When I contacted her, she was very responsive and sent me many examples of her portfolio. When we met with her, she was very professional and agreed to do a lengthy, multi-day wedding shooting. Fast forward to the wedding day, Nessa absolutely nailed the photos. She took beautiful candids but also managed to take scores of huge group photos of family and friends where everyone looked great and didn't blink somehow, and she did it in seemingly 1-2 seconds per group. She agreed to travel with the bride and groom to 2 locations during the wedding day (in between the ceremony and reception) and captured the most stunning autumn photos. Even though we didn't prepare for any couple poses, she shared fun ideas to make us seem more natural and it actually worked. She also was great at taking dance floor photos and everything in between. We received our plethora of beautiful photos through email and were so absolutely pleased. We would absolutely recommend Nessa as she is an expert behind the camera, super fun and easy going, and she helped us capture our day just the way we always pictured it.

For such a significant, exciting, yet potentially stressful event- there two essential things needed: mad photography skills, and a great attitude. Wendy has both of them in buckets (as does Liz her lovely assistant!). The photographs all turned out stunning, capturing the genuine emotion of the day with an careful attention to detail, an eye for catching all the little personal moments, and a beautiful glowing light throughout. The black and white photos are such a great addition; they are all well picked and have such a great depth and contrast. Just as importantly Wendy has such a great personality and ability to put people at ease; the constant laughter in the photos is evidence of that ("I want you to whisper all of your favorite sandwich ingredients into her ear in your sexiest voice..."). Katie responded right away, and I liked that they offered a "one hour" package as well as the "lifestyle shoot" that is typical. She was flexible in letting me feel out what I needed, but this arrangement made Merkle Photography more than competitive on price. It took a few reschedules to get to our session -- my ring resizing, the weather, an injury Katie sustained -- but when we finally got to a Saturday that worked for all of us, it was freezing cold outside. (What a month to do photos!) Katie and Thomas didn't blink an eye and met us at the icy tidal basin for some 20 degree photography. We lasted about 20 minutes out there, and then I asked them to go to a museum -- one they'd never been to. They did an incredible job finding creative shots and working with an unfamiliar location. My advice: just follow their advice! They know what shots they are going for, and they will be striking and unique. So far, we've only received a "Sneak Peek" of about five photos -- but those were up the same night, and we were just blown away by shots we didn't even realize they were getting. Our friends can't get over what genuine artists we found for a routine engagement shoot. I wish I could afford to fly Katie out to my wedding in CA, too!
