From the first employee we encountered at the gate (very nice young lady who gave good directions) to the last everyone was friendly, professional and helpful. The boat (pontoon) was clean, in good repair, and powered by a Mercury engine. I mention this because Mercury engines have a longstanding reputation for reliability. So, one less thing to worry about. I should also mention that my wife is disabled, so getting into the boat was a little more difficult for her. The employees at Big Water didn't hesitate to come to her aid and make the process as easy as possible. It was a small thing, but it meant a lot to us! Lake Hartwell was beautiful, and I would absolutely rent from Big Water again!

Okay, about the actual campground. When we first pulled in, we were disappointed to read a sign that said, "no lake access". We didn't book for that intention, but with 'Lake Hartwell" in the campground name, we thought we might have access. Be aware. There are two halves to the campground. When you pull in, the half on the left has tent sites and sites for smaller rigs, along with full-timers. The roads there were definitely more rugged. The half on the right is definitely prepared for larger rigs; this is where we stayed. Most sites are level; all have grass; and there's a variety of full hook up, water/elec, and nothing. Bring leveling blocks just in case you need them. Pool on site; laundry on site and all machines worked. The entire campsite is well shaded, which is amazing, especially in August sun/heat. With that said, bring a broom or blower to remove all the pine cones and needles from your roof, slides and awnings. And if you hear something slamming into your roof like an asteroid or meteor, no worries. It's a pine cone from 60' up. For real, our dog thought the siege had started the first time one hit. All in all, nice campground very close to Lake Hartwell. One last thing: only 1 vehicle/site. Since we had two, I parked in the parking area - no problem.

We took the South Rim (At least I think it was the South Rim) and went to all 5 viewing points which is a flat walk and a round trip of about 1.5 miles. Then we went down into the Gorge which includes 1,099 steps (actual staircase) to the bottom and of course that many steps back up. You can't go all the way to the Gorge floor without a permit but that just means you can only walk down 1,089 steps to a platform. There are plenty of places to stop including a very cool suspension bridge that overlooks Hurricane Falls. This was pretty tough for a 50-year-old fat boy like me but it's doable if you can simply climb stairs. The views are amazing and worth the quads burning for the next 3 days. The visitor's center is really nice. There is of course a gift shop. a huge display of taxidermy of all the local wildlife and a very nice museum that goes through the history of the region. The most important part is they have air conditioning. Suck it up, take the stairs and buy the t-shirt saying you did it when you are done.

There is almost a museum quality to the taxidermy animal scene they have in the middle of the room and along the walls. Truly a special visit! The hike to see the inspirational point and the swinging bridge wasn't too strenuous for my 4 or 5 year old for people's reference when considering it. We are an active family who hikes etc. There were a lot of warnings but we found it wasn't as bad as it seemed.

First and biggest is the water park area where they have well-maintained, huge inflatables to climb, slide, and jump off. You get an hour free each day you stay there and it's not just for kids!! You can also rent kayaks or jet ski's. Have a boat? They have a dock to park it. Hungry? They have a Mexican restaurant on site that is a whole other amazing review. Food and margaritas are great! The mango habanero chicken strips were delicious and bigger than my hand!! They have an amphitheater where they hold events throughout the summer. We're going back for the 4th of July for the live bands and fireworks. Dogs are welcome everywhere but the beach. But that's okay, they have a dog park just for the pups. You can see where they will be expanding for more RV spots in the future. Entire campground is clean and well maintained. Lots of bathrooms around the property. All camping spots have lake views. Absolutely gorgeous property. This is going to be our new regular place we head on weekends.

We were greeted when we arrived with our registration packet at the entrance, which made things a lot easier while towing a 39' RV. The spots were closer together than other RV parks we have been to, but there was still plenty of room for the camper to fit and have the awnings out for tailgating. Other campers had trailers and cars parked alongside their campers. We drove to campus for the game, but they do offer bus service (I think it was the CatBus) so you don't have to drive. At check out we were thanked by staff who came alongside our truck to talk. They were very kind and genuine in conversation. We will certainly be back next season and would recommend this park for others looking for a place to set up camp for game weekends (or other)!

The park is extremely well-maintained -- great paved roads, excellent trail markings, tons of shelters and picnic areas. There was still some hurricane damage, unfortunately. I parked in the Sulphur Sorings trailhead lot and did the approximately four mile loop. I then visited the park visitor center to get a state parks book and a stamp for Paris Mountain. There was a lake with lots of kids swimming. Overall a great park to visit. I'll definitely be back to hike more trails.

The new manger was never available, she, and relied on the some of the resident to do her job after hours and at the same time they were allowed to break the rules and when you complained about them, she ignored it. prices went up and the residents suffered. There are no amenities for the price you pay, he doesn't give any discounts especially to Veterans, they make you pay to have a DNA test of your dog's poop if your long term. They say they are a 45 and up adults only, and they are not. The owner has party's and the people going to the party race through the parking campground along with the golf carts that do not follow the speed limit. And heaven forbid if you are a good resident who pay their site fee on time and follow the rules but have a few friends over then he evicts you, he picks and chooses who you are allowed to have visit you onsite and at your camper, has even made threats to good resident he would evict if they have them onsite again. Quite time is at 9pm and the staff who live onside are not allowed to be social with the resident's if they are the owner fire and evicts them on the spot.
