Ordered two items: chocolate waffle cone and mint chocolate. Chocolate waffle cone was excellent as expected. The mint chocolate tasted like someone accidentally poured a bottle of mint extract into our serving. Had to throw it out after one bite. Didn't get to try it until we got home so didn't get to address it onsite. Tried calling to just let them know that it may be an off batch but the phone number listed didn't work. Wow!! I loooove me some ice cream, so when I was in Columbia for a quick work trip, I sat at dinner and typed in "dessert" on Yelp. I saw Andy's come up and was sold when I looked at the pics. I could tell right away this was an ice cream joint right up my alley. I love frozen custard and we don't have as many local joints here in Ohio. As I was looking at Andy's website, I quickly saw it was a chain (with none in Ohio!! Booo!). I knew I had to take this opportunity to check it out. It was so good, I actually ended up going there on back to back nights on my two nights in Columbia. The first time I opted for the Tiger Streak Concrete (for DQ fans, it's basically a blizzard). It had all of my favorite things mixed into delicious creamy smooth vanilla custard! Caramel, hot fudge and oreo cookies! The hot fudge made the ice cream melt faster than normal, but they put it in an oversized cup (a Mizzou cup!) which made it easier to eat as it was melting. The second night I went super plain and got two scoops of vanilla and two scoops chocolate with nothing else. It was FANTASTIC! Probably some of the best "plain" ice cream I've had. It was so creamy and fresh (I believe on their website, they say they make the custard fresh daily). I loved it! Honestly, from here on out, whenever I travel for work, you can count on me looking up the area to see if there is an Andy's nearby. Can't wait until my next trip! I love this place and always try to convince people to stop by. As someone not from St. Louis, I can recommend this place as well as Ted Drews and not be pelted with rocks. The custard is nice and smooth and a size small is still a LOT of custard. My favorites are the brownie concrete that has real big pieces of WARM brownies evenly dispersed throughout, or you can get one large brownie at the bottom. They generously coat the outside with warm fudge. The salted pretzel is also really good, just replace the brownie with real pretzel prices and you get a great crunch and mix of textures. I don't know how they stop the pretzels from getting soggy, one of life's mysteries. If you're feeling healthy, I would recommend get a kid's size Sundae, it is less than 200 calories and you can feel less bad about it. When I first saw drove past Andy's (not seeing Frozen Custard on the sign), it looked like a renovated 60's diner. I was like..."Cool! They must sell great hamburgers there!" The next day I decided to go check it out...HEY, it's not a diner but a cute lil frozen custard place!! This place gets straight A's in the art of making frozen custard!! I find this place to be BETTER than Ted Drewes in St. Louis and I'm FROM St. Louis (where people look at you funny if you don't love Ted Drewes!) The taste: Uhmm...SO DELICIOUS!! Supposedly their custard is made fresh by the hour! Everytime I go, I see it being churned from their custard machines. They have a variety of fruits and sweets to satisfy every type of palette. All of their fruits are fresh and blended perfectly with their custard! They have seasonal treats (summer: key lime pie; fall: pumpkin). Everything on the menu is a treat to the buds. Service: They always have about nine workers on the clock. They all wear matching white uniforms and their work areas are squeaky clean and so you'll notice that this place looks more like a factory than any ole ice cream shop! Location: It's tucked behind an auto repair shop and taco bell on Nifong and Providence across from Hu Hot. There is a drive-thru if you're too lazy to get out, as well as, a couple of walk up counters complete with benches. Expect long lines on nice weather days and the summer. This is my first time having custard and I love it! So creamy and rich like the secret lovechild of ice cream and frozen yogurt. It's kind of neat having this old style drive through, walk up location just across the way from Hyvee on the corner of Nifong. Check out all the different combinations but beware! Sizes run big and it may be worth sharing if you're already full from dinner. I tried the strawberry sundae special which had shortcake on the bottom, sweet strawberry slices on top and man...I wish I could have more now. Don't think of custard as custard- think of it as yummmmmm. Prices are pretty high though and that one sundae ran over $5. Finally had a chance to go to Andy's! My sis has been raving about this place for ages, but the experience was overall average.. If not a bit disappointed. Perhaps it was due to the high expectation...?! My sister, for some weird reason, got the Mint Chip Concrete which tasted like toothpaste. Oh boy did I feel refreshing after eating a scoop! I got the summer limited flavor: Strawberry Shortcake Concrete! Maybe because I've lived in the food snob Bay Area that thrive on everything fresh and organic for the past 5 years, for $7, I was expecting some organic strawberry compote generously drizzled over freshly baked fluffy shortcake but what I got was some premade syrupy strawberry with some bland dense cake. The vanilla ice cream was pretty tasty though. Note to self: keep low expectation no matter how great other says and everything will taste better... Much better. tldr: just get the basic. Andy's Frozen Custard was my jam when I was in college. When the weather is warmer, this place gets packed with families, college kids, and teens. That's probably the biggest downside but can you blame them? They make good custard. The service is pretty quick and always friendly. My absolute favorite item to get here is their turtle Sunday. They put pecans with chocolate and caramel syrup on vanilla ice cream. Now, I recognize this is probably common, but Andy's does it right. It's sooooo goood. I think this place has some great frozen custard. It's creamy, just sweet enough, and tastes more vanilla-y than custard-y. The atmosphere is great, though it does get busy (especially the drive-through) and is a bit expensive. You're looking at prices comparable to Cold Stone Creamery. If you want a concrete, I would recommend just getting a sundae and adding toppings, since the small concrete is a bit too large for me to finish by myself if I've just finished eating dinner. Very impressive custard in Columbia. I like this place better than Ted Drewes in St Louis. But maybe just my preference. The custard is very creamy and not too sweet at all, which I love. It is kinda pricey but I think very similar to other frozen custard places. If you love frozen custard, and who doesn't, this is the place to go, in CoMo. Reasonable prices, fast service, and custard that hits the sweet spot between too hard and pre-melted. My wife got a vanilla and I got a chocolate custard cup. Both were small size and they were $1.84 each, plus tax. Each consisted of two, decent size scoops, served in a plastic cup. Texture was utterly creamy, with absolutely no grain or odd textures that you sometimes find in custard. Flavors were true and right on the beam. One odd note. The drive through didn't have a speaker to order from. Instead, a very cheerful young woman periodically appeared at the back door, ran up to a car, asked them what they wanted, and then ran back in to input the order. We went to Andy's today as part of a fundraiser for the family of Chase Cowles. All of the proceeds of items sold between 3:30pm and 5:30 pm went to pay for his medical expenses and funeral. I'm told he was on a baseball team sponsored by the local Andy's restaurant and he passed away recently during surgery. We love Andy's and our son worked there for a few years during high school and college. The line was a 40 minute wait, but the weather was beautiful and the customers and staff were pleasant and patient. The manager said they would extend the time past 5:30 so that all proceeds would continue to go to Chase's family. I passed the time in line by chatting with nice folks who were admiring and inquiring about my daughter's french bulldog, Frank. He loves being social, meeting people....and if he occasionally stumbles upon some sticky kid faces and fingers....well that's just the cost of doing business in line outside a frozen custard stand! I ordered a small Almond coconut concrete - which was frozen vanilla custard, with chopped toasted almonds, coconut and melted choc chips swirled in. Divine! It was kinda like eating an Almond Joy candy bar swirled into ice cream but with way more freshly toasted almonds. It is my new favorite at Andy's - I used to always get The Tiger Streak. But this Almond Joy concoction is the bomb! Thank you to Andy's for its successful fundraising efforts and generosity towards a local family's tragic loss. My family owned a frozen custard stand in Ohio, and this is the best stuff I've had since ours closed. The custard is fresh, has a high fat content which makes it melt in your mouth and comes in vanilla or chocolate. The concretes are awesome (kind of like a DQ blizzard). Each month they have a special flavor. The best months are August and November when they mix in a whole slice of key lime or pumpkin pie in with vanilla custard. Aaaaaamazzzzzing!!! I also like that they have half size sundaes. The Ozark Turtle and Strawanna are both favorites. There is no indoor seating--only a drive through or walk up windows with outside tables. You'll feel like you're in Happy Days with the neon sign and music blaring. read more

What can I say? I love Andy's. I lived really close to this location so I went here all the time, sometimes several nights in a row. I even saved the cups they gave me. The trick to enjoying Andy's is to know each topping and add enough to make it taste great. I've had some crazy concretes in my day. The first time I went I went through the drive thru. If this is your first time going here, don't go through the drive thru. There is an employee that steps outside to take your order because they are always packed with customers. I didn't get a chance to really consider a choice, so I ordered the strawanna. I was really disappointed with my selection after seeing what my friend ordered, but I felt like I was put on-the-spot by the employee. I liked what I ordered, but I went back a few days later and ordered outside from the menu. The first concrete I ordered was a keylime cheesecake. It was two topping, but I really liked it. After that, I began experimenting with different toppings. Knowing what the toppings are like and how they are mixed can lead to the perfect desert. The concrete was the only thing I really ordered here, and I'm aware that not everything on the menu is that great. My friend ordered a rootbeer float once and we weren't very impressed. The drink was expensive for what he got and it was gone pretty fast. When I order a concrete, I can finish half until I get full and I save the rest in the freezer and eat it again later. There is no indoor eating here, all of the seating is outdoors. This place is so popular that the seating area gets swamped and the drive through goes down the street and beyond, so it might be a good idea to plan a backup idea for desert in case it's too busy. When it's cold outside in the Winter, standing outside can be the fastest way to get your order because you can avoid the drive through. I've done it before, it was pretty uncomfortable but worth it.
