We had a great afternoon tasting through the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay selections, guided by the owner Cliff Anderson (despite it being crush). He was friendly, passionate, knowledgeable and down to earth. The wines were very nice too, and expressed the character of the vintage. We enjoyed the lighter vintages, but the ripe and fruit forward years were tasty too, if you prefer that style. Fairly priced. read more

This quaint family-owned vineyard is perched on a hilltop in the Dundee Hills AVA and has a beautiful view of the valley floor. I did a 3-4 year vertical tasting of the chardonnay and pinot noir and was impressed with the consistent quality of the wines. The family seems to focus on producing quality products in small quantities. You do need to phone ahead for an appointment since they don't have a wine tasting staff. First things first...this is not a "pop-in for a wine tasting" kind of place, so I don't want anyone writing a bad review because they stopped in and nobody was available at their whim. It's polite to call a lady to ask her on a date, and the same principle applies for this lady of a winery. Call, schedule, and they will accommodate you. I will tell you why I like this policy: they give you their undivided attention. There isn't a giant group of strangers sloshing around making really annoying observations about the subtlety of the wine. Alright. On to better things, like their wine! We stopped here upon our driver's recommendation (way to go Jeff at Insiders Wine Tours!). Jeff had called them and set up a wine tasting and picnic lunch there. We arrived and were greeted by Jonathan and his dog, Gretel (the cutest little poodle/schnauzer mix in the world!). He took us in and we met Michael, who was working amongst the big wine barrels. We chatted for a bit and our wine tasting began. Jonathan had 6 wines for us that particular day: 2 pinot gris', 2 chardonnay's, and 2 pinot noir's ('07 and '08 in each variety). As far as I understand, these are the three varietals this particular winery produces. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and completely entertaining. We all laughed a lot during this tasting, and felt completely at ease with our host. Jonathan was appropriately passionate about the wine, and could tell us a lot about the historical background of the winery itself. I'll just say this--I learned more about wine at this tasting than I have at any other tasting. This winery also does a tasting in a specific way--they set it up based around the production years. For example, they had us taste the 2007 of the pinot gris and then the 2008 so we could taste the difference between the two years. I loved this! According to Jonathan, I like the brooding, serious wines best. Good to know. A note on their Chardonnay (and Jeff, our driver pointed this out, so maybe it's power of suggestion), they have the best Chardonnay I have ever tasted. Strangely, I went for the 2008 on this one...the year it started out hot and got cool. I like very little acidity in my white wine and always lean towards the sweeter whites. So this was the only varietal in which I veered away from the 2007 version. Last but not least, they have a spectacular view, which was perfect for our picnic. A fabulous time was had by all, and I will most certainly be calling for a second date sometime. read more

This is a lovely slightly smaller scale winery. The view from here is breathtaking. The owners gave us a interesting & educational overview on their winemaking process. We tasted several vintages of the same wine and it is amazing how different each is "on the nose" (a new phrase I learned) and the taste! Very enjoyable place to visit. read more

Anderson Family Vineyard - Absolutely gorgeous here! - Wineries Near Me - Newberg, Oregon

Great, great winery. I'd be hard-pressed to choose between this and Adea, but really they're apples and oranges in both their approach and to a lesser extent the wines the produce. We went here in September and Jonathan treated us right. He let us try 07s and 08s of the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Tasting the difference between the years, based mainly on the weather that year is really cool. We also found out that apparently Mrs. K. has a more advanced palate than me and I like the "simple-minded" ones. Sigh. The location is really cool - on the top of a hill, with the vineyards stretching out along the sides of the hill into the valleys. There is probably at least a couple hundred feet of elevation gain between the top vines and bottom vines and apparently, you can even tell the difference in the grapes based on that. Jonathan is really smart, very friendly, funny and helpful. This place is (as I understand it) by appointment only, but they're more than willing to make an appointment for whoever wants to go. Definitely a cool experience and the wines are more than worthwhile. read more

Take this simple advice- if it takes the effort to make a reservation at a winery to visit, the experience is going to be superior to most walk-in places. This is a great - GREAT place! They are only open to the public on Thanksgiving and Memorial Weekends, unless and appointment is set. We were greeted warmly by the family and knowledgeable employees and we got to visit the room with the barrels, saw the bungholes and got to smell a fermenting barrel of wine it was really neat and added to the experience. I'm sure that when they have the appointments on non-open weekends that the experience is even better. We visited with a group of 6 on Thanksgiving weekend and we really enjoyed it. I rarely purchase a bottle during the tastings, I like to go more for education and to learn something new to try, but I purchased the 2007 Pinot Noir and I can't wait to have a reason to share it with a girlfriend. The family was very knowledgeable and welcoming. The views and property are just amazing, and we would visit again. read more

Anderson Family Vineyard is a new favorite! We called to make a reservation for a private tasting as they are by reservation only. We did a vertical flight of whites and reds; what was cool about this was having Chardonnay from '07, '08, '09, and '10 as well as Pinot Nior and Syrahs from the same years. It as fun to hear that one year was cooler than another and all tasted different. One of the owners, Allison was great to talk to and she showed us where the barrels were explaining the fermentation process. Needless to say we can't wait for our wine to arrive and will most certainly order more down the road! Beautiful grounds as well. read more

First off, let me say BEAUTIFUL winery. Just absolutely stunning. Secondly, the tasting was done differently than any other vineyard I've been too--and I've been to multiple vineyards in Texas, throughout California and a scattering in Oregon. Rather than displaying multiple grape varietals the tasting consisted of only two wines; chardonnay and pinot noir. But the really interesting thing was they had three consecutive years of each, 2008, 2009 and 2010. The manager was knowledgeable about the weather each year and how that had effected the grapes and all three tasted like completely different wines. Set up an appointment and check it out! read more

This post is a result of reading several others that had a similar experience. The setting atop the vineyard is the one nice piece. These folks once sold a large portion of their annual harvest to some talented wine makers that made some favorable wines. That is how I heard about them. The Matriarch, referenced as "A" from here on, is not overly personable, friendly, or kind based on my visits to the winery. Each visit seemed to get progressively worse as others had commented on their experiences. Our last visit was over nine months ago; when after a couple of earlier stops, my friend came in a few minutes after me holding a dog leash asking if it was ok to let her dog out. Ms "A" blew a fuse. She was challenged by the the woman that is the wife of the wine maker/owner for no apparent reason other than the question while holding a dog leash. Friends that have belonged to their wine club say "C", her wine making husband, is ok, but "A"has a reputation for lacking social grace. We did taste some wine, and bought several bottles, I fear out of feeling intimidated. Wines are medium, ok, certainly not great... We would all be better served if they went back to selling their grapes. Good luck read more

For all the effort of making a reservation we were not impressed with this place. We were hoping for a truly exclusive experience given the trouble of getting a gate code and finding the place with no signs. Felt like a fairly amateur operation despite coming across as really full of themselves. Had a much better experience at other wineries that did't require a reservation. read more

BTW, I am not related. I have the same last name...I am from Texas. We pulled up and immediately fell in love. The view...the owners...the wine. They pulled virtually every wine for us to try with a 30 minute notice. The Pinot noir was the best of our trip to Oregon. We joined the wine club without hesitation. Gorgeous property, lovely people, delicious wines.

Purchased multiple bottles from of their 2011 Pinot noir. When we got home and opened (5 days later) it we were disappointed that it was spoiled....every bottle. I contacted the vineyard and sent pictures of the bottle and cork along with my receipt. They were not willing to do anything. read more

This tasting room is by appointment only, but I couldn't get through on the phone, so we decided to stop by because we were down the road... So glad we did!! They let us taste, although would have preferred us to he an appointment. But the wine was incredible! Best Pinot we had in Willamette Wine Country. The Chardonnay was amazing also! The owners are so nice, the scenery was amazing, and wine delicious! Can't get better than that. This was the only winery we joined the Wine Club. Can't wait for our first pickup! read more

Do yourself a favor and call to set up an appointment for a tasting(not an open tasting room). The winery sits atop a hill with amazing views. We had a group of 9 and was greeted promptly and warmly by the owner and wine manager. She gave us a brief history on their winery and then off to drink some wines. We had 7 wines to taste. A 09 Pinot Gris, A vertical tasting of Chardonney 07,08,09, and A vertical tasting of Pinot Noir 07,08,09. I love vertical tastings, the ability to taste what the climate does to the grapes is really cool. By the way who has anymore of the wonderful 08 Pinots? They do! I always promise not to review the wines because everyone's palate is different but these wines were delicious! By the way if your a Chardonney fan and like/tried Bergstroms flagship Sigrid Chardonney at $80 a bottle....they use Anderson's grapes!!! So at $30 a bottle your getter the same grapes!! Go for the views, good company, great wines, vertical tasting, and great prices! read more

Our favorite winery! Great wines and gracious hosts, who also happen to be the owners. Tastings are "vertical flights" meaning same varietal from different years can be sampled side-by-side. Also the Anderson wines are not available for tasting or sale until deemed mature. Wish all wineries would do that! Thanks for a wonderful experience. read more

Do not allow kids or dogs at events, most others are kid and dog friendly so I will spend my money at the other nice wineries! I bought many cases of wine here in the past, never again! read more

Not open after we drove miles to get here per a YELP review. Very frustrating as we've driven too far!

I wanted to post a review because the last two reviewers seem to have gotten it wrong. We were out wine tasting and happened upon this spot on recommendation from another winery. We called first and learned that they do tastings by appointment, and they took our group with only an hour's notice. We had a semi-large group, complete with a couple of kids - who thoroughly enjoyed running around the beautiful property with my cousin's golden retriever. One reviewer below noted that kids and dogs are not welcome - that is totally incorrect. We did our vertical tasting of chardonnay and pinot noir (3 vintages!) with 2 winemakers and the owners. The wines were delicious, and then the owner took us down to the barrel 'cave' which was the coolest thing ever. This was by far the most personable wine tasting experience we had - and they don't even charge a tasting fee! read more
