I'm a big fan of vintage dresses. I own several and they are generally my go-to for other people's weddings and fancy parties. So when I started thinking about a wedding dress, I wanted to try to find a vintage number that fit both me and my style. I was so happy to learn about Andrea's because I wanted to shop leisurely (not get into an ebay bidding war) and try thing on (even if the measurements seem right, it may not look good once it's on). The shop is loosely organized by era, but you can pull from any rack if something catches your eye. I especially liked Andrea's vision in seeing how a dress could be altered--different neckline, shorter length, a change to the bodice--to fit the designs I was most interested in. A nice, low-pressure environment, but don't bring your whole entourage. There really isn't room for more than one or two extra people, and the dressing rooms are pretty small considering the volume of some of the dresses. Obviously the assortment changes all the time, but the day I was there I saw dresses ranging from about $300 to $1600. I was incredibly impressed with the selection and enormous number of vintage bridal gowns at Andreas, I just came back from a trip to Minneapolis and ending up buying my wedding dress here and can't be more pleased with the service and quality. First thing as others have said the store is organized by era which is helpful and guesstimates as to sizing for each dress. Andrea encouraged me to try on about 20-25 dresses which was a shockingly large number but turns out very helpful when looking for vintage dresses. I came to the store with my fiance and future father-in-law both wielding cameras so not a typical bridal dress shopping group. It was a great time and I quickly narrowed my selections down to three and ultimately picked a gown I never would have thought would be what I would have liked a very 1950s dress with a good deal of lace and is perfect. I hope you are still reading at this point because this is the best part, they offer reasonable alterations done in the store so you can make your long sleeved dress short sleeves, sleeveless, etc... or anything else your heart desires. FANTASTIC! So really looking forward to doing that around Christmas time and I hope that everyone when looking for a wedding dress comes to Andrea, she has an adorable large white poodle named Pierre too! So go, I don't think there is anywhere else in the country where you can find such a great selection of vintage dresses. read more

I just bought my dress here yesterday and wanted to be sure to write a review before I forgot, because this was a great shop that I was happy to support. My mom and I came in on a Saturday (you have to call to make your apt and hours are limited). I recently got engaged and hadn't been to a "traditional" wedding dress store, so I was only expecting to try some on, and had no intentions of purchasing a dress that day. Right when we walked in, I explained our budget (which was $800 including alterations). Nik (Andrea's daughter) explained that we'd certainly find dresses, but a lot of the larger dresses with a many tiers or lace wouldn't fall within our budget. My mom was pretty surprised to see how much the dresses cost, considering how old they were, as they are technically used dresses. However, this isn't just a "consignment shop", they are meticulously cleaned and cared for. You can tell the dresses are known and loved by the store owner, and many have already undergone extensive changes and alterations, so you're paying for the upkeep and preservation of these dresses. And supporting a local, woman owned business- all wins in my book. I tried on quite a few dresses and Nik was great about explaining which decade the dress was from, so we both got a little history lesson too. I was on my 15th dress or so and Nik handed me a halter....which wasn't very appealing, but I tried it on and gave it a shot. It turns out that the halter wasn't my favorite, but with the halter tucked into a sweetheart neckline it transformed into a gorgeous dress, with an amazing lace bodice. And before I could fight it, I was crying in front of the mirror. And I did NOT expect to be crying over a wedding dress. Needless to say, we tucked it away and I picked it up last night. (they can only take cash or check, so if you don't have those with you, you'll need to come back) Overall, I got a beautiful dress that is unique and special. I had been considering ordering a JCrew dress, but the dress I found at Andrea's Vintage is so much more personal and has a great story and history. Plus, weddings cost a lot of money, even if you're incredibly careful with your budget, so I want to make sure I'm spending my money in businesses with philosophies that I support. This unique, local, mother-daughter shop is exactly the kind of store I'd like to see more of, and its a great alternative for a bride that is looking for something that's a little different and very meaningful for her wedding. What could bring me back from my wedding-related Yelp review hiatus? A fabulous, fantastic dress appointment here at Andrea's Vintage Bridal! When I came in on a Friday of a long weekend I was feeling a bit bogged down with all of the money we've been shelling out between wedding vendors and buying a house this fall. So it was more than a relief to find that many of the dresses here were within our budget, the 15(ish) gowns I tried on were all under $2500(most WELL under that) every one had great details or beautiful quality fabrics. That being said - it is a vintage shop - so the dresses range in various levels of preservation. Everything Nik (Andrea's daughter, who ran my appointment) has you try on is able to be recovered by the tailor that she works with....if you want to see the dresses that are beyond repair you can find those hanging in the restroom as decoration. Speaking of Nik, trust her! She put me in a ton of different styles of dresses and used my reactions to narrow in on the perfect dress. She is really great at helping envision updates to dresses that will help a vintage item really feel like yours and flatter you better. I'm very excited to start the alterations process...I tried on my dress at home and while I still love it, I can't wait to see it after all of the tweaks that Nik helped me imagine. read more

When I was getting married in the fall of 2010, I knew I wanted to do a not-so-ordinary wedding dress with a vintage feel. Fortunately for me, my tailor recommended Andrea's Vintage Bridal. I could not have been happier with my experience! After giving the shop a call, I set up a time to come in with my girlfriends and try on dresses. The shop is small and easy to miss, as it is one block off Lyndale by the CC Club. What is great about it, though, is that in taking the appointment approach, you receive one-on-one attention and there are no gawkers while you're trying on dresses. Upon arriving at the shop, we were greeted by Andrea, who helped us orient ourselves with the shop and asked a bunch of questions about what I was looking for. The store is divided up by era, so each rack features is a different time period, from the late 1800s on up. Plus, AVB also has a ton of cool jewelry, purses, hats, etc., so there is tons to look at and lots of options for accenting your dress. I ended up trying on dresses from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, and ultimately went with a beautiful lace, strapless "hippie" dress from the 70s. All said and done, I paid under $400 for my dress and couldn't have been happier with my experience. Plus, it was my first day of dress shopping, so not having to go to a bunch of stores made it even better. I did have a few alteations made to the dress (had it taken in, lengthened and removed flower buds), but that is pretty standard with a vintage piece, I think. Walking down the aisle, I felt so beautiflu and comfortable, and over the course of the evening, received lots of compliments on my unique dress. I really like the idea of sustainable fashion so rather having my dress turn brown in a box I donated it back for another girl to enjoy, It looked wonderful in my pictures and it was everything I wanted. Vintage is typically not my scene, so the dresses by and large did not suit my taste, but the service- as other reviews have mentioned- is fantastic. (Why did I come here if vintage isn't my scene, you ask? Let's just say David's Bridal is absolutely not my scene either. The Wedding Dress Market is a small pool, friends- a very small pool.) Nik was able to give us exactly the appointment time we wanted. She called me a few hours before to say that their parking lot was filling up because it was raining, and that she had saved me a parking space so I didn't have to find on-street parking when it was pouring. Um, AWESOME. We did have the whole store to ourselves, and there's a ridiculous selection. Nik was very responsive to feedback and knows that inventory top to bottom, so when the answer was, "No, not _____, maybe more _____" she was able to pull a dress that was in the right direction. I came really close to snatching up a dress made out of parachute fabric from WW2 that was totally unique and had a beautiful neckline, but: - Most of the dresses (if not all) in the shop need serious altering to fit properly. They're vintage- they only have the dress in one style and size- so that makes sense. But as a super busy person, I just knew doing multiple alterations in the middle of everything else was going to make my eye twitchy. - I was pretty surprised at how expensive the dresses were. I'm a thrifter, so expected vintage wedding dresses- especially when they didn't already fit and were going to need altering- to be cheaper than market-priced new dresses. Turns out they weren't- I don't think I tried on anything cheaper than $1,000. That is a LOT when the dress isn't even totally finished. But if you can rock the vintage look and you're happy to throw down for something ridiculously unique, this is probably your place! read more

Andrea and her shop are FABULOUS! From the moment we walked in the door, I felt Andrea's expertise and care for what she was doing. The one on one attention given with an appointment is superb. I tried on about 20 beautiful dresses. Andrea is great at picking things that will fit and flatter, and is very knowledgeable about what can be changed or added to the dress to make it your own. First off - when you make an appointment - you are the only one in the store. They are that dedicated to you - just you. Tell them about yourself, your wedding, your love story and they will find numerous dresses that fit what you are looking for. The problem is which one to pick! Ohh and most gowns are under $1000 - that is right ladies under $1000 :) Most of their gowns can be remade or altered (my gown had extensive altering). Wow! I cannot say enough about this amazing store! The customer service is wonderful, they truly listen to your ideas and are great at picking dresses off the rack to suit your style. They even let me look through the racks myself and pull dresses. The dresses are beautiful, each one very unique. They are great about carrying dresses that are in great condition. If there are any minor flaws in the dress, Andrea is the first to point them out and offer suggestions on how it can be fixed or altered. My partner and I had such a great experience working with Nikolina at Andrea's Vintage Bridal. I know as much about vintage dresses as the next decently hip, young Minneapolis resident. I knew it would take some work to make the dress what I wanted exactly (true for most dresses- unless you want to go with the fully authentic vintage look-also so cool!). I knew that vintage dresses were small, and I knew that they often had super poofy sleeves. Awesome. The dresses were all so fun and truly unique. The best part, however, was wonderful atmosphere that Nikolina created for myself, my partner and the rest of my little group. I absolutely was not not (NOT) looking forward to shopping for a wedding dress. Frankly- I was pretty grumpy about it. I hated the whole idea of being the center of attention and buying a fancy outfit made someplace far away that I would wear once. However, within the first 10 minutes I was completely at ease! This was not one of "those" wedding shops. Nikolina was the perfect combination of direct, knowledgeable and empathetic. She selected beautiful dresses for me to try on and I found several that I truly liked during the appointment. I ended up leaving with a beautiful dress the next day that I am very happy with! I could have probably gone on ebay and found a "vintage style" dress that met my needs for dirt cheap. But working with this business, with all of their knowledge and passion for what they do was such a great experience. It meant a lot to everyone there. Loved the personalized shopping experience--I made an appointment during the week and was the only customer there (with my friend who came to help me). Andrea is extremely helpful and wise. If you go, I encourage you to trust her suggestions and try on the dresses she hands to you. I ended up falling deeply in love with two very different dresses, and I don't think I initially chose either of them off the racks. In addition to the silver lace 1960's dress I finally chose, Andrea also provided me with a funky vintage metallic hairpiece. She has a nice selection of accessories that can compliment a dress of any era. This is definitely the place to find a gorgeous, unique dress (there are SO many styles), and you won't be pressured into a sale. Choosing: I sent a few pictures over of dresses I liked, but was blown away by the service on the day I shopped their racks. They let me try on probably 20 dresses and were excellent about taking my honesty on what was working and what wasn't. They helped me envision how we could recreate things, what looked good on me, etc. Especially if you don't have a mother or someone close to go with, they were just simply fantastic to help me think this through. 2. Pricing: Unbeatable. You will never find a dress so unique, well-fitting, and well-made as you will when you purchase your dress at Andrea's. Even if you think vintage isn't for you because you want something all your own, that's what you get! I completely reinvented my dress from what I purchased. Which reminds me, the on-staff seamstress Emily is magnificent! 3. Selection: It's huge. Dresses from all decades, long or short, ornate or simple, it's perfect for just about anyone's style. 4. This was the second place I went to try on wedding dresses. I had such a great experience here. First of all, I called to make an appointment and talked to Nikolina about what I was looking for and she explained the process to me and that it typically takes about 2 hours. I had a bizarre schedule the day I wanted to come in and she actually offered to open up a half hour early for me. Who does that!? Since I was on a tight schedule, she took down a lot of information (including the fact that I had a dress that I could not figure out if I liked) up front to save us time during our appointment. Nik pulled tons of dresses that I would never have thought to try on. She has an eye for how you could alter a dress to make it more you or fit your body better. I thought I wanted a short vintage dress and by the end of the appointment she had me try on a contemporary, strapless dresses and I could not believe it but that is what it turns out I liked and what I looked best in. She also convinced me to have a long dress w/a train ("when else will you ever wear a dress with a train!?") and to look into wearing a veil. I wish I could take Nik shopping elsewhere! I did not purchase my dress from Andrea's, sadly, because the dress just did not exist in their amazingly large, and affordable inventory (you can find beautiful pieces at $600-less than $1000) at the time I was there. They have SO much to choose from and so many options that you could make your own, I just wound up wanting a contemporary lace dress (note: they do have a handful of beautiful contemporary dresses) that I could buy any old place, and I didn't want to alter out the beauty of a vintage dress to dull it down. I'm really hoping to be able to do some alterations through Andrea's as well stop in to check out their amazing vintage hair accessories and veils. As other reviewers said, this isn't the place to bring everyone you know to watch you try on dresses, but there is for sure room for a couple of friends/family. I loved this place and would recommend it to anyone looking for a wedding dress... especially if you think you are 100% sure of what style you want, you might be wrong!:) read more

To be honest I was a bit apprehensive at first, but don't let the outside of the building fool you. Although a small intimate space inside it provides all you need for finding your gown. Nikolina provides excellent guidance in picking gowns that fit my taste. I tried on maybe 10-15 gowns and that's all you need because yours will be there. Let me be very up front: I am definitely biased, as I bought the first dress I tried on. The selection is small but varied. There are true vintage finds and vintage-inspired contemporary dresses. The prices are very reasonable compared to what you find in other vintage and bridal retailers. I came here after going to a couple of places where I tried on several dresses that felt like they weren't really me or my style with all the new looks out there. I was thinking I wanted something more classic, unique, and more comfortable. Nikolina must have some sort of ESP...because we didn't really talk at length and she asked me some basic questions and had set out 10 different dresses and based on that it was crazy that I like 7 out of the 10 of them! She really helped me narrow it down, and really captured me in the moment reiterating that I said that felt pretty in it. After trying to slim down for a while and really taking a backseat to clothes shopping it had been a struggle to feel like I looked good in anything. This dress did feel magical though. So when she asked me if I was saying yes to the dress, I couldn't even believe I got so emotional. My sister got to see me try it on, and asked Nikolina what year she thought it was made and she said 79 or 80 which is when me and my fiance were born so it was like perfect and meant to be! The dress had this charm and brought me back to the time when I felt like things were simpler and it just felt so euphoric and nostalgic. I loved wearing it, and it was so comfortable and fun. It was like Nikolina knew me and connected me to a feeling that I will not forget. I feel weird when I'm wearing something too... new, so I was really excited to find this shop. It's a great alternative to looking for a cool old wedding dress by spending hours thrift and vintage shopping, and it's waaay better than shopping ebay, where you can't try on or inspect your purchase before paying. Andrea is nice to shop with; she doesn't rush you to make decisions and she's creative when it comes to illustrating a dress's post-alteration potential. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Andrea's Vintage Bridal! I was looking for a unique wedding dress, and had been very unsatisfied with my shopping experiences thus far. As a Minnesota native, currently living in New York City, I had visited several New York boutiques only to be disappointed with the quality of the service, the staff's lack of knowledge, and the very high prices. After I booking tickets home to visit Minnesota I also made an appointment at Andrea's Vintage Bridal. My experience at Andrea's was fabulous! My mom, maid of honor, and future sister-in-law were able to go with me, and we all had an absolutely lovely time! Nikolina, Andrea's daughter, was so welcoming and extremely helpful! From the moment we walked in she gave us her undivided attention, and made the whole experience fun. For the first time in my search for a wedding dress I was able to enjoy the process of taking my time to look at gowns and try them on. Nikolina pulled so many beautiful dresses for me to try and offered extremely helpful styling advice when it came to many of the gowns. She was able to suggest so many ideas, such as the removal of sleeves, the remaking of a bodice, or adding a train. For the first time I was also finding unique dresses that I loved! Not only did the dress I ended up buying exceeded my expectations, but it was affordable and within my budget. Keep in mind, my rating is for the atmosphere, not necessarily the quality of clothing. I have shopped here before and bought a cute matching brown felt cowboy vest and brown felt material skirt for $10, a super good deal. However, my last visit was overshadowed by the apprehensive demeanor of the shopkeeper... I decided to take my friend shopping for clothes for her birthday. We have a similar style and I thought she'd love it here. However, the shopkeeper looked at us like we might run off with the wedding dresses. While we shopped it felt like we were being watched and scrutinized. We gave her our coffees so as not to accidentally spill anything as well. After booking our venue, officiant, DJ, and going on catering tastings for our September 2019 wedding, I still had not yet found my dress. And let me tell you, I was bummed. I had tried two different consignment shops, the Wedding Shoppe on Grand Ave, and David's Bridal, as well as spending several hours searching online for "the one," without much success. I was ready for something different. And, I had read all the reviews about Andrea's Vintage and Nikolina's talent of finding a one-of-a-kind dress for each bride, helping them envision the end result that could be achieved after any needed alterations. I was so excited for my appointment, and I definitely enjoyed the time with Nikolina once we got started. She was so knowledgeable and it was so easy to work with her. She made the whole process relaxed, fun, and mostly stress-free. My only regret was giving her such a strict price range. Even though all the dresses she picked for me to try fit very well and were affordable for, some of them just weren't quite the right style based on what I had told her (champagne/darker color, lace, small train). Needless to say, I did not find my dress in that line-up. As I got ready to leave, I saw the next set of dresses for the appointment after mine, including a few in champagne and lace, and I wished I had the chance to try them myself. But then again, I had told Nikolina my budget was such an important factor to me, and maybe the style I wanted was just outside my price point. So with that said, if you are looking for something vintage or just a unique dress, I still highly recommend making an appointment with Andrea's Vintage! Patient, listening, creative, spunky...everything you want in salespeople! I felt like they were my sisters by the end, helping me pull of a smashing success of a dress. I bought my vintage 1920s lace buttercreme dress here and found it on my first visit. Nicolina and Emily helped me alter it slightly and change the look in an a subtle but perfect way, and their commitment to getting that right was genuine and awesome. A great shopping experience! Andrea is gifted in her field. The inventory is limited in sizes and selection since the gowns are vintage, but it is impressively wide in scope. Andrea and her small staff help you find the best dress for you while having fun along the way. This may include ideas about altering pieces, in which Andrea demonstrates great insight. There is a selection of vintage jewelry and bridal accessories, but I did not get to those on the first trip. If you are a size 0-2, you will have a wider selection due to the smaller sizes of women in past decades, but I encourage anyone planning a wedding to make an appointment and enjoy an hour or two, or more, at Andrea's. read more

Nikolina was wonderful to work with. She helped me find my wedding dress in only one fitting. I came in with only a very vague idea what I wanted in a gown and she took it from there. She was basically like Pandora for wedding dresses, whenever I said what I did or did not like about a gown she was able to further hone in on the right dress. I tried on less than 10 dresses and had three contenders. She has an incredible eye and ability to come up with ideas to change a dress to make it your own. That being said I only plan to make very minor alterations for fit to my dress since it is perfect as is. I was really impressed at the number of dresses that fit me since I am 5 foot 7 and the average woman in the 1950's was 5 foot 2. Nikolina joked that "in Minnesota we are very blessed to work with tall grandmas". I didn't even bother with a modern bridal shop since I don't like any of the current styles (mermaid, strapless) or horror stories I have heard about customer service at David's bridal. Its staff helps you see the potential in every dress - and every dress is unique. Knowing that my dress has a story, was well-made with high-quality fabric, and is being reutilized rather than newly purchased makes me so happy! I brought my grandmother's 1941 wedding dress to Andrea's Vintage Bridal in order to have it repaired to wear at my own wedding. The in-house tailor, Emily Weber, did such a fantastic job with the repairs and the fitting. She took such good care of the dress and she listened to all of my concerns. Had an awesome experience with this store. The saleswoman showed such interest in my own individual taste, as well as the beauty and history of every dress I tried on. She was very kind and patient with my young nieces and nephew, who were excited to help me pick out my dress. Ultimately I did not find my dream dress at this store (vintage dresses tend to be smaller, as brides were smaller back in the 1950's, and I am a size 12), but was happy to have the experience. read more
