My baby would get shuffled from room to room, teacher to teacher and her clothes, coat etc. would be elsewhere in the facility. It was like hide-and-go-seek every night when I picked her up.......first find the child and then the outerwear. When I come to pick my baby up here she is in the same place as I left her and her belongings are in her cubby in the same room, what a concept!!! :) Sunflower is great with my baby she has no rashes and doesn't seem to go through half the diapers and wipes Imagination did (with rashes). I have not noticed staff turn around here. She goes to the same room and has the same teachers every day. The class room size is smaller and she is learning quite a bit here already to include they are helping greatly with potty training. She doesn't cry or cling to me when I drop her off, and goes right to playing. She wants to be there, that in it's self speaks a thousand words!!! She has not been bitten or hurt by another child since shes been here nor has she been so "clumsy" that she has bruises from the knees down constantly and that seemed to be the weekly norm at IS. My one and only concern is the front door. I have had nightmares that my baby gets out and heads towards Boniface Pkw. She is 2 and does not know or understand the dangers of the street yet.....nor would one at her age heed them if she did....curiosity is a strange, exciting thing for children but it is a real fear for me just the same. There is a gate at her room doorway which most the kids know how to open and all it takes is a few seconds to go out then get to that outer door and push the handle and out she goes headed straight for Boniface and traffic going faster than 40MPH. A secondary security measure at that front door would definitely put my mind at ease. All in all I am not going to deduct a star for the door issue and my possible overactive imagination or fears as the daycare is an awesome place for her to be on a daily basis. I am so happy that she is happy there and that she is properly cared for. I would recommend this daycare to anyone.

There are many highlights and advantages to PNA. The downside is there seems to be a lack of communication and transparency. Each teacher seems to set their own curriculum and classroom standards. Academics could be more challenging. No hot lunch except for pizza Monday's. Tuition is one of, if not the highest in anchorage. Overall is suits our needs as we are only here two years but we will definitely add some tutoring this summer to make sure our kids don't fall behind the lower 48's standards.

I visited East High as a coach for football…read more I can't say much about the inside other than to say the locker rooms were clean. The parking lots and entrances are the main focus of this post. There are lots of entrances, but not ease of movement between them. If you're going to a football game, you'll want to enter from Bragaw street. There are two parking lots. If you're coming from Northern lights you'll want to turn right on the road past the back edge of the school nearly to the housing development. I think they should install signage directing people to try field (and other locations). I spent quite a bit of time entering parking lots only to exit them because they weren't connected.

Our experience raised serious concerns about racism, bigotry, bullying, and the school's failure to…read moreprovide a consistently safe, inclusive, and accountable environment. Families should understand that these concerns are not merely differences in educational philosophy. Over the years, we observed and experienced what we believe were recurring problems involving discriminatory treatment, inconsistent discipline, and inadequate and harmful administrative responses. We also perceived unequal treatment in how the school communicated with and responded to parents. Our experience was that asking difficult or unwelcome questions could affect how a family was treated or whether it remained under consideration. The teacher and principal appeared more focused on protecting the school and minimizing concerns than on fully investigating what happened, acknowledging harm, or ensuring accountability. The school's broader handling of racism and bigotry has also been deeply troubling. A school cannot claim to be compassionate and inclusive while dismissing, minimizing, or failing to adequately address discriminatory conduct. Families deserve clear policies, consistent enforcement, transparent investigations, and concrete support for students who experience bias or harassment--not vague assurances or institutional defensiveness. Academically, the school also falls short of what many families may expect. Math performance is particularly concerning, with only approximately 18% of students reportedly performing at grade level. Support appears limited for both struggling and advanced learners. The Anchorage School District's directive requiring Winterberry to implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is also significant. The directive followed years of complaints involving bullying, safety, and ineffective discipline. According to the district's memo, the school had not fulfilled its charter commitment to establish and maintain a schoolwide behavior plan. District intervention and increased oversight beginning in the 2025-2026 school year suggest that these concerns should be taken seriously. We are also concerned that public resources are being directed toward sustaining a school model in which serious issues involving racism, bigotry, student safety, and accountability remain unresolved. Public funding should support an environment where every student is treated fairly and where misconduct is addressed openly--not one where institutional loyalty appears to take priority over transparency and accountability.

Pastor Prevo is Alaska's Jerry Falwell/Moral Majority Leader and still stuck in the 80's and 90's…read morewith his brand of evangelical Christianity. Back in the summer of 2009 when he and his church had that gay rights protest, anybody with a rational mind, Christian convictions or not, could see he and lot of the people in his congregation are pretty pharisaical, uninformed, and judgmental. And the fact that there were children participating in the protest and holding up signs was downright appalling. The smugness and hypocrisy with the pastor of this church is astounding. He spends much of his time behind and outside the pulpit dabbling in politics, spoon-feeding his congregation on what to think, how to think, how to vote, and will never listen to or accept another viewpoint other than his own thinking his opinion is God's opinion. He reminds me of the warden from The Shawshank Redemption. I am aware of his background and won't go into detail about it and quite sure it's had a contributing effect to his style. If you are curious about his troubled background as a kid, Google it. Nothing secretive, in fact, he himself has talked about it. If you desire a large evangelical church in Anchorage, Alaska with real and nonjudgmental people, focuses on real life and the real world, and relevant messages while staying faithful to scripture I have not yet found the church to suit that area, unfortunately.
