My daughter recently moved alone halfway across the country. Decided to order an Italian gold charm for "good luck and protection." Along with a gold necklace. Hopefully like baby shampoo it'll bring smiles and "no more tears!" Cassidy offered to order the exact charm of interest. She suggested several styles and lengths of chains. She offered to wrap, include a personal note and ship the insured gift to my daughter's new location. Tiny diamonds means tiny prongs that will ruin your life and snag everything they come into contact with. So I did significant research and visited every jewelry store in town. Herteen has a jeweler they work with in new York that will literally make anything you want at a great price. Long story short, I got what I wanted for about $1000 to $1500 less (50%) than the other stores I visited. They do great work, and get it done quickly. My band took 3 weeks (other stores quoted me 6 to 8 for custom work). Everyone I spoke to was really helpful, and Kristin was really responsive via email. They unsoldered my current band, resized and re-rhodium plated my engagement band, tightened my prongs, and soldered my new band on for no additional fee. Love this place! They have a surprising selection of bands and engagement rings for the size of their store, also. And they carry a lot of Gabriel & co., which is pretty nice stuff.

Before cleaning it Miriam checked it for loose stones and noticed that two were loose in their setting. It was a problem I had had before with the ring, but thought had been corrected by a previous jeweler. Miriam was very helpful in clearly explaining why the stones were loose and even showing me under magnification what the issue was. Though I am not from the area, I visit regularly for business, so I decided to have her do the adjustment to my ring to correct the problem. Just before the work was done she gave me another call with more detail and a few more ideas for my ring. Once we decided which route to go, the work was done within the time frame she had estimated for me (which was important since I wanted to time my ring being done with my next visit to the area). I was very pleased with the quality of work done. She made sure to let me know that she would check the ring in the future at no charge to make sure the stones remained set as intended. Throughout the entire process, from the time I first walked in the door until after I'd picked up my ring, the most impressive part of the experience was the effort and care Miriam gave to me as a customer. I felt she was very invested in making sure that I understood what my options were. She listened carefully and was understanding of what my priorities were, and she offered helpful suggestions based on the feedback I gave. My experience was a fairly simple jewelry repair, not terribly complex or expensive. If she put the amount of concern and attention to detail into something as small as my issue, I am completely confident that she would be a terrific resource for someone looking for custom jewelry or someone wanting work done on an heirloom piece.

On Wednesdays I wear pink so I brought my diamonds in to get appraised. I've been called a diamond…read morein the ruff-As if? Anyways, I also brought in a beautiful tangled gold Jesus necklace....Tangled happens to be my oldest daughter's favorite Disney movie...so Cook's is handling both of those and will call (not send smoke signals) when they are ready. I also noticed they buy gold (Reminds me of the business rap on YouTube tv "We buy gold boy" in Augusta, Ga...(where the Masters is and the only golf I watch all year). Check out their YouTube vid vid~it's hilarious. There's lots of selection and I did some detective work because I live to examine pictures down to every last detail. I wonder why they bought something, ate something, I even try to smell everything, and I determine whether something is done in the microwave by smelling the heat....anyone else out there like that; Call me and we'll watch some ESPN...it's fun alone but would be funner with you! I can tell this business is doing something right because they've been open almost as long as my Grandma Sederquist; 100 and a half baby! Her secret was shopping and fatty sausage so I hope I'm making her proud. Cooks is located in the old school IC and you can grab lunch at Donald's, the old Long John Silver's is now Jimmy Jacks, Two Dogs Pub, Wendy's (my favorite customer service guy), or Panera. I admit it I love soup in the dogs days of summer just as much as in the middle of winter....if a school had soup buffet...I'd def want to work there. Okay, I'd work there for an oatmeal cream pie too; that Little Debbie sure knows what she's doing. Since I already ate lunch I once again browsed the Dollar Tree across the street looking for those odds and ends you may need for your house. They really have everything there with totally super friendly staff that just make you smile:). I left with a recorder ( ya know from like 3rd grade) and I practiced hot cross buns in the car and I'm a little rusty BUT it's a perk to have the summer off to rejuvenate because I run on empty all year trying to get my girls to everything and making sure they have what they need. Iowa City Community School District is where I work and they are some amazing, selfless people who have helped me the last 17 years and I did't even use my help card. Thanks for using the promoting hierarchy with me because with independence and self regulation nothing else is going to matter. Thanks for believing in me....so come on by...while the applications are still hot (& you didn't get red tagged). Rookies and veterans needed because we really need everyone; everyone in this community together makes Iowa City the best place to raise a family, work, retire, or go to college. My Mom most certainly went to college but she was also a stay at home Mom. It really doesn't matter; we need everybody! But if you're in need of a totally one of a kind or colorful accessory for yourself or loved one-- Glassandro should be a store you stop in. Personally, I adore Murano glass jewelry. And this is one of the few brick and mortar shops I know of in the area that carries it. However, Glassandro is much more than glass jewelry -- it carries a wide variety of bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings. There are semi-precious stones, alternative metals and meteorite jewelry. I was awestruck of the naturally expired butterfly wing jewelry. So, so beautiful and unique. Definitely worth the money and reversible to boot. (I guess I had never realized the back side of butterfly wings were darker for night cover and also stunning.) I bought a pair for my mom and she loved them as much as I had hoped she would. The staff was very friendly and really knew about all of the pieces in the store. Pricing seemed reasonable, especially because the jewelry that lives in this store is so darn different. I was not expecting to get that discount and it was a nice surprise. The associate I communicated with (I'm assuming she was the owner) was friendly, helpful, and patient. I received my order quickly. I love supporting small businesses and this is why. I love this shop and I'll shop here whenever I can!

First off, the storefront and sign are eye catching. And while Beadology Iowa changed names like a decade ago, this go-to bead store has lived in Iowa City for over 30 years. I walked in and was greeted with a smile. (That's always the best, isn't it?) As a non-jewelry maker I was amazed to see the different materials the beads were made of? Like; stone, pearl, metal, organic, glass, chrystal and one-of-a-kind flamework beads. WOWZA. Beads. Beads. Beads. Everywhere! Organized chaos of every color and from all over the world. There was eclectic jewelry for sale throughout the store-- which was made in house? I believe. Plus, an assortment of tools for jewelry making and other supplies. The staff appeared to be super knowledgeable, but I mean-- it's not like I'd have known :) The thing that really impressed me was just how passionate everyone I chatted with seemed. They were definite artists pumped to educate me on their craft. Classes are offered-- which I definitely need to hit up sometime. Wirework, stringing, knotting, flame-work, glass work, etc... Beginners and professionals are welcome! (Just be warned parking COULD be a concern at this location!) Overall, this rainbow store had a non judgey, creative vibe. And even thought I knew nothing, I felt ok coming in just to peruse while an obvious avid customer shopped along side me.
