    Next on the La Latina tapas tour -- Taberna la Concha. Taberna la Concha is a quaint tapas-bar that is best known for their vermouth. Unfortunately, I opted out of the experience, but from what I saw and heard, patrons were raving about this drink! Instead, I stuck to my vacation Spanish drink-- Sangria. Solid, strong, refreshing & delicious! There are tons of tapas options and true to how tapas are meant to be, portions are small -- perfect for those who want to try more on the menu or explore other delicious options in La Latina. I ordered #20) the meatballs in tomato sauce (albóndigas caseras en salsa de tomate) and was SO disappointed -- they arrived cold and tasted pretty basic. There are definitely stronger contenders on the menu -- I just happened to choose the wrong one... If I could do it over, maybeee the 14) White Prawn Carpaccio or the 3) Smoked Cod on Toast

    Great tapas. The shrimp is YUM!! (First item on the menu). The Vermut is delicious. They spray the Martina glass with gin and pour their gin on top. Reminds me that f the Italian Amara (hints to of herbs and citrus). Tempted to go home with a bottle! Hmmm... The staff is friendly and very helpful.! The place is casual whether you're in for a quick pre dinner tapas stop or you want to fill up. Perfect!

    We loved it. We sat at bar when you first entered as last two seats were just vacated. No one was downstairs and it looked kinda boring down there. We ended up talking to all the people around us We had the vermouth cocktail which was amazing. Sprayed with gin first, then some sort of red liquid pour at end We had three of the these! We had the stacked tomato salad with Burrata and liked it a lot. The tomatoes could have been better, riper, as they were not that flavorful We then got the shrimp on toast and loved it They give a dip with a carrot in it for free. Needed more carrots. And a big bowl of oloves you can take as much as you want We were here at two pm on a Monday and while full, no lines and food arrived fast We walked here from the Royal Palace after touring it

    This wonderful little spot on Calle de la Cava Baja is a great place to start (or maybe end?) a tapas crawl in the heart of historic Madrid. The interior is tiny, so be prepared to push your way up to the bar and wait for a table at peak times. But the tapas and drinks are worth it. On a recent visit, we shared delicious plates of Homemade Meatballs, Pork Loin on Toast and Cured Duck with Orange Slices. There's also an excellent selection of wine by the glass and a number of local beers on tap. But La Concha is best known for its homemade vermouth, so if that's your liquor, be sure to order a Martini or Negroni to pair with your meal. Service was prompt and friendly, and the handful of tables and barstools turned relatively quickly during our visit. Stop in for couple of tapas and a round of drinks, then head out to visit some of the other tabernas on this wonderful street. You can't leave Spain without experiencing at least one authentic tapas crawl, and Calle de la Cava Baja is probably the best spot in Madrid to check this off your bucket list.

    Really fun and lively place with amazingly modest prices! 30 euros for 4 drinks and food. The lentils with duck and foie gras was very good. could use a bit more duck. the tomato burrata tower was too heavily dressed. very small quarters with uncomfortable wooden stools.

    taberna la concha is what tapas dreams are made of! my partner and i have come back here every time we've been to madrid--at least three visits across two trips--and it's honestly one of the reasons we keep falling more in love with this city. the vibe is cozy, buzzy, and super local-feeling. i can't even remember how we first stumbled upon it, but it's the kind of place where you'll see native madrileños shoulder to shoulder with travelers, all enjoying vermouth and tapas like old friends. speaking of vermouth--they make their own in-house (!!) and you can even buy a bottle to take home. we did, and now every time we pour a glass, we're instantly transported back to madrid. it does get crowded (for good reason), so if you're planning a tapas crawl, definitely swing by earlier in the evening to snag a spot. and if you can't, it's still worth squeezing in for a round or two. pure joy in a glass and on a plate.

    One of the busy bars /cafes in Madrid, you come to La concha for vermù (local vermouth cocktails that are delicious and addicting). They also have food, really good tapas and free bites that are offered as part of the experience here. It's very busy so be aware that people crowd in here but no fret, drinks and food arrive-- there's a downstairs section too. The tapas were very good and tasty. Between 6 vermus and a few plates , that was dinner. Service: not brisk, the bar is under staffed. Tip: if you pick a table, order at the bar and take a seat. There is no wait staff. Came back another day and did not have the time to wait, it was packed inside at 8 pm so will return another day when I'm in Madrid again :) . End of Yelp.

    Quaint local feeling traditional Spanish bar- very appealing. Stop in for the homemade vermouth drink that they are known for. It's great and you can buy some to take home as a souvenir as well. Seeing people come in and buy that drink made it feel unique from other bars therefore the 5 stars

    This was the second stop on our Tapas tour. The sign outside said big selection of Cavas. We walked into a Bar area with high top tables. We again went to the basement given our group size. The tasting was for cheese and their House Vermouth. Three types of cheese-Manchego, Ideazabal (smoked) and Blue cheese and we tasted from mild to strong. Ideazabal was my favorite. Vermouth cocktail preparation was fun to watch. A spray of gin into the glass with an ice cube, olive. Semi-sweet and tasted as good as it looked. Servers were friendly and put on a drink mixology show for us. Perfect second stop!

    Lentil with foie gras - wow! Really enjoyed this one. The flavor worked really well together and it was not overly rich. Shrimp carpaccio - super light, great flavor/ seasoning. The olive oil took the dish to the next level. I'm not a big fan of vermouth but the House made vermouth here was the best I've tried.

    The big draw is the vermouth cocktail. Very good. However, the downstairs seating is right by the bathroom, nope. Upstairs is pretty cramped. The tapas were okay. Stop by for a drink and move on.

I know this one was exactly 5 months ago, because we touched down in Madrid on New Years Day, and this was the first place we ate (sounds like they've been here for aeons, so I doubt they've changed significantly since January.) My plan when we landed had been to just go down the list I'd made before we left of the best quick food places near our hotel, and eat at the first one that *was* open on New Years. I was worried there wouldn't be any and we'd be eating snacks from a convenience store, but nope! This place was indeed open. Open, and an absolute *madhouse*. I'm not sure if it was just because it was New Years, they were open, and much of the street wasn't, or if they're always this crazy - but it was a decent wait to order, to the point that it wasn't *entirely* clear whether we were even waiting correctly to order, since the line had kind of turned into a blob. Ordering and picking up our food was slightly nerve-wracking with how crowded it was, and there didn't really appear to be anywhere inside to sit, so we figured we'd sit outside at the tables... that we got immediately yelled at for sitting at, because it turns out all the tables right outside their entrance, actually belongs to their next door neighbor. So if I were ever back in Madrid, I *would* totally consider getting food here again, but I'd just probably plan on bringing it back to the hotel, vs what we ended up doing, finding the closest nearby flat non-private surface and eating it standing up in an alley. It definitely felt like a cool historic building inside, though, would've loved to dine in, if it hadn't been wall-to-wall packed, which it sounds like they might just always be. Food was great, though. We shared (this was plenty of food): An order of the cider-braised sausages - wonderful. Bonus, we learned from personal experience, you definitely want to get an order of these sausages, as not only are the sausages themselves delicious, the resulting au jus was also great for dipping the other items into.) An order of the ham and cheese croquettes - pretty tasty, though they did fall apart. Even tastier dipped in sausage juice, though then they *really* fell apart. Worth it though. Didn't look like you got a lot per order, but looks are deceiving - they were *rich*. An order of their famous mushrooms - I was a bit surprised, given the name literally means "the mushroom bar", that they only had a single mushroom dish, though given the sheer volume of that one item they clearly sell nightly, I can see why. Anyway, as a mushroom fan... they were certainly tasty mushrooms, perfectly cooked, but in my opinion, just a bit oversalted. Also had a glass of sangria for 2.50 euro - it is extremely good sangria, though the glass for 2.50 was pretty small. They also sell it for a better price by the larger container, but sadly, while I absolutely loved the European spirit of trusting people to be responsible after leaving with a to-go alcoholic beverage... they don't sell the *larger* sized sangria if you aren't dining in. Was too bad, as I absolutely would have loved twice as much of that sangria, but it clearly wasn't worth standing in a long ordering line a second time for it.

The restaurant is located in the heart of Madrid on a very cute street, and it is easy to find and walk there if you stay in the city center. The place is not very big - both times I went there for lunch, there were no tables available, so I had to sit at the bar; once I even had to wait about 7 minutes until one bar spot became free. The restaurant's design is simple, but pretty and lovely. Overall, the restaurant is in very good condition and was perfectly clean both times I visited. The only small downside is that the place is quite noisy, but it did not bother me. One of the best things about this place is the people who work there - both a guy and a lady at the bar were extremely nice and friendly to me; plus, both spoke very good English. They gave me recommendations on what to try, and I followed their advice. The restaurant's menu is not big, but it has all the most popular traditional Spanish dishes. Both times I ordered Rabo de Toro (a traditional Spanish stew), Fardos (squid rolls with bacon and squid ink mousse); and once I also tried croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes). The croquettes were tasty - I loved their flavor and soft texture. One portion includes 6 pieces, and they are quite big and filling. It was my first time trying Fardos (I ordered a 1/3 portion), and it was a great experience - the dish turned very delicious after the bartender mixed it for me. The squid was cooked very nicely, and combined with the fresh bacon and ink mousse, it tasted fantastic. Rabo de Toro (I ordered a 1/2 portion) was also my first time trying this dish, and I loved it - the stew was perfectly cooked, very soft and moist, with rich flavors, and it melted in my mouth. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of drinks, especially wines. I do not drink alcohol, so I was recommended to try grape juice - Mosto, which was extremely flavorful and tasted like fresh pressed grape juice, even though it came from a glass bottle. I loved that drink! Price-wise, all items on the menu seemed reasonable. I paid €8 for 6 ham croquettes, €12 for a half portion of Rabo de Toro, €8 for a 1/3 portion of Fardos, and €3 for one glass of grape juice. It is possible to have a nice full lunch here for around €22, which is reasonable for a restaurant in the heart of Madrid. The place accepts all major credit cards and Apple Pay, which is a big plus. If you visit this restaurant, I strongly recommend trying 1/3 or 2/3 portion of Fardos, a half portion of Rabo de Toro, and their grape juice Mosto - it's enough food to feel full and experience traditional Spanish flavors.

The tavern has been around for hundreds of years, and I often wonder what it was like a century ago. I'm always amazed that such a gem exists in the heart of Madrid, a city center filled with tourist traps. Malaespina draws both locals and tourists -- and for good reason. We thought they were more the size of tapas but each dish was a huge portion itself which definitely isn't a bad thing. The food tasted pretty good but I think it just lacked flavor occasionally. All the meat was cooked well and was very juicy, just could use a little more flavor. Otherwise everything was good. Solid 4 stars

It was a bit oily though when you scrape the bottom of the pan to get all the rice but it was delicious!!! During out meal the owner and our waiter has a disagreement about something and were yelling at each other across the restaurant.
