July 12, 2022 I enjoyed a red ale at our favorite pizza place Carmelo's and learned it was brewed locally at Ancient City Brewing. I went to their bar in the historic district to buy some for home. The bar, like most buildings in the area, is at least a hundred years old and full of details and quirky spots. Definitely the kind of place to stop in for a cold brew or two on a hot afternoon. Ancient City Brewing is a cool brewery in a warehouse area off the beaten path.  They have a taproot downtown in the middle of the historic district of St.  Augustine.  Didn't get to go there, instead I went the were they brew their wonderful beer. It is literally in a warehouse building and you walk in through garage type doors.  The tap room is to the left when you enter which is a little confusing because the way it is set up it with bench tables, the natural flow is to jeep walking forward. The tap room is dark and looks like someone put a bar in the basement.  There are high tops and bar stool which are warn.  Kind of gives it that dive bar feel.  There is a juke box and some games. Our beertender Connor was wonderful.  He introduced us to their wonder cat Galleon.  Galleon was very entertaining, especially when he was tearing through coasters.  They had about six of the own beers on tap when we visited and about 8 or 9 guest taps.  The selection was good.  They also have this cool board where you can leave a drink for friends.  Love the concept of paying it forward. The Beer: Galleon's Golden Ale 4.8% ABV... I can taste the corn in it, smooth drinking, slightly pilsesk Mataza River Red Ale 6.2% ABV... Some bold flavor here, slightly bitter, and also great Ponce's Pale Ale 5.2% ABV... really wasn't feeling this one Pump Quistador pumpkin Ale 9% ABV... delicious, not a fan of pumpkin beer, this is a good one Anastasia Island IPA 6.5%... decent IPA All and all a decent beer selection.  They brew some good beers here at Ancient City Brewing. read more

This is a long overdue review! My wife and I held an adoption art fundraiser at the beginning of August that Ancient City Brewing graciously supported. Putting together the event was complex and time consuming, but getting a bunch of amazing beer from ACB made our lives easier. We had a bunch of guests going crazy over Ponce's Pale Ale, Augustine's Orange Amber Ale, and Anastasia Island Style India Pale Ale. At that point we had just finished the paperwork to get started with adopting a new family member and we were able to raise nearly 10% of our adoption costs through the support of Ancient City Brewing. Jared delivered our beer and he was an absolute gem of a person. Big, big thank you to Britta for making us a gift basket. Lastly, I want to thank Greg and Annie. It turns out y'all helped us adopt. We matched with a birth mom the week after the adoption and our newborn is due this coming Friday. Beer is amazing. It can help you get a kid the traditional way or through adoption! I came for a YELP Elite event and was thrilled to try this place. I was surprised and pleased at how crowded it was on a Thursday night. I realized when we entered it was due to Trivia Night! Love it! They have a great Trivia company that they work with and the whole place was involved and having fun. I love their craft beer selections - great beer! read more

We went to the Ancient City Brewing on Agriculture road. There were only one other couple there. Their beer was good and the beer tender was very pleasant! The brewery cat had the run of the place and came over to check out my flight. I'd rather not have him up on the bar. read more

So glad I decided to stop in! I was just in town for a little bit and had about an hour and a half to check out Ancient City Brewing. The location was very convenient to I-95 and the hotel I was staying in. It's a great brewery and the tasting room was perfect. The bartender was friendly and told me all about their different beers. I ordered a taster flight to start, and then ended up drinking a pint of their Key Lime beer, which tasted almost like a traditional Hefeweizen to me. I walked away with some merch as well. They had put on their website that there was a "trivia night" from 7-9pm that's why my friend and I went to this location instead but when we arrived there was no trivia/ anyone playing at all. We meandered back through a business park to find Ancient City Brewing and the brightly colored mural on the outside. They have a wonderful patio with picnic tables and a garage-type seating area & inside you will find a reprieve from the heat in both a spacious, air-conditioned tasting room & cold beer. I let John pick the beer- a Coconut Porter (I had actually commented that if I did like beer I would try that one) and I had a bottle of water. I love the swing doors leading to the back with their logo on it and looked at their merchandise area. The young lady serving was very nice and had a few other customers at the bar and a couple playing darts while sipping their beers. The place had a very relaxed atmosphere and the patrons at the bar seemed to be regulars. It made me miss where we used to live before Jacksonville- we were regulars at a local brewery and the owners knew us by name. Reminiscing is a plus for any place new! I loved the laid back vibe and will put this on our list of places to stop anytime we are out on day trip. Being right off the interstate provides a welcome break. And of course- the downtown location is on our radar too for a cool place to dip in anytime we are downtown. read more

Went to this brewery yesterday afternoon and was greeted by a friendly bartender and atmosphere. They have around 10-12 different beer options with varying tastes but I chose the Diamant IPA and it was very nice. We played a round of cricket on one of their 2 dartboards and just hung out with a couple friends to chat it up before catching some late lunch in St. Augustine. The furniture is very nice and the bathrooms were kept clean. I would definitely come back. read more

I don't know where to start! So since the trip up to St. Augustine takes us over 5 hours, we decide to stay at a cheaper hotel than where we have reservations the night before up there. We only stay at a certain inn in the historical district when we visit so we do this to save some money. This inn includes a social hour that has been featuring Ancient City beers the last couple times we were there. I said we have to go to the brewery and this trip we finally made it. This place is in the middle of an industrial area and I'm glad we drove instead of walking because it was a way away from where we were staying. There is a huge open area inside, which the giant gates were open to from the outside. There were tables and the tanks all around the perimeter. We finally figured the door to get inside lol. The bartender was there with her significant other and their dog, along with a couple who were customers. Any time I see dogs at a business, I'm immediately happy. I started with the coconut porter and hubby had IPA the whole night. It was really good and when I made a comment about not tasting the coconut, the bartender said they use coconut oils, not the actual fruit. I still liked it. I then had the watermelon ale. It was good but not super amazing. You can taste a hint of melon but not overpowering. I chose the bourbon barrel beer for my finale. OMG!!!! It was double the price as the other beers ($10) and higher %. I sipped it slowly but I still felt it a little after. It was one of the best beers I have had in a really long time. We brought a growler we had at home from another place in anticipation of purchasing their beer. We were planning to come back on our way back home so the beer would be fresh but they are closed on Mondays. The bartender referred us to their other location in town that is just the bar but were told they don't have all the beers the brewery does. We didn't have time to stop anyway. There were these workers that showed up around midnight who sat at another table outside and were cool. They helped the bartender with closing and carried the picnic tables inside at the end of the night. Another welcoming factor. Hubby helped them with the table we got up from. We purchased some koozies, a shirt, and a sweatshirt as well. The bartenders enrolled me in their rewards program, which I believe is for every 10 beers you buy, you get one free. Not bad! I really enjoyed everything about this place and I am already putting this on my itinerary for when we return for NYE. read more

When visiting family in Saint Augustine we always make sure to visit Ancient City Brewing! They have the best craft beer in town! Besides crafting beer since 2014, it's also a great place to hang listening to local music and play pool. Sometimes they have food trucks as well. Love that it's five minutes from my in-laws. Either way, staff was hella friendly and I did a flight: I tried the IPA, the Hefe, the Dunkel, and the Black Cherry Ale. I loved them all, and the Dunkel was my favorite. Black cherry ale was actually awesome too. I tried some of my friends flight, and he had the Coco Port, Coco Stout, Victory Amber, and an Orange Ale. The Coco stout was bomb AF. This place is super low key and a bit away from everything else in saint Augustine. Went here with my boyfriend and really enjoyed some of the beers that were offered including a peach ale. Yum! The bartender was also really nice but there is a reason that this review is 3 stars. We came at around 2 on a weekend and we were there with just a couple other customers. A brewer came in and had made a comment very loudly where it could clearly be heard about how loud and obnoxious we were being and how it's supposed to be quiet during that time of day. The space is very small and with few people , anyone can hear anyone. We were not loud, not obnoxious. Just two people casually talking in a bar and ever communicating with the man a few seats down. This brewery, while tucked away in an unassuming industrial park, is truly your one-stop shop for a great time. Not only do they have an outstanding line-up of signature brews (hellooo River Red), but they also host a rotating list of smaller-batch creations. They also have wine offerings for the non-drinkers. Additionally, this isn't just a bar. They offer board game options, dart boards, an evening for stand-up comedy, a trivia night, a yoga class, craft workshops, biker events, dog-friendly days, food trucks, pool tables, pinball, cornhole and more. They seem to have something going on every day of the week, and they also host larger events regularly which cater to all sorts of folks with varying hobbies and interests. St. Augustine has a handful of brewery options these days, but this will always be the OG for me. I highly recommend you pay a visit, whether you're a local looking for a new regular hang or a visitor just rolling through town. read more

Being from Ohio, this was only my second visit here with both visits occurring on trivia night with my family and favorite Uncle who now lives in the area. The building itself is pretty cool as it is an old warehouse which is located just off the beaten path. My uncle introduced us to the barmaid Erica who was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered two flights in order to sample the in-house brews. Now, I must preface this with the fact that I'm not a fan of IPA's or Pumpkin type beers in general so I will not offer my review even though I sampled them. The highlight in my opinion was the Castillo Coconut Porter which had a decent taste with subtle notes of coconut. The Augustine's Orange Amber Ale was light with a clean taste and the Matanzas River Red Ale had OK taste but too bitter for my taste buds. As a wise man once told me, beer is about taste and everybody's taste is different. Once trivia started, the place was packed and it definitely get's loud but man what great fun. I had my kids there with us playing that range in age from 11 to 20 years old and they also had fun. The epic part was that our team, the Booze Hounds, tied with another team of which was resolved by a dance-off tiebreaker between my 11-year old daughter and a woman in her twenties from the other team. The vote was simply whoever got the loudest applause from their dance moves and you guessed it, my daughter won! This solidified our trivia team 1st place victory which garnered us an Ancient City Brewing gift certificate. This made the experience one for the books and definitely see going back next time we're in town. read more

This joint is pretty cool... as it screams locals only. I'm honored to know all about it. They have 2 dart boards but they really need to be replaced as do the darts. My husband and I randomly show up and look forward to playing together and always hope they have been replaced. I also wish they played music more often. It seems that it depends on who is working that day/night? It is a bit dreary when you walk in to silence... a bit awkward actually when people can hear your conversation across the room. I'm not saying it needs to be all the way cranked up but give ya girl some stick figure radio while sipping local brews =) I really do love this place though! They have an outdoor seating area where they brew the beer. I believe there are some board games inside as well as life size jenga outside. I have seen people bring their dogs which is pretty awesome! On certain days there is a food truck outside serving some tasty tacos! Tacos, brews, and board games? YASSSSSS! The best combo ever! Just gimme the music and we are set! This place is great and I love their fresh crisp brewed IPAs!!! Just some minor things I wish were different. read more

What a cool place!! They hosted the Totally Awesome 80's 5k and we had a great time. Large facility in the middle of an industrial park close to the outlets in St Augustine. Great outdoor seating. Great indoor seating. Lots of great beer on draft. I had a Golden pale after the race. My wife had the orange ale. Very good beer. Service was amazing, especially since they were serving regular customers and dozens of runners. Nice, clean bathrooms. Love the outdoor area here. They had a DJ playing 80's classics, but would be great for live music. Prohibition Kitchen had a food truck there. Not sure if that's a regular thing or not. Great time!! read more

Nice place. When you arrive, there is a huge indoor area with picnic tables and chairs, don't be confused. There are 2 additional separate entry doors that lead you into the brewery where there is plenty of indoor, nicely air-conditioned seating. They DO NOT allow pets inside unless they are service dogs. Size does not matter, NO dogs. We were here on 9.28.19 and this place was hoping by 230pm. Unreal. That was odd but clearly they are doing "lots" correctly. My husband had 4 samples, 5 IPA pints and I had 2 pints of the Strawberry Fields Copper Ale, EXCELLENT. Definitely will return. read more

It has been almost a year since I was here last. I wasn't as impressed with this place as I was the last time. The beer didn't taste as good. I had a mantanza red ale which was good last time but it tasted different this time. I also had a flight of 4 beers. Last time it was only $5, this time it was $10.50. Got a flight of brews I hadn't had yet; Watermelon Wheat Ale, Black Cherry Ale, Smokey and Bacon Rauchbier Lager and 'Empower Razzed Chocolate Nitro Stout'. All 4 were excellent. Yes, the bacon was smokey and smelled and tasted like bacon. The Watermelon Wheat had an upfront watermelon flavor that was great. The cherry came through in that a ale and the nitro was the one I ordered a point of. So often the beer doesn't live up to the name but these were spot on. I'm impressed. read more

I enjoy craft beer so we took a drive to St Augustine. They have a wide selection of brews, nice merchandise and growlers. GF drinks wine and they offered several. I like hoppy beers so I choose them with a high IBU. Went with their New England IPA which would be a great hot humid day beer to satisfy you! The other IPA I don't recall. Both were worthy. This is by far my favorite brewery in St. Augustine. The locals are welcoming and enjoy a good chat about history. The bartender has a great sense of humor and the beers are all around the best in the city. There isn't much in terms of food so I highly recommend eating prior to coming here. We came here towards the end of the day and the place was substantially packed. We got served our flights immediately and got chatting with the locals. The recommend a few places that many tourists wouldn't have known such as springs and other areas that weren't particularly common to your average tourist in St. Augustine. By far my favorite beer, out of all of the other ones that I've tried is the Imperial IPA. It's fresh and strong which in my opinion is a great combination for those avid beer drinkers. This is the best to come to if you really want to get to know the locals and enjoy a beer with them! read more

Overall the experience was fair. Reason for this review stems from one server named Brita. My group got asked to move seats 3 times and staff began treating us with disrespect as they seemed to want us to leave. I was celebrating a birthday and bringing plenty of business to the brewery. My 87 year old grandfather was almost pushed over by this server Brita who was impatient to let him get out of her way while trying to move in an extra table for a separate event. I would have preferred the staff just ask us to leave instead of being rude and hinting it. I would not go back here again. read more
