I've had mixed experiences as a consigner here--I'd say probably 80% neutral to good. Overall, I bring clothes that I think are excellent quality/good brands, but understand that Secondi might just donate them outright. When I first started consigning, I was told that if there was something I *really* didn't want donated, I could let them know. If they decided not to sell that item, I was obligated to come back immediately to get it. I thought that was a nice thing to do, especially since it creates good will with their consigners. One of the last times that I consigned, I explained to the shop-person that there was a piece I wanted to hold onto if they didn't want to sell it, and I was given some eyerolls and told that this is not something Secondi does. They did complete a quick assessment for me, which I appreciated, but the attitude around it made me feel very uncomfortable. It might be helpful if all the shop folks were on the same page about guidelines! Otherwise, Secondi has been around since I was in high school (and probably even before that), so it's a real DC institution. It's one of the most well known consignment shops in DC, and I do think they do a great job curating their wares and they do not sell mass-market/lower quality items. read more

Was looking for a good consignment store in DC and was not disappointed. The prices are what you would expect, but the pieces are one of a kind so I believe they are sold at a decent cost. The customer service was great and everyone who works there is kind and open to answering questions. I came back the next day for a pair of shoes I put on hold and had another great experience. I've been a loyal patron for approximately 25 years. Today I arrived excitedly with my 17 year old daughter to look for a prom dress. As we came up stairs we were greeted cheerfully by a sales lady and I loved that. We were having trouble figuring out the front of the dress and I asked one of the sales ladies for help (a young African American woman with straight hair/bangs and a beret.) She was very rude and short with me while explaining how the dress is worn and yelled at me 4 times asking me the whereabouts of the hanger. Mind you, my daughter was still in the changing room because she was waiting for me the bring back the dress for her to try on, correctly. Of course, the hanger was back in the changing room, where it was supposed to be! After that bad experience, I put the dress on hold with another sales lady (Annie, who demonstrated excellent customer service.) We ended up purchasing another dress from Anthropology that cost $200 more. I was saddened by experience with the rude sales lady, I recalled bringing my daughter to the store when she was little more than a toddler, and the owner and sales ladies were ALL so nice. Too bad our experience today, shopping for my daughter's prom, was spoiled by one bad apple! read more

This is a "luxury" thrift shop so you're not going to find $5 shirts or $10 dollar handbags, but the prices are more than fair and everything is in really excellent condition. The store isn't huge but the selection is good and well organized. I went in particularly to browse handbags and I saw Prada, Gucci, and Hermes among others. As a plus size person, I have found most consignment stores to be catered to smaller people - but there were tons of great pieces for me to try on at Secondi! They have an interesting price strategy - each month the prices drop a good bit. This incentivizes coming back in to see what is still available and what's on sale! Secondi is a great place to shop. Unfortunately not good to consign. Several friends have voiced concerns. Expensive items are "donated" immediately if dropped off or mailed in. Many of the staff have been there too long and feel entitled. Good loyal customers are insulted and are going elsewhere. The owner is rarely there to see what's going on. eh... this place seems to cater more towards the older conservative woman who wants to feel like they are buying something vintage and chic, but can't tell that they are really just buying overpriced throw aways from warehouse/sample sales and second hand donations. I literally seen a Walmart sweater in there for $35 and a Jcrew jacket listed for $130.... It's not worth it in here. Prices are way too inflated for the material available. Average pricing were set between $200-450. I feel you would be better off just heading to the big retail store and buying new. read more

I come to DC once a year for a conference. Last year or shopped at Secondi with no issue bought a purse. This year I browsed and decided to purchase a small bracelet. It was $15.00. I opted to scan my credit card, and the cashier, a late 30' s early 40s woman asked to see my ID before I scanned. Puzzled, I showed her my ID. I felt somewhat humiliated. But continued with my purchase nonetheless and walked out. My colleague who was with me, and non-black, said to me" I thought that you were being discriminated against! Who asks for an ID for a $15 purchase, and seeing as though you still put in your pin when you scanned your card"? And then she grabbed your card to compare the the ID ???? She continued .."we go 7-Eleven and all these fast food places around here and it comes out to more than $15 and they never ask for ID cards because you scan and enter your pin. What was her problem? ". She said if you call and tell them, they will say " we ask for ID for everyone! The bank doesn't even ask for ID if you have entered your pin after scanning your card for withdraws less than 100. 00??? This shop needs to realize the people you hire , or have at the counter and interact with customers represent your business. I will never go there again!! read more

This store does not cater to women of size at all. We called in advance to ask if they had plus sizes and they said yes so we drove in from va. (We did have another event in dc that night). I been to this store on several occasions. Writing this after getting a a long searched coat for years but finally found it. The store stocks their offerings by seasons. Is not your average thrift and vintage store as most of the items are from high-end and mid-tier brands. The plus size offering from high-end is limited in contrast to the much smaller sizes but they carry some beautiful pieces. For shoes, the ones found here are in excellentshape for a second hand. I suggest visiting during the week as it is less crowded but still worth it. In terms of handbags, they several vintage pieces that are worth checking it out. To the point you can appreciate it's craftmanship comparison to today's designer bags. I highly recommend it and worth checking out. read more

A wonderful consignment store with a huge selection. Beautiful location. Corner windows. They have well placed, inviting sofas and coffee table for when you are tired from shopping too. They only open until 6 pm, but are pretty friendly. We were greeted when we walked in. Pretty good selection of heels too (by consignment store standards). They've got high end stuff. Really cute dress, tops and so on. All brand names. Highly recommended. Their fitting rooms are nicely and warmly decorated. Very cozy. I have never been to the store but follow them on Facebook. I enjoy looking at the clothes and accessories they group together to post. Whoever does their posting is quite talented at putting interesting and unique items together. I wish I could wear some of the really cute things but there is not much in larger sizes. I have purchased two purses and some earrings through Facebook. In fact, I am wearing my Tori Burch earrings as I write this review. I LOVE everything I have gotten. If you are interested in an item, you can PM them to express interest. Someone usually responds within 24 hours. I like that they put the item in a private listing for you with additional pictures so you can make a decision. You have 24 hours to decide if you want the item. If interested in purchasing, it is easy to do. When I ordered, I received a confirmation email and a notification of shipping. Since I live relatively close to DC, I usually get the items in a couple of days. The items arrive wrapped in tissue to prevent any damage in shipping. Someone always writes a hand-written thank you on the invoice. Overall, I have been very pleased with what I have ordered and my interactions with the store. I will continue to follow in Facebook. When I go shopping, I love to look and look and look through racks of clothes. Secondi is always a nice place to shop for closet eye candy. A bit busy on the weekends, but that's to be expected. I find their prices for the most part reasonable. Occasionally you'll find new items for sale too - I picked up a new pair of black cashmere gloves for less than $20. The prices are on a tiered system based on how long the item has been there. Simply look at the tag on the item, and it will tell you what the price will be after such and such date. I was waffling on a pair of Sam Edelman shoes, and I lucked out as they were there the next week and I got them for less (I paid about $30 for them). You'll find all sorts of labels here - from Anne Taylor all the way up to DVF, Chanel, etc. It's a nice range of clothes and accessories (hats, gloves, bags, shoes, scarves, belts, sunglasses, and jewelry). They use a careful eye when selecting pieces and I love that they donate my pieces to the local community for items that they either don't consign or do not sell after the regular consigning period. In my experience, their pricing is more appropriate than other local consignment shops that I've tried. I shop Secondi for quality staples, unique occasion pieces that will not get a lot of wear, and work wear. There are a couple women that work in the shop regularly and a staff of rotational employees. I've always had positive experiences with the employees. This review is being written about the customer service I received when I had an appointment to consign some High-end Vintage; and let me repeat that - consign some High-end Vintage. But first - and there's always a "BUT" - if Secondi advertise "Vintage & Consignment" that is truly not the case when it came to my appointment. I arrived early because I was fortunate to have found street parking directly across the street. Anyway, I had about 6-7 vintage items; and let me just name a few: Vintage 2PC Saks Fifth Ave Fur-collar crop blazer w/a matching skirt; 2PC Adolfo Knit Jacket & Skirt; a pair of Lavin pant w/sewn cuffs; and a beautiful Wool Black Dress w/white threading detail - I hope you got a visual based on my minimal description. While waiting for my appt. I browsed around looking at the clothes and accessories. There was some designer high-end; as well as some common brand/store labels. Their shoe selection can be a hit or miss and in my opinion, the shoe selection is very second hand but it depends what you're looking for; or rather what you might find. And in my case while waiting for my appointment I found a pair of Donald J PLiner Suede Boots - never worn; and under $50 - oh yeah. Now I'm in the business of selling/consigning vintage and I know a vintage name/label when I see it - 80% of time; and while sifting/sorting through the clothes racks I spotted a few vintage pieces. And the clothes looked very vintage; and very worn and dated! So my appointment to consign was at hand and the woman that went through my clothes advised me that what I had wasn't suitable for Secondi. However, in an indirect way, but - and there's always a BUT - she said "well we don't accept any vintage; and on top of that she said "the black dress (the one I briefly described above) is beautiful but "DC doesn't have the climate for that dress." What in the hell does that mean; and yet they have a rack full of large, long and mid-length black wool coats; a full-length fur coat on a mannequin advertised right in front of the counter. Then she went on to say, "people aren't wearing heavy coats anymore but rather the smaller/lighter puffy jacket" - excuse me if I'm describing it wrong. I couldn't believe the crazy stuff this women was telling me about clothes and DC's climate; I thought to myself when did you all of a sudden become a trend setter and a weather predictor all at once. And on top of that she was dressed like she was at home tuned in to the Lassie show; and you're telling me about clothes - ok, so I'm venting just a bit. But please don't insult my intelligence when it comes to Vintage. I wanted to fight that lady; wrestle her down to the floor and change her outfit. But, and there's always a but, I was able to consign one (1) piece; a beautiful Charcoal Grey Wool Wrap dress w/a side tie. Probably the vintage dress that birthed DVF's first wrap dress - you never know. So ladies (or gents) if you go to Secondi, you'll find that designer piece; trending or otherwise, but if you're looking for vintage and something unique to your style personality - not so much; instead hit me up at @Nasuslorac. In my continued quest of my self-makeover, I have discovered something. I had some good news-- I am losing weight gradually after the birth of my son. I have some selfish news- I am not the size I want to be, so I refuse to buy any pants until I am. But, not paying full price for said pants? Now, that changes my tune, quickly. Secondi is is a consignment store located in a sunny corner of a building on Connecticut and R. The window is always filled with mannequins dressed to the nines, so it makes it even more difficult not to go in and check it out. Unlike most consignment stores I have visited recently, the stuff here isn't vintage. It may be as old as "last season" or in some cases last year, but most of the clothes here are staples (black pants and skirts) or trends that I don't necessarily want to pay top dollar for. $45 for a pucci top? I went to visit this place for the first time and had a frustrating experience. First off, I drove there all the way from NVA in rush hour traffic, about a 52 minute drive out of my way, to check out a purse I called about the day prior. Mind you I skirted work and did an early day care run to make it happen. The owner was late arriving for an 11am opening and there was a small group of people, including 2 of her employees standing outside in 30 degree weather waiting for her to arrive. We waited for about 7-10 minutes so not a huge deal. I'd even be willing to overlook it if the rest of the experience was ok...things happen. When I called about the bag the day before the sales person gave me so much mis-information so take heed, I'm not trusting what they say there. I called about a Chloè handbag and was told the design was the Marcie bag and the price was $245. I show up to find it is not the Marcie, it's the Paraty Satchel and the price was a full $100 more than what I was told. And the reaction was basically an "oh, sorry". Not a single effort to make it right. I'm an avid consignment girl and don't mind traveling a little ways for a good find but won't be traveling to this place again. Contorni! read more

I suggest reading the "not recommended" reviews as they are completely accurate. Enormously difficult to consign here and the owner is always "right". They removed original tags from my items (thus devaluing them), got haughty because I wanted itemized list, accounting of your items, which I need for itemization is horrendous and the owner tells me I do not need them (how does she know my tax situation) and due to me, the customer mind you, insisting I do; I am forbidden from consigning in the future. I'd forgotten that I had had much better, friendlier service at Current Boutique, which the owner reminded me of when she called two months after I had made a consignment appointment (the day before my scheduled appointment). Ella-Rue in Georgetown sold all my high-end pieces as has Inga at "Once is not Enough" ... all of these are very nice, educated and great at addressing customer concerns. read more
