly into this smaller airport due to it's close proximity to the Lab. I was advised of potential traffic congestion (two plus hour commute) if I were to fly into New York City. Although getting here from California requires a Redeye flight to arrive midday, it's worth the extra time due to peace of mind knowing the airport is within a 20 minute drive from my hotel. The best impression I had was that the vehicle rentals office was only a stones throw away. I didn't have to take a tram or bus ride to get there like most major airports. Here we go, I love this airport. It's local ,easy to get to. Located East of Long Island near Long Island Expressway. Getting through checkpoint to the gate is simple.and easy. In my opinion give yourself at least an hour or so. This airport is much smaller than JFk or Laguardia airport. I think this airport need to expand a bit with more airlines flying out to multiple locations. Storefronts are great . There are the basics of course Starbucks among other small stores to buy last minute travels snacks, etc. Rent a car service is very convenient. They just need more representatives to assist with renting and prepping cars, trucks. The minus with this airport is because it's a smaller airport the flights are much more expensive. I flew to Orlando this past weekend for my cousin's birthday dinner and caught a flight from MacArthur Airport for the first time. What an incredible experience it was! With all the comotion with flying lately I was surprised to see just how easy and chill at was at ISP. From walking it to sitting down at my gate took all of 15 minutes. It's so cool to see my favorite airline, Jetblue, departing from there. I also loved that they have pre-check via my Global Entry, even though it wasn't even needed when I flew. What I loved even more was all the Long Island memorabilia adorning the walls, making the airport feel quite nostalgic, neighborly and welcoming. Cute little airport with only about 10 gates. Breeze flies from Charleston here direct. They have about three restaurants to choose from and two new stands. Tons of seating and it is a very clean airport. My only gripe is that they have no transportation from the airport to the LIRR or the jitney stops off the LIE. read more

My wife and I flew Breeze nonstop to Norfolk (ORF). This is a small quaint airport that is fairly easy to navigate. We arrived here at 4:30pm the day after New Year's and there was hardly anyone here. There was minimal traffic when we got dropped off and we got through TSA in 5 minutes (we have TSA precheck). There is a mini food court with a couple of food options. The airport was clean as well. There's also multiple affordable options for hotels nearby and this hotel is close to Ronkonkoma station which we used to commute into NYC. We'll definitely be using this airport again! read more

Long Island is a beautiful island but it's very difficult to get around transportation wise. So they have the MacArthur Ipsy airport. It is somewhat in the middle of the island but still an hour away from the fork of the island where you have Montauk & the Hamptons and Greenport on the other fork. So you either spend close to a hundred bucks to Uber/Lyft, or they have a taxi service for around $180-$200 one way!! No lie! Or you can take the bus into the city but it takes around 3-3 1/2 hours to get to the fork. The other option is to rent a car and if you've ever been to Long Island for the 4th of July, you're going to pay premium price! MacArthur is a very small airport. Very clean, very sterile looking, no frills, nothing exciting at this airport. They do have a big rental office for 5-6 different rental companies a few steps away from the airport... Again, the transportation in Long Island is expensive or inconvenient so bear that in mind when traveling to Long Island... read more

I love Islip! It is so convient and even though it doesn't have many direct flights (other than Orlando and Baltimore) You can get to most major cities if you don't mind transferring. For me living WAY on East End Long Island, transferring planes to get where I need to go out of Islip is worth saving the headache of having to drive to JFK or LGA - not to mention truly needing to arrive 2 hours or at least 90 minutes early because of long line and just the madness of navigating the various terminals. Islip has one releativly small terminal and its a breeze to get through TSA. I've flown various times of the day and never waited more than 20 minutes in security (and that was during holiday travel) If you have TSA pre its even quicker (not that you need it for Islip) but you don't have to take anything off and can practically walk right through. I had a 4:30 flight this afternoon and arrived to the airport at 3:45 and had time to go to the rest room, grab a coffee at Dunkin and still make it to my gate in time to board with my group (Southwest). Note: I am a solo travel and have timing down to a science, if you are traveling with children or are a slow walker I would not cut it as close as I do. For this airport, I suggest as a general rule, arriving 75 minutes before your plane departure, add 15 minutes to this if you care about boarding with your group, particularly on South West. Addd another 15-20 minutes on particularly busy times of year (really just Christmas and Thanksgiving), it never really gets THAT crowded and the buffer is more about peace of mind then actual need. Unfortunately, what you do have are very limited flights which means if they're canceled or delayed you're screwed, unless you want to hoof it over to JFK or LGA which almost negates the wisdom of MacArthur to begin with. I saw someone mention that this airport has no rude workers like JFK. Well, I think this one girl Emily caught the nasty bug because her snappy attitude wasn't called for at 6 am. I simply stated that my bag wasn't a problem when coming to visit NY and her reply was nasty. I've seen how these interviews go for working with an airline. How did she land the job? She knew she was nasty because she didn't even make eye contact with me. I had a flight scheduled for 9:51pm, that day the flight was delayed until 12:35am the next morning due to weather. The delays happened early in the day. I arrived at the airport for my flight around 11pm and security was closed, everyone from TSA had left. Because there was nobody running security nobody was allowed to get on the flight after that point. I was told I had to have to been there at my original flight time. I understand people have to go home at some point but there needs to be some kind of work around for situations like this. If the airport is aware a flight is going to be delayed that long, and customers have been informed in advance it is reasonable to expect that people will wait to arrive at the airport. It was a real nightmare to arrive there with what me and many others thought was plenty of time, and then have to scramble to rebook in order to get to the destination. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else in the future. With all the construction going on at this airport the least they could do is hire some more employees in case a flight is pushed back. read more

Although this airport seems small, I love how clean it always is and it is perfect to fly into when coming into Long Island. I have been using MacArthur these past months traveling back and forth to Long Island and it couldn't be an easier experience for me. I have used LGA and JFK but when coming in from Orlando through Frontier I'd recommend MacArthur so you won't need to wait on long lines. Very easy process. read more

The car rentals are now in a separate building about 1/4 mile away. Ok on a beautiful day if you're healthy. I have painful health problems and needed to return my car in a severe storm. I was soaking wet after returning the car and now needed to walk very slowly in the pouring rain and many deep puddles with my luggage to get inside the airport. Dropping off one of my best friends for his snowbird return to sunny Florida... worried slightly about the crowds during Covid... no need.. If Long Island is your destination or home, ISP is a hidden gem! It's a small airport with friendly staff at convenient location. I haven't experienced any long lines nor cranky employees. However they only have the basics! Don't expect luxury or variety. It would be nice if more airlines serviced this airport which for me personally is a drawback as I travel internationally a lot. Travel to this airport in Long Island to drop off my sister for her domestic flight. Distance wise it is further away than the two other major airports in the city. This airport is small, so finding gates and terminals are all within a short range. Airport itself is kept clean with plenty of benches to sit and wait. There aren't many food court areas, best bet is the newsstand that sells some snacks. Parking lots are huge and the parking rates was decent. Overall, good airport for domestic flights read more

The airport is one of the smallest and alternative airports to use instead of LGA and JFK. It seems that only 3 airlines are being serviced Frontier, Southwest and American. To get or leave the airport the best way would be taking the LIRR to Ronkonkoma and than take the $5 per person shuttle to and from airport. Check in seems and TSA lines run pretty quick. read more

It's a small airport, served by Southwest, Frontier, American, and possibly some small commuter airlines. However, security is quick, there aren't a lot of crowds, and they have a shuttle to the LIRR. If your destination is on LI or even if you're going into the city and don't mind taking the train in, this could be the airport for you! There are a few restaurants (Irish pub type place, bar with small plates), a Starbucks, and a CNBC News store to occupy yourself before your flight. Most are post security. Lots of charging points around the gates, and plenty of bathrooms. The drop off/pick up area outside is well done and wasn't busy on the weekend when I was flying. I'd fly there again if I was going to Long Island itself. If I was traveling to NYC then you may have more options flying into JKF or LGA. Southwest flies from Baltimore and it's about an hour flight. Not sure how much traffic from major cities comes here, so that it why I took off a star. read more
