Off season camping always has its challenges, but as a full time RV guy, it's a necessary evil. I appreciate state parks that are open year round with facilities like Sadlers Creek. The bathhouse is older, but very well maintained and clean. Good water pressure and it was nice and heated, which is welcomed on a rainy, cold, December stay. The friendly ranger added to a positive experience. read more

Sadler Creek State Park seemed to be the place to be on a late October 2022 weekend. I was glad to have two Ubers respond to my request before 8am on a weekend in rural South Carolina, which is a bit impressive, to say the least. With that said, Sadler Creek State Park was the venue chosen for the annual Sadler Creek Stumble, a weekend ultra running festival that boasts various distances to challenge those who signed up each year. This state park is pretty interesting and it just seems like a long drive from Anderson, SC. The distance from Anderson, at least from my hotel was about 12 miles to get to the entrance of the park. I can walk and run them, as well as ride a mountain bike thru these single track trails. There are places for camping overnight here at the park, which was pretty cool. The views of the lake was pure magic and definitely stunning. When I was there in late October 2022, the weather was semi ideal, although, it could have been a little bit better. Sadler Creek state Park boasts miles of single track trail loops, which is ideal for a lot of recreational people to travel here to do active things. There are shady spots from time to time as well as restrooms in various parts of the park. For the most part though, my experience here at Sadler Creek State Park was good, as I obtained what I was looking for that weekend. The overall experience here at the Sadler Creek State Park was fairly good. Plenty of single track trails and trees to keep your mind and body occupied for a while. At least it didn't rain. The system of trails was fairly good and not obstructed by things along its path. I can see that many South Carolinanas and others who travel thru the area would stop here and camp over night to see the breath taking beauty of the area. There's also a part of the park where there is entertainment for the children and a rest stop for the adults. I dig the ambiance of the park when it's really outside the Anderson SC city limits and had to drive about 20 minutes to the park. I am grateful for the Uber drivers who replied to my requests, especially on a weekend before sunrise! With that said, The Sadler Creek State Park is not that large. One continuous loop on its trail system was about 6.55 miles along. The wooden wigwam I saw was pretty amazing and seemed like it was well preserved. You'd have to go to Persimmon Beach section of the State Park to view it. Among other sites in Sadler Creek state park was a man made bridge that was pedestrian friendly and the many different trees and plant life along the trails. You get to hear silence as well as intermittent birds calling to their friends and potential mates. The call of the wild pretty much. Sadler Creek State Park is located at 2940 Sadler Creek Road, part of Anderson, South Carolina. I think there is an admission fee accessed. I think I paid $3 per day, which wasn't too bad. Cash is preferred. You may want to check out to see if an annual pass is ideal for your situation. For myself, I was there for the weekend in October 2022, so I just ponied up the $6 and I was golden. I think there was someone collecting the fee. Wasn't sure if it was someone who worked for the county or what. Getting around wasn't too difficult, but all the park roads seem to look alike when you want to find a specific place and I didn't have a map of the area. There is parking abound, but as mentioned, you'd probably would need a map and park accordingly. Getting here would likely be thru a rental / private car or thru Uber / Lyft, like how I did. You're basically on your own, if you decide to attempt local public transportation to get Sadler Creek state park. Getting out here is amazing and definitely open to everyone and everyone who enjoys the great outdoors. Spend a few hours or the entire weekend via camping is good for the mind, body, and soul. Love this state park, coming here for almost 10 years. Our favorite loop is loop 3 and we typically stay at site 59 but for our troop family camping trip we got site 49... under an hour a way from home...fishing pier, boat ramp, rec area. read more

I came here for the Sadler's Creek Stumble put on by South Carolina's Upstate Ultras group. They reserve a block of campsites. You can reserve one from the block as part of your race registration fee and volunteering for the race. I ran the 10k on a loop of that exact distance and got to see a decent expanse of the park. Being at a slight elevation, there is a good mix of hardwoods and pines here. However, I found myself moving through all sorts of terrain over moderate trails surrounded by only pines at times and other times running on soft beach sand with beautiful lake and island views. Elevation gain is minimal but if you're taking winding trails you will end up going back and forth down towards water and up hills again. Most campsites are at low spots with Lake Hartwell views. I stayed here on a windy night but it was well worth it. The bathrooms and picnic shelter amenities were all great and there were no impediments to our race set up, volunteer work or running. I've heard that most SC state parks, unlike those in NC, require payment for entry. However, I understand that a year pass can also be purchased. In any case, my race fee also covered park entry. read more

Really nice State Park- not too big and right on Lake Hartwell. Kind of biased as it's only an hour from Geeenville SC, so makes for an easy escape. Lots of lakeside sites- Loop 3 is our favorite. Love 51-60 depending on the size of your rig. Kimberly is right about 59, it's a back in, but we parked on 58- pull thru with a great side view of the lake and sunset! read more

We stayed here for a few days and it's a really pretty park. I guess spring is a little off season bc they only have someone in the office for one hour a day right now, but just went right to our site and set up with no issues. The lake is beautiful and we saw sunsets every night. Clean bathrooms and showers. I just wish they had trash cans or receptacles to encourage more people to pick up after their pets. Most people do but we saw a few who did bother. Other than that, highly recommend and we would definitely come back in the future! read more

Sadlers Creek State park is located in Anderson, SC and if you are interested in having a picnic in a quiet spot and enjoying the lake then this is the right place. We were a group of 50 or odd people. We had booked a shelter for us to keep the food and drinks. The shelters were well maintained and had electricity connections for us to keep the food warm. Kids and adults had ample of space to play. We enjoyed walking by the Lake Hartwell. The place can get secluded at times as we did not see any rangers around. I am not aware if there are any trails or hikes around as we were around the shelters. The restrooms were sparkling clean. The entry fee is $2 cheaper than most state parks around. read more

Riley Moore. Sandie is a church friend of mine and Riley Moore was her Great Great Uncle (I believe that's right). He once upon a time operated a grist mill here at the top of the falls. She's been trying to get here to see the waterfall, but couldn't find it and wanted to join us (along with her family) since I knew the way. Upon further research I discovered there are actually still remnants of the mill including visible drill holes, spikes and bolts. Thought that was pretty cool info to share! [ [ [ PREVIOUS REVIEW ] ] ] Riley Moore Falls is small in height but HUGE in personality. It's located off State Road S37-748, which is a nicely maintained gravel road where cars and trucks alike can comfortably traverse. ~~~ DIRECTIONS From Westminster, SC - DO NOT turn onto Cobb Bridge Road from Long Creek Hwy (Hwy 76) where you will see the brown & white sign pointing you in the direction of Riley Moore Falls. Our GPS had us go this way, then left onto State Road S37-748, but the road was CLOSED during our visit! INSTEAD, turn onto PU-32 also known as Rocky Fork Road. Turn left onto a gravel road near Rocky Fork Baptist Church and follow that until it dead ends @ State Road S37-748 (also known as Spy Rock Road). Turn right and drive approx. 1.4 miles (4 minutes) to 748c (aka Riley Moore Shoals Road). Park at the intersection of State Road S37-748 and 748c. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE 748c in a car or minivan. Low clearance vehicles will find the terrain on this road to be VERY difficult to navigate without bottoming out or getting stuck. I'd also recommend 4x4 capability on wet days! There can be several deep-pocketed muddy areas after heavy rains. ~~~ THE TRAIL Once you reach the intersection of Spy Rock Rd (S37-748) and 748c, park roadside on Spy Rock, secure your vehicle and begin your hike approx. 1/2 mile down the "primitive road." IF you have a high ground clearance SUV or truck, you can drive the primitive road another half mile or so to a second parking area near the trailhead. The primitive road is VERY BUMPY and can be muddy in spots after heavy rains, so a 4x4 is best. After reaching the second parking area, follow the marked trail on the left!!! The trail is a little over a 1/2 mile to the falls from here. The trail is fairly straightforward and easy to follow. ~~~ THE FALLS Once you reach the Chauga River, you will notice a large sandy area with plenty of room for an entire horde of hikers!!! Riley Moore Falls is not very tall (only about 12 feet), but it is very wide and has a deep base pool. PRO TIP - Bring swimwear, towels and a picnic, but be sure to pack it in and pack it out. ~~~ THINGS TO KNOW Hiking Distance: 2 miles (round trip to falls from S37-748) Difficulty of hiking 748c: All downhill to trailhead (moderate return) Difficulty of hiking trail to falls: EASY Creek Crossings: NO Elevation Gain: 357 feet Waterfall Height: Approx 12 feet Access to top of falls: NO - not without getting wet Access to base of falls: YES Pool of water @ base of Falls: YES Sitting areas @ base: YES + sandy beach RESTROOMS: NO PARKING: YES (along road) + secondary parking area closer to trailhead for trucks and high ground clearance vehicles with room for about 6 cars. ~~~ [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] A lovely waterfall in any season, but also a great spot for a summer swim. I didn't realize that we couldn't drive all the way to the trailhead so we had a long hike in store due to me having to carry my toddler most of the time. I should have re-read the previous reviews before coming. My friend did help me carry her as well and for that I was very thankful. So definitely don't recommend this hike with a little one unless strapped in a carrier. Also, I don't recommend it for the elderly either. It's definitely a wilderness hike deal with roots and elevation change. In fact, it's mostly downhill on the way to the falls, but on the way back it's pretty much all uphill, which was not fun with aforementioned young child. It's about a half mile to the actual trailhead and then another 0.7 mile to the falls. That's about 2.4 miles round trip. The reason of course that my boys absolutely became enamored with this place is the large swimming hole. It is wonderful and has plenty of space. The waterfall itself is beautiful and although it's not as tall as others, its width is quite impressive. I was trying to get as close as I could and even noticed a hidden part of the falls inside of the rock structure. That was so cool!! The sand at the base and shore give it a beachy vibe. We definitely packed it in and out making sure not to leave anything behind as to preserve the area as best as possible. Needless to say we were wiped by the time we made it back to our vehicles, but we're still glad we decided to venture here. Coming back with my hubby and boys in the very near future. Happy yelping!

Unfortunately, the mills discharged waste and excess dyes into the river, and the Reedy began to suffer from the spoils of progress. By the mid-20th century, downtown Greenville's stretch of the river was so severely polluted by upstream textile mills that the once pristine and popular falls became desolate and unsafe. Seeing how beautiful and vibrant the area is today makes you truly appreciate the restoration and revitalization efforts. We took the South Rim (At least I think it was the South Rim) and went to all 5 viewing points which is a flat walk and a round trip of about 1.5 miles. Then we went down into the Gorge which includes 1,099 steps (actual staircase) to the bottom and of course that many steps back up. You can't go all the way to the Gorge floor without a permit but that just means you can only walk down 1,089 steps to a platform. There are plenty of places to stop including a very cool suspension bridge that overlooks Hurricane Falls. This was pretty tough for a 50-year-old fat boy like me but it's doable if you can simply climb stairs. The views are amazing and worth the quads burning for the next 3 days. The visitor's center is really nice. There is of course a gift shop. a huge display of taxidermy of all the local wildlife and a very nice museum that goes through the history of the region. The most important part is they have air conditioning. Suck it up, take the stairs and buy the t-shirt saying you did it when you are done.

It was wonderful having the whole place to our group since there were maybe 40 people alogether and apparently up to 600 people are maximum capacity. We had plenty of turns on the slides, time in the pool, and the concession window was operating as well. Yummy ice cream. There were a lot of lifeguards around to ensure safety; probably more than we needed. The kiddos had a blast. Who knew you could rent a waterpark? I hope we get to do this again! Happy yelping!

I didn't realize that we couldn't drive all the way to the trailhead so we had a long hike in store due to me having to carry my toddler most of the time. I should have re-read the previous reviews before coming. My friend did help me carry her as well and for that I was very thankful. So definitely don't recommend this hike with a little one unless strapped in a carrier. Also, I don't recommend it for the elderly either. It's definitely a wilderness hike deal with roots and elevation change. In fact, it's mostly downhill on the way to the falls, but on the way back it's pretty much all uphill, which was not fun with aforementioned young child. It's about a half mile to the actual trailhead and then another 0.7 mile to the falls. That's about 2.4 miles round trip. The reason of course that my boys absolutely became enamored with this place is the large swimming hole. It is wonderful and has plenty of space. The waterfall itself is beautiful and although it's not as tall as others, its width is quite impressive. I was trying to get as close as I could and even noticed a hidden part of the falls inside of the rock structure. That was so cool!! The sand at the base and shore give it a beachy vibe. We definitely packed it in and out making sure not to leave anything behind as to preserve the area as best as possible. Needless to say we were wiped by the time we made it back to our vehicles, but we're still glad we decided to venture here. Coming back with my hubby and boys in the very near future. Happy yelping!

Tugaloo State Park-Georgia…read more A large state park near Lavonia and Toccoa, Georgia off of I-85. Pronounced "Two-ga-low" according to locals we asked. Located on Lake Hartwell, this state park features 105 campsites and 4 bath houses. Cottages and yurts are also available to rent. All rv sites are well shaded and many have nice lake views. Each site has water, electric and cable tv hookups(although our cable hookup did not work). No sewer hookups but there is a double lane dump station near the campground entrance. The park staff we met were friendly and helpful. The park has a rec area with a swimming beach, a mini-golf course, tennis courts and several picnic shelters. There are two boat ramps in the park but we saw many people just beaching their canoes and kayaks on the shore behind their campsites. We also saw people fishing from the shore and from boats. We were in site 7, a lakeside pull through. The gravel drive was sloped some but relatively level midway in where we set up. The pad area with the fire pit and grill and large table was somewhat smaller than we have found in other Georgia state parks, but it was just a few steps down an incline from our back door to the lakeshore. This was a pretty quiet park but the low rumble from I-85 could be heard from across the lake from where we were. There were a few hiking trails but bikes were not permitted on the ones we saw. However, the paved roads inside the park made for nice e-biking. Toccoa is about a 20 minute drive. It is a nice small town and has just about anything you might need(groceries, pharmacies, restaurants, a WalMart, etc.). Lavonia is a bit smaller town but its also a bit nearer to the park. went into Toccoa and toured the Currahee WWII Museum downtown. Toccoa and nearby Mount Currahee were the home of the 101st Airborne Division's training operations during WWII. There are also some waterfalls in that area but we did not get to visit those. Should you go into Toccoa, if you enjoy country cooking, don't miss the M&J Home Cooking Country Buffet for tasty lunch or dinner. The weather was great when we were there in mid-October and the public areas in the park were not crowded at all.

But the cabins are awesome and right on the lake. Very cheap per night also because you can sleep so many people in them. They also have full kitchens and bathrooms. Theres a frisbee golf course here too which I have yet to try. if you go here for the golf though you will enjoy yourself, the course is awesome. At&T has very weak if any service in the park so plan accordingly.
