O wrote a review on Goggle when I used to be a patient here. More than 3 yrs ago. I saw the Doctor herself a couple of times and all the other times I'd see the NP. My experience with her directly was great. But the way they run the office is horrible!! Legally.. they have to tell you when they are running late for your appt. Not here!! I would book an appointment for my lunch hour and I would be here 2-3 sometimes more hours!! So I left. Now today..y mom asked me to come with her to this new ob and when we got here I'm like oh great!! I explained to my mom why I didn't go here and she said her first visit she waited 4 hours. The day I came with her. She had to have a specific thing done during her visit and they knew this. The NP couldn't do it and after already waiting over an hour, they told her to come back later on in the day to see the Dr. we came back and again it was a waiting game. With no where to sit. Then today my mom had to go back. We waited for an hour when I went to ask, the lady at the front said oh yeah. They are backed up because the NP is alone. So why not tell patients!'?? My mom is elderly. She is a diabetic. The answer shouldn't be (cause I heard them tell another patient) you can always make another appt. Are you gonna charge another copay since it's your fault then there shouldn't. Why not stick to your appt time? No respect for people's time. Is it free? Dr Olanescu and her staff are an embarrassment to the medical profession. First of all the waiting room reminds me of a the DMV. The room is jam packed with patients that spend less than 5 minutes with the doctor and are moved through an intake assembly line. That was my first sign to run, but I had taken the day off from work and I needed to move forward with scheduling my surgery. Any doctor that schedules 20+ patients in a waiting room cannot provide quality care. I was referred by another doctor and should have read the over whelming number of negative reviews and would have saved myself the waste of time and placing my health in the hands of Dr. Olanescu who is driven by profit and was willing to take every opportunity to bill my insurance with a complete disregard for my health. I went in for a consultation for a very large fibroid removal that was causing me severe pain. I needed surgery right away as the fibroid was causing me intense pain daily. Dr Olanescu said that I should wait three months for the surgery, but was going to give me a monthly shots that cost $3,000 each shot so the shots would reduce the fibroid size. The shots were not going to eliminate the fibroid - surgery was the only way it made no sense to wait and prolong my pain. It did however make sense financially for Dr. Olanescu $9,000 in shot therapy plus the surgery and additional office visits. I'm glad that I listened to my intuition and common sense. Fibroid removal surgery is a common surgery and there was no need for the shots other than to unnecessarily bill my insurance. The fact that Dr. Olanescu treatment plan was a 3 month delay for my surgery is unethical and shocking. I went to another doctor for a second opinion and had my surgery scheduled very shortly afterward. The other Yelp reviews are very concerning and I would not be surprised if Dr. Olanescu has medical malpractice complaints. read more

I've never met a more wonderful woman and doctor than doctor Olanescu! I've been under her care for over 15 years and that says a lot about her practice . I've started seeing her in my 20s for birth control (iud) and the 2 years ago removed my birth control in her office to try for another baby. Her staff has always treated me kindly and went above and beyond to help me through my pregnancy. Doctor Olănescu's methods are very thorough, I'm 37 with asthma and hypertension and she had monitored me constantly throughout my pregnancy. On November 4 she delivered my second son and I could not be more grateful. She gave me the strength to push when I thought I couldn't. She is simply amazing and she will be with you every step of the way because she is a wonderful woman, outstanding doctor and a mother of 3 herself! read more

I was a patient for 10 years now however I've moved completely and I had to look for a gyn .On April 2, I called the office and politely asked for my medical records to be released to my new doctor. I then was email the records form and I filled it out and sent it back. However, your office was supposed to fax my medical records back to my new doctors. I've waited about two weeks after my doctor called me and told me she's not received any type of form from my old doctor and then call the Astoria location again to find out the person that I spoke to said." oh our fax machine isn't working." in this case the right thing to do was to call me and let me know it's not working and I can simply take care of it on my end since my office does have a fax machine from April 2 to April 29 that's how long it took to fax one paper over. its being back-and-forth for a month now I called today the woman on the phone after I asked for her name and whoever I spoke with, she stated to me" I don't need to give you that because you are no longer a patient here" that is not the point . phone calls was exchanged in April 2 April 14, April 17, April 21 April 22 and today as well. I have records for everything there is no reason why a patient should wait a month for a medical release form to be sent over fax if not fax then they had the address it could've been mailed out or any of the sort. This is not acceptable especially in the medical field. God forbid I go to my doctor and they told me I came too late for something this will be bad. I hope you understand where this is going. The people I've spoke to was Saida.( sayeda ) Donna, who briefly picked up the phone and hung up or transferred me with out with out telling me any another person in the front which I spoke to that was very rude.faisha or something of the sort. This was my first and last time coming here. This place is horrible! My appointment was at 3:30pm, I got there around 2:40pm. They didn't call me to the exam room until 5:05pm! They wouldn't have even done that If I didn't tell the receptionist my appointment was at 3:30pm. I said I would give them until 5:30pm just to see if someone would at least say "hey the doctor is slightly busy she'll be rite with you". Instead I got nothing! I literally sat there and waited. If I didn't leave at 5:30pm I still would be waiting lol. If I could give Zero stars I would. I left work early just to waste my damn time here. Not sure how this place has any positive reviews other than them being fake. Most awful experience at a GYN I've had, I should have been suspicious when they had every appt. slot open... they don't. They are just farming for patients and will have you piled in the waiting room (there were 19 patients waiting) with no AC. They have you fill out a pile of paperwork, half an hour later you get called to basically do an intake? Where you repeat everything you put on the forms to someone (respectfully) who is not a doctor/nurse. You are expected to go into detail about your symptoms and health history out in the open with a dozen people walking by and another patient sitting 3ft from you doing the same. I had to out right say I did not feel comfortable explaining anything further without privacy. Wait another half hour or so and you get taken into an exam room. A step BACK in time, and even hotter. The 5min I spent with Dr. Olanescu were "good" but unclear on what and why things were happening. Got sent to another waiting area, where in the room with an open door 2 women were on speaker phone yelling about how to code someone's test through insurance, for the 20 min I was waiting, in violation of HIPPA as they mentioned the patient name, DOB, and several IDC codes including what they were for to the whole office to hear. The next tech? I say tech because I am not confident she was a Dr., no name tag, no introduction, seemed to be a language barrier that was unsettling when you are there to see a doctor, probably why she didn't explain at all what she was going to do (because she couldn't). All she said was, I kid you not, "do you need to pee pee?" and "undress and coverup." When I asked why we were doing this exam, she just didn't answer, expressed I wished Dr. Olanesco had explained what we were doing, no response. At which point I felt like I was not getting care by a qualified person and got dressed to leave. The whole place seems like a an insurance claim mill, making excessive appointments, with only a few minutes with the doctor, ordering extra test that aren't need without explanation, and when I asked How I would get my results, the receptions quickly said "we'll make an appointment in 2 weeks." Taken aback, again, I said the doctor said they would come back within a week, and she then wanted to make an appointment next week. I expressed I would like my results and if something was wrong I'd make a follow up appt, they insisted you have to make an appointment (more to bill insurance and then fall back on the patient). I don't believe they can refuse to give you your results - left with such a bad taste in my mouth and nauseous from the heat. Pass on this place! read more

Over a year later: The office failed to return any of my emails or phone calls regarding the fact that I was billed for my second visit even though they literally forgot me. I initially appealed the claim with my insurance company but it was rejected for whatever reason (claims often are at first, I learned), and so at the time of this review I'm sending them a check via UPS (so that I can track it when they inevitably misplace it, and also because wild horses could not drag me back into that office) and including a printout of this Yelp page. I have a baby and work full time outside our home, so given how precious little time and energy I have for anything that isn't my child it makes more financial sense to pay this bill. Based on my experiences I strongly suspect that this office relies on income from people like myself and other patients who ultimately wind up paying erroneous charges in order to put as much space as possible between themselves and these grossly unprofessional people. Even if that's not the case - and you know, I sincerely hope my suspicions are not true because I am aware that for too many women their options are limited - this office is still incompetent AT BEST. I'll start off by echoing all of the other reviews: yes, the wait is long. You're going to have to wait around 2 hours. From what I understand, she works in a hospital and comes into the office as soon as she's done at the hospital, but it can vary depending on what's going on there (births, emergency appointments, etc). Since she's always late, the office should probably adjust their hours. People start coming in around noon, and by two the waiting room is full. I've never seen anything like it. It seems like she wants to pack in as many patients into her day as possible. That being said, the office staff has always been EXTREMELY kind to me. Some reviews say the girls are rude, but I'm sure I'd be a little fed up too if people were always angry about the wait and asking when the doctor will be in. The doctor herself is kind, pleasant, and apologetic about the wait. She keeps her time with you very brief and works quickly, I'm assuming to get through the massive amount of patients that are waiting. I've been here 3 times, and the first two times I waited around 2 hours each time. The third time, I didn't need to actually see the doctor because I was just going over results with someone else (I think she was a NP) and I was in and out of the office within 20 minutes which I was pleasantly impressed with. If you're going to come here, lower your expectations and be prepared to wait and you'll have a fine time. read more

Dr Olanescu just delivered my first born son yesterday at New York Presbyterian. Me and my girlfriend are so happy with our experience with her. She came in the room and made us feel so comfortable and encouraged my girlfriend that the baby would come out nice and easy even after the doctors said she was very narrow and might have to do c-section. Dr Olanescu delivered the baby in 15 min from the moment my girlfriend started pushing. We will be going to her for every baby we have from now on and highly recommend her to anyone. read more

Worst GYN I've ever been to in my life. First time I went to her office I waited over and hour to be seen and then she spent about a total of 5 minutes in the room with me. I had concerns and questions, but she was out the door before I could say anything. When I got better health insurance I changed doctors, but recently left my job to help family in NJ so was back on Metroplus. I scheduled an appointment to see her, explained the whole situation to her staff, and came in from out of state. After waiting 1.5 hours her office manager told me that Dr. Olanescu was refusing me as a patient because I had changed doctors. I was further told that by changing doctors it showed that I didn't "trust" Dr. Olanescu's practice and she did not want me to return to the practice if I hadn't liked the prior service. What a baby!!!! What a waste of my time!! Now I still have to find a doctor and will be making another journey back to the city. Do yourself a favor get a more professional doctor that practices proper medical ethics and bedside manner. read more

Dr. Olanescu is a fabulous doctor, but I was treated very poorly by other staff. My appointment with Dr. Olanescu was great, however, after getting additional tests while in the office, no one explained to me afterwards what my results were or what my next steps were. I was told I was fine to leave, and that I had prescriptions waiting at my pharmacy. No one ever explained what they were for, and when I called to try to understand why I was being given medication, I was spoken down to very rudely and very condescendingly. Additionally, I had to wait at my pharmacy for over an hour because both I and my pharmacy were put on hold for over 30 minutes and then hung up on. Dr. Olanescu is a fabulous doctor, but the office is so poorly run that unfortunately I will not be returning. read more

Sum: This was my first and last visit here. Nothing catastrophic happened, but there have to be far better alternatives. Wait times: I was here for a regular visit. I waited one and a half hours for my appointment and I was one of the lucky ones. I was getting ready to walk out after 90 minutes, but they called my name at 89. Another patient in the waiting room ordered lunch delivery--bad sign, or really bad sign? They clearly overbook the appointments to an extreme. Based on the other reviews and what I overheard there, this is typical. If you dare to go, bring a book (I had my laptop). While sitting there, ponder healthcare reforms that will encourage doctors to be better staffed. Personnel: All the staff I interacted with were fine and the doctor was very pleasant. My interaction with her was pretty straightforward and short, so I can't speak about her much beyond that. Dubious Tests: Upon checking in, I was asked for a $15 copay for the visit plus a $15 copay for an ultrasound. Huh? I questioned the ultrasound because I am not pregnant, but the receptionist said it was a standard test for every visit. That seemed bogus and I verified my hunch via text with my doctor friend--an ultrasound is not a standard test given during an ordinary gyno visit unless there's a suspicion of something. (Seemed more like a way to take up more time and money.) I said I'd ask the doctor about the test before committing to it. The doctor never even brought it up, so I didn't bother. Either she forgot to ask, she thought I'd already had the test, or she knew it was nonessential--none of these scenarios are particularly satisfying. Misc: It gets crowded (since way overbooked), and seems a little messy--a burned out lightbulb in the front bathroom (which was fixed while I was there), no soap in the front bathroom (or even a mounted dispenser), paper towel roll on the sink instead of mounted (easy to knock over). Small but noticeable things, and you have time to notice them. read more

I would give - starts if I could. The only thing that I was trying to do was to get a birth control pill and she wasn't able to give me. She didn't spend more than two minutes with me and than somebody from the staff came to the room and threw on my box of medicine to get me pregnant. Is that a joke? She is a butcher not a doctor. No matter what you're coming in for, you're always going to wait 2+ hours. Every time I have a 10am appointment, I arrive 5-10 min prior, and the staff is just arriving as well. They could never tell you how long the wait is because "their system doesn't give that information". I got here one morning and was the second person; I waited and waited as more patients trickled in, no one was seen for more than an hour (there's no damn reason why we should be waiting that long when we're the first patients to arrive and NO ONE was being seen). I went here because I'm pregnant. The first time was the only one time that I saw Dr. Olanescu. About her: she was nice, she answer my questions, she is a quiet person but she was doing everything like in a hurry for finished. This doctor is only affiliate to Flushing Hospital so if you live in Astoria of LIC and are pregnant keep this in mind. The staff is average, if you go there I would reccommend you have copy of everything and have a diary of your appointments (procedures and whatever) because they are very interested in your pocket. The waiting time it doesn't matter what is approximately 2 hours. I never spent less than 2 hours here and the waiting room is always busy. The ultrasound technician is great. She is a knowledgeable person because she makes the role of the doctor most of time. During my appointments she was the only one I always saw about everything related to the baby. After this appointment I received the explanation of benefits statement from my insurance company that shows how the office billed me and how much it cost...... WELL.... they charged for things not even done!!!! I was charged for blood tests when I DIDN'T have blood drawn!!!!!! I was charged for a breast exam that WASN'T performed. Last week I booked an appointment with Dr. Andrea Olanescu (23-22 30th Road, Astoria NY) on Tuesday, March 14th through ZOcDoc.co and when I got to the office no one was there. I called the office and the doctor directly with no answer and no one called to cancel me. There was a snow storm in NYC but I received a confirmation text from ZocDoc that morning confirming my appointment. I went out during a dangerous storm to make an appointment that was confirmed and they did not care enough about their patients to reschedule. Considering the weather circumstances, I re-booked because I understood it could have been an oversight that I wasn't canceled. I had an appointment today and when I got there for my 10:35am appointment I was told I had to be "put in the system" and the doctor wasn't going to be in until after 12:30pm. The staff did not seem to care at all and they are completely unprofessional. This is the second time I had to take time out of my work day to go to an appointment. First off, this is a rating of the doctor, rather than any waiting room experience, online system, or any disagreeable office staff member. Secondly, our experience was not as a general ObGyn, but as, specifically, helping us into and out of pregnancy/childbirth. Next: Those expecting a cold, stale, 'professional' experience are a. Going to be sorely disappointed so just MoveAlongNothingToSeeHere / ThisIsNotTheDoctorYoureLookingFor; b. not aware of the respect, magic, warmth, etc. of having a personalable Marcus-Welby type of an old fashioned doctor-advocate experience; c. Unappreciative of old world style & bedside manner mixed with modern medical know how. Because that's very much what you get with Dr Andrea Olanescu. Is she the best at keeping a professional office, at cracking the whip on office staff, or keeping paperwork straight? I should have definitely believed the other reviews instead of giving this pathetic excuse of a "doctor" the time of day, but being it was a hospital referral, I thought she would have been credible. I love Dr. Olanescu so much and everyone at the practice. I came here as soon as I was pregnant and they treat my husband and me with so much care and love. The practice is very busy and we are always prepared to wait a little when we arrive because she and her team will never turn a woman away. This place is horrible and has no sympathy for any of their patients. Was admitted to the hospital for a possible ectopic pregnancy and was by the hospital to follow up with Dr Olanescu. I called Friday when I was discharged for an appointment for Monday. I was then called a few hours later by a woman telling me that I needed to reschedule because the doctor was leaving early. I rescheduled for Thursday. But then called back because due to the severity I wanted to make sure that was ok. I received the answering service which has Dr Olanescu's personal number. Reluctantly I called the doctor and she informed me that it was very important for me to come on Monday at 12. I arrived and the office and was told by the front desk they they didn't accept my insurance. I explained the situation so she called the office manager. After 10-15 mins the office manager comes out and hands me my ID and insurance card and says that they don't take my insurance therefore I couldn't be seen. Once again I explained the severity of the situation as well as the fact that I was instructed to come to this office and that the doctor knew what was going on. Flat out the manager said we can't see you. At that point I demanded to speak to the doctor and she said no problem have a seat. I sit down and in the waiting room infront off all patients this lady stated "you re not talking to anybody unless you pay." At that point all things went left.
