The service was great and we were welcomed to the winery like we were family. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful view as well as getting to watch our pizzas being made fresh in an epic wood oven. Not your standard pizza toppings but they were very yummy - we had the marinated lamb and smashing pumpkin! It's a boutique winery only open on the weekends. After heading straight to the open lawn and taking in the scenery, we headed inside to see if they had tastings available. They place all the bottles on the counter that they are available to taste so sometimes the items on the tasting menu they have in front of you isn't the same. The man who started our tasting for us wasn't the kindest and that's unfortunate because it cost the place a star. He was short and got us started for our tasting but then started serving other customers that came in. Another staff member continued and served us a few other options but a smile and a little more attentiveness to your customers would go along way. I loved the 2013 Sparkling Frontignac. OMG! It was very me. It's fresh, crispy, bubbly, and has touches of peach! I love peaches and the sip from start to finish was great! I really wish that I had purchased a bottle now. The food coming from the kitchen smelled wonderful! They had cheese platters, brushetta, and pizzas available. I wish we could come a little later so we could have had lunch but we started our tour here and ended up having coffees or a glass of sparkling in my case! If on a budget and you just want a big slice of pizza and a glass of wine then this place is perfect but the winery lunch has moved so far from this place in recent years. Even with the pizzas after getting used to gourmet wood fired thin pizzas now available in so many places it was a bit hard going back to these old style thick greasy cheesey salty Pizzas. The bruschetta was good though but after that you don't feel like more of the same on a pizza. I suspect they cater mostly to locals and they do what they do well. With their set system they can serve a large number of people quickly so unlike other winery restaurants that try to get too complex you won't have to wait long. We were greeted with a friendly manor and shown through to the celler door, where we endulged in an extensive wine tasting before choosing our favourite to have with our cheese platter. Very relaxing afternoon was had and we even got a couple of bottles to take home. Will definitely be back and definitely recommend to others.

This event…read moreis becoming more and more popular, and a large number of cellar doors are opening both unticketed and ticketed events to the public to showcase just how good it is to sit around a fire with a tasty glass of red wine and enjoy some downtime in the hills. Nepenthe was pumping on this particular day. The shed was full of willing punters, who were incidentally also trying to stay warm out of the rain (this particular day was wet. As in, non-stop showers all afternoon wet) but the cellar door was also accessible for those of us who were a little more tame in their celebrations. The wines are really good. The sauvignon blanc, the shiraz and the cabernet all have their own charms, at a reasonable price too. They had TacoCat the food van in attendance to feed the starving (or just curious) masses, and DJ in tow to keep the party going into the night. The festival is a 2 day affair, and we visited on the Saturday, so they were open until 8pm. Some, if not most, of the wineries close around 5pm. On previous visits, we have really enjoyed the sunshine on the hill by the tree. The view is to die for. You can see clear out to Balhannah/Woodside and beyond. Once you settle in to your first glass of wine and take a deep whiff of the grass under your toes, you will want to stay a while.
