The Concierge desk provides day tours to many different hotspots in the region. Shout out to Tommaso who recommended a great tour for Gibraltar. Also provided helpful info on how to get around the area as well. The room was well decorated. Cleaning service was performed everyday. There is a beach area on the resort, as well as a full gym, and both indoor/outdoor pools. Numerous restaurants are nearby. So overall, a great place to stay and enjoy the sunny southern Spain.

Distinctive pink architecture and wide outdoor spaces are perfect for conference or leisure groups. A fairly recent EUR7 million refurbishment of all 148 rooms and suites has revitalized the distinctively Spanish decors with all modern amenities. The aspirational Imperial Suite is a marvel. Split-level with the top floor a glass box on top of the hotel, the entertainment areas have a private bar, leather sofa suites and a telescope to survey the entire coastline. The Beachfront too has been redone for the summer season with landscaping and furniture. The health club is small but perfect for basic workouts, but my favourite place was the swim-up bar in the lovely lagoons and whiling away the day in the sunny gardens.

I would not recommend using On The…read moreBeach, as it would work out cheaper to do it yourself, just to get that out the way, and their transfers were so poor they were unusable. A taxi from Malaga airport costs around 100 Euros, which if you split it with another couple, as we did, worked out cheaper than transfers. Anyway! The hotel itself is great - we upgraded to a suite for 25 Euros per night when we got there - glad we did, it was palatial. Massive bed, lovely marble bathroom, huge balcony with sofa, table and chairs and sunloungers. The maid service came twice a day and there was nothing more they could have done to make our stay more comfortable - simply brilliant. The pool area is lovely and serene, no loud music blaring and as it's an adults-only hotel, no kids shrieking either! There is a second quieter, smaller pool if you want to really get away from it. The pool restaurant/bar was good, usually good service and quick. Didn't use the spa, so can't comment on that. Buffet breakfast was certainly worth paying for, as the choice was phenomenal. The made-to-order omelettes were delicious, get there early though as there can be quite a queue for those. Never had any trouble finding a sun lounger - usually laid in the palm tree garden which was lovely. It was quite breezy when we were there in September, and a bit cooler than usual, according to the staff. The beach is about a 10 minute walk away, however, it is not suitable for bathing on or in. There is a shop a short walk away on the same side of road as hotel, however it is poorly stocked and closes and opens at erratic times (or did when we were there!). The hotel itself is lovely but situated beside a very busy highway. None of the rooms overlook this though, so noise isn't an issue. However, it does mean if you want to go somewhere other than the shop or the few restaurants nearby, you have to walk quite a way to get to the flyover (which is shonkily constructed!) or take cabs. A cab into Estepona cost around 15 Euros and took about 10-15 mins. Overall, I'd definitely go back to Senator Banus.

El Cortijo Blanco is located near Marbella just off a main road. The Cortijo is just down the road from it's sister hotel , the Pueblo Andaluz, and guests of either hotel can use the facilities of the other. The Cortijo is a great little place. It's set out in Andalusian style and has a great atmosphere. Rooms are large and very clean. Facilities at the hotel include a pool,. library, bars, entertainment, table tennis and internet (1 euro for 12 mins). The entertainment team are great, there is plenty organised if you want to take part, but they don't try and force you into anything. The food is good with plenty of choice at each meal. Great value, I would definitely return.

True story: We ordered drinks at an on-site restaurant, El Rincon, and they came, along with a dish of peanuts. At the bottom of the dish we saw ashes. In short, they served us from a dirty ashtray. I am disappointed in this restaurant. The resort is fine, clean, attractive, and well-maintained, just far removed from the experience of actually being in Spain. I say this as someone who stayed in Torremolinos back in '85, and this is my first return trip to Spain. But be advised, you must travel beyond the confines of the MacDonald Resort to get an authentic Spanish feel, as opposed to the transplanted Little Britain that exists here.
