We stopped in to this lovely little cocktail bar, It served very artistic, hand-crafted, farm to table, beautifully presented cocktails and tapas. The four of us each had a lovely cocktails, one changed colors! One was a creative take on Negroni, One was tequila w/ celery; mine was like Pisco sour. They were all excellent. We had a few tapas which were tiny, but beautifully presented - an amazing steak tartar, marinated olives, a tuna tartar on sope, and a beautiful little egg roll. Our server, Victor, was so knowledgeable and sweet, and described all of our drinks and dishes in details. Definitely worth a visit if you like these type of things.
Such a wonderful experience! Great food, great cocktails and great service. I have to give them a shout out as it's the first time I've truly had craft cocktails and I've been in Europe since 9/5, bouncing between countries. Now ,for the facts. There's a stuffy restaurant upstairs and an awesome speakeasy downstairs where you can get great cocktails and food. Granted it's a smaller menu than what's offered upstairs, but was fine on my solo visit. They also have a private dining room called the Hibiki that can be booked for parties of 6-10 and offer the full menu, including a chef's menu with wine or cocktail pairings. Wowed!!! Shout out to Victor and his crew for the 411 and a great experience.
What a fantastic restaurant in Madrid to visit. We made a reservation ahead of time and this place is definitely full in the evenings. We were told by our great server Raul that Angelita is run by two brothers, one responsible for the food and one for the drinks. We went with white and red wine to accompany our dishes and the choices were excellent. The dishes were spectacular in form and flavor. The presentation was a top tier. Roasted pepers with smoked sardine was a delicious entrance to our dinner. Beef tartare was without a doubt one of the best tartare we ever had and we had a lot. It was a burst of freshness and flavor of mustard was giving you that vibe of having of the best bite of ideal medium rare burger (that was my interpretation :) We finished with pigeon sopas and Callos a la Madrileña which is a stew made of tripes. Both deep in flavor and pigeon sopas were definitely a great experience. To finish off we took a dessert which was again one of the best combination we had lately. In other words La Angelita is definitely a restaurant spot to visit without any hesitation ! Thank you again Raul w for a great dinner experience and your knowledge.
I would venture to say that Angelita was our absolute favorite restaurant we dined at in Madrid. The cocktails and food are all SO creative and so well executed. For us Americans, we were also pleased that they open earlier than 8pm for dinner so we were able to dine at what felt like a more "normal" time for us. Our group sampled many bites including a cold meats board, a cheese selection, sourdough bread basket, their play on "ratatouille," steak tartare toasts, fresh tomato salad (one of the specials), and a pumpkin special (featuring pumpkin cream, roasted pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, foam made with pumpkin seeds and muscatel wine, and tender beef and gnocchi). OMG everything was truly phenomenal. They were so good at accommodating our odd-numbered group (there were 5 of us) and managed to plate the pumpkin special onto 5 plates for us (I think they gave us 1 1/3 orders of it). They did the same with the ratatouille so we could each get our own plate, which was perfectly composed and absolutely delightful! It's one of their most popular dishes, and I can see why. They even paced all of our courses so thoughtfully. It really was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we'd had in a while. Our main server was David, but we had a few others who delivered food, refreshed our drinks, etc. Every single person was extraordinary. The service was impeccable. This is not a Michelin-starred restaurant nor does it feel so refined, but we had the most exquisite experience from start to finish. And to top it all off, we really felt like the prices were reasonable for the quality of food and drinks. I can't say enough about Angelita. You MUST go here if you are visiting Madrid.
During a recent trip to Madrid, I had a nice visit to this restaurant! We went on a Saturday night, and while it was lively and busy, our reservation got us seated immediately, which I really appreciated. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. We kicked off with the Croquetas de Cecina. They had a nice crunchy outside and a creamy inside-- tasty, but a bit underwhelming. Then came my absolute favorite of the evening was the Wonton Matanza and Gambas. This was fantastic, offering a great crunch on the outside and incredible shrimp flavor inside. We rounded out our meal with the Canelón Rabo de Toro, which was packed with a good amount of oxtail and presented beautifully. My only minor "gripe" was the small portion sizes, but honestly, every dish was so well done! They also offer a great selection of delicious wines. All of that for €24 so I could not complain. I am looking forward to returning again the next time I'm in the city.

This was the second restaurant I visited when I spent a few months in Madrid, and it was never unseated. My first time visited, I was welcomed very kindly by the waitstaff, who offered a few wines to pair with each dish. The pisto was my favorite dish, but the seafood was also excellent. On subsequent visits, the extensive wine list meant I was free to try new styles that are difficult to find elsewhere. Additionally (!!!) the entire downstairs is a neat, dimly-lit bar with some of the most experimental drinks I've found to date. Bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable and willing to work with you to find something off the menu they think you'd enjoy.
Our last dinner of our 10 day trip was simply outstanding. First logistics - Reservations are a must. I was confused with the wine bar v cocktail bar reservation. The wine bar is upstairs for dinner and downstairs is the craft cocktail scene. Upstairs you can have both - and we ended the evening downstairs for after dinner drinks. Second menu - the menu offers a la Cart or price fix multi course. We chose a la carte and shared tapas style and had plenty for 4. It's been a few days so I'll share photos. Cocktails - we had cocktails before and after dinner. They were truly craft cocktails and all were unmatched in my experience. Wine - our server selected for us by the glass and was eager to find good matches. He opened bottles without reservation matching our individual pallets. Outstanding. Service - superb! Initially the gated door or access was a little unusual but once you've been you will understand. Once seated we had one server who was ok with English and a second was extremely proficient. Both were extremely attentive and helpful. Victor was our cocktails server and checked in throughout the evening. He was simply amazing. His personal nature, passion for service, understanding of flavors and presentation were just amazing. What a find, I highly recommend.
I rarely think places deserve 5 stars but this restaurant definitely did. The service was amazing and really helped make the experience. Just by looking at the photo you wouldn't think the tomato salad could be so good but I loved it! The steak was my favorite dish, so tender and the vegetables were sautéed so well. I personally didn't like the rice that much but I am sure others would. The dessert was really wonderful as well as the wine and cocktail collection. I will absolutely be coming back to this restaurant. I recommend getting a reservation if you would like to eat here. My parents and I shared 4 dishes and 1 dessert and thought it was plenty of food. The location is convenient as well.
Having been living in Madrid for about a month now I can easily say that Angelita has been in my top two if not, my favorite dining experience. We made reservations a few weeks in advance, and we're seated by a very nice waiter who spoke English with us when we needed. We wanted to try a few different wines and got great recommendations from the staff. I am honestly not even a big wine person, but I really enjoyed their recommendation, it was like they read my mind with what I enjoyed. In terms of our meal, my favorite was the tomato salad, which we got a third portion of because it was just two of us. the tomatoes were insanely fresh, and the olive oil and salt was just perfect on top. I also loved the Pisto, which may sound unassuming on the menu, but it was the loveliest mix of vegetables I've ever had, it really made the mail for me. We also had oysters which word deliciously fresh. and then we had the steak which was cooked perfectly, and marinated so well. We finished off with a cheese plate and we're too full for a proper dessert. Again, I highly recommend this spot, It is officially going to be one of my top recommendations when people ask me where to eat in Madrid, and I already have a reservation to go back with friends in a few weeks!!!
This is another place I wish I could give half stars, in this case 4.5. On one hand, it's the *exact* sort of quietly-pretentious cocktail bar experience I absolutely love, where all the drinks have been carefully curated with a bunch of small-batch ingredients, most of them, in this case, made in house. Each drink we ordered had an absolutely precisely perfect, super-unique presentation, and you could tell they were all carefully designed. I especially loved, while they don't advertise being a distillery, several cocktails even use their own in-house spirits, which if you ask about it and you're ordering a bunch of cocktails, you can just try a tasting flight for free. That was just super cool - you can buy bottles of some of them, too. Bit pricey at ~40 euro for a half-bottle, but they also distill some seriously unusual stuff, including one, used in their now-my-gold-standard bloody mary, distilled from a variety of mixed vegetables, the first time I'd *ever* seen a spirit distilled entirely from vegetables. On the other hand, with the exception of that bloody mary, all the drinks we had, especially for the price, were just... good. I loved the attention to detail on all of them, I could tell a lot of intention and effort went into each one, and again, it's always cool when you're drinking something that was distilled specifically by and for the bar you're at. But I also feel like I remember, mostly, a lot more about the presentation of the drinks and how much work went into some of the ingredients, than what most of them actually tasted like. On the third hand... that bloody mary. Seriously probably the best bloody mary I've had, as you'd expect from a place that hand-crafts literally everything including the base spirit. Assuming they still have it and it wasn't only on a temporary/seasonal menu... I'd go back for more of those, if I were ever back in Madrid. (If it was on a temporary/seasonal menu... too bad for me. I'll be savoring the half-bottle of the spirit I absolutely brought home with me, anyway! Though I still won't be making their bloody mary, which also used their own mix of several fresh-made stocks, for maximum flavor while also being totally clear still. That was super cool, and again, absolutely delicious.) Would I put it in my own personal "best bars anywhere on the planet" list? Probably not - that's a... lot of competition. Is it the best cocktail bar in Madrid? Also in my opinion, no, if I could only recommend one craft cocktail bar in Madrid, it'd be Salmon Guru. But if someone just asked me for recommendations for Madrid cause I'd been there, I could recommend any number of places, and they liked fancy, not-cheap craft cocktails? This would also go on the list, if that hypothetical person had time for two, as we did. Definitely do make a reservation, though. When we got there right when they opened, we were the only ones there... but that definitely didn't remain true. read more
Angelita had pretty good food, cocktails, and ambiance. I visited around 9 PM without a reservation and we got a seat in the basement bar. We had a few drinks and dinner. They serve the same food menu downstairs as well as upstairs. I liked the decor a lot; dark but comfortable. FOOD Smoked beef ham croquette - €3.5 each - pretty good croquettes Organic "ratatouille" with egg yolk and rosemary mayonnaise - €17.5 smaller portion - it was a little like ratatouille. It was not very attractive looking -- it was a vegetable mush. It didn't seem like a full dish on its own; it needed meat. Oxtail stew cannelloni with Sherry hollandaise - €10.5 - pretty good; get two if you are sharing They also gave us some olives (tasty) and then later some nuts (bad because they were unsalted / unseasoned). DRINKS Apio y Citricos - tequila with celery etc - interesting and tasty Resina y Sombra - mezcal with mushrooms etc - also interesting and tasty Moscow Mule Citronela - it was a moscow mule. not very interesting. Topinambo - whiskey, chicken skin etc They were all €13 or €14 We liked two of them a lot, less so the other two. read more

Angelita Madrid, tucked into the city's cozy Chueca neighborhood, is the shared invention of visionary restaurateurs David and Mario Villalón. Its cocktail venue is one of Madrid's most subtly invigorating places to drink. In a restaurant scene that is constantly reinventing itself, 'Angelita' doesn't chase trends. It defines its own universe. Finding the bar is part of the experience. Entering through the dining area upstairs, one is guided down an almost secret staircase to what might be called, Center Stage. This is where cocktail magic unfolds in a profound yet personal way. Instantly the house lights soften. A cacophony of curiously muddled voices rises and falls in palpable anticipation of what comes next. In a comfy blend of separate yet united, the bar and restaurant deserve their own spotlights. The menus evolve constantly. Angelita's wine list can reach five hundred bottles. The motif is as thoughtful, expansive, and provocative as the impeccable dishes with which it is paired. Oh, the food! So worthy of distinction, yet we will save it for another review. In the meantime, cherish a seat at the bar. It offers the most captivating view in the house: front-row access to the choreography behind the counter. For it is here where libation artists distill genius from wildly enchanting ingredients. Rather than relying on commercial bottles, Angelita cures and concocts its own spirits and infusions. Many elements are harvested from the family farm. They are rendered, blended, mixed, and tuned in exacting ways as much akin to science labs as gourmet kitchens. Fresh-milled breadworks, savory almonds, fragrant herbs, just-pulled vegetables, and hypnotic botanicals are part of the alchemy. Nothing is off limits if it adds texture, depth, or aroma. The room reinforces this point. Angelita's bar is assembled with a mad scientist's mindset: shelves lined with labeled jars of organic infusions; stainless-steel work surfaces burnished to a mirror-sheen; precision tools that appear to be of surgical grade; and beakers with rubber tubing. And then there is the centerpiece: a rotary evaporator, or "Rotovap", replete with condenser and flask. It is a serious instrument of culinary crafting that signals exactly what Angelita intends: Precision Perfection. The device allows distillation under vacuum at very low temperatures. In practice, this means Angelita can capture and condense fragile aromatics. Citrus peel. Basil. Rustic spices. Floral notes. All without cooking them into acidic bitterness or diluted dullness. What ends up in the glass is absolutely clean, vivid, and true to the original ingredients. Think: flavor in hi-def. Such standards carry through to presentation. The bar serves no ice in any of its drinks. Rather, cocktails arrive in exquisitely chilled glassware to avoid watering-down their preciously procured ingredients. Everything is measured on a digital scale, not rushed through casual pours and bar jiggers. Each offering is intentional. Deliberate. Repeatable. Yet nothing feels clinical because the result is raw and primal pleasure. After the first sip an all-sensory message is received loud and clear: 'This isn't an ordinary cocktail bar.' Angelita's drinks are born on the family farm, expertly developed in a working lab, and refined out in the open for all to witness and savor. Come ready to be mesmerized. Techniques will marvel. Best meal we had in Spain (and we had some great meals) We weren't able to get a reservation for a full dinner upstairs but here is what we did (and still had a great time). We went early evening / late afternoon and enjoyed charcuterie, wine and tomatoes upstairs. We then went downstairs to the cocktail bar where we had a great time learning and trying different cocktails. Around 8pm, we were delighted when the waiter asked if we wanted to order food off the dinner menu. We got the ratatouille and soy sauce marinated beef tenderloin. Both were truly incredible! We loved our waiter. He spent so much time talking to us about the drinks, how they were made / inspired and various stories about the restaurant! read more

We are huge winos, so my wife surprised me with this experience. In America this bill would of easily been $120-150 here with tip we spent $60. Im legit shocked. Make a reservation, you're not getting in without one. It's rated as the best wine bar in Madrid & I'd have to agree since they hand you a bible of wines when you sit. In Spain, sharing meals is a huge custom & this place is def meant to be done in groups. It was still enjoyable with just us, but a lot of their fancier wines are bottle only & this will allow you to try more of the menu without being full! We had a cooking class to go to after so we couldn't indulge as much as we would of loved. If you like upscale, fine dining, like a reservations only vibe this is it! read more

Went to Angelita based on an Eater - I believe - article stating it was one of the best wine bars in Madrid. I went around 5:30p for an early evening drink before dinner later that night. *Just a side note for anyone who wants a hot meal, you will need to go later in the evening around 8p.* I was the only one in the wine bar at this time. I really just wanted wine and some cheese. Even though staff was preparing for evening service, I had great service. I informed my server I would prefer white wine and a small portion of a cheese board. I asked for his recommendation on which wine and was not disappointed. He served me two half glasses of different wines to go with the four different cheeses. The server was very patient with me in explaining the difference in both the cheeses and wine. His wine and cheese pairings could have not been more perfect. He also suggested a half portion of bread to go along. The bread was still warm when it was served to me, and it was yummy. My Spanish is limited, but I felt like I wasn't treated worst because of it. I felt like my server wanted me to have a great experience and didn't take advantage of me based on being American. If you want to eat at the restaurant, I would suggest making a reservation. We just wanted drinks so we went down to the downstairs cocktail bar area. There were plenty of comfy couches to sit on. The area was great for big groups! One thing I loved was how cute the menus were! They came in little luggage bags and had lights inside so you could read since it's dim in the basement. What I ordered: I got the Babel cocktail. There are not many tequila-based cocktails in Madrid so I needed to take advantage. It was perfectly flavorful and smooth! It was a little pricier than other bars in the area, but not bad for the type of place it is. This is the perfect place to go before or after dinner for a creative cocktail! read more

Absolutely delicious and a lovely experience eating dinner here with friends. The three of us ordered the tasting menu and we were not disappointed. Everything was phenomenal, highlighting different flavors, temperatures and textures. The service was amazing to top it off. Highly recommend and will return next time I'm in Madrid. read more
