Essentially its hours now are Thursday-Sunday 3-6 pm. Even if the door is locked, just knock and the shopkeeper will let you in. - The owner (Sylvia) is going to start transitioning the clothes to the spring season... coming in a couple of weeks or so! - On that note, the shop's strong suit are the accessories -- lots of nice cocktail hats/handbags/jewelry. Examine closely, because pretty much everything in there's for sale. - Starting next week she's going to start making prices static. Yeah, no more haggling, but at least it will be a lot less pressure for those who are uncomfortable with negotiating. In conjunction, some of the prices of the clothing will be adjusted... so maybe that amazing paillette jacket will be cheaper now? Also, I've learned something recently, having become acquainted with the owner. Y'know how it might be kind of intimidating/irritating when the shopkeeper tries to talk to you/make comments about what you're browsing? Well, I always found it that way. All in all, it's just the keeper trying to be friendly, not necessarily trying to pressure you into buying something. Ain't nothin' wrong with trying to be nice.

The prices are to die for, especially in DC where most vintage or thrift stores are anything but thrifty. The shop owner, Sylvia, is such a sweet lady. She gave me a great deal on some amazing pieces I would have easily paid double for and still would have walked out thinking I got a good price. Needless to say I will be going back again and again and will do my best to spread the word about this lovely little gem. I am almost a bit hesitant to share this with too many of my friends, as I want to make sure I get all the goodies, but there seemed to be plenty to go around and the shop owner is just too nice and lovely to not help support. When I first started consigning, I was told that if there was something I *really* didn't want donated, I could let them know. If they decided not to sell that item, I was obligated to come back immediately to get it. I thought that was a nice thing to do, especially since it creates good will with their consigners. One of the last times that I consigned, I explained to the shop-person that there was a piece I wanted to hold onto if they didn't want to sell it, and I was given some eyerolls and told that this is not something Secondi does. They did complete a quick assessment for me, which I appreciated, but the attitude around it made me feel very uncomfortable. It might be helpful if all the shop folks were on the same page about guidelines! Otherwise, Secondi has been around since I was in high school (and probably even before that), so it's a real DC institution. It's one of the most well known consignment shops in DC, and I do think they do a great job curating their wares and they do not sell mass-market/lower quality items.

Thr6 have all kinds of stuff, most of the things are hand-made and originate from various countries. There are also several hundred unique orientak rugs which I wanted to check-out more. There is definitely a Persian flare just based on the otomans and many more statues that appear to orinate from Egypt. I bought a hippie stule wind chine for my apartment and it's very cool. There are two levels however I didn't venture up tonthe 2nd level. I would definitely encourage people to come and check it out. Beware of the cats while you're walking around inside.

They've got one of the best hip-hop selections I've ever seen -- not just random 12" records, but some classic golden era LPs too (and all reasonably priced). I never really figured out the organization while I was here. They use size tags, but I think it's to split up section, not actual sizes? Or they do use them for sizes but items were very misplaced... The low lighting also made it difficult to look at the items sometimes. However, the prices were great, they have a wide variety of items, and I liked that there were changing rooms there. They do have a bathroom but it was out of service while I was there.

This store has the perfect location next to Hana Market on 17th St, a little slice of Japan in the District. I walked by and immediately felt welcomed by the proprietors as I explored the small shop. They have a varied collection of beautiful handcrafted ceramics (plates, bowls, cups, chopstick holders) as well as some lovely kimonos and textiles. Having recently spent a long layover in the Narita airport I am impressed by the reasonable prices at this shop. Everything is sourced directly from Japan and the owners are planning to have a rotating collection as well as hold workshops.
