I injured my low back about seven years ago and have lived with the pain and immobility that goes with a protruding disc. Nothing could be done for it except for repeated rounds of PT. Well, a couple months ago I reinjured it in what turned out to be the coup de grace for my L5-S1 disc. I went to the ER with pain and numbness all through my right leg, as well as flaccid calves and glutes. The MRI showed a severe disc extrusion flattening my S1 nerve root like a pancake. The first surgeon I was referred to gave me the ol' "it might get better with time" opinion, although my sense was that he simply preferred to deal in more high-dollar interventions. In a panic I called Dr. Santini's office for a second opinion. They got me in the next day and Dr. Santini confirmed that, no, this is not just going to go away. Within a couple weeks she performed the microdiscectomy and I had instant relief from 7 years of low back pain and stiffness. I'm still working on the atrophy and some numbness in my foot, but it's getting better week by week. I'm a huge believer in PT and the idea that "exercise is medicine", but I'm so glad I found Dr. Santini and had the surgery. The situation really had escalated to another level of severity and without her realistic assessment and quick treatment I might now be dealing with some permanent loss of function. My procedure: LUMBAR LAMINOTOMY WITH DECOMPRESSION OF NERVE ROOT WITH PARTIAL FACETECTOMY, FORAMINOTOMY AND EXCISION OF DISC L5-S1 - RIGHT on 8/16/23. Before surgery, my pain level was at times over a 10. Once I met with Dr. Santini and a plan was in place, I put my trust in Dr. Santini and was glad I did. Dr. Santini is amazing. After struggling off and on for years with no real answers on whether it was back or leg etc. I had an mri and was saw Dr. Santini. She saw my mri and was flabbergasted that I had been living as long as I had been in the condition I was. Dr. Santini scheduled me for surgery within two weeks, had all my mrsa & COVID testing scheduled and we were good to go. I had my L5-S1 bi-lateral repair. I was scared not sure what expect afterwards. Yes, there is numbness but my nerves needs to heal. They had been crushed for years. Second day I was already walking a mile on the treadmill as prescribed. Dr. Santini has healing hands. You can trust going into her office she will do what needs to be done to heal you. Dr. Santini is a phenomenal physician. She truly changed my life! She performed an Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF) for my collapsed disc and now I am finally pain-free. I can play golf and tennis and jog, none of which I could do before. Dr. Santini is trustworthy, honest, caring and an incredibly skilled surgeon. She answered all of my questions and never rushed me but was also efficient, which I appreciated. She was excellent with follow-up after my surgery. I was having pain in my arms, shoulders, and numbness in my hands. I went to Dr Santini and after a neck xray, told me the C5 and C6 vertebrae were bone on bone. This rubbing was also pinching my nerve. To fix this I needed a surgery which placed a titanium cage between the vertebrae, also called a spinal fusion. The hardest part was reading and signing the disclosure which tells you all the possible complications. My surgery and post operative care with Dr Santini were superb. After surgery I stayed overnight at the hospital. Upon discharge she gave me her cell to text her if I had any question. Over the weekend I did have a question about my pain medication which she promptly answered. The results of my surgery are fantastic. No pain or numbness. After 4 days I no longer needed the pain medication and after a week I can drive and pick up up to 15 pounds. Soon I will be back at the gym! read more

I came in with a shoulder injury and Dr. Santini told me it was inoperable and unrepairable due to an underlying condition. I had done my research and asked about procedures that had been successful in patients with my condition and she instead told me to continue with PT because no doctor would be willing to operate. Luckily, I found another specialist who repaired my shoulder in full and will operate on the other once quarantine is over. I only give 2 stars because the office staff are very nice and helpful. I do not think Dr. Santini is interested in patients that are considered nonsurgical. read more

Dr. Santini is outstanding - I had been in pain for 9 months, had seen multiple doctors who wanted to prescribe pain medication. Dr. Santini was recommended - I called, her staff were very prompt and courteous, I had an appointment within 3 days. Dr. Santini reviewed my condition and MRIs, accurately diagnosed the issue and told me I needed surgery. I was schedule and within 3 weeks of my first appointment, I am pain free. Horrible bedside manner, dismissed me and the pain I was experiencing. Barely even looked at me and just kept throwing out random medical terms that had nothing to do with what i was talking about. Even saying at some points to me "well I don't know what that would be related to!" Plus don't get why WITH INSURANCE I'm paying a 40 dollar copay and then 100 bucks for a Dr visit and x-ray. Isn't the copay for the Dr visit!?!? Will not be going back to he. After seeing another surgeon that listened to me, looked at my records spanning 15+ years and did a THOROUGH physical exam, I am having a repeat MRI and possibly have to have surgery on the surrounding 2 cervical discs!! So I would tell Dr Santini to not judge a book by its cover. I have a high pain tolerance and take care of myself knowing my spine is messed up, that's not a reason to be dismissed! read more

For close to 20 years she has healed my children's broken bones, replaced discs in my wife's neck sparing her from years of pain, and most recently, decompressed my old, rusty lumbar spine allowing me to walk normally again. I saw Dr. Santini for a chronic back issue. She took x-rays and proceeded to tell me there was nothing she could do. I asked about weight loss, exercise, strength training and stretching. She said it probably wouldn't do much. Needless to say this wasn't what I wanted to hear. Her bedside manner is terrible. She then wanted me to come back for a follow-up. For what? She talks medical speak as if everyone knows what she's saying. And I used to be a pharmaceutical rep so I've been exposed to terminology. I found out later that she had done my friend's neck surgery. The friend was satisfied with the surgery but agreed that she doesn't have much of a bedside manner. I had a pharmacist tell me that they wished I had told them I was going to see Santini. They would have referred me elsewhere. If you're looking for someone more personable, this isn't the place for you. I guess I'm used to having a phenomenal primary physician and incredible cardiologist. They take plenty of time with me. I went to her for a knee injury and after my 2nd second visit with X-rays and an MRI, she told me I needed a total knee replacement. This sounded drastic to me and I decided to go for a 2nd opinion with a knee specialist. I was told I did not need any surgery let alone a knee replacement. I have been a patient of Dr. Angela Santini since 2008. She performed a cervical fusion at that time. The surgery was a complete success and I remained pain-free. However disc degeneration occurred once again in 2018 on other cervical vertebrae and I definitively had Dr. Santini and her staff working right away to relieve my pain. She performed a more delicate surgery to stabilize my neck. She is professional and caring, Dr. Santini and everyone in her office really care about what they do and make sure you get the best treatment based on your situation. Everything related to my two procedures was handled timely and with my best interest at heart. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Santini and her office if you have back issues or need spinal surgery. If you are a smart person who does research and likes to ask question about your health and wellbing, you probably don't want to go to this practice. I went to Dr. Santini to inquire about having some plates and screws removed from my wrist area from a surgery a few years ago. Although I had to wait 45 minutes to see her and provide all this medical history and operating notes, she didn't even ask or get an x-ray to see what was going on with my wrist before she told me she didn't think it was a good idea to remove it. I think I spent 5 minutes with her. Her dismissive attitude was insulting. I have some very valid concerns about reactions I have with my wrist when I go  into hot tubs, steam rooms, hot springs because the metal in my wrist causes irritation because it gets hot inside my body. But, instead of trying to help, and get x-rays to see what was really going on, she was dismissive. In my opinion, not a helpful doctor. Also, she had an assistant who was also dismissive and discounted my experience when I was tryign to tell her about it. Seriously, if you have questions or concerns they don't want to help you. read more

I saw Dr. Santini for a lumbar disc herniation. As a person who typically experiences back pain I know what a struggle it can be to find a treatment that works. After a fall my back pain was particularly bad and accompanied by severe nerve pain in my left leg. I was referred to Dr. Santini by my general practitioner. Her office staff was very kind and efficient, they were able to schedule me an appointment very quickly and get me all the information I needed. During my first appointment Dr. Santini listened to the explanation of my symptoms, and performed an evaluation. She was able to quickly identify and explain what she believed the diagnosis was and sent me to get an MRI for confirmation. Her office worked closely with me and my insurance company to get approval and the procedure scheduled ASAP. Post MRI her office was again able to schedule a follow up quickly. During my second visit Dr. Santini reviewed the MRI with me, and confirmed her original suspicion of a herniated disc in my lumbar spine that was pushing on the nerve. Due to the severity of the herniation Dr. Santini recommended a discectomy. The significant amount of pain and the considerable weakness in my foot Dr. Santini and her team squeezed me in for my surgery within a week. Janet the practice administrator walked me through the entire surgical process, she was there and ready to answer any questions or concerns I had. The surgery went flawlessly. I experienced immediate relief of the nerve pain and the lower back pain, I was amazed. Dr. Santini was clear in her explanations and willing to answer any and all questions. I called Dr. Santini's office for an appointment and was given a choice of appointments that were within a couple of days. Greeted warmly and explained the process. Upon arrival was again greeted in a very friendly manner and did not have to wait long to see the Doctor. She explained what she thought was the problem and ordered an MRI. Dr. Santini appears to tell it like it is. Now that I have had the MRI (She was correct in what she expected the MRI to show) which revealed a torn miniscus, I'll be back to see her for the treatment plan. read more
