I love Midtown Global Market with all of my heart. I went last Friday for the first time in a while and have already been back 2 times already since then (it's now Monday). Midtown Global Market has been such a staple in my life. It does such a good job of having food options from so many cultures and parts of the world. The food is reasonably priced and the workers are all so kind and knowledgable. Beyond just food, there is a huge selection of art, groceries, clothing, and more. MGM has always felt like the ideal of what Minneapolis is and can be. I am sad to see a lot of booths closed right now. My heart aches for my neighbors and community. I hope (and know) that MGM can bounce back and continue to be a place of diverse community. Love MGM always. read more

While it's awhile since my last visit it's definitely still a staple and offers something for everyone from around the globe. This market shows a glimpse of the diversity of Minneapolis in such a beautiful and unique way! First, I love that they have a dedicated parking ramp and parking lot here. But also that there's so much to do, see, eat, and shop! They have a wide array of food options but several grocery stores, and so many service-centered businesses here as well! It was so much fun walking around exploring everything!! For food, I highly recommend the jerk chicken from Irie Jamaican Express - it's sweet, tangy, bold with a kick of spice! This place is my kind of place. It's diverse and welcoming to everyone. There are a lot of BIPOC vendors. There are so many food stalls with so many kinds of ethnic cuisine, a produce market, Halal meat, and some scattered tables to sit down and enjoy your food. I feel like it used to be much livelier years ago. I went this year to Volunteer and noticed a lot of places were vacant/closed. Seems like they are trying to bring people back by hosting more events (they've always had events but really pushing for the community to out). They still have some decent food options. Sad about Slice closing before I had to a chance to check them out. Still a few shops and produce vendors. I was born and raised for a bit in South Mpls and I find this area to be a bit challenging sometimes especially with them narrowing Lake Street down to single lanes. Makes me avoid the area as a whole. Definitely not MGM fault but generally unfortunate. You do have to pay for parking, ramp or metered. Or you could be lucky and find a spot around the neighborhood and walk over. read more

Parking is $2 for 0-1.50 hours and $4 for 1.5-2. You can find food stalls, a restaurant, market, clothing and product stalls inside. It reminded me of an indoor swap meet but much smaller. A directory of the businesses inside would have been helpful, I walked around and didn't see one and didn't order any food. I did come across a stall with natural bath products and purchased a few items. Some of the shops looked closed or I didn't see an employee inside. I was looking for vegetarian options and didn't notice any. Next time I'll review the website before arriving to view the list of merchants and check out their menus online. In town visiting relatives and we were looking for a place for lunch. My brother-in-law suggested this market that he had never been to but heard about in an old Sears building. There were a couple dozen food stalls of different ethnic types plus some other market and trinket shops. It was hard to tell how successful this place is since there were quite a few empty spaces but overall a nice concept. The big parking lot is a pay lot with just one pay machine so people were queued up waiting to pay which given the wind and cold was quite annoying. This place looks like it needs the business so parking should be free. read more

Love this place! It's like an international cafe and bazaar available every day. It's perfect for lunch if you're near the area. The only downfall is that parking is sometimes difficult so I have to pay $1.75 in the parking garage just to visit here. But it's so fun to take your time to walk around and check out all of the food and trinket shops. Service was friendly and efficient. And you really can't beat the selection, I was able to choose from Japanese (sushi) to pizza or Jamaican jerk chicken. There's something for everyone here! read more

Midtown Global Market is located on the 1st floor of the Midtown Exchange, formerly the 1920's era Sears department store in Lake Street and Chicago Ave. The building itself has beautiful art deco era utilitarian design. The market is comprised of numerous and varied international and culturally diverse restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores and artistic gift shops in a sprawling open space where walkways lead you around "the square", with a soaring and open ceiling space above you. Overcome by choices, I opted for the delicious Mexican Salsa Ala Salsa, but could have easily dined on the Morrocan, Asian, Arepa, torta or smokey soul food offered. There's a middle eastern grocery store offering a plethora of Mediterranean spices, sweets, rices and meats etc. The whole experience is very colorful and explorative. The Allina Hospital campus is connected to the market via skyway which is great for the winter months. read more

A fun little market with a nice mix of food options mostly Asian and Mexican from what I saw. It's not about high-end designer brands, but rather small, local goods that feel unique and are probably much more affordable than mall prices. There's even a small brewery inside where I ended up relaxing for a while. Even if you're not in the mood to shop, it's worth strolling through just to check out all the interesting things and enjoy the atmosphere. read more

What a find! Sadly we got there near closing and a lot of the places were already done for day. But the ones that were open were delicious. We started with the Moroccan stall, and ordered the meatballs (which had a better name I can't remember). Served with veggies and other sides, it was delicious. The people manning the stall (owners?) were also very nice. Next up we hit the Thai stall, for pad Thai. Our friends got this as well, and the one who grew up in Thailand said it was legit. He wasnt wrong! It was so good! The daughter also got a bubble tea, which she loved. We ended the evening with an arepa and yucca fries from the tapas stall. Midtown global market is a very cool food hall. They have a huge amount of variety in their food choices and a numerous amount of options. I think it would be fun to go with a group of friends because everyone can order exactly what they want but you can also sit at the same table. Service and value really depends on which restaurant you go to. I tried in town sushi when I was there and they were great. I was very tempted to try their boba or Thai tea. Parking isn't my favorite, they have one lot and it's a pay lot but they do have a few street parking options. I've been there a couple of times and one time they even had live music! read more

I'm not sure how I've gone this long without reviewing Midtown Global Market. Probably because I'm always so wowed by the experience that I forget! I love this place, I try to go at least once a year for a special occasion (last year it was for my birthday). They've got bubble tea, tacos, shopping and events (which we've never attended). There's always something new to find and everyone is so friendly. We love Moroccan Flavors and the aforementioned Vietnamese bubble tea (they can blend it! My favorite). We went there on Saturday at 11 there was only one place open . It was dead everywhere else . We came here in the past and it was nice experience, Moroccan food was good , Thai food was good, bakery was good. But non of that was open. The only stall that was open was the first store by the entrance. It was so disappointing that we came to try variety of foods and only one place is open. It said it all should have been open by 10 on their website... we even asked the security guard when they open the shops and restaurants and he confirmed 10. We won't be back , not worth hassle of going there if they are randomly open and 50/50 if they will have their restaurants/shops open read more

Located in Midtown Global Market, a great place for families with young kids! If you enter the front door, take an immediate right. That'll cut your search/options in half. Gourmet mexican sandwich? I was confused and interested. I ordered the Manny special and it came with expected Mexican toppings (tomato, avocado, cheese... etc), but it also came with sautéed onions and mushrooms. The combination was great, however the steak and mushrooms especially were under salted. I enjoyed my meal, and wouldn't mind having it again, but the combination didn't satisfy either of my moods. Did I want Mexican cuisine or a traditional hot sandwich? I was in a Mexican cuisine mood, and I was eyeing the blue tacos to me left (blue tortillas, or as my daughter re-stated, "no they're grey!!"). They were great as well! read more

Midtown Global Market is a multicultural indoor market with vendors that sell everything from art to food to clothing. In a place like Minneapolis where temperatures can be low for a good chunk of the year, it's nice to see that there's a large market that's available where locals and tourists alike can get the market experience *indoors.* While I enjoyed roaming through the different vendor stalls, the diversity of products available, and the seating areas (as well as outlets) that were sprawled across the space, I also was a little unsettled by some of the incidents I saw while I was there. There were a few verbal altercations I witnessed while I was there that were diffused by security guards before they became physical. It was a bit more chaos than I was expecting for a Thursday afternoon. I would be willing to visit again, with at least one friend next time, as this matter have been a one-off experience and I'm grateful that at least they have staff that try to make the place as secure as possible. While I have mixed feelings about the experience, the vendors that I did see m offered authentic products from different cultures which was quite unique! read more

I want to put my Mini Apples in your Midtown. The notorious, legendary, amazing part of Minneapolis - and probably the heartbeat of the whole area. They have the two markets here that define everything. The real Latin authentic Mercado Central, and then the touristy Midtown Global Market, which is a fantastic hipster food paradise with stuff from all over the world. So stop by here and give it a try, and check out one of the coolest neighborhoods in any City anywhere in America. In the Midtown, everything is either mediocre or good, try a bunch of stuff and figure it out - stay away from the hipster tacos though. In the Mercado Central, everything is dirt cheap and incredible. Try all the tacos, and definitely try La Loma for tamales. Almost gave it a 4 star because of sh** traffic issues tho. Just watch out for the insane traffic along Lake Street because it's really really really bad and don't even think about looking for parking because it's not happening. Midtown Global Market reminds me of Grand Central Market in Los Angeles, The Packing House in Anaheim and the like, but on a smaller scale. There are several eateries at the global market of different ethnicity so that you have a variety of choices to choose from for your dining needs. There is also a few shops and 2 grocery markets here. There is also a brewery (Eastlake Craft Brewery) here too. My husband and I decided to visit this market on our last night in Minneapolis, last month. We came on a Saturday, late afternoon around 3:45 pm. We were able to find (free) street parking (be sure to read the signs for limitations) and headed inside. There is a portion of this market that has a Middle Eastern influence with a few eateries, stores and a market. In the end, we ended up grabbing an early dinner at Moroccan Flavors (which I will write a separate review for). After dinner, I decided to purchase a grapefruit from one of the markets and an apple for the plane right home the next day (fruit is a great snack to have anywhere). Even though our visit at this global market was relatively short, we were able to walk around and see everything (it is kind of hard to make a choice where to eat when there are so many great choices) and experience this near little place. As my wife and I have travelled across the US we have loved stopping at local markets! To this point we have been to markets in Cleveland, Philly, and Indianapolis just to list a few. This market is not as large as some of the others but is cleaner and nicer. The size limits the variety but the quality of the vendors is surprising good for a market of its size. Unlike some of the other markets there is a parking garage located across the street which provides convenient access. We arrived early and had to wait for it to open at 10 am. That is a little long to wait for morning coffee... The food vendors we tried were Mapps coffee and Andy's garage. Both were great! If you like this place I would highly recommend the Market in Cleveland, OH! read more

Such a fun place for a tourist. I was in town for business so my co-workers took me here for lunch. I think the hardest part was deciding which place would get my money! There were a lot of options from around the world as well as options for full meals or even desserts. For lunch: I settled on Safari Express and a piping hot bowl of roasted camel. This was my first time trying camel so I can't really rate the quality of the meat but it was a decent dish. It's gamey, like goat meat. When you order the roasted camel you get a choice of rice with varying levels of heat. Mine was pretty dang spicy, I think it was the reddish looking rice mixture. I was hoping it would taste like jolloff rice (Nigerian party rice) but it wasn't quite like that. Next time I'll probably get something with less heat. The stew itself was full of large chunks of both meat and veggies, which were not over cooked. They were soft but not mushy. As far as seasoning, my taste buds were caught a little off guard by the heat of the rice so I mostly tasted the camel and the peppers. It took a while to get my meal and I don't exactly know why. I think maybe they were making more? Either way the man serving up my food and the others behind me was very kind and chatty. I washed it all down with a mango juice. Very tasty. I'd like to go back and try the camel burger everyone is raving about on here. I'm guessing it might be less gamey. Overall, it was a nice experience as I haven't had Somali food before. For dessert: My manager surprised us with a coconut macaroon from Salty Tart Bakery. HIGHLY recommend. read more

(5/5) Salty Tart - Go here for some baked goods. Try the plain croissants and coconut macaroons. (5/5) Hmong Handicrafts - They have really cute coin purses, bags, throw pillows, and other accessories and household decorations. They're also reasonably priced. (5/5) Taco Cat - I like how cheap this place is. The food is also really good. I recommend the pork taco. (5/5) Holy Land - The falafels here are so delicious. I would recommend those. (4/5) East Lake Brewery and Taproom - Cool atmosphere. Interesting brews. It's always busy here. They also have kombucha. (4/5) Hot Indian Foods - I like the seasoning in their food. It can get pretty spicy. The fries are alright but the sauce they give you with it is AMAZING. (3/5) Safari Express. I had their Chicken Fantastic. It was more like "vegetable okay." It tasted mostly like black pepper. I wish it had more going on. I did like their turmeric rice though. It was cooked well and looked amazing. I also had their mango drink. It was good. I have absolutely zero idea how this place is rated as highly as it was. I was intrigued to come here based on some things I read online, but I was very disappointed with my decision. As we were getting closer to this place I could kind of tell we were in the wrong part of town but figured that a hub like this would have some security. The building is definitely pretty old as you can tell from outside but still pretty cool to see. Street parking outside of the building didn't seem to safe so we went for the paid parking garage which seemed quite a bit safer. My sister and I were in here for less than five minutes and we're quick to leave. This place was a ghost town, tons of vendors are shut down and the place didn't smell the best. There really wasn't much options at all and the characters that were in here definitely didn't have a feeling the safest. Not sure how this place accumulated its reviews, but I wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

Lots of options but hard to navigate. Tried the chili bean soup at indigenous food labs, the masala dosa at mono dosa, and a blended Thai tea. Soup: very filling, very flavorful, very HOT (temperature). Took forever to be ready but was delicious when it was ready. Smokey flavor with this bean grain thing that was very interesting and yum. Dosa: very large. Not as good as my friend made for me at home but still enjoyable. The sauces were meh. Thai tea: very good. Blended. Wonderful. My teeth were in so much pain from shifting between hot soup and cold drink but so well worth. Ambiance of the place is very cute. Lots of cute little stores and places to eat. It is a bunch of take out places serving non-US food. It is not very large and we went on a weekday for lunch, so most of the places were closed. The food was fresh and very good, but there were not many options. There are seats. Very few vendors were there, and some of the restaurants looked permanently closed. Racial profiling? My friend and I were literally chased down in Midtown Global Market today by security officers who were calling for backup on their little walkie talkies to corner us. They told us they had a 'complaint' that my friend and I were doing drugs in the bathroom. We are both mothers in our 30s. I'm a chemist and she's a computer scientist...we were catching up over coffee on a Sunday afternoon not 'doing drugs' in the bathroom. Our professions or parenthood shouldn't be what shields us from profiling, but it's just to illustrate what an immense stretch it was. We are ACADEMIC AUNTIES...but I'm a Native American woman and my friend is a Black woman and we both look young for our age...and dressed in casual comfy sweats...I wonder why they assumed we were drug addicts considering there was no evidence at all to indicate such? Very cool place! Loved the variety of the different ethnic foods. I thought there would be more shopping, but there wasn't as much. Cool little grocery market in the middle to shop at though. We stopped in the brewery and it was nice, good selection of brews. Tried some Mexican popsicles that were really tasty. I tried some African food, and my husband got Indian food.
