I stayed at the Meadow House for two nights this week. It was lovely. The cabin was stocked with everything I could possibly need; the 360 degree views were beautiful and my time there was restful and quiet, which was what I was seeking. I was able to sleep in, read, sit on the porch and watch the deer, and wander the area and property taking photographs. For someone who works 7 days a week, this was a wonderful respite and time with nature. The owners were helpful and kind. Read the FAQs, don't expect to be fed a whole lot to do--that's really not the point. I look forward to returning some day to experience what it's like in a different season and explore other roads and little gems in the Driftless. read more

Our stay at Candlewood cabins was pleasant and restful. We got the Little house next door which is right next to the house where the owners live. That was a little problem since we couldn't fully relax and play music quietly outside. There weren't a lot of instructions on where to find the remotes to the various electronics including the fan and the wifi did not work at all. The firewood was a bit expensive at 10$ per bundle. It was a small cozy little cottage and the owners made sure it had all the things you might need for a weekend getaway. The cabins are set in the beautiful hilly area of Driftless of Wisconsin and has absolutely stunning views. Might fo back to try a different cabin. read more

Where do I start off? We waited two years to stay at this place. We were all excited. It is hard to get reservations here and they are booked up over a year in advance. You would think that this would be like winning the lottery right? It has to be an awesome experience with all of these people wanting to get in. Well, wrong. I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to come out from the woods like I was being punked. The photographer that took the pictures for the website needs to take mine because I will wind up looking like Christy Brinkley. We stayed in the one room glass cabin. It was a different and SOMEWHAT nice cabin. However, the glass was dirty and there is not much privacy. You have to walk across a small bridge to use the bathroom. This becomes difficult at night. The tiny, tiny kitchen is a foot away from the toliet and don't dare use any utensils because you have to wash them before you check out. Another charge. LOL. We are not cheap by any means, but for over $250 a night we expected a little more. We were also charged a glass cleaning fee on our bill. This is a joke since the glass was not clean when we arrived. If everyone pays a glass cleaning bill, shouldn't the glass be clean when you arrive? Our little 2 day vacay was upsetting. There also, is nothing to do in the area and no place to even hike on the property. It is not a giant wooded area like we assumed. You can see the other cabins nearby. Not a secluded romantic night away like we thought. We could not stay more than the 2 day minimum due to this. There is no wifi or tv in the cabin and no attractions to see for miles around this place. Live and learn I guess. Everything is not like advertised. #boredanddisappointed read more

We stumbled across candlewood when looking for a unique and special place to stay for our honeymoon, and it is the most amazing little retreat. I am so glad we found the cabins! My husband and I continue to book anniversary stays here and it truly helps us unwind! They book up really quickly but if you can snag a spot to stay take it!! After crazy mindless hours of research, I stumbled upon the website of these cabins. Not seeing any reviews and not knowing what exactly to expect, I can honestly say how pleasantly surprised I was as soon as we pulled up the drive. Situated on a large massive amount of acreage, Norbert and Susan have created two very distinct, lovely cabins tucked away in the southern hills of Richland Center. There is one called a Log Cabin and another, which was the one we stayed, called the (aptly named) Hillside Cabin, residing on a hillside. (They're also building a third one called the Glass House that should be open later this season I believe, which as you guessed is made of four glass walls.) The Hillside Cabin exudes welcoming warmth the moment you pull up the secluded drive. It beckons you to come in and explore the surrounding grounds. (Be sure to count how many birds/nests you find!) Complete with screened-in porch, full amenities and a firepit for great s'mores-makin', this place creates the country nature atmosphere of total relaxation that can only be found once your senses are quieted and all you hear are birds chirping, owls hooting and the occasional lone coyote howling. Be sure to bring your bikes because great bike trails are all within a 45 minute drive! Also, for the dog owners out there: don't leave little Fido at home, as this place is completely dog friendly (no dogs on furniture though)! read more

Just got back from a weekend in the comfy and cozy log cabin at Candlewood and we didn't want to leave. The cabins and surrounding woods are so quaint, I kept looking for woodland elves and a gingerbread house. I loved the details: wood chests, antique suitcases, lofted bedroom, wood-burning pot-belly stove and large jacuzzi, plus board games, CDS, books and fully a fitted kitchen. They provide firewood, included in the price of lodging. Lots of light and windows with comfortable seating throughout. Everything is so well thought out and placed, as if you're in the private vacation home of a smart and stylish family, and in a way you are - wife and husband proprietors Susan and Norbert live onsite. They thoughtfully had a fire burning and waiting for our arrival. We'll be back. read more

We have been going to Candlewood for several years now and we always find it to be a beautiful peaceful place in the midst of life's chaos! We prefer the Hillside cabin for it's coziness, wood stove and the beautiful private view of the woods and creek. It is always spotlessly clean with games, books, puzzles, CD player and more to keep you and yours entertained. Of course you can always go for a hike up the hill overlooking the town too! Tho we can usually only afford a couple nights, it seems like longer when your in such a peaceful place. read more

We waited to stay at the Glass House for almost 2 years and were very excited to finally get to go. Unfortunately there were a few things about this cabin that they don't mention on the website which we found slightly upsetting. 1) you have to hike to the cabin. They provide a cart but the hike is approx 1 block up hill and that means you have to hike up & back in the rain/mud as well. Not a major issue but if we were any older we might not have been able to do that. 2) you are not secluded - you can actually see the other 2 cabins while sitting on the bed. Now if you close some of the shades you cannot see them anymore but I paid for a "glass" cabin. 3) you have to pay for them to clean but then you are expected to wash and put away the dishes or you will be charged. This one bothers me for 2 reasons a) because the dishes are supposed to be sanitized per the sign they have hanging but since I had to wash them in a bathroom sink I would say they are not. b) because I already paid $40.00 for them to clean. 4) the website said walking paths - well I don't think an old timber road & paths leading from it to each cabin is really walking paths since if you took a path you ended up at somebody else's cabin. Don't get me wrong we ended up having a very nice time, especially since there was no cell service or wifi to distract us from relaxing. Although I wont go back due to the issues above - I wouldn't tell other people not to go but be prepared for these things before booking. Frankly next time we will take our $400.00 and put it towards a full service hotel on an exotic beach read more

We stayed in the Hillside cabin late Oct. and it was relaxing and peaceful. Cabin had everything that we needed; clean sheets and towels, comfy bed, huge tub, and kitchen essentials to prepare meals. We did stop at Walmart in Richland Center to buy breakfast food-bacon, eggs, bread, coffee and milk. The Hillside is very inviting and we took advantage of the wood-burning stove, the fire pit and the trails for hiking. The owners are so friendly and helpful. We didn't want to leave and we will definitely go back. read more

I"m hesitant to write a review on this because I don't want even MORE people to know about this hidden gem. I've been three times and every time I leave wishing I could stay just another night more. The cabins are amazing, cozy, and everything you need. A person who likes adventure, I found myself wanting to cozy up with a good book, listen to the birds, and just enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. Everything is taken care of - from wifi to a full kitchen. We even brought our dog - who seemed to be relaxing and soaking up every moment of it. These last two stays were in the Log House, which boasts a beautiful tub that my daughter loves, that is situated in the loft, along with the main queen bed. For $18 they supply linens (we've done it both ways) and I found it to not be a hassle to bring my own sheets and towels. There's an air conditioner and heater, keeping us comfy in all types of weather. Outside is a newly renovated fire pit and charcoal grill. The kitchen is fully stocked, sans pantry items, so make sure you bring condiments, flour, sugar, etc. There was salt and pepper, but everything else needs to be brought in. The owners are amazing and inspiring - they are the leads in the area production of Mary Poppins - so their busy lives are stretched between the cabins but you wouldn't know it. They were accessible and reliable and kind. I found myself amazed at their beautiful vegetable garden. Someday when my daughter is older (or when we get a sitter) I'd love to rent the Meadow House. But for now, we are perfectly content in the Log House. This is about as perfect as it gets. read more

This is our 2nd stay at the meadow house & we love it!! It was beautiful in January & even more so in October. Cabin is warm and inviting and has everything you need for a wonderfully relaxing stay. We love walking thru the wooded trails as well. read more
